Hi - got a new HTC Sensation yesterday
I've got some really weird behaviour going on.
From time to time the phone won't react to the soft keyboard.. For example
I try and type in a query into google, and whilst the soft keyboard responds to key presses (vibration feedback, predicts words etc. in the dictionary) nothing appears in the search bar! All keys don't work, in all keyboard modes (querty, phonepad etc.). This seems to happen intermittantly but I can't figure out the reason why.
It happens in all programs that will accept text from the keyboard (mail, internet, market, SMS etc.). Phone always works.
I tried a different keyboard (touchpal) and I get the same intermittant behaviour. I tried various settings within the touch input settings and it still happens from time to time.
Any ideas / common fault? I tried search but no joy. Seems weird but it must be a software thing?
Hope someone can help!
i've seen this behavior before. happened when i was using swiftkey X all i did was reboot the phone and it fixed the issue. did you try that ?
When you say reboot is that something more involved than turning it off / turning it on again? I've done that.
I've tried installing (and uninstalling) a few different 3rd party keyboards but I keep getting the same behaviour.
It's very intermittent (sometimes it goes away after a few minutes, or by locking and unlcoking the phone a few times) and very annoying!
Thanks
chris
Quite often you actually have to tap input box first before typing. Give it a go.

Tried everything in terms of getting the input field to accept the text - its definitely 'faulty' behaviour.
If a factory reset doesn't work, then I guess the phone is faulty?
Doesn't look like hw problem to.me, more like sw if touches are still registered but nothing appears in the input screen. Try different ROM.
Oh, its new and probably not s-offed. Just return for a new unit.
Edit. I assumed you have already done factory reset. Ok, do a factory reset, I'm sure it'll fix the problem. If not, get replacement.

Need to know if anyone here with a Touch Pro device ever had the hardware keyboard just stop working. I cannot time when it will happen it varies. I can slide out the keyboard to respond to a message the backlight is on the all of a sudden after a little tyoing the light goes off and no key I press shows up. All of the screen keyboards work no issues. I have to do a soft reset to get it back. Today before it locked one of the keys I pressed was still in memory and I had rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr all over the screen. I had to take the pen and cancel the message but the keyboard was not working anymore.
I called Verizon they had me change my backlight setting thinking it was that but of course it did not. Now they are saying a device replacement...guess I should have gotten the insurance.
Is there any advice someone can offer me on this problem?
I've had this happen to me one or two times, and the times that I've had the problem I've fixed it but soft resetting. I've just brushed it off as one of the quirks, and I haven't worried about it since it hasn't happened in a while. If it continues to occur I guess I would see what you're carrier can do for you
Mine did that a mutliple of times. Same exact scenario. Since I upgraded to energyrom, hasnt done it once. If I had to take a guess, some glitch in the preloaded rom?
Hello,I bought a HTC Desire S around 4 months ago.
From past 2 days i have lot of problems with it.
1.Home screen button not working
2.Q,A keys are not working while typing(they work when i rotate the screen)
3.Wen i rotate the screen and start typing the whole keys on the least bottom dont work.
4.Sometimes if i press back key it goes to selection option...sometimes whole phone hangs.
5.Im not able to download from market...after i click download it shows downlading icon but it never starts download.
I made factory reset for couple of times but no use.
Any one have some suggestions?
numbers 1 to 4 seem like some sort of problem with your touchscreen... Have you tried wiping it with some clean cloth after breathing on it? My back button has some issues registering touches once in a while, but wiping it helps always
Regarding 5, I don't know really, but have you tried using the webmarket?

ya i tried wiping it but not working
Does the area where your Q and A keys are when in portrait work when the keyboard is not on? Can you use it to click items, scroll webpages etc?
One other thing you could try is the calibrate option for the keyboard. (somewhere in settings-> languages I think, it's been a while since I ran an Sense ROM).
If both yield no result, it sounds like a hardware issue to me, and you might be best of to invoke your warranty.
I've got a weird issue. I'm running the stock T-Mobile ROM with the only real modification being Swype as my keyboard. Sometimes it seems the phone will get very warm and stop responding. I can still open the home screen, go through apps, etc, but Internet/Data will fail to work. I can access the dialer, but it will refuse to dial. When I press a text box for the keyboard to come up to type, nothing registers within the box as I type. Using the home screen widget to turn on and off wireless and GPS, those buttons stop responding as well.
Has this happened to anyone? I'm close to performing a factory reset to hopefully rid this issue. Rebooting the phone seems to fix it, but it has happened about half a dozen times within the past 2 weeks now.

Best bet is to factory reset which, of course, will dump all your apps, settings, etc etc... An even better bet is to root and install a custom ROM; but that is your call.
Another option is to get a task manager / battery monitor and see if a specific app is causing your phone to act up. Look for things like most time on or most CPU usage or most battery consuming, depending on what app you use.
Agreed. Try a factory reset, or send it to HTC.

I'm having trouble typing on my LG phone. Whenever I hit a key, it registers the key press, but the letters don't appear on screen. I have to keep closing and restarting my apps to get it to type. I did a complete factory reset and it still does it. It runs Gingerbread 2.3.6 This is a replacement phone because my last one broke and it's been doing this ever since I got it no matter which keyboard I use and it does it in any app that requires typing. I also tried clearing the data and cache. Can anyone help me with this?

Have you tried TouchPal X with QWERTZ or other style of keyboard??
It happens with any keyboard that I have, stock or third party.
Must be a hardware portion problem

Today my keyboard decided to no longer use the I key in default view. This is odd because calibrating the keyboard allowed me to use the I key. After calibration finished, it went back to no longer working. I've cleaned my screen protector, and when pressing I, it "clicks" both the u and o key at the same time. This not only affects the keyboard, but in some other instances will not allow me to click a small icon, such as setting in the drop down menu. I've since done a factory reset and even flashed a new rom to no avail. The only possibility is there is a small half bubble at the top edge near the camera, and will have ghost armour replace it if I cannot find a cause as to why this happened. Any suggestions as what I could try?
What version of Android System Webview are you running?

It's a long shot, I don't know how often you update through GooglePlay, or if you even do... I do know that a version of webview made my phone do the same thing, it had dead spots on the screen but only when my keyboard was up in default SMS. I had the same the problems as you, buttons on the other side of the keyboard were being pressed & it was selecting drop down menus to save the text above, copy, etc... I found out the version of webview I had was bad, I know you did a factory reset, but maybe it restored the same the bad version?!?!? Try updating it if possible, or uninstalling updates for that app. It may just work....
Unfortunately it didn't work. In installed updates and tried freezing with tibu. To no avail. Called HTC and all they want to do is me sending phone in for repair. I don't like this option
What carrier do you have the phone through if any at all??

Yeah, sorry about that, i wouldn't be happy about that either. I was wondering if you had a phone carrier, if so which one. It seems as though you didn't buy it through them since you are in contact with HTC. I know HTC warranties your phone up to a year, but they should send a replacement in the meantime if you have to send it in Good Luck, sorry I couldn't be more help. If you have a phone carrier that you purchased it through such as Verizon, they would replace it right away as they have done for me about twice now:good:
