Anyone still on 2.1 is officially obsolete. Google has released a ton of new features for froyo and gingerbread users. Including google instant, new gmail app, and other things.
Which leaves 2.1 users with old software never to be upgraded again.
I still haven't flashed (due to warranty issues) but even if I did I would be upset because it still is based on buggy pre-release software.
Based on the epic 4g leak the froyo should be version 2.2.1 so new roms would be 2.2.1 instead of buggy 2.2
Why doesn't samsung care about their customers!
Yea, I share your sentiments. I tried most of the 2.2 leak ROMs, but most had troubles. The list of apps that don't work on 2.1 and below is growing. I wonder if Google Maps 5 will be the same way.
I really thinking about just buying an unlocked nexus s but then i realize its still samsung!!!
I returned a samsung tv i bought for my family for christmas because they suck so much ;D
The more I read about this (and the GPS malfunction), the more I think that when my Captivate arrives tomorrow I may just take it into an AT$T store and demand a refund and contract cancellation.
What we need is a Samsung Customer Service number we can start calling to voice our opinions. Any have a good Samsung number for this or a similar purpose?
Yes more than half of android devices are "obsolete"...
Return it? Because your too lazy to flash your phone with functional software instead of the junk Samsung and att gave us? I've been rocking the beta cm 6.1 for quite awhile and blows the doors off any 2.1 variant that was out there.....and as far as voiding your warranty its almost impossible to brick these phones so its completely easy to flash back to an out of the box state. So quit whining. This is what makes android so great. Take a phone with amazing hardware with crappy software and put amazing software on it

For one, I'm not lazy or whining. I shouldn't have to flash my phone to get basic functionality out of it. The GPS should work without my having to invest in searching through a myriad of unauthorized solutions and risk not only voiding my warranty, but bricking my phone. If I wanted to put this much effort into making a phone work I would have stuck with WinMo 6.5 and my Tilt 2, which I know inside and out already. I moved to Android hoping I'd no longer have to spend so much time dicking around with my phone just to get things to work. You know, the whole "Droid Does" marketing ploy? The main reason I agreed to buy this phone was because I read on several different sites where Samsung said they were definitely going to update it to Froyo. I understand that their timetable may be off, but they should at least keep their promise. Is that too much to ask or expect?
Samsung promised Froyo by the end of the year for the US Market. They still have a 20 days. Their stance has not changed, so I don't see what anyone has to complain about.
As for GPS mine works as good as the one on my Bravo - my Tracks, Turn by Turn are the same. If your GPS has problems, take it back. If you try multiple phones and still have a problem, then make them switch you to another phone.
everyone knows they won't make the end of december date
It's not that I don't want to try custom ROMs. However, all the custom ROMs are built on leaked (and often buggy) Froyo ROMs. The sooner AT&T releases an official release Froyo ROM, the sooner we can get a stable (or more stable) custom Froyo ROM....hopefully they release the source code too. There's code in the custom ROMs that comes from all sorts of other ROMs lol
Ditto^^^ Well, according to Mr. Smalls, we're just lazy, whiny jerks with no valid excuse for not wanting to use a custom ROM on our phones.

Am I correct that you don't even have your device as you're typing that?! Try it first..a lot of the stuff you read isn't what you will experience. I.E.: my gps has worked a charm since I picked mine up in mid October..it's an excellent device. I've had a Samsung DLP for more than 2 years and it works flawlessly. People like to rant..find out for yourself for chrissake. It's nice to be happy with a cell device for the first time in awhile for me..only complaint is att dragging heels on 2.2. I'm too busy and old (55) to have the energy to do all that stuff that many do..but it's also nice to know that if I get tired of waiting and get a wild hair, I'll root and flash when I'm good and ready. Meantime I think the Captivate is a great companion
From what I've heard, I think that it might be the carriers that are delaying the update. Don't know if this is true or not but I kinda doubt this is Samsung's fault.
@fldude, Thanks for the encouragement. I used to love fiddling with my WinMo phones and I enjoyed modding my Tilt 2 to where it runs great and does (almost) all I ask of it. I'd still be using it if WinMo wasn't a dead platform and the thing wasn't so laggy. That saidI was hoping the switch to Android would mean I finallly would have a phone that I could tinker with if I wanted to, but didn't HAVE to, like WinMo. I guess reading through these forums exposes one mostly to the negative since most people only post when having problems. I brushed most of it aside, but the GPS issue really stood out because I use GPS-enabled apps a lot and it works so well on my Tilt 2. I can't wait for the Cap to get here tomorrow so I can start playing with it. Thanks to running XDAndroid on my Tilt 2 I already have some idea of what to expect and how to use it.
I will say this, reading about rooting and flashing of Android, kernel this and apk that is a lot more intimidating than working with WinMo. I never hesitated to edit my registry, but modding Android sounds pretty scary.
By the way, does fl mean you're a fellow H-D rider?

