Power Button issue (hardware) - HTC Sensation

My power button at first seemed like it was being affected by the screenshot bug (i.e. one press, the screen would turn off and then back on) but it eventually got to the point where it won't work at all and almost seems stuck. When I take the battery out and put it back in, the phone turns on immediately, as if it's being pressed. Any way I can clean or maybe tinker with the button without hurting it?
Right now I'm using the button remapper and leaving the power button as power, and volume up as power as well. I tried to disable the power button altogether, but then my phone crashes and I have to reflash the rom to get back to working...

See my post in the General forum.

I had the same problem last week.Phone repaired in HTC service center for free. They changed big flat cable.....Hope this helps you....

Yeah, I went ahead and dug into it some more, got straight down to the power button itself, and I think the ribbon cable or the button itself must have gone bad. So for now I went a head and removed the button so it won't bother me. Now I find out they don't even sell replacements yet Dx haha, opps.
I would send it to HTC but I'd rather take care of this in my own way that way 1. I don't have to flash to stock, etc. and 2. because I don't feel like being without my baby.
Thanks for the help ^.^
EDIT:...opps. Forgot I kinda need the button to you know...turn the phone on. Glad I got adb lol.

It's a hardware problem, not software, so return it to the reseller or let HTC pick it up at home for you so they can repair it

Does anybody know when they're going to be selling replacement power buttons? Like I said, I'd really rather just keep my phone instead of sending it off...too much hassle for me.

Power button not working...

I woke up this morning to find the power button on my nexus s unresponsive... I wishfully thought that it was an internal problem and proceeded to wipe, but I had no luck with that. I am currently using an app off of the market that allows you to unlock the phone using the volume buttons, but I would prefer to have the original power button repaired in one way or another. Does anyone know what i should do about this?
I would take it back to a sprint store and ask for repair or replacement. And be sure to unroot and all that good stuff.

I feared this is the only advice i would get... And i dont have a ns4g
thanks anyway though.
If you turn off your phone, how do you turn it back on without a working power button? If that still works, I would think it was a software issue and would revert to a OEM system.

Power button not working! HELP!

I was using the phone normally and all of a sudden my screen wouldn't turn off when I pressed the power button. I tried for a while and it finally did. For 2 hours after that, 4-5 presses of the power button put my phone to sleep/wake.
Now it's absolutely not responding! I can't even use it to power on my phone(I could do it through usb but I would rather have the power button back working).
HELP!!!
It's not working in recovery either. Can this be deemed as a hardware problem?
yes its hardware problem
give it to samsung care
Apparently the switch was shorted. Got it replaced with the volume down switch for now. A new switch will arrive 2 days from now so my volume down will be back.
Quick question -- Can undervolting cause these kind of problems?
Thanks.
help
help me!! same happened to me :/ I tried relocking bootloader and I can't. should I send it to Samsung ?
If you have Cyanogen on your Nexus you can apply an option which wakes up your phone with volume buttons

I was on the carbon series rom but then the power button stopped working so I restored to stock rom and was hoping to lock bootloader but while in fastboot mode volume keys don't work either so I can't select anything

You don't have to send it back to Samsung. Go to some electronics service center guy who knows his stuff. They'll just replace the switch.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Until then you can use this app called "fix broken power". It'll let you unlock using volume buttons.

Yeah thanks I'd rather get it fixed in one day instead of sending it out

get it fixed at some electronics store. cost me just Rs. 800 (around $17).
@ anirudh- oh ok .....what was the exact problem??
I think I am beginning to suffer from this as well. Sometimes the power button won't respond and then it would randomly (after a few presses mostly) bring up the phone options menu. I am considering sending it back to Samsung for repair.
@ anirudh- i bought the phone from the US. Hence will i able to give the phone for repair in bangalore samsung service centre?

