I recently rooted my Inspire (2 days ago) and just today ive noticed that im getting dead spots on my touch screen. Its most noticeable when im typing something and one of the keys will hardly register. I will have to push multiple times, harder than I would normally have to for it to register. Rebooting the phone fixes the dead spot for a while, and then a new spot will have the same issue a little later. If anyone has any suggestions or and ideas on what could possibly be causing this I would really appreciate it.
What rom/kernel are you using? A lot of people were having that problem, including myself, and to my understanding it had something to do with the drivers. I believe Lee's latest kernel addresses this problem.

I've noticed this while using the CoreDroid ROM and the Gingerbread keyboard. I switched back to the HTC keyboard and deadspot is gone. So my guess is, its something with the GB keyboard.
Well I am using LeeDroid Rom. Does the regular rom itself not update the Kernel aswell?? Sorry if this is a dumb question, this was my first time rooting.
It's a well documented bug. It's hardware problems with inspires

same here, using Coredroid V7(even before v7) and Lee Kernel 3.1.7 BFS.
same here.. its always the A and the O with almost every rom..
@OP:
This is a known touch screen drivers issue. Only way out is to press power for screen off, and then press again for screen on. I don't think any of our devs here can do anything about it (atleast I assume so, with no doubts about the abilities of our devs).

Great! I generally (close to 95%) have my screen rotation turned off, so didn't notice it. Thanks for the idea though.
My power button at first seemed like it was being affected by the screenshot bug (i.e. one press, the screen would turn off and then back on) but it eventually got to the point where it won't work at all and almost seems stuck. When I take the battery out and put it back in, the phone turns on immediately, as if it's being pressed. Any way I can clean or maybe tinker with the button without hurting it?
Right now I'm using the button remapper and leaving the power button as power, and volume up as power as well. I tried to disable the power button altogether, but then my phone crashes and I have to reflash the rom to get back to working...

I had the same problem last week.Phone repaired in HTC service center for free. They changed big flat cable.....Hope this helps you....
Yeah, I went ahead and dug into it some more, got straight down to the power button itself, and I think the ribbon cable or the button itself must have gone bad. So for now I went a head and removed the button so it won't bother me. Now I find out they don't even sell replacements yet Dx haha, opps.
I would send it to HTC but I'd rather take care of this in my own way that way 1. I don't have to flash to stock, etc. and 2. because I don't feel like being without my baby.
Thanks for the help ^.^
EDIT:...opps. Forgot I kinda need the button to you know...turn the phone on. Glad I got adb lol.
It's a hardware problem, not software, so return it to the reseller or let HTC pick it up at home for you so they can repair it
Does anybody know when they're going to be selling replacement power buttons? Like I said, I'd really rather just keep my phone instead of sending it off...too much hassle for me.

Two thread, same problem, same title but at difference section. Seems like someone did not do searching first >¦[

As the title suggests, I have a Nexus S i9023 (no root, perfectly clean) and the major problem is that i've upgrade the phone to ICS manually and now there are some things that don't work (recovery, light sensor, etc.). I know that there are a lot of threads like this, i know that the problem of the recovery is a problem of brightness, but i wanna know which ROM i've to flash. I'm using the build IML74K.
Another problem is that sometimes the keyboard freezes. Is it caused by the wrong build?
Which rom did you flash?
Try lastest version of ics
I'm using ICS 4.0.3, build IML74K, flashed manually.

I am using the same on my i9023 with no issues, only difference is I am rooted and have clockwork recovery. I suggest a re flash.
I'll try to re-flash the same ROM. If it won't work i'll root the phone and i'll flash CM9.
Anyway, how can i solve the problem of the keyboard? I don't think it's a problem of the build.
I've flashed the ROM for Nexus S i9023 two times but the problems still remain. Any suggestion?

Only thing I can suggest is installing clockwork recovery, rooting etc and flashing another rom to see if the problem persists, if so then it probably a hardware issue.
Also where did you get the rom your flashing? There is a thread in the general section with the full rom package I used. Its on the first page at the mo.
Ok maybe there's no solution (i'm new in this forum so i can't post link as the one below):
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23065&can=1&q=ics%20nexus%20s%20i9023%20recovery&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars
So I think it will be fixed in the next release. I ask confirmation if someone knows something.

Yeah that's the one, flash the full rom package. You may just have a corrupt .zip.
Alredy done two times, but the problem remains. Mmmh i don't think it's a corruption problem, i mean, i've tried to put the update in the phone from two PC.

Recovery: Known problem. Backlight stays off. Nothing you can do without unlocking your bootloader or rooting. Angle + lamp will show you what is on the screen.
Light Sensor: It's still buggy. With the phone locked, cover your hand over the light sensor (left of the ear piece while facing the phone). Hand still covering, unlock the phone. After a few seconds, remove your hand and face it under a light source. What i've noticed is it'll get brighter initially but refuse to darken again. Of course, you need to have Automatic brightness adjustment (just in case it isn't set to auto).
Unsure about your keyboard problem though, but it does like to stay open for longer than i'd like after going back to the home screen.

Yeah, it remains open also after going back to the home screen, and it doesn't work. The only way is to crash it by going to the setting of the keyboard in the notifications.