Also Frustrated
I have been following the forums regarding the so called Froyo release and I have to say that I am rather frustrated as well. I actually called AT&T last week to complain about the delay with Froyo with Gingerbread's release within a few weeks. Not to mention Honeycomb on the horizon.
In speaking with one of the techs he also shared his frustrations and was hoping that it would be released in early January. I told him that it was understood that it would be release at the end of the year and he confirmed that same understanding. However his sources revealed that it is now for early January. Let's hope this is true, but as you all know we have been given so many empty promises.
Furthermore,I read an article that Samsung is undecided whether to release Gingerbread for the Galaxy devices. For a product that has been so popular and successful, what are they thinking? Or maybe they are not!!
Either way my fingers and toes are crossed for Froyo for now...
Samsung posted this updated installation guide on their website this morning. IMHO if it's going to happen in December it's going to be this week. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I897
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...2349485/ATT_I897_Captivate_Kiesmini_Guide.pdf
I think they just added the instructions for recovery mode. Seeing as how "Some of" the Canadian Vibrants are reporting corrupt storage issues after trying to upgrade via kies mini.
With all of the gingerbread action in the past week, I don't know why anyone would even bat an eye at an official froyo release. If you aren't running a 2.2 rom based on the leaked versions yet, you are severely limiting the speed and "snappiness" of your device. In short, while you guys wait for Sammy to roll out their "official" 2.2 update, we'll be running GB.

JH7 w/ Voodoo is faster than any ROM based on a leaked Froyo build (from my experiences). I haven't tried the i9000 based ROMs however.

I too use my phone for work. And I also cannot have any "hiccups". I can be without it long enough to flash a ROM and then re-setup the stuff I need. That process takes less than 30 minutes nowadays.
If you stick to a true Cappy ROM (not an i9000-based one), then you won't experience hiccups...at least I don't. Battery life is a slight issue, but really, when are completely without the means to charge up some?
I've flashed maybe half a dozen times since I can't afford a bricked phone. I'm picky about flashing. But I'm also very picky about having a phone that is quite impressive hardware-wise, but almost completely crippled by the lackluster software. While Froyo isn't the most awesome thing ever, it is a major improvement over Eclair.

I used to flash quite often.. But it got to be a hassle restoring game saves... Contacts (then re-linking then to my Facebook contacts)... yada yada... It takes up more tme than one would think.
And like its been said. A stable release from Samsung means a stable release for the devs.
Though Im not gonna think twice about flashing 2.3... Can't wait for a working version.

thats understandable but i would say in my experience there are less hiccups with most custom 2.2 roms than there are with either stock 2.1 rom.
Not to mention on the business front Exchange is much more stable and functional for me on the 2.2 roms vs. 2.1 stock.
Axura, Assonance, Chronos all very stable.
I thought the hold up was the carriers on the update. But I think Samsung has been really slow in the release of 2.2. Samsung not AT&T has been the problem all along. Don't you think one of the carriers would have tried to be the first to have their device on 2.2 to sale through the holidays.
more speculation here, but I suspect there has been some back and forth between samsung and att. Like att put it through their testing procees. (we know it is pretty extensive) and asked for a change or two. 'caus I'm pretty convinced that samsung just checks that the phone powers up and gets signal with no care as to the quality of signals it is receiving... I am certainly intrigued to see what they come out with after "working" on it for so long.

