I was looking into buying a Moto Triumph and was wondering if after rooting if roaming was possible since Virgin Mobile says they don't have roaming. I am currently using HD2 HyperDroid. I have search and I have come up empty handed. If I am looking in the wrong place please send to the right place. Thanks in Advance
As far as I can tell, it's not doable. Unless you explicitly figure out how to swap the Triumph into being a Sprint phone... there have been a few discussions on this but it's basically the carrier that's making it not roam.
OK just thought it would be worth a look. Thanks

Tbh you don't really need to roam here in Florida where I live I get 1-3 bars of 3g where my hd2 and vibrant got 1-3 bars of edge. Not to mention when I go inside my house I lose all service with my Tmous phones unless I have my phone up to one of my windows. I don't have this problem with my mt at all. I have traveled to the most remote locations in a country area and at least got one bar of 3g with my mt where I did not get any service with my Tmous phones. For that reason I have canceled my service with Tmous and am now with virgin mobile and couldn't be happier.

Did I mention how much money I'm saving? If you ask me its worth every penny. I love being able to surf the web and make calls and not hold my phone by a window. People used to lauph at me and ask what I was doing. So glad I don't have to explain that anymore. I'm the one asking them that joking around now lol. If it wasn't for wifi calling I would have left Tmous long ago. Love Tmous customer service though. They will be missed...

i currently have an inspire 4g but under tmobile
i have rooted and installed CM7. everythings running great but i really hate the fact that im only getting 2g connection just because im tmobile, and this is an atnt phone. im really close to just trading it for a tmobile 4g phone just so i can take advantage of my plan...
so basically my question is..
can an HTC Inspire 4g from ATnT acquire 3g or 4g from a tmobile sim card ?!
i think i know the answer because about the GSM Bands but is there anyways at all? basically, change APN's or ROMS that radio those bands? please and Thanks so much XDA community! Thanks in advance!
Sorry to tell you but no there is no way. The radio is set for ATT frequencies. It is the same for a tmobile phone on ATT. I would try and trade for a tmobile phone. Check Craigslist see what you can come up with.

You just need to find someone switching to ATT. An even trade would prolly happen. But to trade ATT to tmobile for someone on tmobile you'll prolly have to add some cash. I'd delete the other post repost and add that you may add cash for the right trade. Although I wouldn't add much.

I am thinking very seriously about unlocking my G2x an going to AT&T because my service sucks big time where I live at. Why you say that for?

G2x supposedly does NOT contain AT$T 3G bands as previously advertised. As for home coverage, T-Mo is supposed to be launching an in-home signal booster for free (with 2-yr contract, probably doesn't effect upgrade timeline but haven't verified that) pretty soon. I think within the next week.

My understanding is the booster needs to be connected to your broadband internet router to work. So you will be using your internet bandwidth to use mobile voice and data. What a scam...
And any one visiting you (or you neighbor) with a t-mobile connection will use that signal (your internet) and pay t-mobile for that.

Hopefully your "source" isn't an otherwise reputable source of information because you (they) couldn't be more wrong. I have been a part of the beta for these boosters for the past 6 months. All it does is take a weak 3G signal (which means you must get 3G somewhere in your house for this to work) and amplifies it throughout your house. In my case in an upstairs window I got a weak 3G signal so I put the receiver in the window and the transmitter in my living room. Now I get between 1 and 6mbps down throughout my entire house. There is not even a way to connect this thing to a home internet router. I don't even have home internet.
I'd be curious to know where you heard this.
Oh and the G2x does not work on AT&T 3G bands. I have been in several states with no T-Mobile coverage and have used AT&T instead, but only on Edge.

I did not say I heard this from someone. I said its my understanding, and that was based on the similar booster I saw from Sprint. If t-mobile is implementing it in a different way, than i am sorry for my ignorance.

I didn't intend to sound overtly defensive, I just don't like when people start using the "scam" word when this couldn't be further from a scam. This device kicks ass and tmo wants to give it out for free in exchange for people's business. This device is normally $500 so this program is great. Hopefully they will also offer the equipment at full retail price for those uncomfortable signing or extending a contract.

Lots of countries are messed up. We just finally got all the carriers providing 3G here in Thailand. Two of them are providing 3G on 850Mhz (DTAC and TrueMove), one is on 900Mhz and the other is on 2100Mhz. A big grab bag. An AT&T phone will get 3G on two of them. Some TMO phones get 3G on the other one. But all phones get it on the 2100 carrier. I am using my G2X on 2100Mhz here (TOT3G) and my Nexus One on 900Mhz (AIS). So the USA isn't the only country with non-unified 3G bands.

