If the bootloader is locked as tightly as the Incredible S, then it's going to take a lot more than a dev with a phone to get CM on your device...

So why is this so hard? If it's already out for the DHD, the chances are it will make it to the Sensation.

The encryption methods on Thunderbolt, Incredible S & Sensation are heavier than on the Desire HD first of all.
A hack for the Thunderbolt was found based on a downgraded leaked firmware that could be flashed as a means to achieve S-OFF. A similar approach was tried already for the Incredible S, but so far it has failed.
I suggest poking around the Incredible S Development forum if you want to stay updated on the prospects of hacking the Sensation too.

That's Cyanogen himself, he doesn't like Sense UI. But others members will support Sensation.

I don't know if it is just me but I'll buy sensation for sense 3.0 so having cyanogen doesn't makes "sense" imho. Cyanogen can be seen installed on low end devices and having it on sensation will make it look the same as low end devices. If I want cyanogen, I'll buy another one. Maybe desire or something cheaper. Just my opinion. No offense.

You're right, I buy HTC Sensation for Sense UI 3.0. But for people that like AOSP CM7 will give them choices.

Well, if you like Sense 3.0, then leave it on! No one forces you to install CM! I like the possibilities of individualising your phone with Cyanogen Mod!

Ehh everyone is different. Personally i feel sense, even in its old version, was pretty bloated. Now in its crazy 3d implementation it is even more so. I buy a device based on if its supported by cm7.

Damn, this is almost a deal breaker. I was really looking forward to this being supported by Cyanogen. Not that they still wont. I own a N1 and been running Cyan from the begining. I am not looking forward to an LG phone. It scares me. HTC builds quality phones. I hear a bunch of things about the Gx2 but if its cyan software, it may solve some issues. This phone looks so damn good tho

I'd like CM on it too. Love the sensations hardware but sense looks a bit dated and bloated to me now.

I have tried most of the UI's. Sense, by far, is the heaviest and most restrictive one. From the standard 16 apps 4x4 screen configuration to the inability to adjust certain widgets to smaller sizes. Therefore, Sense is gone for me anyway. I would welcome the mod support if I get one.

I post very rarely, cause I am a very capable leech and can use the search button. In this case I feel like the g2x isn't getting enough love. Yes, in all likelihood we will not be getting official ICS support, but we will get CM9. Even though the 2 cores wont be completely utilized, the tegra2 will probably be faster than that qualcomm SoC. Anyone I know that has moved to the sensation has stated the g2x is a faster device. Anyways, I am using a Cherry Pick cm7 nightly from... that other site, with faux's kernel and decided to give that V6 supercharger a try. It is buttery smooth, no APN problems, no BSOD, battery life under heavy use is incredible. I have used Weapon, White's Miui, EB, Axura, and CM7.1. Take your pick, they are all amazing. We have some awesome developers and I sincerely appreciate what you've done with this widely underrated handset. I will now retreat back into my hole. Might be fun just to have a thread not so negative ya know!

I know I might be jumping the ship. I'm on MIUI with faux 4.3 UV kernel and I love this phone. Everything is fast, everything works. However as far as future proof the only reason I am thinking of switching is because of the support. The dev section for the g2x is dying. We have 2 or 3 ROMS that are actually good and get updated frequently. Have you looked at the sensation dev section? There are about 8 active threads. The mytouch 4G(my old phone) is much older than this phone and still has a more active dev section. Its disappointing.

I agree. Seems as though imo lg and nvidia are the reason. I may be wrong but from what I understand the devs just have a hard time with the drivers they are provided.

I get it, its not as exciting. I had the g1 while it development was peaked. We still got a device that is gonna be future proof long enough to get to the kal-el powered phones. Which is when I will probably think it will be worth upgrading. Remember the software has not yet caught up to this hyper powered hardware. Most of the development so far has gone to getting the operating system to a point where they can start optimizing it. Shadow Gun doesn't even start to flex the power of this chipset. Well, that is my ignorant impression of the android situation.