The carriers don't care that much... OS version as a selling point matters ZERO to most users unless it brings some major feature. Most feature improvements are minor and don't affect most users - they are not hackers or flashers. For every one person visiting phone Forums, there are 10 others that own the phone and just use it.
2.2 has been out for Galaxy S and Armani - so it is really done for the hardware - we haven't seen any Froyo leaks in a while either - the hold up is the carriers - Samsung was probably late getting it to them, and now they have to give it their blessing.
The Vibrant Froyo was released recently but pulled as it corrupted internal storage. So T-Mo was first, and i guess AT&T will be second.
I also think this updated doc is relevant to the Froyo release - we didn't see this doc with the previous Kies Mini update and there was no Emergency recovery option - they are definitely getting ready to push something new.

No...certainly not AT&T...they always push the I-phone harder than their Android phones...Can't say for any others selling Galaxy phones though..
Seriously...I use my phone for my work and business as well, and there are quite a few stable 2.2 roms out to use.Hiccups...are always possible...but most times..it's because of a bad install that causes more headaches than anything else..or something left over on the system too. No way in hell would I wait on either Samsung or AT&T for another bloat filled update. Not to mention...all of the bricked phones that happened with Kies last time around...Your much safer getting your upgrade longing filled here..than any OTA update....at least if you get it from here you will get help fixing it...Good luck doing that with AT&T or Samsung...you'll be out a phone for a few days or weeks..

Samsung knows exactly how long carriers need to validate and test the firmware. If they intent to release the Froyo on schedule, they should have pushed the update earlier. After all, carriers test updates from all manufacturers like Motorola and HTC, not just Samsung. If Motorola and HTC can release Froyo, and subsequent patches, in time for their phones, there is no reason Samsung can't if it is capable of.
This just tells you how somethings never change when it comes to firmware update from Samsung.

Ya I heard the TB was getting it June 30th so I would assume roughly a month later for the Charge but I also heard that they were going to just skip giving the Charge GB and go straight to ICS, that's one thing I hate about these cell phone companies, they never give us definite release dates on anything, it's always leak this, rumor that...
Where'd you hear that the Charge would be getting ICS straight from Froyo? It'd be great to get it soon, but I doubt this will be the first phone to get it by any means, and I'm sure they'll have Gingerbread ready before ICS comes out.
Anyway, this is awesome. I knew Samsung was working on Gingerbread, and its already out for the other SGS phones, so it can't be that long. But I'm wondering if TBH got it on there themselves, or if they were able to procure a pre-release build leak. I'm thinking the latter because of the apparently stock ROM otherwise, but then again maybe that was the most stable way to do it.
Its from P3Droid and Team Black Hat, so for those saying its fake, its not. This is great though, apparently that thread worked and they're showing some real interest in this device. With Gingerbread right around the corner, it'd be great to have CM7 to look forward to! Can't wait to see this get out in some build we can use...

Nononono I was reading somewhere, I think it was an Android Forum, they were talking about the Charge not getting Gingerbread and just going Froyo > Icecream, I'm not saying it was going to get it first I meant it wouldn't be getting Gingerbread, it's not confirmed information at all but Gingerbread isn't confirmed either so that's why I'm a bit skeptical
I can't wait to get Netflix to work.
Anyone get Netflix to work on 2.2.1 EE4?
I have read several forums where people have been told by Verizon and/or Samsung reps. that they are not working on gb for the Charge and that they plan to just skip to ICS...although this info is probably coming from some tech support guy in India who can hardly speak English so who knows. I'm just happy to see that SOMEONE is working on getting this thing up-to-date, even if it isn't the corporations that should have released it with 2.3 in the first place...
Well we have a gb leak so they must have been working on it.

Wrong it is in fact and actual GB build for the Charge. I did not see that actual device in the video but I have in fact seen the file and watched it be flashed to a Charge. Its coming just a matter of when the release hits. Word I've gotten is hopefully around Aug time frame.

