XT720 on Wikipedia - Milestone XT720 General

Looks like some of us made Wikipedia .
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_Milestone_XT720#References

Haha is that a pix of and XT by an XT? Would that be MadXT Disease.

That Wikipedia page actually has quite a lot of problems.
Let me post some things found on the page:
Unfortunately the CBW or "Cincinnati Bell" update was nothing but a plagiary of D3xters First 2.2 update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11082732&postcount=1 was posted on XDA Developers website 6 months previously to the "BS Official" update CBW put out.
Due to the fact that CBW was boasting their "Official" XT720 update, actual developers stop developing on D3xters release in anticipation of a "fixed XT720". The wait was mostly due to incorrigible system hack's that disabled vital functions in the ROM's system.

Plagiarism? Really? Android is Open-Source for a reason.
And something I find really funny in that post:
Fortunately, the developers stroked back lol and took back the XT720.

The inclusion of the word 'LOL' in a Wikipedia page is just...lol.
I really hope I don't offend anyone by posting this, but I find it quite humourous so I decided to post this.

FRF44 is Android 2.2 release?

I don't know if this is useful at all, but I was visiting the top 10 linpack results and noticed what appears to be an FRF44 2.2 with release keys in the results.
http://www.greenecomputing.com/apps/linpack/linpack-top-10/
-James
Seems to me it is. I have read an article that said that jit and froyo would be twice as fast as eclaire
Wow. Just look at all those FROYO MFLOPP scores! =P
Omg, this week gonna be so fun.
A) Why is this in development?
B) This is news from several days ago.
I googled FRF44. I couldn't find it anywhere except for on the linpack website. That's news.
Secondly, it gives rom developer something to look for.
Sounds reasonable?
We could petition a mod to move this of course if it's not up to everyones posting standards. I hope that that this can be settled in a way that benefits everyone

dont be so hard a simple "hey this might be better off in Q&A mod please move" and yes we know this is old news. i heard about this oh last week i believe
Uncalled for...
Yea, he could say that... But it seems people here and everwhere online like to just be asshats about things rather than being polite... Clearly these people parents failed at raising polite individuals...
just follow androidfroyo on twitter and you'll get spammed whenever news comes out. theres like 2000000 websites already covering the linpack results
As it's FRF44 I would say that it's a Froyo build.
We only have another 24 hours before we find out... will be interesting how quickly the rom 'cooks' get to work on it
Wont be till Thurs that any info appears, thats when the "Android: TBA" sessions are.

Keynotes are tomorrow. Froyo will likely be announced and displayed then. The android TBA will be workshops based on what is announced.

We might have an update ''soon''...(but a 2.1 one)

This was posted in Motorola support forums:
''There will not be an upgrade to FroYo 2.2 for the XT720/XT701. We are evaluating having a software update to fix some of the bugs some users have reported.
Mark
Motorola Mobility US Facebook Support''
So maybe we will get an update
What bugs need to be fixed?
There is a thread around with a list of bugs, I couldn't tell you from off the top of my head, but that confirms we aren't getting froyo EVER? I hope that applies only to the upgrade log of Q4 2010 and Q1 2011.. Dex is cooking something up for us Froyo wise so we shouldn't worry to much, but if he finishes his project before this "update" hopefully he'll optimize his build to support it.
Sent from my Milestone XT720 using XDA App
that just means they will only release a FIX for 2.1 to 2.1 fixed
that is by no means a release for 2.2

I think you added the word "soon" there. All they've really said is that they're thinking about maybe deciding to do something sometime in the future.
Edit: Also be aware that Motorola distinguishes between "updates" and "upgrades". 2.1-update1 to 2.1-update2 is an "update". 2.1-update1 to 2.2 is an "upgrade". Mark's been pretty clear that the Motorola software group has decided there will never be any "upgrade" whatsoever for the XT720 (except the Motoroi).
Also...thnigs to think about...Motorola released the xt720 onto the market with flaws and have not done anything to correct them. And are only at the moment collating the bugs from the owners of the handsets...then will present that to whomever in Motorola to see if and what they MAY address..forget about it.
Then get their new graduate programmers to work on it.

While there will not be an upgrade for this phone, we are exploring giving it an update to resolve some of the bugs users have reported., It is at the bottom of page 11.
I see many people correcting me. I said UPDATE, not UPGRADE. I didn't mean froyo. Maybe we are getting update2 or 2.1.5 (like the CLIQ).

It's one of the canned responses they're using now. It's all over the facebook/getsatisfaction threads. For example:
http://getsatisfaction.com/motorola/topics/to_motos_administrators_and_managers
I read another one there (that I can't find at the moment) where it's clarified that "will remain 2.1" or whatever they put on the software upgrade page is a final decision and that 2.3, 3.0 etc and later are also out of the question, too.
If you want to get your (dis)satisfaction faster, Motorola seems much more responsive there than on their own forums.

Let's hope because it's about time. Only thing is that ATT charges for their tethering let's hope this is not neutered in the final release. If it is cooks will now have an American base to work off of. Although the Cog 3.02 works great for accept for MMS.