I'm really grateful for the work the devs have done fixing up this phone. I hope people will be patient with them in the next few months. We don't want to lose any more devs. This handset had potential.

You people kill me. How many roms do you intend on running on your phone? You can only run one unless you have dual boot. You talk about the devs abandoning g2x or not enough development. Well what do you want to see that hasent been done? There are nightlies out everyday. Somebody must be developing something. Here's what you do, pick a rom, any rom and stick with it.

Some more roms are about to start back up. If LG is telling the truth then we will get leaked drivers soon. Btw look up the history of the HTC Droid Eris we got no support from Verizon or HTC the reason I'll never own a another HTC device this phone has updated faster with promise of more updates unlike that phone was killed before it got started

That's not a fair comparison. HTC has the best track record of updates by a LARGE margin. You're comparing the Eris... Which has very bad hardware. But look HTC's record, they updated the two year old Incredible to GB... Almost every 1ghz or higher HTC has GB. Maybe even all of them if I'm not mistaken. So as for updates, I'd go with HTC. I just dislike HTC's hardware, their phones always deal with stupid defects like different screens, eMMC issues, dust under the screen, and just abnormal build quality issues.

It was the second Android on Verizon. They could let us with foyo and then dropped us they did that phone wrong. It had bad dialer lag that foyo would helped. It was a crap phone.

What makes you say that? They backpedaled a bit on the no ICS statement but only so far as to say they were still testing phones for compatibility, which basically means nothing.

Well we also have an (un)official 2.3.4 from a G2x variant working on our phones. Once we start having several different models being updated, then we'll all start having bits and pieces to play with.
This is why HTC phones typically have lots of development because they release TONS of phones and they can pull bits and pieces together to better other devices. Once LG starts pumping out more "similar" phones, we'll start to get more and more missing pieces to get it working.
If not the devs will improvise such as they did with the A2DP driver on AOSP roms.
At this point the G2x on CM7 is pretty much near perfect. Battery life seems great, everything works as it should, GPS is almost instant. I have no complaints. We also have several roms currently. Remember that not all the G2x roms are just posted here at XDA
The G2x is a sexy phone. It is still a beast and is faster then most newer phones out there today. It may even play games faster then the Galaxy Nexus... who knows. But you have to know we'll get ICS. Either from the CM team or LG or both. I'd really like to see this phone with ICS and how well it performs against the Galaxy Nexus.
The O2x/G2x/O3D are LG's flagship models. Moving forward, LG just can not NOT upgrade at least some of their phones to ICS because that would be suicide. The G2x is a little more then 6months old. I'd say that we WILL get it but might be mid-2012 because you KNOW they'll release a stock ICS phone or two before upgrading existing handsets but I would expect this from most carriers.
Also the next Android release is typically buggy the first few builds while Google fixes it. The Nexus One and Nexus S both had new versions of Android but it wasn't released to other devices until the second or third revision. The Nexus S came out this time last year and the Nexus One wasn't officially updated until late January or February. Then other phones started to follow suite once a stable version was released.
So unless Google is doing something radically different then before, the Galaxy Nexus will hold ICS to itself for several months before any other device will see it (officially). So unless you are moving to the Galaxy Nexus, no other available phone has any benefit over the G2x at this point.

You know I've never understood why "we only have 3 or so really good roms" is a bad thing. Really, what more do we need? We have CM7 for the AOSP crowd, MIUI for the iPhone lookalikers, and Weapon for stock lovers. Throw in Ultimate for 2.2 and Eaglesblood for minimalism and I really don't see what we're missing out on.

Agreed, how often do most people change ROMs anyway? (I'm not talking about nightlies or new versions, but about swapping between say CM7 and MIUI.) I'd rather have a handful of well-developed projects than a dozen or so ones that meander along without ever really completing.

op is right, I am on 182 + Faux CM + v6 charger @ Balance 3, oced @ 1.2 for daily use, smooth like butter. Only problem with Google navigation doesn't auto rotate.