I currently have an ATT Infuse running gingerbread infused 2.1 that gets near perfect 4g reception in my house. However, for whatever reason my downstairs ATT 3g microcell gives me 1-2 bars and blocks me from getting that 4g reception.
This problem has a been a real pain in the rear for me. My text messages never send the first try, pic txts r very unreliable, and calls tale forever to dial.
My parents refuse to get rid of this microcell because their iphones can't see the 4g reception nearby (ya and they dare to even call them iphone 4s, nice marketing technique apple) so I cannot turn this box off.
I've also noticed that only my family plan gets to see the microcell, I was wondering how to go about turning this thing on and off (for this phone only) without disrupting my parents' 3g experience.
Any help would be appreciated.

:edit: On a serious note at&t 3g and 4g use the exact same towers and bands so I don't see how what you are saying is possible.
Wrong, in several cases did neither of my family's iphone 4s have any reception when my infuse had full 4g, learn more before you insult my intelligence again.

This is an easy fix buddy, The Mcell only works for phone that you add the number to authorized devices on the att.com website. Simply have your parents remove your number and you will no longer be able to access the mcell.

TMobile is killing me. The have me stuck in a contract that i did not agree to for the next two years. I have asked for a transcript of the upgrade/renewal call, they declined and have told me to drop it and not contact them again regarding the issue - I cancel i get two ETF's!!
Well i would hate the Hit on my credit, but will never pay them based on the principle of the matter.
My question involves unlocking the phone and using it on one of the pay as you go providers: Their coverage in my area is not great, but oh well.
I see online sites where i text to their number and they send back a code that unlocks the phone...anyone tried? any good?
What about the SIM card? Any info on how that will work? places to but etc..
any help whatsover? I've always just dealt with AT&T and Tmobile, have no experience unlocking or getting around anything like that.
G2x only works with GSM networks and 3g/4g only works with Tmobile network.
If you want to use your g2x with other carrier, you will still end up with networks who are resellers of either at&t and tmobile.

I don't think this kind of stuff shows on your credit report anyway.
How far up the command chain did you press the issue with T-Mobile? You had to have signed and agreed to something when you set up your account with them. That signed contract is all that matters.

That's the issue. Their over the phone system is flawed. The process is to speak with a REP then they transfer you to an automated system, which is the signing if you will. The auto system ststes your phone # and that you are acknowledging entering into a contract - NO DETAILS of the contract.
I am at the mercy of the communication between me and the REP and the accuracy of their input into whatever system they use.
I went Customer Service -Loyalty -Contract review. So three levels up the chain and was told in the last correspondence they will not investigate any further, Do not email again - Case closed.

That would be a nice savings...is it like a reload system. What interested me about Virgin was they had a $25 plan. I think it's $35 now, not sure if if the cheaper is available. Anyway, only had a few minutes but UTT and data. The trick was to download some program (forget teh name) and teh calls go through the data so no minutes are used!
Also, Metro PCS seems to be the major player around here.

+1 SM works fine. Had a data tower issues last week. But the cost is worth it.
They just rolled out a $40.00 monthly everything unlimited. Data is only 3G on that one though. And you cannot tether with them. SO that kind of sucks.
Hi sorry for posting in the Sensation forum but my device is the Sensation so I posted here. Tmo is giving away FREE in home signal boosters. I got a text message about this so I inquired about it. I finally got them to send me one cause I get virtually no signal in my house. It was totally free of charge and no contract extention. They have certain terms that apply. For instance you can't live in an apartment. Now I basically live in a duplex but its technically a one family dwelling according to my local county auditors office so after talking to 3 representatives I was finally able to get the MFs to send me one (expedited shipping). They were telling me something about 911 and them not knowing which place to go to. Now honestly I could see how that would be a problem but me and my neighbors all have the same door to go into. Difference is that you go upstairs to my place and straight into my neighbor's when you go in the front door. Plus my 911 info says upstairs on it anyways. So I will finally be able to use my phone in my own home. I am very excited. You gotta tell them you got a text message about it and make sure if you live in an apartment that it is technically a "one family dwelling". I was lucky.
By the way, not everybody lives in NYC, close together where everyone can get access to free wifi signals in the comfort of their own homes. I did have internet at home with a wifi router but I did not want to pay for 50 a month for home internet and 20 a month for mobile internet too. So how is it "pretty useless" if you don't have wifi and or your phone don't support uma? It is a signal booster. It boosts your signal inside your home when you would otherwise have no signal. Not everyone lives in Perfectnothingevergoeswrongland.
