I've seen several posts mentioning cleaning the USB pins in case they are dirty.
Has anyone tried something like this? I'm pretty sure this is similar to, if not the same spray degreaser/cleaner for PCB's I've used in the past.
I recall from my days cleaning moving light fixtures that you could spray this stuff all over circuit boards and it would get everything off without hurting the electronics. I would guess it would work for USB ports, too.
Anyone have any thoughts/experiences with this?

A little preface. I've repaired numerous phones and have never had a problem like this.
Foward to now: I had a guy come to me with two evo shift 4g's with cracked screens that were working fine just cracked which to me didn't look like a problem. It's litterally 4 connections alltogether but what I have found is that my digitizer will work for a second then stop. Battery pull then it works for a minute and then back to not working. The problem is that it's both of the phones that are acting the same way.
Question: Is this a common problem because I know all my connections are perfect and I'm getting tired of going back through these phones,
Any help is appreciated.

Did you replace the Digitizer as an assembly? Meaning the Digitizer, and the LCD. Or did you just replace the Digitizer Screen? Also when you were in there did you make sure and inspect the Flex Cable thoroughly? I have found that even the small breaks in the Flex Cable will cause, weird issues to occur.

I replaced just the digitizer as the lcd screen was fine and working properly. I've got a desk magnifier when I take the phones apart and all the connections were seated correctly, ribbon cables were all in the same shape as they came, no tears and scuffs anywhere. This is why im just aggravated because what else could this be?
What your mentiioning points to a Flex Cable issue. But if your sure, then I'm at a loss. Did you make sure and put all the fasteners back in? Did any of the connectors act weird when being reconnected? That sometimes ends in a bent Pin.

Well the flex cables looked fine when I took it off the back of the lcd. The flex cable had 4 connector spots. One snap on connector to the board and three push to snap connectors (one at the top where the speaker is and two at the bottom).
My thing is that the digitizer for the shift had a peice that you had to bend on top of itself so it would have the correct length to snap into the connector at the top where the speaker is. If never felt good about bending ribbon cables but thats how the ones before this one came and even in the videos they did that. It just makes me wonder if that could be the reason.
Hmmmm... if the Flex Cable was actually bent, instead of gently curved that could possibly cause issues. But it doesn't seem like that is what's going on here. I would check everything again. Especially the Flex Cable, and connections.

I'm just fed up with this thing. I just went through it again and I've gotten to the point I'm just gonna buy the phone from my customer and leave it at that. I've never seen a phone give me so much damn trouble. Thanks for all your help!
I was looking back through my notes ( yes I do enough were I have to keep notes ) just now. I found something that might interest you. Had something sort of similar occur a while back. The device was giving me serious headaches. Well I had forgotten to ask how the device was damaged. When I asked the woman how the device was damaged. She explained that it had been dropped on a curb, and then fallen into a puddle. She then dried it out, and bought it to me. I had repaired two phones for her previously. So I never thought to ask how this one was damaged. The thing was being dropped in water, was what ruined it. Caused all kinds of issues I could not resolve. Ended up switching the Mother Board for her. That was the only thing that resolved the issue. So you may want to ask if the device has been dropped in water. But it's not just that easy. Because you then have to deal with Sprint, because in essence it changes the Phones ID .

This is the one I bought, for a reference. I'm just curious if anyone else has done it and what problems they ran into. I'm no stranger to electronics, so I'm not afraid to take it apart, I'm just worried that I'm going to end up doing something wrong.
For example, the glass and digitizer are fused together, right?
And do you go around the front or the sides with the heat gun? 750w or 1300w?
Here's a good DIY video:

A hair dryer should suffice so I don't think you need such a powerful heat gun.

I posted this thread a few days ago after replacing the digitizer myself. The video referred to by another member was for a phone, and personally I doubt a hairdryer would suffice for the job 'cause cell phones usually use light double-sided tape to hold the almost weightless glass. The tape on the Tab 2, on the other hand, is quite strong. You can use sheer force except there's no gap at the edge, front or back, and you might damage the LCD display in the process. I used a dryer for a few minutes and it did nothing to loosen the adhesive. Good luck.
That is an awesome tutorial. You're right about it giving confidence, as well as answering many of the questions I had. I guess I'm more concerned now over just various tips and tricks.
Is there any fine science to lining it up? How easily can it be fingerprinted and what would you use? Also, I've heard of WD-40 to remove the glue left over. What should I use if this one doesn't include any adhesive?
As you can see, I'm clearly a worrier. Got it honest.

Lining it up is a no-brainer since the glass fits snugly into the frame. The lcd is a non-issue since it is separated from the touchscreen. As far as finger prints,I use a 50/50 white vinegar/water solution. Be sure to wipe it off with a microfiber cloth while it's still wet. For left-over glue,I use either Goo-gone and 91% alcohol afterwards, or acetone. WD40 is fine though I am not sure it would not leave any residue after drying out. In case the new one has no adhesive, the better choice would be the outdoor double-sided tape for 5 lbs at Home Depot, or failing that, loctite outdoor epoxy though this one could get messy.
Here's something that's so general it should probably be in the Android section...
What:s the BEST way to clean your charging terminal/connector?
My overambitious device recently has been fussy about charging unless I wiggle the charger plug a li'l. I think those little fiddly bits want some scrubbing, but that space is so tiny... what do YOU use?
BTW, I found some tiny little conical bristle brushes that are for cleaning between your teeth. They are great for getting lint and stuff out of the RCA jack!
So there's my tip, what's yours???
Do you know how to fix the headphone jack?
It's to loose for me.
Never had to do that... I had problems once because lint in there was keeping the headphones from snapping in properly. But if it's actually loose you might to solder it. Perhaps youtube has a video.
I found that another charger works fine, so it must be a problem with that.
My question still stands... what is a good tool for cleaning in there? Maybe it's a bad idea? What do you think?
The thin plastic pieces around each of the slots on the tablet (charging/docking) where it connects to the keyboard dock have broken. I've tried super glue, and Gorilla glue, and each will hold for a short while, and then break again.
Anyone have any good solutions?
Thanks.
No-one else has had the plastic around the slots break?
I can confirm I've experienced this issue. I never tried to fix it; by the time it started breaking, it was old enough that I was ready to replace it anyway.
Replace the tablet, or replace the case? Thanks for the reply!
Is USB port in Oneplus 6 fully waterproof? On that video it looks like. It looks like it was filled with plastic behind the pins.
Today I wanted to clean USB port with isopropyl alcohol and I filled port with that (I used too much of isopropyl). Now I'm afraid if some of alcohol could get inside my phone. Is it possible? I don't think so because on video it looks like it is 100% waterproof but I would like to know what do you think about that.
the phone isn't IP Certified but OnePlus has already stated that the phone is resilient to the weather (in example the rain, etc wouldn't really screw over the phone). I don't think the alcohol will screw up your phone, i'd assume the phone will be okay at the end of the day
Isopropyl alcohol won't do anything to your phone. It evaporates too fast and is not electrically conductive. But this phone is not anything close to 100% waterproof.
