I read that the UK got an official Froyo release today, but haven't seen anything on this end of the pond.
Engadget said that the epic galaxy s might get it by the 26th but idk what that means for us Captivate users.

Another circle jerk?
well almost 2 1/2 hours later i got the error message facepalm, but why the super long delay... maybe the update is coming soon idk...
MODS feel free to close, this is USELESS
SORRY!!!
I talked to an at&t rep the other day and confirmed our update to froyo will not be until after 1 January. But this was also just a rep not an insider or anything special.

If you want updates, buy a Nexus S. The Captivate won't be getting froyo until long after it's relevant.

+1 Thats what I did and already got a first update after 3 days. Cant believe it has taken AT&T this long to release an update.
You believe in Santa Claus too? Merry Christmas!!

I wouldn't count on it! Samsung and att completely dropped the ball on froyo. We might have a stable gingerbread rom before we see an official froyo. At this point if your even a casual xda member, there is no reason why you shouldn't be running one of the froyo roms in the dev forum. There are a handful of roms that will give you froyo with really very minor bugs if any!

All captivate froyo roms have issues because we have no captivate froyo source code. The roms are based on the old froyo cap beta releases or vibrant or i9000 froyo code. Until we see an official captivate release the cooked roms will have issues. I have not found a good one yet.
The i9000 roms carryover functions are phone doesn't have and the beta froyo based captivate roms suck battery and tend to have BT and modem issues.
I am still waiting for official froyo so we can get some solid cooked roms.

merry xmas everyone,
so theres not even a stable release of froyo for rooted phones?
also, do you think at&t might bosh froyo and give us gingerbread?
I heard that Gingerbread will be released for the Mesmerize within 3 weeks. Has it been leaked anywhere? Had anyone else heard this?
LOL. My guess is that's pure rumor. They only JUST released Froyo and there's NO WAY that they would release Gingerbread for the Mez right on the heels of another update... if at all.
Wow. Just wow.

I thought the same thing, but I heard it from someone who should know. I really don't think so either, however, I believe my source is telling me the truth. They say Samsung is working to get it to US Cellular and released within 3 weeks.

Although I agree with you, dying think it'll take THAT long the Google gingerbread Nexus S is samsung galaxy s hardware. And this kernel will support gingerbread, su least from what I've read.

I'll let you know as soon as it hits. I'm getting the firmware the same time the lab does, or at least I have been up to now.

yeah, notice how many froyo betas we got before getting an official release? I doubt they would go to gingerbread so quickly.

I really doubt you would get gingerbread before the i9000, vibrant, and others who have had 2.2 for a while.

Is this suppose to be funny? GB that was MADE for your cappy vs a beta/rc version of GB that is ported and still has quite a few bugs?
As with everyone else, i'll get in line for the popcorn. Can I get a diet coke too?
Never gonna happen. at&t didn't give a single **** about releasing froyo on the captivate with any kind of speedy schedule and that was when it was new, do you really think that they will be johnny on the ball to release an update for a phone that's according to them, is at the end if its life? No, they will just push new phones on us cause that's where they stand to make the most money. And who cares if they do anyway? How many froyo roms do we know and love that started out as "ports that still had quite a few bugs"
stock sucks. End of rant.
Yea, but you'll probably be eating that popcorn indefinitely as I don't see gb coming this way officially. not before everyone jumps ship to sgs 2

That would rock if it happens, not gonna hold my breath though. So far every GB Rom has had the weird charge issue for me. I'd hope a build made specifically for the cappy would not have that problem.

You guys can rely on us Canadians. Rogers beat AT&T by a few months, and we all know how Rogers operates here.
And I thought we already have Gingerbread, like JVH. These are just beta and leaks?

Really? You're waiting for samsungjohn? He's the Rick Romero / Captain Obvious / Super(late)Man of the Samsung world. Last time he posted about a Samsung release, it was nearly a week after source had been dropped and there were several custom ROMs based on the software. Nothing personal about the guy, but sometimes it's better never then late.

i believe geo was asking if the i9000 was beta or not.. as the article says that gingerbread is coming to the galaxy s line... i9000 is the galaxy and we HAVE it.. right? no? well kinda!
the JVH/B that we already have for i9000 are the samsung firmwares from the firmware site open source versions.
NOW it is going to hit the carriers and KEIS.... bloat and other crap! yay~
Does this mean the source would also be made available?
Not gettin my hopes up...
When has official anything for our specific device ever been that great? Everybody was so excited about official at&t froyo update, it finally came, and never did blow anything we already had out of the water. As far as I'm concerned the devs will probably have something better worked up by the time official 2.3 drops.
My 2 cents.
Does anyone know when we will see ICS. This phone will crush ICS as long they leave or slim down touchwiz.

I don't think there has been any official announcement by Tmobile or Samsung that we will get ICS. All the reviews of this phone around the internet just assume it will, eventually...
They may get around to it in a few months after every version of the SGS2 is updated...

if I remember correctly, someone spotted a post on TMobile help center or something that blaze will be getting it soon
Samsung and T-Mobile plan to release a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G that updates the device software to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The dates for this future update are TBD, but this document will be updated when details become available

Thanks, but Tmobile's promises are worth less than the 2 seconds it took me to scan that page. Actually, I'd like those seconds back. Learned this the hard way with the Vibrant, which would still be running Eclair if it were up to Tmobile. As it was, it took a full-on smear campaign to get Samsung to release a piss-poor update to Froyo that you had to know about to get, no OTA. So don't hold your breath on this one. I won't believe it until i see it.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
i had a vibrant also so i know exactly how you feel.
but the guy said there was nothing "official" so i assumed he wanted to hear something from tmobile, so i put up the link.
not sure what else i could have done better here.
Seems Samsung has gotten better with updates since then...I'd least I would hope so. Otherwise, I wouldn't even be looking at this phone.
Trev, I wasn't ranting at you, sorry if that was the impression. I am just a little pissed that T-Mo and Samsung always seem to make update promises, but never deliver. I really like the Blaze 4g, except for all the bloat, but I won't pick one up until it receives official ICS, or is supported by AOKP. I'm tired of hacked ROMs, and now that I have AOKP ICS for my Vibrant, I can never go back to gingerbread or lower.

I just got off the phone with LG and they said they pulled the Gingerbread update last month because of MANY MANY bugs. He also said that he would expect the Ice Cream Sandwich update to be appearing by the end of the month. At least thats what he said. I asked him about the WIND Updates so i don't know about any other carrier.
Good news or what?
That would be a glorious day lol

I'm sorry, but I am not going to buy this from an LG tech. I hope that I am wrong, but i have strong doubts that there will be official ICS for G2X, especially by the end of the month. My guess is that it will come ot hte O2x sometime in September and then we will get it through the dedicated work of people like Ricardo and the G2x devs.
Just have to wait and see. Regarding the new 2.3.4 being buggy - maybe a lot of updating issues but the ROM itself is very stable.
Is it possible to still find the Stock ROM for Gingerbread? Like not the one from t-mobile but the one from lg its self.
I just hope that Wind will give us ICS by the end of 2012. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Wind and tmo roms are same given frequency.. only diff is carrier string and apn settings.. so either release of ics will work on g2x.
Sent via G2X-SINGH-UI
Yea but with the T-Mobile rom it has stuff installed that won't work with wind. Like the wifi calling.