Disgruntled Sensation owner

I have an htc sensation and am extremely unhappy with the software support it has gotten. Not putting any blame on the devs, they have been great to us but the fact of the matter is that we are still on cm7 alphas, not even nightlies, and ics support is looking pretty bad. Kmobs has made some progress, so I'm going to wait a while to see what he has to offer along with whatever else the cm team gives us. And that's ignoring the hardware issues like poor reception and a shoddy screen (Ghosting and scan lines on an lcd made in 2011? seriously? That's ignoring the fact that my a** produces deeper blacks than this thing. I know it's an lcd, but come on! I swear to god I'm never buying an htc phone ever again).
Assuming that doesn't end well, would you guys recommend I "downgrade" to a nexus s? I wouldn't be able to afford a galaxy nexus (whenever the hell that launches on t-mobile, no way I import one) I could sell my sensation and get a used one for a pretty good price. Or should I just tough it out with my sensation and get a galaxy nexus when its second hand price drops?
Basically, what I'm asking is do you gs owners feel compelled to upgrade to the galaxy nexus or are you still content with your devices?

I'm happy with my phone as it is. Yeah, I could get a Galaxy Nexus if I wanted to pay for it outright, but there'll be another one next year, and there's nothing wrong with my NS. I wouldn't mind a Galaxy Nexus, but for me, my phone's doing what I need it to

That's what really bothers me about the sensation, it doesn't do what I need it to do. HTC Sense is a complete mess imo, and cm7 (which is what I'm currently running) is incredibly buggy due to it still being an alpha. (the browser will crash about every tenth page you load) Thanks for the input.

your first mistake.. the nexus s is not a downgrade. not even close. just because it doesnt have a dual core cpu, doesnt mean anything. as a matter of fact, my nexus s doesnt know that it doesnt have a dual core, and im not telling it
i have a friend thats very disgruntled with his sensation also. and for pretty much the same reasons that you gave. the only thing that i can say to ease your pain is that morfic, the creator of the Trinity line of kernels(for the ns/ns4g), has just received a sensation to develop on. im hopeful that the sensation will be seeing some great kernels in not to long of a time span. so, heads up

lol, that's why I put downgrade in quotes, everything about the phone in terms of specs is worse than the sensation, but I think it's a better over all phone. Thanks for the heads up though, I'll definitely keep track of this this morfic guy.

I fully agree with this. My friend had a Sensation, and even though the specs look better on paper, my phone could out-perform his easily, especially with Morfic's or Ezekeel's kernel.

It is a slippery slope.
the 1.35x higher resolution skews 2D and 3D benchmarks.
benchmarking sense roms with the unoptimized libsqlite implementation drops IO scores
so it stacks up quite nicely now where i can actually benchmark a sensation hands on
flashing cm7 alpha10 on sensation right now to do some further test on a more familiar platform.
user experience is great on sensation so far btw

I'd wait till the ics OTA drops for the nexus s. Right now ics roms are pretty stable but they are no where near as smooth as gingerbread roms. No one knows how well ics will transfer to single cores, so your sensation may be better for the long run because of the duel core.

For sure. It's a gorgeous phone, and I've always liked the Sense UI. I think it's the best OEM UI out there. I think once the phone gets some more attention it'll definitely be a nice piece of hardware. Honestly, if I were in the OP's position, I would probably hang on to the phone if I could... but it seems it doesn't meet his needs.

I actually disagree about the ux on sense. There are a lot of little things that really bother me. The way that the notification drawers sometimes takes a second to slide down for no apparent reason, the unlock animation, the lack of a bookmarks button in the browser (you have to hit menu), and the choppiness of the app drawer to name a few. imo, cm7 is a much more pleasant to use os, but that has been really buggy for me on my sensation. Sense is definitely a love/hate affair, and I really hate it lol. (Which is strange because I actually liked sense 2.x quite a bit, 3.0 was a step backwards imo.)

