[Q] How To End Tmobile Contract? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Any lawyers out there? (It's a joke)((unless you're a lawyer))
So the other day I moved to a new area. With that came dropped calls, data speeds of 42 KBs(dial up anyone), and the kicker for me getting ATTs network more often then my own. I've been on the phone a lot with CSR's and you guessed it my call was dropped.
So is there an easy way I can extract my call log to prove this? I just want what I paid for and this isn't it. Not a Tbolile hater as I've been with them for over seven years. Just really frustrated with there level of service in my new area.
And to all that follow with:
1) You signed a contract deal with it?
2) Tmobile rocks!
Leave the thread as is!
I for once just need some help(ie extracting call logs)

Are you just trying to terminate the contract, or are you trying to terminate it without paying the fee? I believe it's up to $200 per line... I forgot.
Maybe you can try talking to a customer representative and explain your situation? T-Mobile is very understanding most of the time.

Tmobile for the past six years has done well by me. No problem relating a problem to CSR. Now a huge problem just to get let out of a contract that they are not honoring(ie dropped calls and sloWWWW data speeds). Change in company policy or change in consumer demand?
I think with a merger coming they just don't give a ****.
So if you look at the OP and can help me isolate the call logs let me know
Thanks

Not idiots more like automatons. Hours of costumer care = no ability to provide a signed contract. "Sorry sir we can't email you that signed copy of contract"
Me "Why?"
CSR "We have no ability to email"
Me "Why?"
CSR "You signed your contract in a store we have no record of it"
Me "Why?"
CSR "insert automaton response here"

Lol pathetic..yea most of them are program like that..as if they are getting paid six figures by Tmobile!

If there's a local T-Mobile store, maybe you can go to them and prove the poor service that you're getting. I'm sure you'll get better responses and help with someone who's probably not a robot, lol. Try to have them help you with actually calling customer service and cancelling your contract without fees.
I can't really tell you about the call logs, but maybe you can prove the poor speeds by running speed tests. Be sure to run them at different times to show that it's not your phone, but your lack of service at your new location.
Of course, all of this can only work if there is actually a T-Mobile store really close by.

call tmobile from a landline not your cellphone
ask to be transfered to retention.. explain to them the issues you are having and tell them the phone does not work in your area. By tyhe way you dont need to icolate the call logs there system flags dropped calles for them.. So they can see how many dropped calls u have. Anyways there about the only ones that can let you out of your contract without paying the termintaion fee. Fyi it is possable to get out of your agreement without the termination fee if you can prove that the service they are providing does not work in your area.. THere is a clause for that..

raver thanks for the tip.
I'll try and see what happens. Is retention the same as costumer loyalty? cause those guys have not been that helpful about my issues.
It sucks cause I really like this phone just want a different carrier at this point.

no theres a retention department if u call and talk to cancellations.. there the last line of defense for them to try n keep you as a customer in your case since you dont have service were u live there the only ones that can let you out of your contract without etf..

No dice. Ten minutes on the phone and quote "It says in our terms and agreements that we don't provide coverage in all area so there is no way to release you from contract without ETF's"
Anyone wanna call them and tell them I'm dead?
Anyway thanks for the help and your roms do kick ass.

Just because there's a clause doesn't mean they will honor it..at the end of the day their contract are probably a thousand pages long..so they will find something to screw you over..kinda like college and the stupid fees they bring out of nowherr!
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

At least stupid college fees get you some type of education all this is doing is pissing me off. There Terms and agreements are long and involved(not quite 1000 pages but close).
Actually maybe I did get some education out of this. NEVER sign a contract with a wireless carrier. It will only end up costing me the ETF. On that note let this thread die.

Your SOL regardless of coverage l.. or lack there of
NEW ATT-esque policies. They have your signed contract filed away somewhere
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

ya with the att merger ya u are prob sol... id just pay the etf honestly if u can afford it...

Haha yea just pay the fee and dont deal with wireless carriers again!,good luck!

