LG Update? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I just got off the phone with LG and they said they pulled the Gingerbread update last month because of MANY MANY bugs. He also said that he would expect the Ice Cream Sandwich update to be appearing by the end of the month. At least thats what he said. I asked him about the WIND Updates so i don't know about any other carrier.
Good news or what?

That would be a glorious day lol

Ohhh man, that would be awesome!! hope it's true

Yep, I can't wait till the official release. he also said that once ICS is released, gingerbread will also be available again.

"So say we all!"

I'm sorry, but I am not going to buy this from an LG tech. I hope that I am wrong, but i have strong doubts that there will be official ICS for G2X, especially by the end of the month. My guess is that it will come ot hte O2x sometime in September and then we will get it through the dedicated work of people like Ricardo and the G2x devs.

Just have to wait and see. Regarding the new 2.3.4 being buggy - maybe a lot of updating issues but the ROM itself is very stable.

Is it possible to still find the Stock ROM for Gingerbread? Like not the one from t-mobile but the one from lg its self.

I just hope that Wind will give us ICS by the end of 2012. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Wind and tmo roms are same given frequency.. only diff is carrier string and apn settings.. so either release of ics will work on g2x.
Sent via G2X-SINGH-UI

Yea but with the T-Mobile rom it has stuff installed that won't work with wind. Like the wifi calling.

I wouldn't count on it! Samsung and att completely dropped the ball on froyo. We might have a stable gingerbread rom before we see an official froyo. At this point if your even a casual xda member, there is no reason why you shouldn't be running one of the froyo roms in the dev forum. There are a handful of roms that will give you froyo with really very minor bugs if any!

All captivate froyo roms have issues because we have no captivate froyo source code. The roms are based on the old froyo cap beta releases or vibrant or i9000 froyo code. Until we see an official captivate release the cooked roms will have issues. I have not found a good one yet.
The i9000 roms carryover functions are phone doesn't have and the beta froyo based captivate roms suck battery and tend to have BT and modem issues.
I am still waiting for official froyo so we can get some solid cooked roms.

The leaked version is H O R R I B L E.
I encountered a lot of crashes and reboots during 2 days of test (I even never encounter ONE SINGLE reboot with V10f) and I have to go back to original V10f. Moreover, the kernel IS NOT CHANGED, so NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER expect the leaked version fix any problem.
The 4G icon looks E X T R E M E L Y U G L Y and I can't believe why T-Mobile/LG put such icon there. The signal bar doesn't turn green when internet is ready like NS.
Many of paid apps don't appear on market (including slingplayer).
Streamfurious is still NOT compatible with leaked version.
Dead internet browser (including Skyfire and default one).
Dead email client.
Leave leaked version for developers to work these junk out.
Yea just curious if anyone had heard anything more about the ota. I've not been able to find anything since the original blurb. Gave us a nugget and then poof. I refuse to use leaked versions after all the leaked versions reeked havoc on the captivates and vibrants. Just seeking if peeps might have found anything.

Also the 2.3 leak has been pretty stable for me.. I'm running Eagle Blood which is based off the leak.. I'm really a CM guy but CM 7 is just not as stable right now as Eagle Blood has been for me

screw patience
we have been patient. i was told that this phone would have an updated right after release. not a month later, but within days. that's what customer service told me, the t-mobile sales rep, and what about that who bull that it's "coming sooner than youd expect" or "its right the corner" or even "wait won't be long" and "coming soon!" all this quotes from t-mobile. Gingerbread was announced to be coming to this phone long before it the phone came out. i personally had the impression it would be on the phone already and the ONLY reason i was ok with purchasing a Froyo phone after having to deal with my Vibrant SGS for 10 months with only 1 update 6 months after froyo was released for everyone else, 8 months almost for vibrant. i'm done being patient. i expect more from a $500-$600 phone (most advanced phone when it was released). I have patients but there are limits. that "sooner than youd think line" has been said for weeks. and i know many many people feel the same way.
i personally think this could be another intentional put off by t-mobile to build up sensation release or other gingerbread stock phones being annouced/released like froyo was for vibrant (until a rep came out and leaked that it was being held off for the 4g vibrant release, then it was released within a week after it took half a year). this is a Google phone, which is why i purchased it so i would get updates fast like the other google devices have. and this phone needs it's updated for fixes ASAP before the SGS 2 is officially released or the Sensation, and then people will just move on. just my personal feelings. take this post however.
If there is one thing I've learned since being one of the first to have an Android phone is that no manufacturer, carrier, or even Google will promise a "date" for software updates. The availability of an update is announced when the update is available. Would you rather have something that is half-baked? Maybe that is why the GB build was leaked....to appease the whiners until it is really ready. I mean really, hasn't it been a month since the phone's been released? Perhaps the g2x (o2x) was rushed out the door with only 2.2 to be the first tegra2, but i would rather get it with 2.2 on it now than wait for it to have 2.3 to be released.
Even Cyanogen has said this, LOL, and I paraphrase: "It will be ready when it's ready. Now quit asking about release dates."

