plz be more specific. what rom are you on?

I'm normally at around 280-300. Whats your point?

Android caches stuff in RAM automatically as part of normal operations.
Don't worry about it unless you start seeing serious issues with lowmemkiller triggering and taking out apps.

Any way to free up RAM in CM7?

Hey guys, the longer I leave the phone on the less RAM I have.. I am down to a measly 62MB of ram at the end of the day.. I thought that android 2.2+ didn't need task killers? Anyone have any apps or ideas to help with that?
Edit: Please move this thread, I posted it in the completely wrong section I didn't have my glasses on, sorry.
Don't use any task killers but if you need a memory helper def go with "autokiller" from market. Its free and will def free up some ram for ya.

Does your phone slow down? If it's not slowing down, don't worry about it. Apps stay asleep in ram and don't run, this just means they don't have to be reloaded and are saved in the position they are in when you left them... this is the pseudo multi-tasking. If it's not slow, don't mess with it. Mine runs down that low fairly often with no loss of speed. But you can adjust the minimum settings in autokiller as suggested above if it bothers you that much
you can always enable some swap space.

Are you talking about compcache?
And my phone seems to progressively get laggier throughout the day but a reboot every morning seems to be sufficient.
Using autokiller with the optimum preset keeps me with 120 mb free and things still run fast and smooth. . .

I use advanced task killer and it works fine. Under settings I have auto kill set to safe and to do it when screen turns off
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA Premium App
Comp cache will be slower, and isn't necessary for phones with as much ram as ours. Swap is far different than comp cache, and may help some, but I notice no difference.

one thing that I do is use Titanium Backup to roll updates into the ROM. it hasnt caused me any issues yet that a reboot doesnt solve.
If you long press on an item in Titanium Backup...you get an option to integrate update into rom. Doing that will free up a small bit of storage, but for multiple apps it might add up for some people. My phone is smooth as butter running CM7

Maybe running donut or eclair, but anything post froyo has absolutely no need for a task killer, simply use google search.

How do I not lose All defaults when reset.

Every reset and some times when I kill tasks I loose all my program defaults. Trying to ignore then on list not enough it still happens. Its different programs each time. Launcher then my phone then contacts. Have redo the defaults. Any clue how make sure stops. Is because apps on as card?

Stop killing tasks and learn how android works. Smh. How many threads are you going to open where you don't heed any advice?

I have listened. I learned how to use my sd card. I fixed network issues. Also stream lined my apps. No double apps. I even managed more ram. I'm happy. I use a auto kill so doubt its doing it because I safe everything. My only issues now.
1. Google maps keeps deleting its self
2. My go locker changes
When this happens is at random. Doesn't seem be anything app doing it. I'm thinking its my Rom possibly. Bone. Skeeter
Doing my best bro. My phone is my only computer. Hard to read up as well as on a computer.
Thanks for the help.

So odd I tried one app at a time. Might have start over with fresh rom. Its not bad problem just annoying. It deletes two random apps every restart. Thank god for titanium back up

I have no idea what you are doing but I loose nothing over device resets. Period. Explain in detail exactly what you are doing, what ROM you are running, what launcher you are using and a list of 3rd party apps you are running.

Do you close active applications or just leave them running?

Do you close active applications when you're done with them or simply leave them running?
I've been reading that it's best practice to just leave apps as they are when you're done using them. That you can end up causing problems or even eating more battery/resources if you use a task manager to close them.
What's your take?
If its a game or such, I exit out of the game with the back button, ending the task. I don't normally kill any other background apps unless i'm troubleshooting or its causing problems.
Its true what they say about task killers and prematurely ending tasks. Android by version 2.2 had become adept at handling background tasks and ending them when needed. No user interference is required.

+1. With the new ROMs Task Killers are total useless. They can do more harm then good. OF COURSE, exiting/quitting apps THAT HAVE an exit button is a good idea.
Good luck !