Almost a month to the day of this post I am out of my tmobile contract. It only took being on the phone with 611 for about an hour every other day. So Fuc? You Tmobile. Sorry had to get that out. I hope the rest of you have an amazing experience with them. RANT OVER

Congrats on getting out of the contract! That was an exception to many rules and someone will probably get spoken to about it. No carrier (to my knowledge) will let you out of your contract without etf because you moved out of their coverage area, by policy. And on top of that, your contract generally includes mandatory arbitration (meaning its very difficult to take them to court, not that doing so would save you money...)
For anyone that may have a problem like this in the future, your best shot is to use your phone while roaming in one area, to make that look like the place you use it the most, more than you do while not roaming (check to make sure your carrier wont charge you roaming before doing this) for a couple of months. This costs your carrier and they will generally terminate your service without fees, or your consent for that matter, or at the very least gives you better ammo when you call. I know tmo and vzw do this, as do most other carriers that allow free domestic roaming.
On a side note, loyalty and retentions are the same department. Loyalty is the name used with customers because its a friendlier term, retentions is used internally because it a is more accurate description since you don't talk to them for being loyal. If you need to talk to them just call 611 and enter your phone number when asked to do so then say you want to cancel service, it'll take you right there (you learn some tricks when you work at a T-Mobile call center... lol)

I'm in there coverage area which was how I was able to get out of contract. Bad tower bad signal and the kicker is I get ATT on MY phone. Service request twice. One trouble ticket and one good CSR. Bamn no more tmobile. I will be keeping the phone though. And they were nice enough to unlock it for me!

Wasn't there a lawsuit sometime ago where they can't force you to stay in a contract if you move to a new location that they don't cover?

VZW Credit for 4G outage

tweeted by RHCP011235
Anyone with a TB outage 3G/4G: dial (800) 922-0204 and put your number in. You will get an automatic credit. And they will text you. RT!
Edit: Actually, it says you have reached a non working number.
Tried to do it. Verizon rep says her system is not working at the moment due to the outage so I would have to call back later. She said its "unknown" if Verizon is going to credit people's accounts for this outage or not.
i called and was just a standard autmation. nothing about the outage or anything out of the norm.
I'm on a biz account and we have 2 LTE devices out of 100+ lines. I have the Bolt and a Samsung Mifi (replacing an embedded 5720 in my laptop...can't wait for embedded LTE cards!)
I emailed my rep this morning about if they're going to do credits for LTE customers. He emails me back "since you guys are on the $20 unlimited data plan per line do you really want the 66 cents back for each of the two lines?"
I just can't be that much of a jerk.
I just recieved $3.00 credit on my $29.99 data plan......that is very fair......
She credited it to my account right away...I now have a balance of -$3.00 lol
it will show up on my next statement...
call 800-922-0204 and ask for your credit.
I dialed the number and received the standard automated greeting.
I pressed '2' just to see what would happen.
I received an automated response that a $4 credit was being applied to my account. <shrug> No directions on how to do it, but I got the credit, and received the text stating the same.
I just called and had to get a rep. I was offered a $1.00 credit! Whoopee Doo!
I just told them to keep it and it will remind me about switching to AT&T the next time.
Oh boy! An entire $1 credit!
You people are pathetic.
Nice! Thank you for the info! I just got a large credit (I have a few data plans on my account)
For some odd, really odd reason, the automated message said the credit was for $325, and it will be on my next statement. This HAS to he an error. But if it works, I'm gonna use those saving towards a TB for the wife.

And they really don't care, go to AT&T, go get your speeds capped because you don't have an iPhone. Go get a "4G" AT&T device and not even be able to use it because they don't even have the network up yet. Go to AT&T so none of us have to read idiotic posts like your's in this forum anymore.
You pay $30 a month for unlimited 4g... it was out for a day... 30 days in a month... based upon your dumb statement, i'm going to guess you can't do the math correctly, so i'll just tell you that it equates to about $1.00 a day. Make sense now?
Not bad I received 5 dollars credit for 1 and a half outage.