I am definitely going to hang on to it for at least a month or two, I just wanted to see how you nexus owners like your phones as I don't have any friends with them.

Just curious, which ROM are you running? Not sure if you're on stock or a customer Rom, but when I had my Inspire I ran Android Revolution most of the time (when I wasn't on CM) and the performance improvement over the stock ROM was amazing. I talked my friend into throwing Android Revolution HD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849) on his Sensation 4G and he keeps mentioning how much faster it is now.

I'm on cm7 right now. I have tried arhd, but that gave me really bad battery life, no matter which kernel I used. I tried a few others, I think insert coin was one of them, but none really felt as snappy as cm7. Some were smoother, but multitasking and opening apps is much quicker in cm7. I'll take the buggyness of cm's current state on the sensation over sense any day.

My ns4g with aosp's ics ROM is incredible. Probably going to take a break from my EVO 3d and use it as my daily driver for a while once the OTA drops

I think you're asking a bit much there. CM for Sensation is being done by one guy. One guy with a real life and a real job and real commitments that don't involve coding an OS for a bunch of - quite frankly - ungrateful users. KMobs is an utter perfectionist, but he has good reasons as to why we don't have nightly releases for the Sensation yet (a9 is just about perfect but a10 introduced a bunch of bugs... and to be honest, I'd prefer he focused on getting CM9 alphas out the door).
The real fact of the matter is that the Android market is much broader than it has ever been. Two years ago, we were looking forward to the Droid and Nexus One as our saviours from the 528MHz MSM720x-infected designs that were around. All we really had to choose from was the HTC Dream/G1, Magic/MT3G and Hero, which all shared basically identical internal designs. Nowadays you can point at just about any brand of phones and they'll have a truly lustworthy Android handset competing for your dollars and marketshare, so therefore the developer base has splintered accordingly. It's therefore only natural that handsets will have less 3rd-party developer support as time goes on.
And that's ignoring the hardware issues like poor reception and a shoddy screen (Ghosting and scan lines on an lcd made in 2011? seriously? That's ignoring the fact that my a** produces deeper blacks than this thing. I know it's an lcd, but come on! I swear to god I'm never buying an htc phone ever again).

OK, this interests me. I haven't had these issues. In fact, my Sensation has far better reception than my two previous phones (LG Opitmus 2X and Samsung Galaxy S). I've definitely not noticed any ghosting or scanlines on my screen. Dust under the screen, yes. Power button funkiness, yes. At the risk of sounding like a Sensation/HTC apologist, I'd suggest that your phone has some kind of fault and you should get it looked at.
Basically, what I'm asking is do you gs owners feel compelled to upgrade to the galaxy nexus or are you still content with your devices?

I'm very tempted to upgrade to a GN. I won't though, mostly for the following reasons;
Removable SD Card - GN only has internal memory, muddied by...
USB Mass Storage - GN uses MTD which is a suboptimal ux, IMO. In a nutshell it means that all the writeable media on the phone presents as a single unified area with the user accessible /sdcard/ just being a directory rather than a separate partition & device as it is otherwise. It's probably The Future, but right now I hate it.
Offscreen buttons - I hate capacitive buttons as they are, but at least they're not taking up screen real estate
Build quality - The Sensation feels glorious. Samsung devices tend to feel cheap.

Just FYI, there are 2 other guys that are working on Sensation from the CM team. Not gonna post links since I don't care if you believe me or not, but you can find them on kmobs g+ feed. They just don't post on XDA, and don't release things until the next build has enough to warrant a release. They've been saying we'd go into nightly status soon, but either there are a couple of problems that they haven't found solutions to, someone is busy with their lives, or someone got pregnant (joke).

It looks like some dumba** mod didn't read my post and moved it from the nexus s forums to the sensation forums. The point of the thread was not to complain about cm development on the sensation, I realize that it's a labor of love and that the team working on it is small, the point of the thread was to ask galaxy s owners whether they feel proper CM support and stock OTA updates are worth the downgrade in hardware.
And no, my phone is not defective, it has one of the auo screens which have been confirmed to have scanlines and poor pixel response times.
@the guy asking me why I bought an htc phone: htc phones have always been famous for having great cm support and their hardware is really nice.

