I heard that Gingerbread will be released for the Mesmerize within 3 weeks. Has it been leaked anywhere? Had anyone else heard this?
LOL. My guess is that's pure rumor. They only JUST released Froyo and there's NO WAY that they would release Gingerbread for the Mez right on the heels of another update... if at all.
Wow. Just wow.

I thought the same thing, but I heard it from someone who should know. I really don't think so either, however, I believe my source is telling me the truth. They say Samsung is working to get it to US Cellular and released within 3 weeks.

Although I agree with you, dying think it'll take THAT long the Google gingerbread Nexus S is samsung galaxy s hardware. And this kernel will support gingerbread, su least from what I've read.

I'll let you know as soon as it hits. I'm getting the firmware the same time the lab does, or at least I have been up to now.

I wouldn't count on it! Samsung and att completely dropped the ball on froyo. We might have a stable gingerbread rom before we see an official froyo. At this point if your even a casual xda member, there is no reason why you shouldn't be running one of the froyo roms in the dev forum. There are a handful of roms that will give you froyo with really very minor bugs if any!

All captivate froyo roms have issues because we have no captivate froyo source code. The roms are based on the old froyo cap beta releases or vibrant or i9000 froyo code. Until we see an official captivate release the cooked roms will have issues. I have not found a good one yet.
The i9000 roms carryover functions are phone doesn't have and the beta froyo based captivate roms suck battery and tend to have BT and modem issues.
I am still waiting for official froyo so we can get some solid cooked roms.

Is this suppose to be funny? GB that was MADE for your cappy vs a beta/rc version of GB that is ported and still has quite a few bugs?
As with everyone else, i'll get in line for the popcorn. Can I get a diet coke too?
Never gonna happen. at&t didn't give a single **** about releasing froyo on the captivate with any kind of speedy schedule and that was when it was new, do you really think that they will be johnny on the ball to release an update for a phone that's according to them, is at the end if its life? No, they will just push new phones on us cause that's where they stand to make the most money. And who cares if they do anyway? How many froyo roms do we know and love that started out as "ports that still had quite a few bugs"

i believe geo was asking if the i9000 was beta or not.. as the article says that gingerbread is coming to the galaxy s line... i9000 is the galaxy and we HAVE it.. right? no? well kinda!
the JVH/B that we already have for i9000 are the samsung firmwares from the firmware site open source versions.
NOW it is going to hit the carriers and KEIS.... bloat and other crap! yay~
Does this mean the source would also be made available?
Not gettin my hopes up...
When has official anything for our specific device ever been that great? Everybody was so excited about official at&t froyo update, it finally came, and never did blow anything we already had out of the water. As far as I'm concerned the devs will probably have something better worked up by the time official 2.3 drops.
My 2 cents.

2.3.4 patches rageagainstthecage, right?
Assuming if/when the Cap gets its promised (but vague North America Galaxy S) Gingerbread update, does that mean rooting becomes that much more difficult?
Have any of the US Galaxy S variants had a leaked, purported stock Gingerbread build?

So since this is 2.3.4, does that mean that the re-oriented kernels already out for 2.3.3 will work, or will they have to be tweaked to work with 2.3.4?

Seeing with the past problems with OTA and ATT/SAMSUNG I would doubt that it would be OTA. Also would this cause problems with our custom roms on GB already? Will the be "marked" for not updating?

Its safe to assume even if that's true for the international/european versions, it does not include the us carrier customizations.
Just think of it as samsung rewarding those that buy the device at full price rather than subsidized.

Gingerbread seems to have leaked out for the Captivate. If gingerbread is in the works for an older device, that means its on its way for the infuse. Right? Right???
Hmm..im gonna check when i get to work later. Im a rep an usually know a week or 2 before an update is released. Normally they do release an update for more than one device. Froyo came out on the captivate an aria at the same time...and seeing the canadian infuse released with gingerbread id say its right around the corner...remember this is our top phone right now. And at&t wants it to stay like that for a bit.

I wouldn't count on it. Our phone appears to have a partition layout more akin to the original galaxy s and to top it off our hardware is pretty different, so I wouldn't trust it. People were bricking their infuses in the first week or so by getting a little too adventurous with Captivate stuff.

They don't release it with current software because changing the base software in the middle of the project probably pushes the risk beyond what they are comfortable with.

Honestly in all due respect, I tried contacting several people from Samsung and tried to get answers to all my question's from those bone heads. I think Samsung is dragging their feet on Gingerbread, this has nothing to do with At&t at all. At&t was ready to give us some sort of GB release back in August, seems to me Samsung keeps holding back because all their newer phones are getting the most respect right now and not our already 1 penny Infuse.

Samsung is a complete joke. This is like a bad OS software. EX: Windows ME!, theirs nothing they can fix so they skipped it creating another phone next to this, Basically the only phone next to this would be the SkyRocket, Shares all aspects of our beloved Infuse, just upgraded hardware and better Support, plus they are getting ICS in the beginning of next year.