I didn't want their $1.00 .... It's the principal with things they do.
A friend is also on the EXACT same plan and he got a $3.00 credit. So why do I get offered $1.00? One of our other corporate phone went 3 text messages over, and we got like a 30 cent charge.... so if they were offering $3.00 why not take it. If everyone asked for the $1. it would mean a lot more to them and maybe they would have a backup system. Hard to believe whatever failure they had took down the network for the entire country.
If idiots like you didn't take posts so literally maybe we'd be better off also!

Ugh... if that corporate phone went over the texting limit then of course he's going to get charged 10 cents for every text. It's in the goddamn contract.
Either way, a $1 or $3 is all they owe you. Why did you think you'd get more than that? What do you mean "the principal of the things they do?" VZW has some of the best customer service out of any of the providers. They've bent over backwards numerous times for me.
And it's new technology. 4G LTE has been up for what? A little more than a month? Of course there's going to be kinks to work out. Get a grip you idiot.

ooooh $3.00... That $2.00 really set you off didn't it?
They offered you $1.00 and you gave them a smart ass remark, you are telling me if they told you $3.00, that would have said thank you and been happy
You went over the txt msg limit and got charged extra, you signed a contract stating so. Nowhere in the contract for VZW does it say "if 4G goes down we will reimburse you "x" amount of dollars".

!!! WARNING About Straight Talk !!!! STAY AWAY!!!

i switched from tmo to straight talk last nite. i thought i was going to be happy. i was Mod Edit DEAD WRONG! 1st, i bought a $45 unlimited calling card. the calls were staticy. and on my first 7 calls, 3 calls were dropped in mid call. i called ST to complain. and of course,Mod Edit i wanted my refund back. they said theres no refund. i was furious. so now i'm Mod Edit stuck with this godamn ST for a month. at the end of the month i'm gonna get a $50 unlimited calling card from tmo. yes, i'm going back to shake hands with the devil.
all this time i thought i was using at&t towers for ST service. again, i was wrong. at&t doesnt drop calls or give static. i dont know why ST says they use at&t towers. on top of the $45, i now have to pay $50 to get a calling card from tmo.. not only that, i still owe tmo $70 from the prior month. straight talk is the WORST carrier in the market now!
i share this with all of you to show you how Mod Edit up this company is. dont be a sucker... DO NOT GET INTO STRAIGHT TALK. if you do, youll regret it BIG TIME!!!
thanks everyone
What exactly did you expect? You get what you pay for.
I have used straight talk before, for quite some time actually before just recently switching to sprint. I never experienced any of the issues you are talking about. Actually, I had ZERO problems while using straight talk. It all depends on where your located. Some areas get better service, some dont, thats just how it is.
Almost any support center you call these days are located overseas, its just how this country is becoming. Straight talk offers a great affordable service for cheap which is almost unmatched by other companies.
When you pay 40 dollars a month for unlimited everything, its fair to assume you are going to get only a standard ammount of customer service. you get what you pay for. I dont think you will find yourself ever happy with any cellular service with the attitude you are currently presenting.
Im very happy.
i have to say that i have used ATT and straight talk. ON straight talk now, and love it! Exactly the same service and speeds i had with ATT. i'm using the E71 sim in a Inspire 4G. Only 49 bucks a month including taxes, surcharges, etc. Saving over 900 dollars a year with my wife and I!
Yes, i get/send mms too.
FYI, if you are in a rural area you may not like Straight talk. Some areas just don't have the coverage. I am in central FL, but have used all through Florida, Georgia, ALabama.

i seriously dont think you got better service than tmo or at&t. and i do very much think you got the problems that i got - just my personal opinion. but i do agree that it depends on your location. BUT i'm ni nyc.. and this is supposed to be one of the best spots on earth with no problems. plus, ST claims they use at&t towers. if thats true (which i highly doubt given this evidence), my calls should be perfect without any problems.

support centers is not the point.. the point is to hardly call any support center if the service is so good without problems. and ST DOES NOT offer great service. it may be cheap (as is this case for the obvious wrong reasons), but its not great service by any stretch. if it were, i and others wouldnt be complaining. as much as i hate tmo, i must say that calls on tmo are WAY clearer WITH NO drops in calls.

