[Q] quick question about sim card and data connection... - HTC Inspire 4G

i currently have an inspire 4g but under tmobile
i have rooted and installed CM7. everythings running great but i really hate the fact that im only getting 2g connection just because im tmobile, and this is an atnt phone. im really close to just trading it for a tmobile 4g phone just so i can take advantage of my plan...
so basically my question is..
can an HTC Inspire 4g from ATnT acquire 3g or 4g from a tmobile sim card ?!
i think i know the answer because about the GSM Bands but is there anyways at all? basically, change APN's or ROMS that radio those bands? please and Thanks so much XDA community! Thanks in advance!

Sorry to tell you but no there is no way. The radio is set for ATT frequencies. It is the same for a tmobile phone on ATT. I would try and trade for a tmobile phone. Check Craigslist see what you can come up with.

aww. smh. such a nice phone but with a lousy service . no offence ATNT but ATNT dug me out from head to toe. so much hidden fees and no unlimited data. sad
went on craigslist and i guess the 4g for tmobiles are way better than and more valuable than the 4g's of the atnts. been 5 days since i last posted and no call or text. *sigh*
anyways. thanks Carlrobling thats a thank you button.

You just need to find someone switching to ATT. An even trade would prolly happen. But to trade ATT to tmobile for someone on tmobile you'll prolly have to add some cash. I'd delete the other post repost and add that you may add cash for the right trade. Although I wouldn't add much.

How is T-mobile in New York and in general

Hi guys,
Don't blast me guys if you think this is a useless thread.
I was looking to buy the sensation for my wife but we have never had a contract with t-mobile and as such do not have any experience with them personally. In philly friends who had t-mobile weren't always happy about their signal when traveling out of town or just the fact that most people we knew were on At&t. Does T-mobile have truly unlimited data?
Anyway for a change I was looking to you guys for a review of t-mobile rather than the phone itself.
Also just to be sure if I buy it out of contract I could use AT&T sim card right?
Thanks for any replies. Much appreciated. Enjoy your phone.

I'm in NYC and Tmo's coverage here is great. I dont travel much and when I do it's usually big cities so I've never had a problem with signal. I know when I go to some more rual areas I have some issues but that's not too often.
TMO does have unlimited data BUT you get throttled to dial up speeds if you go above 2gb/5gb/10gb(depending on the plan you have)
You will be able to use your ATT sim card if you buy an unlocked sensation or have yours unlocked. But ATT uses different 3G bands as TMO so I think you would be stuck on 2G speeds
Thanks for the reply. You see I am on sprint (EVO 4G) and I love Sprint's unlimited everything plan.I don't think they do the throttling thing.
So buying it unlocked and using AT&T is a no go if it's going to be stuck on 2G speeds.

No Problem Yeah I think Verizon and Sprint are the only ones with TRUE unlimited data.
You might want to hold off then. I do think I read somewhere that a Sensation with ATT bands went through the FCC, So they might be releasing the sensation soon on ATT

Swapping services

So I had the Inspire 4G on AT&T and my girlfriend became an ex and now I don't have service. I was wondering if I can swap the ROM to a Verizon ROM and run it on their network. Please help.
Short answer, no. The long answer has to do with radio frequencies and technology used. For voice and 2G data you could use T-mobile. You may have a regional service provider option also. I do not know what is available in your area.
No you can't. ATT is gsm and Verizon is cdma. You could use it on tmobile if its unlocked but will only get edge speeds.

