[Q] Can I lose root even if I don't update my ROM - HTC Sensation

I should phrase the question, "Can I lose root if I do not update with an HTC/TMO update?".
I walked through guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300) to root my Sensation and it worked with no issues. I had the root phone for several weeks and decided to try a couple new ROMs. I did my due diligence and did a full backup with Titanium and then a CM backup. The problem arose when I flashed in the Revolution HD ROM. Once installed, I could not get Titanium to work. It kept saying it could not get root permission. I checked SuperUser, and it was there, but would not prompt to allow root access for any of my apps. I restored back to my original ROM and again, I do not seem to have root. All my applications are there, SuperUser is set to prompt me when an app requests root, but none of the root apps will work anymore. I grabbed a root checking app off the market, and it says it cannot obtain root too. I checked fastboot and it still shows S-OFF. I've never had this issue with any of my other Android devices once I rooted them. I was able to get my root access back by following step 3 of the guide, but I'm curious how I lost root by flashing in another custom ROM. Any ideas?

You didn't lose root you lost root access. It happened with two of my nandroids from CWM. I just erased them and started over from a fresh rom install and everything was fine. It kinda suxs though lol when SU tells you it can't get access. There are a few if us that this happened too. Its been mentioned in yje Clockwork thread.

[Q] TB, restoring root and su

Apologies if this question has already been answered, but I have searched here and on Google, but the results that come back are for people who cannot root at all. I have been fully rooted, appear to still be rooted (according to TB), but have come across an issue with TB that has made me want to learn more about the nuts and bolts of the rooting process.
I am usually a Revolver user but I am temporarily visiting rooted stock, currently WW 9.2.1.21. I had installed the full 9.2.1.11 ROM via CWM yesterday and upgraded from there via the CWM flashable updates, using OTA Rootkeeper to restore root.
TB has been working well for me with ICS until yesterday when it refused to restore or freeze my apps, although it can restore data. I have followed this guide on the TB wiki, number 27, http://www.titaniumtrack.com/kb/tit...l#tb-hangs-while-freezing-apps-restoring-apps but I am getting an error saying that /system/xbin/su is not found. Sure enough, a quick browse shows that su is not there. I do have /system/bin/su. Could this be why TB isn't working anymore? Has OTA Rootkeeper only partially completed its job? Does it have nothing to do with anything?
Just copy the su from system/bin to system/xbin.
OTA rootkeeper will only succeed in full root restore if you let it OTA update.
Thanks, your help is much appreciated. TB is now working as expected.
On my rooted TF101 with stock ics and stock recovery, I don't have similar problem with TB, althoug su is only in /system/bin.
As rootkeeper is concerned, the app protects su by creating a /system/su-backup and copy it back to /system/bin/su during restore, nothing else.
mine did same thing and it wont let me paste anything in xbin it says permission denied even though all apps have superuser permission except one..
nvm got thru terminal all it took was a two minute search and i had it :banghead:
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA
If you have working CWM... flash this HERE. Reboot and it should all working again..
If you don't have CWM.. you better install one before attempting to flash this superuser.zip
After you thank me... you must also thank Wolf too(the man who do this magic..

lost root somehow

i tried searching the forums and google and couldnt find much of anything. i rooted using he debugfsroot tool and unlocked with adams tool. ive been running fne for a week or so i still have superuser installed and it gives permissions to titanium backup but hwen i tried to run the battery calibration app it said im not rooted. i downloaded root check basic and it says im not rooted either... i confused as ive not received any updates to my knowledge.. i delted the process that supposedly checks for updates... any ideas? i did try to reroot with the debugfsroot tool again and it all went through teh same steps and said successful etc. but i have the same problem.
did you update super user to the latest?
Yes i updated superuser and binary
any other ieas? is rooting through odin any worse of a way to root besides the fact that it will wipe my phone? it just seems wierd that would have happened.
Got it resolved. Superuser was set to auto allow.. for some reaskn it denied a few apps. Set it to prompt i allow and it works