Really man? Ok I understand your upset about it but, The swearing is not allowed and you know this. Second just because someone else got better results dosnt make them wrong or lying. I really hate to tell you but I have gotten better signal outside the city then I ever have while standing in Time Square.
Now for your last comment. If you want to complain about a service provider then do it n their site, Wanna give people a heads up on your personal results, then cool but you WILL do it in a respectful and informative manner.

Has anyone canceled the at&t contract before its date?

I had at&t for almost year and half now, and the service that I've had was just awful.
I will never recommend for this crap for anyone.
so heres my question, is there anyway i can cancel without paying penalties?
we do not get any reception at house, and I talked to the customer service and they told me its prob my house. something is interfering with signals since there are more than few towers around my house
i believed them for a long time, but yesterday i found out even outside(20feets away from the house) atnt phones did not get any signal while my friends verizon was getting full signals. I already took photos of that and Im thinking about showing this to our house community since at&t is the only DSL service that we got in the area.
anyway so i called them back recently and told them its not only working inside but also outside. now service Representative is telling me that they do not guaranteed inside or outside signals.
Does anyone have any clues to stop this madness?
I am happy with my cappy, but not with the service that comes with this amazing phone.

Why has it taken you a year and a half to figure out that you don't get cell service at your house or in your yard???
Unless I'm completely off base, I believe that as part of your agreement with AT&T, they say that they will provide cellular phone service in exchange for a monthly fee from you. As it appears that they are not holding up their end of the bargain, I would suggest calling back (being polite, but firm) and explaining your situation and dissatisfaction with what is happening. If one call doesn't fix it, call again later. I've had experiences where different reps will be more willing to help you than others.
Just remember to be nice - you want the person on the other end of the line to be on the same side as you are.

I didn't say it took an year and a half to figure out I have ****ty service. I found out as soon as I got it, but they will tell me that they can't do **** about it ever since i called them.
In fact, they do have "notes" to verify that I called them at least 10 times for bad signal but not willing to solve the prob.
they did offer me a micro tower for a half price, but I have no faith left in at&t no more.
If you have had them for a year and a half why not wait out your contract instead of paying their fees? ATT like to get their money no matter what. I dont think there is a way to get away from them without paying the contract cancellation fee which is insane anymore.
customer reps
Before calling them - try local AT&T wireless shop. People there can quickly check their coverage map, or may be fix your phone etc.
Try to find different support phones. I've been in like situation. Try regional, local and main office phones. Try email support or facebook support. Always send the pictures, or fax them. And firmly ask for cancellation of service or Microcell unit.
Your best bet is find someone to take over your contract that's the simplest way to do so...
If you find yourself fighting fees, you can take it one of two ways IMO, keep arguing that it is a dead zone, and that they should update their coverage verification system. That could get you nothing, or a discount, or even all the ETF fees. But in order for that to happen you will have to escalate your call to a supervisor... nicely, don't agree to any terms a regular rep unless your satisfied. Keep in mind that you may not even get to speak with a supervisor directly but the rep should inform you if you do so. And this is counting on good customer service...

There is a way to get out of your Contract early . You need to go on the AT&Twebsiteand look at the map that shows the areas that they provide service and find a place that they do not cover, that is, somewhere they do not provide service. Find a town within that area of no coverage and t ell them you are moving there, you may have to provide a zip code and area code. They asked me for both and I told them both and said I only had a P.O. Box because the place was so rural there was no home delivery. They, AT&T, have to release you from the contract if you move to an area that they can no longer provide you with service. You will even get your deposit back if you had to put one down when you signed up. If there is any outstanding bill when you do this they will use your deposit to pay the balance due and send you a check for the remainder of the deposit. I did this exact thing a couple months ago with no problem. The hardest thing was finding a no service area that is habitable and believable that you want to live there.

Solavei - Cool new service provider that pays you money!

