got my 9020T updated OTA to 2.3.6 few days ago. since this update i'm seeing the 'network location service' always active under 'google services'. network location service used to live under maps in 2.3.4 when activated. i have 'wireless network' positioning disabled in my settings but the service is still running under its new found home.
does this mean we no longer have the option to opt out of continuously sharing our location with google? or my update got messed up somehow?

a few things first.
1. I have the internet access block on AT&T's end.
2. I live in a area that is mostly edge only, but work in areas with 3g.
3. As far as I can tell, I have nothing that use GPRS turned on. (weather data is not set to auto update, no e-mail services, AGPS is disabled)
when I end a call in a edge network area, or restart my phone, I get the following error message
"There is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in you registered home network"
I do not get this error when I am in a 3g service area.
Any suggestions?
it seems like the "Use wireless networks" in the location settings does not work properly. Enabling it then going to either google mobile page or google maps and waiting for about a minute results in retuning an error message about being unable to determine my location (roughly), anyone else having the same issue ?
by the way, using GPS satellite works flawlessly
Hey guys, I'm an Android developer in Austin, TX and the last couple days I noticed Network Location stopped working on 3G. It does, however, work on 2G [Edge] and WiFi.
Luckily there's a T-Mobile corporate sales office in my building so I went upstairs to talk to them. They had me write an email which they forwarded to their RF Engineers.
Got an email back last night saying their Sr RF Engineer was having the same problems I explained in my email and that the issue had been unknown to them prior to me raising it.
Needless to say, they're looking into it. However, I'm curious if anyone else in another city is having the same issue, particular one of the 50+ cities that was just upgraded to 42 Mbps.
To test:
1. Turn off WiFi
2. Reboot phone
3. Open Google Maps
4. Click on 'My Location' button @ top right.
You should see a "waiting for location" test message followed by a "location temporarily unavailable" toast message a minute or so later.
And for the record, I have tested this on a G2x, 2 N1's, and a NS with same results on each phone (in Austin, TX of course)
Just downloaded the EU RUU from the HTCDev website and updated my Desire S even though previously (Gingerbread) it was RUU of India. May be because the RUU uploaded is WWE (World Wide Edition). Did anyone receive OTA update ?
Anyways, after update I checked Google maps with GPS satellites OFF in 3G network. I was getting Location unavailable. However, I was able to get it with 2G network. Anyone else faced this issue ? In 3G with GPS Satellites On I was able to get a location. In all cases I had an active data connection in 3G or 2G.
If someone out there did not get their phone updated yet and has 3G, can you please verify if we can get position on maps with 3G with GPS satellites OFF and with just active data connection?
I think, it's matter of your network or rom itself.
I experienced somethin simmilar.
I was on WIFI, and the weather widget was saying "Location unavailable" although it downloaded weather for my location. After couple of hours it was ok. I got mine location.
No issues on my end.. Works with or without GPS ON.. on WiFi, 3G.. still have to check 2G.. But you say it works for you anyway..
Go to settings -> Locations and make sure you have the Google's location service option checked..
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app

I have checked that option and yet for 3G with GPS OFF and active data connection it is giving location unavailable. Any solution ?
My phone cannot get my current location.
I turned on the GPS and Wifi. At location setting, I ticked "Google's location service", "GPS satellites" and "Location & Google search". The location service still does not work. It keeps on notifying me that "Your location is temporarily unavailable". Please help.