That's what she said
Learn how to root, learn how to flash... BOOM gingerbread. The newest nightly of CM7 (build 17) is pretty dang stable to me. It has less bugs than the stock ROM I believe. I never trust a word carriers say. Notice how much they said GB would be available right after release. They want to buy the phone with high expectations and then once their numbers are high enough, take their time. Its what always happens. SGS promissed froyo "soon" after release and it took many many many months (6-8?). Cyanogen however has always had either reasonable releases or sometimes faster than expected releases. I personally bought this phone with every intention of rooting and hacking the first day I bought it. To me thats the main advantage of buying a google experience phone.
After the botched leaks and roms that came with the sgs 's ill be leaving this phone stock with root until the official release comes. The thread wasn't a debate. Simply a question. Did some digging on my own and found nothing. Doesn't hurt to ask if others heard something else. We have many people on this site who work for companies that do have privy info.
So again just a question not a discussion carry on.

is this a joke or are u serious ?
No joke. I asked if it would be getting a 2.3 update and she said they are trying to make it so that by the end of the year all major (and sk4g is considered major) android phones will be on gingerbread. she specifically said sidekick will get 2.3 and I quote "There is no date yet, but they are trying to get it by the end of the year"
Of course, you have to keep in mind that I am taking someone elses word for it. albiet, it is someone "on the inside"
In the works is very different from saying "by year's end." Samsung makes builds and sends them to Tmo, but they never make it out to the end-user until they approve it. It's very likely that the sidekick will be one of the last of the "new" phones to get GB, as they have to add much more to our UI than just porting it to fit our processor, but also need to add the social parts of our phone (whether we want them or not).
P.S. GB has been "in the works" since the phone was released, it's all a matter of getting Tmo and Samsung to agree on what constitues a good/ releasable build.
I have the strange feeling that our sk4g won't ever get gingerbread officially t-mobile has a funny way of coming out with new devices rather than updating the original ones :-/ I forsee a new sidekick with gingerbread official coming out rather than us getting an official build. Don't quote me on it or anything its pure speculation but if I'm right give me some props or something lol
Not to say we won't find a way of porting the "new sk gingerbread" to th sk4g but I have a feeling the new device is more likely hell they may even release gingerbread for us and the new sk at the same time lol
The moral of this story is: personal opinions are fun. Aren't they? Lol

long wait...
For those counting, as soon as the GB source for the SGS4G gets released I can port their GB system to our phone, their ROMs/Kernels boot on our phones, they just don't have the drivers to do anything (like display what's going on).
The SGS4G has been getting leaked versions of GB for a month+ now, so the official GB release should be soon (hopefully).

I spoke with someone that works for Tmobile and was told Tmo and samsung have been working on GB for the sidekick for more than 3 months and im guessing its taking that long cause they are trying to make it very similar to our Froyo interface, unfortunately (along with the Tmo crap). Otherwise they wouldve gave us a GB ROM similar to the SGS4G. He said he doesnt know when it'll officially be rolling out but we should have it before thanksgiving (end of november). Thats pretty far to me.. but then again i have a vibrant and still never got an official GB release so take this info with a grain of salt. as the rest of us i sure hope its comes soon. Yea. Its annoying. On one hand Google makes them promise to provide upgrades for 18 months from launch of a phone. Then the providers are allowed to sit around and do nothing.
I don't get alot of you. ICS will be on the Thunderbolt as soon as the devs have some time to port it over. Hell Im running GB on my old G1 and official developement stopped on that back at 1.6. If you are here more than likely you are running some sort of custom rom and will be able to upgrade to ICS. Most people that really care about the latest greatest software for their device are Rooting, flashing, and reflashing every couple of weeks to new builds. For those that say that the TB isn't a GB device the official GB rom released a long time ago. I wouldn't hold my breath on the official ICS builds but by god stop your *****ing about it. If its not already rooted with S-off get it done now. Root that ***** overclock and put some life back into that 8 month old device. If you really want to have the newest hardware you will be buying a new phone every 3 months. This was the first 4G LTE phone on Verizon and so far it has made me happy. I have been running CM7 on it since the early alpha days and by God I will run CM9 on it as soon as the alpha drops. I've never been scared to try new roms.

Verizon has no incentive to upgrade the software anyways, why would they? You already bought the device and they've your money
Root it. Customize it. Curb battery consumption. Get the latest for it. Been running gingerbread for like 3 months and this thing flies. ICS will be released in the sweetest of custom roms as soon as it officially drops so just hold tight. Verizon and Google will never update this ***** again, look what happened with the official gb? Released and pulled. They want their money and for you to update to fhe newest. They want you mad at them so you spend the outright cash. That's why i assume you're all a part of this amazing community. The customization and time that goes into cooking a rom is amazing and what can be ported and ran on these phones is insane. Thanks, but Tmobile's promises are worth less than the 2 seconds it took me to scan that page. Actually, I'd like those seconds back. Learned this the hard way with the Vibrant, which would still be running Eclair if it were up to Tmobile. As it was, it took a full-on smear campaign to get Samsung to release a piss-poor update to Froyo that you had to know about to get, no OTA. So don't hold your breath on this one. I won't believe it until i see it.

Seems Samsung has gotten better with updates since then...I'd least I would hope so. Otherwise, I wouldn't even be looking at this phone.
Trev, I wasn't ranting at you, sorry if that was the impression. I am just a little pissed that T-Mo and Samsung always seem to make update promises, but never deliver. I really like the Blaze 4g, except for all the bloat, but I won't pick one up until it receives official ICS, or is supported by AOKP. I'm tired of hacked ROMs, and now that I have AOKP ICS for my Vibrant, I can never go back to gingerbread or lower.
