USB port waterproofness - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Is USB port in Oneplus 6 fully waterproof? On that video it looks like. It looks like it was filled with plastic behind the pins.
Today I wanted to clean USB port with isopropyl alcohol and I filled port with that (I used too much of isopropyl). Now I'm afraid if some of alcohol could get inside my phone. Is it possible? I don't think so because on video it looks like it is 100% waterproof but I would like to know what do you think about that.

the phone isn't IP Certified but OnePlus has already stated that the phone is resilient to the weather (in example the rain, etc wouldn't really screw over the phone). I don't think the alcohol will screw up your phone, i'd assume the phone will be okay at the end of the day

Isopropyl alcohol won't do anything to your phone. It evaporates too fast and is not electrically conductive. But this phone is not anything close to 100% waterproof.

touch pro got wet and now keyboard doesnt work, any advice?
it was bought from ebay so not under warranty
most likely you shorted something out. unless you open it up and find out what exactly you did (do so only if you have experience with circuits) most likely out of luck.
You could also find a damaged one on ebay and use it for parts to replace the ones that the water has shorted out..
You could take out the battery and put it in an air tight container full of cotton ball/rice to wick the remaining moisture out of your phone. If that doesnt work if you're brave enough you could pour distilled water over your phone (with the battery out) then you can open her up and dry her out with low heat and then do the cotton ball trick. I did that trick for an old blackberry pearl and it worked. It decided it wanted to be a submerine and take a swim in my pool.

Waterproofing Electronics?

Lately I have been thinking of a DIY home waterproofing for my phone... I've been throwing around a couple of ideas after seeing the Liquipel website. Surely there must be something we can do to water-proof or water-resist our Cappy!?
I have a couple old phones which I am willing to experiment different processes on, and then dunk into water.
Does anyone have any ideas?
My first thought is covering the insides with some kind of varnish with the phone taken apart...

Varnish even if its less flamable when dry, may cause overheating. If you wait a few years this will surely become available to the public.

IMHO, with today's technology you can only make the Captivate water resistant ,,,,to a point. Due to the open headphone jack, micro USB connector, volume keys, power button, and removable battery - all with metal contacts - water proofing will not work if the phone is completely soaked. A better solution would be a one piece case that allows full use of the screen, volume, and power buttons. Plugged in headphone and usb connection would only work with the case off. But I don't know how big the market would be for such a case..Good Luck
Not to mention if u coat cappy it would over heat because water proof phone are not made to dissipate heat the way the cappy is

Liquipel uses nano technology to coat the inside and outside from water. It repels liquid hence the name. I am not sure why I didn't follow through with sending my sgs2 to them when I first got it since they are only 5 minutes from my work. My next phone will get it for sure. Their technology coats it so well that even the liquid sensors will always stay white and not get wet. They showed how to at one of the electronic conventions when they completely dunked it under water and let it sit there. I think I read they even took pictures with a phone under water while it was dunked.

Amazing how little you really know! There are many companies out there, that "waterproof" your electronic toy using nano technology! Google it and see for yourself!

Case with Covered USB Port?

Has anyone found a case for the Moto X Pure (Style) that has a covered USB port?
I bring my phone into the shower with me to listen to music, and I want to do whatever I can to prevent water from getting into the USB port. I know that the phone is somewhat water-repellent with its coating, but I'm guessing that frequent exposure to steam & water droplets will eventually corrode the MicroUSB port.

Maybe throw it in a ziplock bag? or a Bluetooth speaker thats water resistant?
Check out the i-blason armorbox. Amazon shows black and blue color choices, I thought I saw a white version too the other day

Both ports are fully covered.
What about otterbox? I'm pretty sure they are making the Defender series for the MXPE.

Neither are waterproof if the OP is taking his phone into the shower.
Either put in ziplock or why not just put the phone right outside of the shower on top of the sink, toilet bowl? Unless he's in like a locker room shower or dorm.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm goign to keep looking for another solution, because I'm always stuck between the desire to get drop / water protection that a case provides, and the bulk that the case adds.

Well, to clarify, I don't need water*PROOF*. The phone isn't getting submerged in water, or exposed to direct streams of water. My phone would sit on a ledge / shelf in the shower stall, for purposes of either playing music or videos while I shower. The water danger would be from droplets of water splashing into the micro USB port, and eventually corroding the metal contacts over time.
I'm actually thinking of looking for small rubber Micro USB port covers or plugs, that would simply make it hard for splashed water to get into the phone. I think between that, and the water-resistant coating on the phone, that it would be enough for the level of water exposure I'm looking to protect against.

