ThUnDeR & LiGhTnInG bEtA - EVO 4G Android Development

This is my first attempt at a rom; so tips would be nice
This is based on Misfit Beta 2
With King's Black Ice Theme
With a few tweaks from me
***HOW TO FLASH/INSTALL ROM***
1. Boot into recovery
2. Wipe All User data/factory reset
3. Wipe Cache
4. Wipe Dalvik Cache
5. Flash "'s FORMAT ALL.zip"
6. Flash "ThUnDeR & LiGhTnInG bEtA.zip"
7. Reboot
8. Enjoy
Problem: Skip Setup and go to Language and Keyboards and select HTC_IME. This will activate the keyboard. Then go back into the setup and Enjoy!!!
(If it doesn't Come up then just go to people and select a contact and edit the name. Then it will come up.)
If You Want A2SD: After The ROM settles in, Boot back into recovery and flash "dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip"
(Before Flashing "dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip" Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache.)

How Can I Switch/Update my Kernel/CWM/ROM?

With the recent update of CWM/PBJ kernel I'd like to update to the latest ones and I'd also like to switch ROMs to test some other ones out. Can someone guide me through this? I've never switched before I just followed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657), that's it(as far as flashing and such goes). I'd just like an easy to follow guide on updating the Kernel/CWM and installing a new ROM(If and when I'd need to disable Voodoo, if flashing something will reset all my contacts/apps, etc) I'd really appreciate it and thanks will be in order for anyone and everyone who is helpful :]
Info: I'm running 6/15 PBJ OC kernel with 1.8.5 Gummycharged ROM
There's not much to it. kernel and Rom can be updated in CWM.
Download the rom you want to flash to /sdcard (root of your sdcard)
reboot into recovery. If you do not have the option holding down the power button and hitting restart. Dl a terminal emulator and type:
Code:
$su (to gain root)
#reboot recovery
Wipe Cache and factory data reset
Go to advanced: Wipe Dalvik cache and battery settings
scroll to flash with a zip
choose: select zip from sdcard
choose the zip that you downloaded
once the install is complete reboot phone. let rom install
Follow same thing for Kernel. Just make sure you remember what the name of your kernel is.

That works a treat thank you.
Easier way to get into CWM: hold down Power+Volume Up+Home until you see SAMSUNG, let go, and you'll boot straight into recovery. No need to mess around with terminal commands.
Also, when flashing a kernel only (not a ROM), there's no need to wipe data.

[HOW TO] Homescreen Questions

I received a few PMs regarding a screenshot of my homescreen I posted as well as 'how to install a new rom'. So I thought I would give a quick rundown with links so I can answer everyone at the same time.
The key to success is WIPE WIPE WIPE! Here's what I do. I've never had an issue.
1. Download and install Android SDK here. (keep dir simple. install to C:\android)
2. Achieve S-off, ClockWork Recovery, Root, and SuperCID here.
3. Download Revolution HD 1.1.5 here.
4. Download Super Wipe here.
5. Download No-Sense Script here.
6. Place all three files on the root of your sdcard.
7. Reboot into recovery: a. wipe data/factory reset, b. wipe cache partition, c. wipe dalvik cache, d. wipe battery stats
8. Still in recovery: a. install zip from sdcard, b. select 'Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_Sensation'
9. Still in recovery: a. install zip from sdcard, b. select 'Android_Revolution_HD-Sensation_1.1.5'
10. Still in recovery: a. wipe cache partition, b. wipe dalvik cache
11. Still in recovery: a. install zip from sdcard, b. select 'Android_Revolution_HD_no-sense_0.16'
12. Still in recovery: a. wipe cache partition, b. wipe dalvik cache
13. Reboot into android. Let phone sit for 15 minutes. Do not touch it or install any apps.
14. Reboot into recovery: a. wipe cache partition, b. wipe dalvik cache (to fix market issue)
15. Reboot into android.
16. Install these apps from Market: 'ADWLauncher EX', 'SiMi Clock Pro', 'Circle Battery Widget', & lastly 'AndroidPhone7'
17. Enjoy the layout. I think it's pretty clean.
Also, let me take this opportunity to thank all the devs on this site. Without them our mobile devices would suck.

after doing your nandroid backup,
DO A FULL WIPE:
1) wipe DATA
2) wipe CACHE
3) wipe DALVIK CACHE (in advanced menu)
4) do this at least TWICE, just to be on the safe side.
after wiping:
flash ROM.ZIP first, then REBOOT
after reboot and setting up, reboot the phone again into clockworkmod recovery and WIPE CACHE AND DALVIK CACHE.
then flash kernel.zip.
reboot and enjoy. oh, and also hit the thanks button
So when should we be mounting system. Is it not necessary?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
after your full wipe, then you do install from zip, that should do everything needed to install/mount/whatever magic goes into installing that ROM on your phone
i've never consciously done anything to my memory of manually mounting anything. Just wipe -> rom install

[GUIDE] How to flash roms/kernels

How to flash CLEAN flash roms - This is how I flash roms(even updates of the same rom) and the method i recommend to users. It is better to take 10 mins to set your phone again rahter than wasting more time to fix issues that could have been avoided by a clean flash.
NOTE- This is a MUST when changing roms.
1. Backup EFS
2. Make a nandroid backup in recovery
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Wipe system
5. Wipe cache
6. Wipe dalvik
7. Flash ROM
8. Flash gapps(if flashing an AOSP ROM)
9. Flash kernel(optional)
10. Reboot
11. Wait 10 mins, then do another reboot
12. Enjoy
How to DIRTY flash roms - This method is used by users when flashing a update of the same rom.
NOTE- Some users follow this and some just flash the rom without wiping anything.
Note- If you flash rom that has aroma installer you will need to edit the updater script to make sure the aroma doesn't wipe system before flashing rom.
1. Backup EFS
2. Make a nandroid backup in recovery
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Flash ROM
6. Flash gapps(if flashing an AOSP ROM)
7. Flash kernel(optional)
8. Reboot
9. Wait 10 mins, then do another reboot
10. Enjoy
How to SUPER CLEAN flash roms - This is the method that I recommend to your that have weird issues, even after clean flashing.
NOTE - If you dont know how to Odin the stock FW(firmware), read this guide.
NOTE - Make a backup of your internal sdcard and save rom/gapps/kernel/etc on external sdcard.
1. Backup EFS
2. Make a nandroid backup in recovery
3. Odin the stock FW(firmware) for your device, the phone will boot into the OS
4. Boot into download mode and flash a custom recovery, I recommend TWRP
5. Wipe internal storage
6. Wipe data/factory reset
7. Wipe system
8. Wipe cache
9. Wipe dalvik
10. Flash ROM
11. Flash gapps(if flashing an AOSP ROM)
12. Flash kernel(optional)
13. Reboot
14. Wait 10 mins, then do another reboot
15. Enjoy

How to flash flash kernels - Many users say to wipe cache/dalvik but it's useless as neither if their partitions are affected when flashing a kernel.
1. Boot into recovery
2. Flash kernel