Your best option is to sell the phone now, while its hot and get some good money off of it and buy another phone.
I personally am still pretty new to rooting and all but doesn't verizon have sim cards for their world phones?
Thanks for the information, I didn't think I would be able to. It is rooted but I need to do a complete wipe on the phone and return it to stock with root. Thanks for the help and hopefully I will be able to sell this with some scuffs on it. Maybe just try for $100 rooted.
or unlock it and use simple mobile... unlimited everything for like 60 bucks a month, ( and 3g ) no contract. but check coverage.. etc....
Why not do the most simple thing get a pay as you go phone. Swap the sim into the inspire. $50 unlimited everything. Don't try telling me it wont work either. I have used two different iphones and a blackberry on pay as you go. And dont try the different sim thing either. When I went contract they had me use the same sim. Just go get a cheap pay as you go phone register it swap the sim and try it out.
Buddy 3g won't work. The frequency bands are not compatible with tmkbile(simple mobile). Unless you got Att or a side branch that runs off at towers and signal, you will ONLY get Edge speeds end of story. Don't proven using tmobile and simple mobile.

Your getting screwed. Really dude put your sim in a cheap phone. Get your imei changed. Then try and don't bother calling them to change back. Dude really come on man you don't have to call them every time you change phones. By the way read yourself the fine print doesn't say anything about price per KB. Says it requires a data plan. Your still talking stupid if I could use an iPhone on pay as you go the I assure you if you don't call them and say hey I have an inspire (duh) it will work just fine for you. Ok I tried to keep this nice but sense you you want to get rude about it. Let me let you in on a little secret, for the past few months att has been locking the prepaid sim cards to the phone by IMEI they are activated on for 6 months. The only way to have it unlocked is by calling them to get it unlocked in which case they want the imei of the new phone. They have also implamented the IMEI scan they do for the contract lines. So even if you have an older sim card that is not locked, After a while then will notice and data will stop working. Now How do I know this you ask? I just spent the last year as the Store manager for a local ATT retail store. So the next time you decide to be rude, you might want to take a min and think that maybe, just maybe you dont have all the facts.
And I do stand corrected on the pay-per use data. That was what it did before they started blocking it.

Why do I have to pay more?

So I upgraded from my Nexus One to a Sensation 4g and TMO said they have to charge me $5 more a month cause of the 4g. I took my wife's mytouch 3g and my phone side by side and we get the exact same speeds and the area I'm in is supossed to be 4g. why do I have to pay more for the same thing?

Was your 4g on? Her mytouch 3g doesn't utilize the spectrum T-Mobile puts out the same way that your sensation would. And even if you're in a bad 4g area or non existent area they make you pay the 4g cost regardless. It happens on Sprint as well.

We were both connected to HSDPA. I've never seen it connect to anything higher then HSDPA
Bull!
Call loyalty and tell them to fix it! I pay $20 a month for preferred android, and I get 4G speeds. (At least when I am in Dallas, cause we don't do 4G in west texas) They are just trying to squeeze more $$ out of you.

That's just false info right there. They both use the exact same spectrum for 3G/4G, it's just the Sensation is able to get faster download/upload speeds.

More details? What did they put you on? I work for T-Mobile and unless you had the really old 25 dollar android data and they added the old(but newer then the old 25) 30 dollar 5 gig internet, we don't have any 5 dollar add on for 4G. What they should have done was upgraded your plan to the new stuff where you have a choice of the $10 200mb $20 2gig or $30 5gig. The older rate plans are only capable of having the $30 web added in store. If you call care though you can get the $20 preferred plan, stores can't add that.
What I would say is instead of complaining on here about pay $5 extra, call care and make sure you are on the best plan for you. Reps at store level tend to not even pitch the idea of changing rate plans to customers and just tack on whatever feature Watson tells us to. You're probably paying more then you should be due to your own and your reps negligence. It's funny because as a rep I make much more money by saving my customers money with putting them on new plans, I don't know why so few reps just tack on the stuff and send the customer on their way. Call care, I am SURE they can get you a better deal.
Ok. I will do that. Thanks

Let me know what they had you on and switch you too. You'd be surprised what they may have now. Its funny people think that their unlimited loyalty plans and what not are so good but the new plans are much better. Reps tend to just agree with the people when they think they have a good plan because convincing them otherwise tends to be to troublesome. Or you just get get a lazy rep, sadly nine times out of ten when it comes to upgrades the customer has to tell the rep what they want. Where as with new activation its all about the rep trying to sell the customer. T-Mobile changed the commission on upgrades to try and fix this issue, and its worked on me. I make much more money now but my coworkers complain, its funny lol.
Im on even more family plan w/ 3 lines. They said when I upgraded my phone that I was on the older data plan and that it was no longer offered and I was forced to upgrade it