[Q] Can i flash new rom after root loss

So,.... messing about as we do, trying to get an app to work that wont work on rooted device, I installed voodoo to temporarily hide my root and it seemed to work.
but now I cant regain root access. 1: Not sure if voodoo is the issue
2: tried all fixes that I could find on here and nothing working for me
Not really an issue at the mo and I'm sure theres a work around but as a quick fix / quick question
Can I just Flash a new custom rom while I no longer have root access?
I was going to try a different rom anyway. and don't mind losing data, apps etc
just need to know that I can flash without root and not going to get stuck somewhere
Cheers
You'll have to root again then flash.

You can flash everything if you have a Custom recovery Installed eg : CWM or TWRP, Because both has Root enabled by default, even if the Rom doesn't have Root that doesn't mean your recovery doesn't have root, If the rom only doesn't has Root, you Recvoery has.
That means you still can flash everything. (I recommend to use the lastest version if you have a old version)
no custom rom installed
i had rooted my phone but for clearing up internal memory i did a factory reset.
After that i noticed my wifi stopped working and i had sort if partial root(root explorer worked but titanium backup didnt).
In order to correct that i tried to manually update the su binary by replacing the original with the latest one.once i did that i lost root completely.
T_T now i am stuck up with a non root phone without wifi working.
I tried flashing it but that also requires root.
Any help will be appriciated
my phone is spicemi280(stock)

Q] Root "disabled" itself!? (Rooted phone that is no longer allowing root access)
Anyone here with a modded Galaxy S3 phone (or any) - that is rooted - have it just seemingly act as if it is no longer rooted? or unjustly denying root access for no apparent reason....
Have been rooted since purchase and have never seen or had any issue with this..have flashed custom recovery and rom's hundreds of times...no problems...currently using Task's latest KK 4.4.4 rom and had no issues from beginning...
It comes with SuperUser...i do usually install SuperSU instead but hadn't tried yet...it was fine and apps that needed root appeared ok..even SuperUser has three or four listed apps in the "allow" section...but all of a sudden I can't seem to give root access to anything else now..
First noticed the other day when trying to sideload an apk..couldn't...tried to do it manually by just copying it to system/apps folder and that's when the first message came up saying "it appears your device may not be rooted"...quite odd I thought.. i then tried to install SuperSU and it when SuperUser popped up to give it allowable root access it would only timeout and say denied...i then tried a bunch of other apps that require root and they would all just get denied by SuperUser...
Anyone seen this before or know what causes this and/or how to fix?
THanks for any help or suggestions
ps.. i'm no noob and have been doing this a long time and have rooted/modded dozens of phones, hundreds of times...but this issue is a new one for me.. IF i have to completely wipe and even go back to stock image and then start over to re-root and re-mod... I will and can do so easily..but that would be last resort if necessary...thanks!

i have no explanation for what happened, actually never heard it happen before.
why not try to re-root and see what happens. if that doesn't work, i would think your only option would be to flash it clean and start over.
Reroot. Or unroot then reroot.
yeah i was thinking that might have to be done.. was hoping not and that this was some sort of known or fixable issue...but may have no choice..will wait another couple days to see if i find anything and do it if no other option..

well, i haven't seen any root methods that require wiping the phone, so why wait to try re-rooting?
I would try a new busybox with kinguser and reroot.

Lost root permission

I have stock rom on my phone but had it rooted under 4.2.2.
Now i upgraded to 4.4.2 and something went wrong. The phone is still rooted and su is there but the root permission is gone.
I wonder now how i can get it back without reinstalling everything again.
So far, all programs i previously froze are still frozen which is great. But i can not use Titanium Backup at the moment since the permission is gone.
What would be the best route to go to fix this problem.
btw. i can not rooted it again since for example stump will tell me that its already rooted.