I feel that my Sensation is a bit slow sometimes, but I'm trying to tell myself that it'll all be great when ICS comes out (either via HTC or CM9).

I hate sense. I hate it so much that I am ready to get rid of the phone even though overall it is a great phone. Who in their right mind thinks dragging a circle into a ring is intuitive? Most of my friends cant figure out how to anser my phone and they own other android phones. I have now had this phone for about 6 months. My previous phones were the Nexus One, which was awesome, and had i not dropped and broke the screen I would still be using that phone. T-mobile replaced it with a galaxy s which was a complete POS which led to this phone. I want to root my phone, and install ice cream sandwich (ICS), or at least native android but I do not want sense. Every thread I have found on here all seem to include the sense with ICS. Can someone point me to a ROM that will meet my needs?

Is the add on you flash straight after you flash the rom to remove the sense script (don't reboot CWM or 4EXT flash straight after). It will give you standard android with Go Launcher EX.

Soon enough, CM9 will be available if you're willing to wait. It's AOSP 4.0 and apparently it's progressing nicely. Now, I don't want to ask this, but why buy an HTC if you hate Sense? I know AOSP is out there, but there are better phones with AOSP (GNexus, for example). I mean, half of the Sensations have "WITH HTC SENSE" right on the battery housing.
I don't get it. HTC makes Sense, it's what differentiates HTC from others, why buy an HTC if you hate Sense?
Edit: I want to make it clear, I'm not trying to hate or be a condescending douche, I'm just trying to see a different perspective. I actually don't mind Sense, but it depends how it's done. None of the 3.5 roms run great for me, ARHD 3.x seems to be the only rom that does Sense right. Smooth and fast, lag free.

Because they make great hardware? Because the Sensation is way better in terms of build quality, materials quality and weight balance than the Galaxy S II(which was the other phone I was considering). I've had several HTCs (Qtek 9100, HTC Diamond, HTC Desire, HTC Sensation) and they are all exceptionally well built.
The Diamond was the first phone where they started bundling some crappy "shell"(early version of Sense, but the name was different) on top of the Windows OS. It was really pointless for me, so I just disabled it(it was much easier back then - Settings > Today > Plugins, and you're ready ) After the Diamond I used an Nokia E51 for a while, and then bought the Desire... a nice phone indeed, but something was not right... After I downloaded and flashed CM6 for the first time I never went back to Sense again, Sense just looks ridiculous to me...
And when I bought the Sensation I used it for around 5 minutes with Sense, just to give it a try, but it was still the same $#!7.
So I, and a lot of other more advanced users, hate Sense. It is what differentiates HTC for the beginner and average user. For the advanced user the competitive advantage of HTC is their materials and build quality. And and HTC makes a great device to run CyanogenMod on(the best Android distro).
PS The Nexus S is a great phone, but I wanted the extra screen real estate and the dual-core CPU. The Galaxy Nexus is even better, but it wasn't available when I bought my Sensation. Sense 3.0 is the thing what made me buy HTC Sensation... believe me, even my wife bought a Xperia Arc "after" using my old Desire HD for a while... and she made me sell it at a loss after a weeks time...and got a Sensation XE...
If you hate Sense so much, go for SII ..... but i simply cannot live without Sense ... there is so much in it...

Why should I buy SII when I don't like the hardware? Crappy plastic, horribly light, otherwise a decent phone. I don't mind Sense being loaded when I buy the phone, as long as I can install whatever I want after that. After all I do realize that Sense is a major selling point for HTC. A lot of non-technical users love it, and there is nothing wrong with that. A lot of non-technical users also like Windows, and that's why the PC business is what it is today, but still I wouldn't use it even for a day
Also, when you say that there is so much in Sense you obviously haven't tried CyanogenMod... there are settings and customizations which I(and probably you also) didn't even suspected to exist, while using Sense...