Mine doesn't remain open though,. It just stays for say half a second, then animates away. Would be much more perfected if it went away while animating the previous window away, not a second later. I've not experienced the keyboard causing those kind of problems.
Might be wise to try SwiftKey or some other kind of keyboard alternative? That is easily enough to sway me away from stock.

I agree. I'll wait for an Experimental Mod of CM9, then i'll root the phone.

If you have problems (like the recovery one and the light sensor) with ICS 4.0.3, build IML74K, on your Nexus S i9023 there's nothing you can do, probably Google will fix it on his next update 4.0.5.
I'll just add that many custom ROMs allow light sensor manipulation. I hear there are great, working settings, its just the stock calibration that sucks. I've not tried this myself, but should be available in cm9, cna, etc.

Let me explain my issue.
My proximity sensor stopped working (it would work occasionly) when running HyperNonSense ICS. I tried installing the DHD proximity sensor app, but that doesn't support the kernel. I have recently flashed virtious inqusition, and the sensor now will not work at all. I have tried the DHD app again, with the same issue, and I have tried pointing a camera at it whist calling voicemail, however there was no responce. I have also tried a proximity sensor app (http://goo.gl/TlTa8 and http://goo.gl/9gf4V) however both show no reading.
I guess I am going to have to send it in (I don't want to be without it!!!) Unless anyone has any suggestions.
EDIT: Sorry mod - didn't realise I was posting in general!

According to the user manual, the proximity sensor is in the top left corner, under the glass of the screen, do you have a full size screen protector on, it could be blocking it.

I always thought that the proximity sensor and the light sensor were in the same area, but regardless both of mine seems to be messed up. The led lights at the bottom of my phone don't even come on anymore. :-\

If sending it back for a repair will fix it,that means there is actually a way to fix it,so why no one knows how to do it?
It`s a HTC secret or something?!
Mine just died today fully. Phone would turn on over the last couple of days then when it goes into stand by the screen would freeze. A pull of the battery and reboot would not get it to come back on. I then treid a couple of adb reboot commands and it got it back again.
Then today it just died. Not getting battery light or anything. All it will do is power on and vibrate then nothing. As I am custom rom I cant send it back or they will charge a fortune, so just bit the bullet and ordered a new one arriving on Saturday
Let me just clarify - I have no screen protector on - Just this case http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005B3OEV2/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details - I have sent the phone in to carphone and will report when I get it back

@brilldoctor: I have been struggling with this for WEEKS! It is NOT a hardware problem. It's an upgrade to ICS and get stuck with this **** problem! I tried other threads and nothing successful. My capacitive backlights for the touchpad under the LCD's dont work either WITHIN a ROM. In recovery they work fine. Another run-around was to Fix Permissions in Recovery also and then boot into the ROM and sometimes they all worked, sometimes they didn't. Another one was to SuperWipe and start from scratch down to the Radio flashing level.....same ****, lights, sensors don't work.
I'm still going crazy trying to figure it out as it is NOT a hardware problem!!!!!!
Hi guys! I'm having the same problem here, my proximity sensor is not working at all, I'm on Virtuous inquisition 4.0.2 and tried different kernels but nothing! I just wanna know if it is a hardware problem or something else??
Do you guys found a solution or an explanation to the problem? Or still using your sensation without the proximity sensor?

Same thing with prox sensor here
Weird thing is that, when I take the flashlight and point it to the prox sensor (with light) andro sensor Anrdoid Sensor Box reports that proximity sensor is working (0.0 cm -> 3,5 cm).
That would definitely mean that it's a software, not a hardware problem.
Maybe some kind of calibration for proximity sensor would fix it, but I can't find one (there are for rezound and zte, but no for sensation (pyramid)).
How can I just disable it?

When you boot your phone, cover the sensor with your thumb. That is all.

and wagedroid cover dont help :S huh , so unhappy :S
I have the same problem as all of you guys. I tried everything I found as a possible solution on the web, but none of them worked for me. The funny thing is, that they work sometimes, and sometimes don't work. But what I found out, is that they are not working when the battery charge is 30%-100%, and when gets less than 30%, they start working perfectly. I tested it for about a week, and it was the same everytime the charge was getting less that 30%. So may be some of the developers might know where this problem could be coming from, since on a low charge the sensors work just fine.
If it matters, I am using my stock battery, but it is the same with my other battery.
My current ROM is ViperS 1.6.3, Sense 4.1 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671547&highlight=vipers

It looks like it could possible be a hardware problem (ie. dodgy screen connection, faulty GPU) have you installed any custom roms?

Yeah, that is what it sounded like..
before you spend out big in getting it repaired, I'd just double check it is a hardware problem. Try booting into hboot by shutting the phone down completely, take out the battery and put it back in, then press and hold volume down + power until something shows up. If you get a screen with text try doing a factory reset. But if it looks like the screenshot from before then it defiantly is a hardware problem.

Hi Gents,
Iv'e got the exact same problem. By what has been said allready it sounds like this is pretty fatal... Is there anything that you could suggest i do that might solve the issue? or is it game over until a new screen/LCD unit/ (insert correct term here) is found?
