I have a sidekick 4G and my gf decided to do a factory wipe, something i have done before on other android devices, but when it restarted it went through the normal process but before it loads the OS the screen goes black. The back light is still on but nothing on the screen. So i was reading the forms and saw the odin program and i was able to get the phone into download mode and odin recognized it but after odin was finished the phone restarts and now nothing comes up. Just a black screen with the back light on. Can anyone help...i have scoured the forms and you-tube for an answer but i have come across nothing.

It was from a you-tube video and it was just the odin exe thats it
Look in the sk4g development forum and it should be the topic "[rom] [odin] stock odexed t839uvkg2, I'm pretty sure there is a guide there to if it helps thank the op

I'm also quite sure I bricked my sidekick! I can get to the download mode using the usb cable and the 3-button combo but the phone always resets itself to a black backlight screen in about 50 seconds so I can never get the stock ROM loaded using ODIN. Is there a small quick-loading ROM available that I can use to get my phone back to life? Thanks in advance for the advice
It wont boot into download mode at all... when i plug it in the back light just lights up and that's it and when i press the power button when its not plugged in the back light comes on but then turns off when i let go of the power

If there is no sk logo at all, then yes you bricked it.
Thats how i got into download mode the first time but now it just wont work either way
Did u try removing the battery plugging it in and then holding volume down and the trackpad and then inserting the battery while still holding the buttons
Edit: my bad

I know this is in the SGS4G forum, but you could try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220181
You can find the correct boot.bin and sbl.bin, you can extract the odin image for either KD1 or KG2, they should be the same.
yea it just stays lit up and does not change
Then that's a typical hard brick, I'd try the thread I posted above your post, as at this point, you have nothing left to lose.
how do i extract boot.bin and sbl.bin from the KD1? when i open it up i dont see those files
It just flashes the back light and does nothing with everything that i try and when i hold the buttons down to enter download mode it just flashes the back light every few seconds
Then you must be opening the wrong thing, or are using something weird to open it?
What is the name of the tar file you opened, and what program did you use to open it?
i opened it with win-rar what am i pose to use?
winrar should be able to open it just fine. where did you download the tar file from, and that's the exact file name? what do you find when you open it?

It happens to me all the time. Just plug phone to computer holding volume up and down at same time. It shows the phone-cable-pc thingy and that's download mode. I went into that when I failed to Odin by mistake and just decided to try to Odin while in that "mode" and it did flashed. Hope this helped.
*Have Odin open before you plug cuz' that way you know it found the device.
*I think this method shown on Rootzwiki I discovered first but never posted. It happened while flashing 1st Audiophile. LOL... anyway, w/e. Good luck!

Try this even if the screen stays black/off, as long as Odin recognizes it (You'll get the yellow box with COM# in it) these steps will help.
Ok so i have a samsung galaxy s 4g and i tried to update my firmware from 2.2 froyo to 2.3.4 and i messed up along the way somehow and my phone got bricked. i tried odin many times and i cant get into recovery mode, ive tried the 3 button combo but i can get into download mode. when i power up my phone the screen goes white then says "vibrant SAMSUNG" then goes back to white then back to the vibrant screen. It wont boot up. I have tried the jig also, maybe i need different .pit files and .rar files? i dont know please help!
Exactly what rom did you flash?

Try Odin 1.85 then take the battery out of your phone plug USB cable into your computer hold the volume keys up and down simultaneously plug cable into your phone meanwhile your still holding down your volume keys then put your battery back in. Be sure to have Odin files already placed where they belong and make sure you get them from a post that has alot of positive feedback, preferably one that has a good step by step how to instructions, you'll find all you need to know in the sgs4g Bible everything you need to know is in those Bible posts good luck to you it sux not having your phone believe me I've soft bricked and boot looped my phone several times even after successfully flashing firmwares several times correctly don't ever get to comfortable flashing one little mistake is detrimental to the life of your phone good luck bro.once you place your phone back into proper working condition make sure to flash Dr.honks kj1 kernal with voodoo lag fix cwm recovery and root permissions pre installed that really helps prevent the use of having to use Odin or heimdall to revive your phone again.then flash away but carefully and aware always of what files you put into your phone.

Moving to Q&A
I have been running on the gb 2.3.3 rom (rooted) that I have flashed using odin back in summer and now decided to do some more upgrading . So I found a new rom that was very intriguing to me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305145 After doing some research I realized I needed to do a different type of flashing (cwm?), and not through odin. So I downloaded root explorer into my phone and followed the procedures in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122508 but every time I try to put my phone in the recovery mode (holding volume up + down + power) it wouldn't go into the blue screen. Instead, it would just restart, and restart, etc.. Any suggestions? Do I need to do something with the kernels?
p.s.hahah after messing around and looking through forums all day, I got a little impatient and flashed gb 2.3.6 using odin in the mean time

Try this.
Basically do what youre doing but instead of keeping on holding to it, hold on to Volup+voldown+power for 2 reboots, then on the 3rd reboot, the gs4g screen in the beginning lights up a slight lighter than usual. Let go of the power button, See if this works.

Download the Odin KJ1 version.
Just making a quick check. You ARE using a galaxy s 4g right? if so, then from that link, download the kg4.tar from the odin section. Then flash via odin. .