Not all HTC phones have Sense. I guess you miss my post about having a Nexus One? That is an HTC phone.. No sense, just native Android, and it was flawless. I had 4 samsung galaxys and they all had problems within 4 months and 1 of them lasted 2.5 months before it failed. So basically I had 1 fail after 2 months then every one after that had issues within a few days to a week of getting it in the mail. After reading the reviews of the galaxy nexus, i am not interested. Same cheap feel as the current and previous galaxy and they still have the same problems as the previous versions. I just read a thread about how tapping the galaxy nexus phone causes it to buzz/vibrate. I had the same problem with 2 of my galaxy phones, not to mention none of them worked with GPS even after installing the samsung "fix", and then resorting to changing the server settings ect.. Samsung makes great displays, too bad the only quality part is the screen. This phone was sent to me as a replacement to my galaxy so I really didnt buy it. Other than HTC, at this point there really is no alternative. In my opinion no other manufacturer makes a quality phone so that is why i choose HTC as a manufacturer. I also knew if I didnt like the phone, once rooting was available I could root it and install native android which is why I am here.

To everyone arguing why sense is good: Just because YOU like sense doesn't mean the rest of us do. Why are you even responding in this thread? The name of this thread isnt "Convince me why Sense is good" If you aren't going to provide information relative to the topic, please stop responding. Your responses are starting to turn this thread into an argument and that is not the intention of this thread.

woah! Sounds like you're going to pop a blood vessel! If you hate sense that much.. You can use the "no-sense" scripts which should do the job for the most part! You wouldn't have to deal with that stupid ring haha, try that. You lose most sense features (which isn't what you're looking for anyway) and it's still good! Some guys have developed roms that they just get rid of sense for. Check those out once you root your phone. I would advise not going for ICS yet or the roms with sense 3.5 until they're stable (That's just my opinion though) Sense 3.0 gives me 1day + of battery life and I'm not even being careful with it. Sense 3.5 gives about 18 hours with less usage and effs with my gps a bit. When you root it, my suggestion is sense 3.0 rom DE-SENSED and go from there!

or just simply drag the ring like unlocking the phone
Sense is HTC's biggest weapon
without sense, HTC may die decades ago

No, not mad at all but Im sure you saw only 1 post was on topic, (the one you mentioned and the one below was kind of on topic) the others were people trying to explain why they like sense and basically telling me if I didnt like sense I should have bought a samsung. I have had this phone for 6 months, and gave it a chance (which was stated in the first post). I have used sense for 6 months and I still dont like it. I don't need other peoples opinion on why sense is good, or how their wife made them sell their phone. What does any of that have to do with me rooting my phone and installing ICS, or a rom without sense? None of those replies address the point of this thread. I want this thread to stay on track, not turn into a "I love sense" VS "I hate sense thread". I think its pretty obvious, that is the direction it was headed.
Thank you for the information. I will probably try simply removing sense from the phone first as you suggested. I dont need ICS, I just figured since I was going to root, ICS would be better. I also know ICS is coming soon with OTA. I might simply wait for that, then remove sense. I am assuming the script will work for the OTA since it works to remove sense 3.5 from the current rom floating around.

See how you get on with CM7. It's not ICS and development may have ceased in favour of CM9, but for me it's clean, fast and solid.

Everybody throws around the word intuitive. I like the way the lock ring works, and do find it intuitive to me. For others. Not so much. For those who have no desire to figure anything out for themselves, and would rather be told every move to make, then there is an entire company dedicated to doing just that. rumors are rumors. there was a thread or post somewhere stating that sense on ics will toned/slimmed down since ics already has most of the features. I believe sense 3.5 was added to ics so they can work out the bugs. Well only time will tell though. Lets just see when it gets release lol.