Stop paying ridiculous amounts of money for your cell phone bill ! Solavei is the most unique and amazing wireless phone service provider out there. How would you like to pay only $49/month for service with unlimited minutes, texting, and data(4G limited to 4gb, which is fine for someone like me who can't hardly use 2gb in one month:silly ??
But it gets better.... When you sign up your friends & family, Solavei will pay you money every month that they stay with the service as well as a few other options to earn yourself some extra cash for doing almost nothing but spreading the word about Solavei.
There is a deal going right now when you sign up before December 31st, you get the first month of service for free. Go check it out you won't regret it.

Sorry that you think I am spamming the forum. If weren't interested you wouldn't have come to my thread in the first place. I own a Mytouch 4g slide, so I thought it appropriate to share [in General] with fellow users of the same phone a great new opportunity. If I was "spamming" the forum there would be more than just one thread on the topic. I don't come to XDA to see other user's noob question threads that have already been answered in the stickies, but I don't complain about it.
If you have a question or a comment that is on topic that would be appreciated. thanks

Why the f. would I want to pay more for a lesser and so restricted/limited service?
Someobody pls delete this thread. Obviously it is advertising crap/spam.

It is not so restricted/limited as you say. And if you think there is any provider that ACTUALLY gives you unlimited data then you have obviously not read your own contract agreement.
But you missed a whole point of my post. The company will pay you money past the point where it cancels out your phone bill (free service). I don't know what is so hard to understand about this concept. I am just here discussing a service I have recently switched over to, and everyone wants to call it spam... good grief..........................

Your intentions are good, but this deal is not.
Essentially it's like all those different offers where they say get a PS3 or Wii, or gift card to any store you want for free!
All you have to do is sign up for 5 offers, complete them and get 5 friends to do the same. Essentially they are using a referral program to get more customers and they're using you for all the legwork. Not exactly a contract, but not exactly a no strings attached deal either.
I bet if anyone decides to cancel, referral person's bonus goes away. And all the people who just signed up have to find their own referrals to get the same bonus as the first guy. Think of it like a pyramid, with your forum thread being the very tip.
You're expanding their business for them and trying to find them all these new customers for $50/trio of people? I say THEY got a good deal.
I've seen many regional carriers offer similar deals. This is nothing out of the ordinary. Check out cricket, boost mobile, and virgin mobile if you don't believe me. Metro PCS too

[Q] My rant towards T-Mobile! Any suggestions?

Well, this is my 6th G2X from T-Mobile. I kept sending it back under warranty and receiving a refurbished phone that ended up giving me the same problems (I'm assuming if it SEEMS fine they just brand it refurbished and send it back out to save $$$). Of course, it's giving me all sorts of problems again but it's no longer under the t-mobile warranty (90 days for a refurbished phone is kind of ****ing stupid). It's less than a year old so it SHOULD be covered by LG.. The only problem is the IMEI of the phone says it's older than a year (because someone else had it before me) so they won't fix it unless I provide some PHYSICAL proof of purchase that has the date received and IMEI on it.
Here's the part that is driving me insane:
I call T-mobile and they say "Sure! Here's an order ID, just give that to LG and it will work. Don't worry". Even after questioning them multiple times they sounded very confident. I called LG and nope, nothing they can do with that so I call T-Mobile again and she tells me "just give them your IMEI, when they look it up it will have all that information". Again, she reassured me even after I asked over and over if she was sure so I called LG and they told me there's no such information and even though I argued and argued they wouldn't budge. So.. I call T-Mobile AGAIN and they tell me they will send out a receipt with all the information I need and they're so so sorry. I wait a week and nothing so I call back again and they don't even have a memo of what the CS said he would do and then told me there's no way they can help me. He then told me they would give me an early upgrade which was complete bull**** because the "upgrade" they offered was already available for me online. It's not a true upgrade, more like a 20% discount off a full price phone.
I'm at my wits end. I got this phone because of the hype and all that and now I have a phone that is technically under warranty but there's not a damn thing I can do about it. I've heard stories of people e-mailing the executives and getting stuff handled that way.. Would that be an option for me?
Keep badgering tmo about this, try and talk to a higher rank person each time.
Don't let them take advantage of you.