Mine was bought in US too. I went to a local mobile service center and got it done. So not necessarily a Samsung service center. Just take it to any guy who can handle smartphones. There's bound to be quite a lot in Bangalore.
My problem? Power button didnt respond until 4-5 presses and eventually died out. The guy said the power button switch got shorted. No idea how and why. Got a new switch and replaced it.
Qick OT: WTF is wrong with those power buttons in nexus devices?! N1 had issues with power button too!
Sorry for OT, I had to share my thoughts on this
@ anirudh- do you know any place in bangalore where they can replace the power button??
also how do i root my phone?
For rooting check the development forum here. It's pretty easy. As for repair, I've no idea about service centers in Bangalore. Sorry.

Check out ButtonRemapper. I've never used it, so I don't know if it includes the functionality to allow you to disable hardware button functions altogether, but if so, this might be what you're looking for.
Then, you could resort to something such as ButtonSavior to add software buttons.
edit: I tried out ButtonRemapper, and unfortunately, it doesn't allow disabling buttons completely, or if it does, I'm not seeing how. Sorry, I tried. =( Good luck finding a solution that will work for you.
Try adapting this method to our phone. You will want to make a backup first. Also, it's likely that you'll need to pull the file from the ROM's zip, edit it on a computer, and push it with adb.
Having a stuck Back button must be pretty disabling...

Variants of the HTC ONE S (questions...)

Okay, hey guys. I'm very very confused here.
I bought the HTC One S with T-Mobile back in September 2012. Loved the phone a lot. Had a few annoyances, such as the power button being difficult to press. Well, back in December I had to get a warranty because the camera just refused to focus, and every text I sent got marked as pending, and sometimes never even sent, though I had no idea if it did or not.
So, I get the new One S two days later. Right off the bat, the new phone is much faster, camera is amazing, colors are more vibrant. I realize than the previous One S I had was a dud. The camera was never as good as this. So, I start digging around and doing a comparison on what the difference is between the two. They both seemed night and day different. I look in the Software area, and notice differences. Same android version, though different baseband, kernal, HTC extension version, and software number. All of them were different. Though, the first One S I had NEVER had any software updates. Checked manually multiple times, with nothing.
So what's the deal their? Why were they so different? Oh, and let me note... both phones are s4's.
Now we fastforward to now. I had to warranty the phone yet again. For some reason the volume down button just stopped working. Didn't install any apps, never dropped it... nothing. So, I tried to restart the phone, and it puts me in the hboot menu. Okay, so it's acting as if i'm holding down the volume button. I could hit volume up in the hboot to different selections, though I can't select anything with power button because it's acting like volume down is being held.
So, After messing with it for roughly 30 minutes, it finally boots up, and I get back to the home screen. Okay, now the phone is in safemode. So, I call them, they send me a new phone. I literally just got done setting it up. Now again, I notice differences! The power button is the same as the first One S I had. Hard to press, no real button click feel. The One S I had with the volume button issue had a perfeclty fine power button that actually clicks so you know you pressed it. Again, this new one I just got is the s4 version.
Why are the power buttons different?? I look under the back cover, and the good power button actually is higher up, white button. The new one I just got is lower, and a black button. Doesn't give the button click. What's the deal? It's very annoying to press this button, it's hard to press.
Software is all the same, but now the colors on the screen are different. This new One S is more vibrant, and seems like whites are True whites.
Sorry for the long post, just confused on why out of the 3 phones i've had, they are all different in some way, yet they are all s4 models.
- Okay on a side now, since the JB world wide ota is out, can I download and flash it to my T-Mobile, s4 model? Or should I just wait for the OTA to come to me?
The T-mo uses different casing than the rest of the world. That might have something to do with it.
When you press voldown, does it make the "click" or does it feel like its already pushed down?
If its the latter, maybe you could take something thing and sortof "pop out" the voldown button.
It clicks.
What about the different power buttons?

Looking at the two phones side by side. The camera is different again. The new one I just received camera doesn't focus very clear and colors are way off.
This is getting quite ridiculous. So gonna warranty again for number 4.

Yeah. I just don't understand why every one I'm getting is different. The boards on these 2 were the sim card goes are completely different aswell.
Same phone, yet they all have different hardware. Why?? They are all the s4 processor too.