While I respect your opinion, I have to disagree. But again I dont understand why this is becoming a "Why I like sense" thread...
The rings are not intuitive. It requires you be familiar with the phone (which by definition makes it not intuitive) and as much as I dislike the Iphone and apple products in general, I can pick up any Iphone no matter what generation and use it without issue, and I sure as heck dont have to "figure out" how to answer the phone when it rings. Same goes for any native android phone, but the vast majority of people who pick up my phone have to ask how to unlock it. Having a red decline button and a green answer button requiring them to be pulled into a ring is not intuitive. However, a green button that says answer and a red button that says decline that you press to perform the action stated on the button, I find intuitive. I have no problem answering the phone, or using the phone, but I have found certain things about sense I just dislike as a whole, especially after using native android on my nexus one. The lock/unlock ring, and answer buttons are just the tip of the iceberg. In my opinion, all android phones should have the option to use native android, or the manufacturers GUI and I hope Google implements that.

Dude. Calm down. I don't particularly like Sense either, but it sure is pretty and fun to play around with for a bit.
The bad news is there's no real 'native' (I assume you mean AOSP) ICS out there yet. There's the 'Voldemort ROM' that we're not allowed to discuss or link to here, but it's not usable yet. If you're really desperate for ICS, you could try out Virtuous Inquisition from the development section. It's the Sense-ICS leak but it's had almost all of Sense stripped out. It's far far better than I was expecting it to be, but it's not without its bugs.
Your best bet would be to just install CyanogenMod 7 and wait for KMobs to release CM9 for us - when it's ready.

I'm about to get my new phone. And was dead set on getting the HTC One X. But as time's gone on, I'm left more and more unsure of the decision. Between the lack of ROM support which is really just a derivative of HTC's failure to foster/support the open source community in the same way that Samsung has. i.e. SGS3 already having CM9 support. On top of that, now there are things like dropped signals and what-not. I'm wondering whether or not the HOX is really going to be a sound 18 month investment that'll keep me fairly in check with the latest hardware and software developments?

Samsung isn't an option for me. It's just a brand I've never had an affinity to. Having CM9 working and having official CM support are hugely different things. Not to mention that the hardware in HTCs will never be fully supported die to the use of proprietary drivers.

seriously whats up with all this proprietary talk i don't get it
we have tons of kernel devs doing wonders like Goku said and its just been three month
we just had a completely working linux 3.4 kernel written from scratch by devs and even wifi drivers are being written for scratch

we had a fully working CM9 in just one month from release you really think CM9 official will not come? official CM will always favor devices close to the nexus line in terms of release date

In a word, yes get the hox, I played with an siii today, screen is so dull, touch wiz is awful and from all accounts camera is better on the hox. Don't bother with roms myself as I find the hox works just about perfect on stock.

Agree I was actually thinking about switching until I tried S3... The HOX is indeed the best.

I wouldn't say 'the best', both devices have pros and cons.
- but for what I'm after, beautiful phone, feels premium, awesome screen, OTA updates and dedicated nvidia T3 optimized games, the HOX is definitely the better option for me as I don't require removable battery or sd card slot.
But for me, the screen alone is sooo much better on the HOX, and the screen is always the most important spec of any large touch screen phone.

Yeah but on my current device. Despite having all the goodies and kernel development. The camera still doesn't work as good as the stock. There's still sound issues etc. I never read about these things with OMAP devices.

Thanks for the reply. I really just want it for the hardware. But rating is over the S3 does bring a smile to my face.