If that really bothers you it is best to REBOOT your phone. It is a much, much better way to return to "zero". And it takes a min at most...
It also really helps reset apps etc..... With something like ICS, unless you fully understand its memory mangement, clearing memory willy-nilly only leads to phone mess-up and then yu'll have to reboot any way.
Personally, I only kill an app that has stopped responding. And usually I do that by restarting.

Indeed it does. It's a built in task manager.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
Well ics handles it slightly different giving the user the ability to control the amount of stuff in the background runing. No reason to use a task manager
Really, unless an app is giving you problems or excessively draining your battery, they should be left as they are. Ever since Froyo, Android has done a really good job of memory management.

Two hour battery life please help

I'm ruining stock ICS 4.0.4. Noticed yesterday my phone was really sluggish and battery life would go from%100 to dead in about two hours. I went into settings then apps and looked at my running apps and my phone was scrolling through all of my apps. I don't think that's normal. My widgets are slow to activate and my phone is slow to respond. Any help would be appreciated. Does this sound like a virus or a simple fix?

I did hear that from a friend and I didn't believe it...
Now I'm starting to believe...
Best way fresh install, format internal sd.
That way you know for sure if it's a virus or not.
Good luck!

That's not going to tell you if its a virus noob. It could be any number of things causing the slowdown. What are your friends credentials because if its not a background in networking security he's got nothing but here say. Unfortunately for you I am a security professional. The likelihood of a virus is slim to none. Its more likely memory issues some apps probably consuming more than its share.

Bad info and fear are not good input either. The reset would probably help but not because of a virus but freeing up tons of previously used space.

This is a good idea.
You may have a app wakelocking keeping your CPU running and not deep sleeping like stated above there is like a .01 percent chance its a virus.
Wipe every thing reflash ROM of choice let settle then install your apps one a time waiting a few minutes between them so u can see witch one dose it.
Read up on the wake lock thread and see what betterbatterystats tells you. Or you could just flash a new rom

Hey thanx to all who responded. I ended up backing up my phone and doing a reset. Lost all my sips but that's no biggie. Went back with sock ICS and all seems to be fine. Once again thanx for helping out a somewhat noob!
So just to see if I understood :
You are using stock but rooted (?)
And your battery last only two hours.
I had the same issue with a ROM. First you have to shut off al your radios, data, gps, wifi, bt... Just to be aware if none of these things that are draining your battery life.
Then you should try to verify your battery charger. There's an sticky here in the forum. And lastly you have to check wakelocks... There's a good discussion about that here also.
I know it's kind of disappointing at the beginning, but when you finally understand all the symptoms of your phone you will solve all the troubles really quick... It's like having a newborn baby, at the beginning you don't know why they cry but when you learn about them you can identify every "kind of cry".
Best regards.

Ram issue

For some reason I'm having a ram issue its always saying I have 3-4mb left when I only have a little over half used, why would it do that, and what can I do to fix it, I have cleared the cache and dalvik and it helps for a little bit but then goes back to where it is now, I can't even play games because it freezes really bad

Our phone only has 512mb RAM total, playing games can tend to be a little tricky at times. I use this RAM booster app, has a nice task killer that runs on the nav bar.. just search the play store for RAM booster.
I am doing that but look at the pic....tell me if that makes any sense.....

No, it doesn't make any sense... Seems to me that you must have a bad app that is causing a memory leak. I'm not that familiar with the Infuse 4G yet, but I have seen enough applications on computers with memory leaks to know that looks like an indication of what you have.
Maybe a Task Manager program would tell you which app is causing a memory leak, or you can do it the old school way as qkster recommended.

Take that a step further and clear off all your apps, adding them back one by one until you find the one that makes your memory drain so badly.
FWIW, my thoughts. Good luck.
It looks like it was facebook...I deleted it and had no issues, but seeing as the phone is now lost in the ocean, I see no point anymore lol, I switched back to my note 2, not a fan of the s4, dropped it on carpet and the screen cracked, that's bs Samsung isn't making study phones anymore I guess lol, although they do have the s4 active....but it looks lame