Just as a follow-up, I ended up getting a bunch of rubber plugs for the Micro USB port. Paid about $1.75 for 25 of these things, and they do the job. It will probably be a pain to keep losing them, but at least it gives me the dust & water protection that I want.

Changing display

My display damaged and i wanna to ask you smth guys.
How difficulty is it to change it by myself?
I watch this video "
" and i concluded its pretty easy to change it. But the only tool i dont have is the heatgun the other tools i can buy.
Tell me your opinion. Is it easy to do?
Can't tell if it's easy, but in other situations that I needed a heat gun and didn't have one, I used a hair dryer, which is way more common to have at home, or at least easier to borrow from a neighbor or something like that
Watch tear down and repair vids.
If a repair shop will let you watch them do it.
ESD, learn and understand what it is. Discreet components ie the display and mobo are very susceptible to it out of circuit.
Bare minimum protection is a bare wood surface to work on and a relative room humidity of 50% or better. A earth grounded ESD mat and wrist strap is best
Disconnect the battery as soon as possible in the disassembly process. Discharge below 40% if possible before starting.
Have all the drivers, picks, fine precision tweezers, and tools needed. Excellent light and a 2X or so optical visor be nice.
Inspect for additional damage*.
Have a set of OEM seals and now's a good time to replace the battery if it's performance has noticably dropped.
Take pictures disassembling if needed. It must be put back together exactly as it was.
Do Not over torgue screws... less is better.
Be very careful not to damage the ribbon microconnectors.
Take your time, no rush.
*any impact that can break the display or bend the frame can damage the mobo. High G loads or direct impacts can damage chipsets internally, fracture solder joints and internally damaged multilayered mobo PCB internal traces.
I did it three days ago, bc my mix 3 had contact with water.
Its kind of easy to do with a hairdryer and a small plastic tool.
The hardest part is to glue it back together.
(But I have to say my screen didn't work afterwards. The expert in the phone repair store said its maybe a problem on the motherboard)

If the battery isn't promptly removed and especially if it's not immediately powered down the current can cause corrosion and short out circuits. The power section is particularly vulnerable. Try again, inspect mobo and the ribbon connectors for signs of corrosion and moisture. Use bright light and magnification.
Is it completely dry? A good soaking with anhydrous isopropyl will help remove hidden water. Again dry completely afterwards. Getting the underside of BGA chipsets dry is imperative.
The micro connectors tend to trap moisture too.
Careful use of compressed air can be very useful but the key word here is careful. Don't stick a nozzle with 100 psi an inch or two from the mobo! Either use low pressure clean, dry air or back it up for high pressure air.
Use your best judgment... it's a bit of an art.
After you dry it as good as possible let it sit in a warm, dry room with a fan on it. Complete drying may take days without disassembly.
Thank you for the tips! I will try it like you described
The same is true with flooded cars, promptly pulling the battery can limit the damage even save the vehicle.
Be wary on flood damage vehicles for sale now, always check for water lines/marks
Most will suffer impossible electrical problems forever. Brine water always kills...

Question Bad charging port, worth it to take apart and clean?

So I've had this phone for about 6 months. The original cable no longer gets any connection, so I bought a new cable but it only slow charges and there's no data connection on pc.. my pc doesn't even see it.. I tried cleaning it with a tooth brush and I also cut up a plastic bottle to try to scrape out any dust but that didn't make a difference.. I don't really see any dust or dirt anyways.. is it worth trying to take it apart to better clean the connection? I know I'll probably lose any water proofing but that's not an issue for me.. almost $1k for 6 months is kinda ridiculous.. I also noticed there's about a 1 mm gap between the cable connection and the phone, is that normal? I don't know if it was always like that or not. Anyone else have issues charging after only a few months?
You wanna know the best way to clean a charge port. Acetone and a toothbrush.
But if you wanna sell that device Ill buy it from you, but I will give you good advice first, because im not selfish.
I have repaired many OnePlus 9 and Pro phones. the back glass comes off so easy. You dont even have to have the correct tools. Just make you dont heat the back up too much, you can even use a small lighter torch and just use poker cards. theres nothing really behind the back cover that you can tear or rip. No cables or nothing. So if you wanna repair it go for it. The back glass is only like $15.
I will buy the device from you, if you decide otherwise.
