The screen on my fiance's EVO Shift 4G keeps turning on when she's talking on the phone causing her to "face press" the mute button. She's getting really annoyed by it and I cannot find any options for the proximity sensor. There is an anti-glare screen protector on it. Could that be causing this?
BTW, it's stock 2.2.
Haven't been on 2.2 in a while. But if I remember right it's under Menu-settings-calls. But likeI said not sure, it's been a while.
I blame the women. Wifey used to always do the same thing on her Evo. Then I think she just figured out how to hold it right

Fixed it! It was the cheap ebay case. It was covering up the sensor confusing it or something. You could dial a call and hold it in your hand and the screen would flash on and off randomly. No case, no more problems
Good deal . Glad you got it.

Hey,
I was just curious, has anyone had a problem with the call/home side of the navigation panel raising slightly on your Touch Pro? I haven't dropped the phone at all, yet this started to occur after 2-3 days of having the phone, I'm tempted to take it back, but when I make a call, it simply pops back down. If it becomes a reoccuring problem I'm definitely going to take it back to Sprint; however, before doing so I was just wondering if anyone else had this issue, simply so I can label it as a manufacturing defect, not carelessness, which I'm sure Sprint will immediately think. Thanks in advance for any help, guys/gals.

I have had this problem. It started to really annoy me so i took it back to bb, plus the way mine was sticking out i felt that some type of dust or debris would get stuck inside the phone.
Well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who experienced this problem, I have reason to believe it might have been caused when I took off the plastic coating originally on the front face of the phone, and the adhesion to those keys raised it a bit, cause I know I haven't dropped it at all. Thanks for the reply though.
My wife has a brand new Infuse 4g, stock rom, not rooted. Everything works fine except that every once in a while while in a call, the screen will go black (proximity sensor) but will not come back on when pulled away from her face. Even hitting the power button will not bring it up. This has happened when answering a call too. She'll accept the call, and the screen will immediately go black. It doesn't happen all the time, and appears very random. She has it in a Ballistic HC case. The problem has never occurred out of the case, but that isn't to say it won't. Any idea what the problem could be? Anyone else out there having the problem that can attribute it to the case? I'm willing to cut the screen protector out of the case (at least the part over the sensor) but don't want to if it's not the problem. Thanks in advance for any possibilities.

If she has the first gen Ballistic then she needs to return it to ATT and get a second gen case for free. They had problems with the first gen. There is a number on the edge of the case that will tell you if she needs it or not. It is very small writing and should say C-02 if it says C-01 then she has the older version case and needs the new one that says C-02. I went and got another one as i had the C-01 case and the side buttons made it do weird things. The new case works flawlessly.
I looked and it appears this one is the c-02. The Ballistic rep said they weren't experiencing problems with this. My wife cut away the clear piece that covered the proximity and light sensor and the problem is gone. I would have rather not had to go that route, but it is what it is. I'm just happy it works now.
I have an Otterbox Defender on my Desire. When you make calls with HTC Sense or most Androids I believe, the screen shuts off when you hold the phone to your ear but when you bring it back down to end the call or what not, the screen is supposed to turn back on allowing you to use it. When I have my Defender on my screen does not turn back on. If I call someone and they don't answer I have to strip my phone of the case fairly quickly before the call goes the voicemail, sometimes it doesn't quite work out that way. I emailed customer support at Otterbox and they are replacing my case for free (pretty sweet right?) But I'm afraid that its not my case that causes this. Does anybody know what could be doing this and what I can do to fix it?
Thanks.
Test it
The listing for that case says it allows 'Complete interaction of the device's functions', and the picture (PDF) of the case looks to have an oval-shaped cutout for both the proximity and light sensors. Your screen should turn back on when you move it from your ear during a call, so something is wrong.
The easiest way to test is to get a digital camera, any will do. point it at the front of your phone like you were going to take a photo. You should see the little proximity sensor blinking during a call. It's at the top left, just above the screen. The light from the sensor isn't visible to the eye, but camera sensors pick it up fine.(You can use this trick with most remote controls, too.) Try it with the case on, then off. If you see a difference then the case is the problem.
Some ROMs allow you to hang up calls by pressing the power button. I'm using Oxygen and I prefer this feature to waiting for the screen and buttons to come up. It doesn't fix your problem but it's a workaround.
EDIT: here's an example from a different phone on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZEEoIYp-Dc
Thanks for your suggestion and your reply. I'm gonna see what happens with this new Otterbox when it arrives. If it doesn't work I am going to see if I can get a patch or something to flash to make it so I can either hang up with the power button like you said or that I can turn my screen on with my track pad.
There should be a little piece of plastic in the spot covering the sensor, if it is dirty it won't allow the screen to come back on. Had a customer the other day with the exact same problem with the defender series on her Mesmerize/Fascinate and cleaning that area helped.
What series is your new case? Another Defender? Or are you going to try for Commuter? I personally like the way the Commuter looks more than Defender.
My new case should be a defender as that is what case I'm having problems with. There isn't a whole lot of variety for Otterbox in Canada, they are rather scarce. I had a near impossible time finding my defender and I've never even seen a commuter for it here.

My display has really been acting up as of late. I'll press home button to wake and sometimes the screen will just flash on and off a bunch of times before finally being usable. Other times when I press the home button to wake, I just get this yellow tint that bleeds onto the screen. Anyone else experience this?
Did you drop it? These phones have really sensitive displays. In my experience, next are purple splotches until it stops working.
Do you have a service center nearby?
Believe it or not, but no drops since release! (knock on wood)
It's also been in an OtterBox Defender case, just to be safe.
Good to hear, hope you figure it out. If you live near Samsung care Center, might be worth stopping by.
yes me today blink diferent color really im scare for this
No matter what update I have, the buttons have ghost presses once in a while and they don't press sometimes, mainly in landscape and left hand portrait use. On the latest OTA, I never used it much without the case to test if it's the case or the update.
The case I use is this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F33LZFH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Vs-OBb9ZVVT38

Yeah i have the same case and the same issues like you. Landscape in youtube doesnt work at all for me
I have the Spigen crystal clear and I get ghost presses all the time. Kinda sucks... Buttons worked fine for me out of the box until the software updates started. Now I have ghost presses at least once every other day, sometimes the power button stops responding at all until a soft key is pressed, and sometimes touching the corners or back of the phone gives a ghost press... I've even had a couple of absolutely true ghost presses... Phone on its own not even being touched and I see the screen come alive and the volume move all the way up.
Even without a case, the occasional ghost press happens... Just not as frequently. I'm starting to understand all the early reviews and frustration. For me, it seems like the buttons are actually getting worse with each software update.
I hate it because I love the phone otherwise.
i have tested spigen clear case and mubi clear case for htc u12+
and unamed chinese clear case
the only case whit any issue on the button are mubi clear case for htc u12+
buyed on ebay

I think I figured something out. The phone's buttons react much better when I'm gripping onto the sides just like smart rotate. Would the edge sensors be effecting the buttons?
I have the same problem. Contacted their customer support. They told me that they have never heard about such a issue. I don't think so. I think HTC should declare a recall for that.
Hi.
Same here... But... When you have problem w egdebuttons press software buttons or fingerprints scanner. After this starts everythings back to normal. Rotate makes the way too