See what happens to SGS3 when SGS4 coming in. HOX will get better support. I mean long term support. Look at SGS2, not much going in in the original development, ICS upgrade are rushed work. I have a SGS2 so I know the dev environment for that phone. Most dev ditch it for Galaxy Nexus or SGS3. Look at SGS1, no official ICS by Samsung lolz, which have the same spec as Nexus S, and reason is Touchwiz related. Yes SGS3 get CM9 first. Now lets see who get CM10 first. SGS2 got a late CM9 cuz of sources. Not only late on releasing sources, but Samsung messed it up. The CM9 devs almost give up(which i'm glad they didnt) and now AOSP roms are better than TW ICS on SGS2. HTC Sensation got CM9 first compared to SGS2(which was released at the same time). See what i did there? Samsung will dump their previous flagship that easy.
Sensation VS SGS2
- same time release with Gingerbread but when ICS rolled out, Samsung released a rushed firmware upgrade and rushed sources, which makes CM9 slower while Sensation got everything working easily in the early CM9 phase. SGS2 had it too, but too many things not working.
- Sensation still got true and RD devs working on, while SGS2 has many winzippers(no offense to anyone) only(see their forums, has it split between 2 development threads). cuz RD devs on SGS2 find it difficult to work with SGS2 sources. I am not sure why, but no updates for months from them, except CM9 team.
SGS3? yeah cuz they got released with ICS so they got CM9 working fast. Now see when Jelly Bean comes. SGS2 has a lot of devs in the early days, but most has ditch it half way. I admit, SGS2 is still a great device. it was a legendary that revolutionize the dual core, but Samsung wasted it when they have a new flagships.
Your choice. if you like changing phones, go for SGS3, cuz you can buy SGS4 afterwards. but if not, go for HOX, more power till the end of its life. else, buy an iphone. much more easier, peace of mind.

I think the HOX is a brilliant phone, and I've had none of the more permanent faults, like the WiFi issue..
Only fault I've had was the yellow spots, but they went away the next day and I haven't seen them since, also I think it was my own fault.. I was in a public place and I was messing about with settings when it started blaring out music, really loud, and I couldn't turn it down, so I applied pressure to the back to silence it.

Your choice in the end.
I've got both devices and will be sending back my SGS3 for a full refund.
Why?
- I prefer Sense,
- I prefer SLCD2,
- I prefer the brightness,
- I prefer the looks,
- I prefer the build,
- I prefer HTCs overall device support including OTAs and longer albeit slower releases of newer Android versions,
- I prefer the helpful guys on this side,
- I prefer the camera
- I prefer the social network integration,
- I prefer the mail app,
etc etc
Both are good phones don't get me wrong, I'll keep saying any user will be happy with either BUT:
- Removable/extendable battery
- Extendable storage
If the above 2 are important to you avoid the HOX and opt for something else, if not an issue the HOX is a good choice out of the 2 top end Android handsets presently.
I'm not going to say buy the HOX over the SGS3 or vice versa, but I do suggest you handle both then make a decision as user experience is better than me or anyone else saying x y or z about the device.

Another opened BS thread, clutter, nothing to learn, boring, pfffff...
To my opinion it's, to yours it's probably not.

Thanks again everyone. As I said, for me thi sis more about hardware purchase than software preference. I'm not too fond of Sense and really haven't played with TW enough to have an educated decision. But ultimately want rid of the bloat and want to be in charge of my own destiny. Hearing that this phone is considered a first class citizen of the community and is most likely to be the successor to the HD2 is what swings it for me. As I'm coming the Incredible S which for all of it's beauty is essentially a third class citizen. I'll look forward to picking up my HOX midweek.

You will never get a real successor to the HD2. I highly doubt that there will be a phone released any time soon which will be able to do so much and still have such active development after nearly three years.
The One X is good but Sense is very unnecessary for ICS in comparison to GB and Froyo. TouchWiz on the other hand is actually rather great now. I hated it for older versions of Android but it seems perfect on the SGS3. It's the little details which are really very impressive, and it's just so smooth. And to whoever said the screen on the SGS3 is dull, with all due respect are you an idiot?! It's by far the best phone screen I've used (better than the One X as well).
One more advantage of the SGS3 over the One X is just how simple it is to root. From what I've read about the One X, it's a bit troublesome to root and flash custom ROMs etc. whilst even someone like myself (never flashed a native Android phone before) can easily use Odin and flash things without really having to do too much thinking.

The one x's screen is better then the s3's... It's sharper and the colours look so much better. Plus u can actually view it in sunlight.