Anyone in baltimore with a htc sensation

Hey i currently have an evo 3d with sprint but am seriously considering leaving sprint. Sprint just informed everyone of a minor change in there contracts which is allowing everyone to leave with no ETF. But thats not why i wanna leave. Sprints 4g service is horrible and ive been dropping calls left and right. If you live in baltimore how is your service? Do you get good 4g coverage not just outside but inside buildings also?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Sprint is a joke and a crappy provider. I was with them 8months. Never again. I had them before that for 2 years and thought they had changed their ways but to my surprise it still remains crap!
Only good thing about them is if you call sprint threatening to leave they offer you an upgrade lol. But the 4g is a joke and im fed up. So far is the ballistic sg the toughest case available for the sensation? Has anyone played with a sidekick bc if we leave sprint i think my girl is gonna get that one

I'm Baltimore. Maryland that is, not Ohio and my service is pretty good. I'm on wifi most of the time but I've never been outside with less than 3 bars of 4G. Inside of my house is a different story as I have around two bars most of the time. If I switch to edge instead of 4G I can get full bars. I'd say it is definitely pretty good in my area.
Thanks for the heads up, I got my Mom out of her contract without an ETF, now she's on an unlimited family plan with me. I got her a Sensation today.

She was under contract and they had a change in their terms of service, I called and said I was her (with her permission), told them I don't agree with the change and want to opt out. I also said I won't pay an ETF because of their change in policy, I was put on hold and when the rep came back she said that I was correct, no ETF, offered an unlimited plan for 2 lines $129 + taxes, I said no thank you. She then said I could go to my new carrier, give them my acct. # and have them do the cancellation and keep my number.
If they try to bill her an ETF I will call and say no, you changed your terms and I opted out, done deal.

[Q] 4g with straight talk

is it possible to buy the att sim card from straight talk for my 4g t-mobile galaxy. get on the $45 UNLIMITED EVERYTHING from straight talk and get the 4g speeds. only reason i want to do this is att has 4g coverage where i live. can only get 4g with t-mobile 30 miles away where i work. att has a lot more 4g coverage. ive seen on google where this is being done with straight talk. and its cheaper too. thanks
Yes, use this to unlock your phone for other carriers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419468
If you don't want the trouble of installing busybox, use this instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1978974
But however the flash method is currently known to work on ICS only. FB is working on a fix for GB.

my phone is already unlocked. my main question is can 4g be achieved through straight talk
I would say yes because my friends S2 (T-mobile) worked for Simple Mobile. Simple Mobile goes under TracFone Wireless Inc. which owns both Simple Mobile and Straight Talk.
Or as long as they support HSDPA your good to go!
So when your getting a plan from Straight Talk make sure to ask them if they support HSDPA.

This statement made me laugh. Asking them this will only create anger issues. The support people I have dealt with NEVER have a clue.
Its cool tho. People if you consider going to Straight Talk be prepared to have almost no tech support.
As posted above att will be iffy on this phone. If you are looking to get better data speeds I suggest steering away from Straight Talk there is a unknown daily data cap. And it sounds like you are looking to get faster data speeds to do something that will probably put you over the daily data cap. At that point Straight Talk will cancel your service and you have to call and ***** to get it turned back on. Hopefully they will publish something on what the daily limit is soon.

The only problem with trying to expand your 4g coverage by using a at&t sim thru straight talk is the T-Mobile 4g and At&t 4g work differently. Some of at&t 4g coverage is actually 4g lte which this phone does not support. Even their hspa+ network may be configured slightly different. Bhundven has an unlocked sgs4g and has tried his At&t sim and has reported that the 4g does not work well on it. Barely even gets 4g reception and dismal speeds at that.