They could be made in different manufacturing facilities.
When i would work on blackberry's and other devices i often found different color boards, different versions of LCDs.
Dont forget that during manufacturing if they find problems, or have any chance in parts they will have different hardware versions of the same phone..
If i had to guess i would say that HTC makes very small variants of the same phone and you might have gotten an international version that was converted to a TMO versions.. or visa versa.. OR an early production hardware versus a late production hardware.

Power button magically stopped working

Out of nowhere my power button magically no longer works. Kind of a huge deal since I use my phone for work a TON. At first I thought it was the ROM but then I rebooted into recovery and discovered it doesn't work in there either...... but by some sort of miracle though my phone magically boots itself up when I swap batteries in it....
I am rooted and running Beans 20.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

You can get an app called button savior from Google play that allows you to create on screen keys to turn off your screen.
Various xposed modules allow you to remap your physical keys. If you don't know about the xposed framework I highly suggest looking into it.
Furthermore I believe some custom roms have key mapping built in.

My power button just started malfunctioning too. I'm on Odin barebones 4.1.2 stock and the problem persists.
It sounds like a lot of people are getting this problem. If you use that knowledge to your advantage, I've heard people convince Samsung it's a manufacturing problem and got it repaired outside of Warranty. The power button itself is sautered onto the motherboard, so unless you really trust a mobile repair company, best option is work directly with Samsung.
That being said, I'm going to look for an Xposed Framework module that can remap the power button.
I looked for one, didn't really find what I was looking for... selling mine on ebay now to pay for my new phone...

Wow. My power button just stopped working also.
My phone is stock.
I did replace the glass myself a couple months ago and it's been working fine until about a week ago. Was wondering if that had anything to do with it.
Interesting to see I'm not the only one having issues.
Kind of timely now that the S5 is coming out this week.

This is happening to a lot of people. I'm sure the s4 will start having this problem followed by the s5 after a year and some months. Im done with samsung phones until they start using different parts. Actually thinking about the next nexus phone and hack a msata drive into it with a custom vacume formed case. The only reason I haven't owned one is because of the storage limitation. I think a 200+ gigabyte msata strapped to the back would fix that problem.

Hey guys, mine originally starting messing up on Saturday, and then Sat night and all day Sun is was fine, and now it is doing it again. I even installed a new rom and it is still doing it so now I am convinced it is purely physical and not rom-related. What are you guys going to do?
I have the Wireless Phone Protection for my phone and am thinking about using that to my advantage to get a new device....question is I've never done it before. If I say I have a physical problem with my phone then won't Verizon want it returned? That will make me have to unroot it and bring it back to out of box state which is a big headache. What if I just say I lost it or it got stolen? Am I better off going that route?
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that along with these power button issues my S3 also will not reboot on its own. If I select Reboot (be it from the power button menu, notification pulldown, etc) it will just shut off and not reboot.....but if I yank the battery and put it back in it will then reboot to recovery. Same deal if I do a normal reboot, haven to yank and replace battery. You guys having these issues too?
So a couple of days ago my power button started acting wonkie as well. I would push it and it basically acted sticky. I would push once but it would register twice or as a long press. Either turning the screen on and off or bring up the reboot menu. So I did the xposed button remapping. Worked pretty well, but if I restarted the phone it would do a weird haptic feedback thing every couple of seconds before finally booting up.
So I wasn't satisfied with just living with it being a hardware issue. So I downloaded latest cleanrom to flash from cm11. I rebooted recovery and now it just vibrates every couple of seconds. Would not make it to twrp. It will get to cm Samsung boot screen but then just goes back to vibrating black screen. I took out battery and popped out power button but same results.
Any suggestions? Think power button can be fixed by repair shop or is it time to go back to my trusty droid incredible until I can upgrade.

It can be fixed. There is also a way of temporarily making the power button work but I don't feel like explaining it again. If you do some searching there are at least 20 threads that have the temp fix in it.