I don't understand why you keep emphasizing spelling. Did I spell something wrong? Also, the 2.2 update is not here for AT&T Captivates. I guess this isn't really relevant to you as you're on Rogers.
So this is going to be I897UCKB1, according to the info sections near the bottom? I don't think I've seen a firmware beginning with K before. Iiiiinteresting. Let's see what XDA does with this if it truly is what we've been waiting for.

As far as the update it would seem just like it was in WM. The roms are 2 builds ahead by the time ATT releases the update lol.

[Q] Hashcode: State of the Union (Want ICS?)

Dear Fellow Atrix 2 Friends,
This really belongs in the Dev thread, but I can't post there yet. I wanted to share this fascinating article with you all, and wondering if Jim and LFaber are in contact with him regularly (I know CM9 is still alpha)??
I almost wish we (everyone here at XDA with an A2), had gotten him an Atrix 2, before that person from the Bionic crew did (read the article, you'll understand)?
As always, tons of thanks to Jim, LFaber, and even to those brave souls who occasional get really excited about diving in (I mean, even if it turns out a far deeper rabbit hole than you were prepared for at first --- still, I tip my hat to these brave souls!).
To those who will read the linked brief article (half a page, really), do you have any ideas, any feedback?
Good Karma,
~p

That would be awesome!
You might want to rethink donating an Atrix 2 to him; you might unintentionally ruin his marriage!
Yep, I read it, and both lfaber06 and I communicate with him often. I will PM lfaber06 and see if we can get hascode to give us some info, but I will tell you that the radio on our phone is sooooo, different from all the phones that he/they work on since they are all for verizon, some with international versions mind you, but it is still an issue for us, because we are an island in the motorola smartphone world. There really is not a phone that is "exactly" as ours, now the international version of the d3 is as close as it gets, but we still have the radio issues. And I have already contacted hashcode about that a while ago, we still need to find a phone that has a close enough radio that is running ICS, like one of the sony phones, but they are not running ics yet, so it is playing the waiting game for the moment.

I was curious and skimmed through some of HashCode's posts on XDA, and there was one particular post where he indicated that "everyone" (referring to those with a particular phone) needed to be regularly/daily checking the 'servers' for a leaked ROM or something like that. I have a MOTO Dev account, but I am unaware of any list of FTP servers(?).

Is there an "plain English" change log for the CM "M Snapshot" builds?

Is there an "plain English" change log for the CM "M Snapshot" builds?
I know where to find the technical list of changes is for the Cyanogenmod nightlies but is there a more plain English list of highlighted changes for each M build? I am referring to something like we see in Play store apps. For example, I know that this new M build incorporates the built in SuperUser function but I'm not sure what other significant updates were made.
Just curious.
Thanks!
I'm going to just say no since that's not what CM does. Best bet would be to read an android blog article about the latest CM monthly release details.

What he said.
What is posted is plain english. If you cant understand it then maybe you should sit back and spend a few days doing some research.
I had checked the blogs and only found info about the superuser integration and pie controls. I read them regularly. I get what you're saying about CM people not making their own change logs. At least I know that much now. That confirms that I shouldn't be searching their site. Thanks.
As for being told to do more research... I know you are a moderator but I was a little thrown by that comment.
The site I am already aware of and have sought information from is: http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/
Is this the site you refer to as being in plain english? It contains items such as:
"eat: Eat using adb sideload"
and
"Revert: "Allow using DroidDoc build."
That isn't plain English to me.
I also try to check through through the Google+ CM page for "plain English" updates on what is happening but the problem there is that they are posting info on so many devices, it's hard to filter out what's going on. That's also where I found out about pie controls.
I looked on Google in general for version info, change log, etc. No luck. So, I came here in my research attempts to see if anyone might already know of a site/someone that is knowledgeable in this area and takes info like that (above) and summarizes the main changes on one page. In my experience, I have found that there are people that all sorts of great things as a service to the android community. That's all I was asking. I didn't realize I would be told that I should go research somewhere else.
Maybe you didn't mean it this way but it comes off as telling me to go away and not waste space on this forum if I'm not smart enough to understand that kind of change log info.
Normally, I let these things slide but I wanted to tell you how it came off to me. I still love this forum. I've learned SO MUCH here. I would never have been able to root my phones and tablets without it. As a moderator, I'm sure you are part of the reason it's such a great place. It was just this once instance that seemed a little off.
Thanks.

Ill be honest with you. While it was not meant to come off rude or anything but those are terms your gonna have to learn to read. Android is not a simple thing in the least nor is flashing custom roms. This is a developers site so you will see terms like this used all the time. The best thing I can say is to spend some time learning the lingo and finding out what things mean.

Usually the stuff you care about as a user will be understandable (features, etc) if you read the nightlies change logs. The weird tweak stuff I don't understand, but you can click on the change and read comments and sometimes it makes more sense to me. But do you really need to know the reason behind each of the hundreds of changes that happen between each M?