Hi I have the same problem but I still cant get into recovery, I go straight into Download mode. Please Help
It might be because your phone is connected to the computer? If so, try disconnecting it
No its not that, I can access it without it being connected to a computer.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183413
This thread says the original GB rom changed the key mapping. Any ideas on where I can find a fix. I think thats what happened to me.
hmm I'm still relativley new to this kind of stuff as well, so the only route I know that you can do that will most likley fix the problem is to odin to a newer rom, perhaps the one I have linked above, then odin the kernal as well to get it rooted and follow the guide on how to do it if you're confused. Then turn off your phone, hold (volume up + volume down + power), screen should boot up then dissapear, boot up again, then disappear, and on the third boot up, just release the power button but continue holding on to the volume up + volume down buttons and just wait. The cwm screen should come up from what I experienced on two different sgs4g's. Hope that helps somewhat lol. I'm sure there might be a easier way to just fix the key mapping but I'm not to sure on how to do it. gl
I just verified that method works for me as well. I'm lazy, though, and downloaded Quick Boot from the app store as it lets you boot into recovery or download mode. Less fuss.
Hey community.
Long time lurker, first time poster.
Anyhow, my brother bricked his infuse last night. Apparently he tried to flash an incompatible cwm fw (Nexus S) and rebooted it, and now its stuck at the samsung logo. Secondly, i tried to push it into download mode and it continues to loop. I tried to connect it to Odin and it does not recongize the phone, however it freezes at a picture of a wheel (similar to windows hourglass) and doesnt move from there.
i'm assuming its perm bricked at this point, unless you have suggestions.
Others have mentioned "jig" and "unbrickable mod" although I could not find any details further than the terms.
Any help would be appreciated.
Just checking, have you tried this?:
Remove the battery, and disconnect USB.
Hold, and continue to hold both volume keys.
Continue to hold vol. keys, connect USB.
Insert battery and continue to hold vol. keys for awhile.
That should put you in download mode.

Lol next time try heimdale. It for me anyways works first try all the time. I only use Odin when i have to, other then that i always use heimdale. Make sure when you use heimdale plug your phone into another port. Ive figured out that a usb port only recognizes the phone a certain way, as heimdale uses different drivers that you install. On my laptop i have two ports that i do not usually use (one is dedicated to a bluetooth dongle/mouse) so one is set up for odin, the other for heimdale.
Yeah heimdall is the way to go...don't even need drivers...it uses its own special drivers that it will download for you if you don't already have them
Heimdall never fails me...but Odin...well Odin is kinda iffy

This is how i used the hemidall one click to stock here is what I do, below are how i perform using qkster's method...
The USB + Volume Down + Volume Up Method: Download mode (Noticeable by an Android robot digging with a shovel) is reached by taking everything out (Battery, SIM, MicroSD). plug in the USB cable to your computer and phone then putting in battery at the same time Holding the volume buttons both up and down, (Don't press the power button at all in this method).
How to INSTALL:
1. Put your phone into Download Mode.
2. If you have not used Heimdall, you will need to set up the driver for device recognition.
3. Once your device is connected, the DEVICE STATUS should show: CONNECTED. The long FLASH bar will also turn on for flashing.
4. Click on the FLASH button. (In my opinion: I recommend that you do this in a safe environment. Do not disturb your phone will flashing this firmware. Turn off Antivirus. Do not run any other programs, upload/download/youtube/burning DVD etc)
5. Once it has completed, your phone will reboot. You will hopefully see the ATT logo and reboot into STOCK UCLB3.
6. If it did not work, you will have to put it back into DOWNLOAD mode and reflash a second time, with the FLASH BOOTLOADER box checked. This is more likely if you never had proper Gingerbread bootloaders on your phone, if you are coming from FROYO or if you never had Odin a Gingerbread leak to get your bootloaders.
download this file for your one click to stock...and using above directions...
once that is done and you want to put CWM mod on for flashing a custom ROM, same directions to get in to download mod...
download this file to use the one click to put CWM mod on your phone

samsung i997 bootloop no bootloader solution
Dear guys i'm not saying this will be everybody's case but in my shop we got two of this phones with the issue mentioned above, in the two cases the issue was caused by faulty power button, so before you format or flash your samsung i997 i'll advice to go to youtube search for a diassemble video for your phone take out the main board and with your tester verify that your power button is working properly. If not try to replace the power button. i have soved the two cases that way.
My brother was using his Sidekick over a month ago and it randomly started being unresponsive, I then tried resetting it and it worked out. Within 30 mintues of it being reset it turned off and was stuck on boot loop, long story short from then to now I have tried literally everything (ODIN, KG2, KD1, Heimdall) and still haven't gotten it to turn on. Everytime I do any of these procedures I get a failure because the sidekick reboots while on download mode, I've been wasting so much time on this phone I just want an answer. The phone is in good physical condition and has never been dropped (On hard surfaces anyway) but I want to know if its fixable or beyond repair, thank you :silly:
same thing happen to me with my first sidekick nothing did fixed it
Well what I did was hold the sidekick buttons in down load mode. The whole time heimdall was open and attempt. To flash the bootloaders it works for me

Like xtreme88 said, you need to flash the bootloaders the easiest way to do this is through Heimdall.

Hold the buttons that put the sidekick into download mode the whole time heimdall is running?? I will try that now and see what happens, Thanks!
please guys, I'm sorta new at this and I can't spend that much of my time on it due to school and work, I want the most simplest answers and easiest way to fix this. If you could put active links up on this thread and step by step procedures on how I can fix it with the programs that would be excellent. Also I don't understand, I do use the bootloaders but am I really supposed to hold the download mode buttons the whole time? Thanks guys, and again please keep it simple for me
Everything goes smoothly until I reach FACTORYFS, it reboots itself when I'm at 53% everytime. How do I stop the sidekick from rebooting when I'm using heimdall or ODIN?
One last thing, as of late the Sidekick can only go into download mode and no longer does the boot loop everytime I try to power it on. when I try to power it on nothing happens, when I put in the usb it goes into download mode automatically and keeps rebooting in download mode. .
Try clicking the box that says Flash bootloader