The people I talked to were actually part of that department. I always say "retention" when the automated voice asks what I want and it sends me there. I guess I'll just keep calling them and maybe even ask to speak to a supervisor. Do you guys have any idea what I should ask for specifically? I've heard of some people getting entirely free phones because of crazy situations but I don't want to flat out ask for one

I've dealt with T-Mobile retention more than I care to discuss, normally they'll find some way to reel me back in.
Has your relationship with T-Mobile lasted longer than 2 years? (Have you renewed a contract previously)
I ask because most (all?) cell providers in the US will not direct you to an actual Retention Rep until your account has aged beyond 1 contract term, instead you are re-directed to the escalation unit of the sales dept and they generally don't do anything useful.
Under the assumption that you have had your contract longer than 2 years, it sometimes helps to have inside information on how the retention process works in order to "sway" the rep into getting what you need. I've worked in a contact center for 2 major carriers and what's important is a rep's "Stats". For the retention dept the biggest ones are retention rate and 7 day repeat calls. Retention rate for T-Mobile is now different because of their new rate plan/phone structure and is likely irrelevant. However 7 day repeat calls are generally the basis for any rep to be judged on.
Speak to the rep in the most pleasant manner you can, and put the responsibility on them to help you find a resolution to your problem. Literally ask for their help, and ask realistic solutions to your issue. These are normally BS script replies, but it's all a game anyway. Next tell them what you want, and be firm (but still nice) about it. Let them know you have every intention of calling and speaking with as many people as required in order to resolve this concern, as you believe T-Mobile as your "service" provider should be responsible for your satisfaction. Be clear that you are not asking for the latest and greatest super phone, but it does need to function in the manner in which you were informed it would. This is a frustrating issue and you've wasted enough time trying to get some sort of result, and will continue searching for a resolution over the next couple of days if required. ** Retention Reps get a bonus based on the fact that their customer's wont be calling back and random surveys that are sent out **
While I wouldn't recommend leveraging the surveys as a negotiation point or even the fact that you know about their metrics, simply let them know your intention. Mention the fact you've already called several times already, and are becoming frustrated.
Asking for a manager in this situation often leads no where, management does not have stats (their bonus is based on their reps) and does not have their calls recorded or monitored by quality. It's much more difficult for a rep to say "no" then it will be for their manager.
If none of that works, you might just be SOL. I really hate to say it, but they aren't obligated to do anything about it (which is more BS in your case). Just do what you can, be nice, and hope for the best. I know when I was on the phones, if someone asked be for something with an attitude they didn't get anything in return for it.

I've been a customer since 07'. It was originally a flexpay account and then about 1 3/4 years ago I upgraded to the regular contract.
I'm not sure how far I should try and push them because I've heard stories from a friend who had problems and they sent her a new smartphone (When the Galaxy SII was big). I just got off the phone with the retention guy and he gave me this offer: upgrade to the new "value plan" that's not a contract and he would waive the $50 fee (I am eligible on 4/5, and it would be free then) however I would have to pay ~$250 for a Samsung Galaxy SII. Does that sound fair? Or should I hold out for a better offer, because when I told him I would just call back again later to resolve this and I appreciated his help he said "Well, hold on, how about I waive the fee and try and get you with a new phone today?"?

Keep track of names, dates, times called, use that information to ding previous agent, than next agent knows you'll do same to them
It may take a couple cycles of this but you'll find someone that after enough callbacks, will offer you a good deal.
Everyone's experience is different, also, when you get Akmhad the Indian on the line and he says his name is Dave, politely state that you cannot understand their accent and requested a native english speaker or to be transferred to another agent cause you can't understand, and hopefully that will dump you back in queue and get you into an American call center, this is how I've done it, and I find the girls with a.southern usa accent are the easy ones to work on to get what you want.