Completely inaccurate. ICS is not even going to be ready for til 4th Qtr to start with. And as for GB it will for sure be coming to the Charge and in the not to distant future like I just stated.
Not sure why anyone would think that the release of Gingerbread on the Charge will somehow fall into some kind of lockstep timing schedule (30 days after) with the Thunderbolt, when the Thunderbolt is an HTC device and the Charge is Samsung. Two different companies, two different set of internal developers, two different business models etc, etc.
We might get GB next week, or next year, or never, I don't know, but I do know that the release of GB on the TB has nothing to do with the release of GB on the Charge.
Sad that GB is over a year old now, and we're still getting Froyo on the "top of the line" devices and still stressing over when, if ever, we'll get it on three month old devices.
I doubt that any vendors besides the one creating the next Nexus phone has ics. It's nearly half a year away from announcement. Anyways, P3Droid is completely legit. He released gingerbread for the fascinate last week. He ran a video much like that one and people said that he was running froyo and being skeptical. I was running that gb build on my fascinate until I broke it and purchased a charge. If he says he has it, he has it. He apparently has a leaker and I thank God that he does.

The Charge had a GB leak. That is how TBH got a hold of it. I'm thinking other Devs could possibly get a hold of this leak if you know where to look....
But anyway, When I had my DX, TBH was the first to publish a ROM with the leaked GB kernel. They know what they are doing for sure.
I recommend following P3Droid on Twitter. He ususally drops info on a daily basis that I find very interesting. He mentioned weeks ago running netflix on the Charge via Twitter.
Seriously, who's in charge of the stock theming for our Charges? Who's decision was it to release a good phone on the market with a POOP BROWN COLOR SCHEME?! They should be fired!
And why does the battery life SUCK on this phone?! Why is it that we have to painstakingly calibrate the battery ourselves just to squeeze a days worth out of it? Samsung, I know you're trying to keep the costs down, but would it kill you to put a Li-Po battery in here or something?
Why does my 4G randomly drop to 3G, and then to 1X? Granted, somehow I've been seeing a lot less of this lately, but why did you let it happen in the first place?! Come on, that didn't happen to you ONCE during beta testing, Sammy?
Who's the joker who put so little ram into this phone? I bet when they designed it they were like "oh, this is going to screw so many people lol..."
And while I'm at it, I hate noobs. They don't even ATTEMPT to either look through the stickies or use the search.
Other than that, I am truly happy with this phone. I made the right decision when I upgraded.

3. I have rock solid 4G, very rarely does it go to 3G here in town. During testing I am sure they have their own tower they are sitting next to,
I love this phone but I too cannot stand the brown/orange theme. Is there any way to change it?
Regarding all android smartphones:
1. What happened to having dedicated Dial and End keys on our *phones*? I'd use that a lot more than a search key.
2. Why can't we get good voice control that just works! My old flip phone did this better.
3. How hard would it be to make data connections work on demand? Take it a step further than juice defender (which doesn't work on our phone anyway). Let us control what apps access the network and when. In the meantime, stop waisting precious battery life keeping data connected "just in case".
4. Build in working app + data backup already. The average user shouldn't have to worry about rooting just for this. Plus they wouldn't lose angry birds progress every time a verizon rep asks them to factory reset. ;-)

OK, I'll join the rant....The dogs**t brown theme and the battery life are both items I can deal with. I just squint and buy extra batteries but the fact that my data connection is so dodgy drives me crazy! I am constantly getting "network error" msgs or just suddenly from solid 4G to absolutely no data without moving, watching everyone around me breezing along on the web. The fact that I can find myself in the center of Los Angeles and have no 4G, no 3G, no 1x, no data period is so pitiful.
Okay, I feel a little better.....
bn
No issues with any of that. Gummycharged GBE FTW!
(Ok, I do miss a notification LED)
Where the ****s the notification LED, they couldn't even put it on the dam galaxy S2! Let's hope the U.S. versions get it right.
I'll admit, the colors on TW3 suck some ween(well, TW3 in general sucks some ween) but apparently the brighter colors consume more battery because of the SA+ screen.
Battery life is alright.... IF YOU CALIBRATE & UNDERCLOCK. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THAT! Still better then the 4 hour battery life on my enV Touch, and that wasn't even a smartphone.
FROYO? REALLY? FROYO? COME ON, IT'S A DAM $300 PHONE.
I DONT LIKE THE PUZZLE UNLOCK SCREEN. It doesn't show the battery % and I can't switch to silent from the same screen like AOSP, and why the hell does it need to say Verizon Wireless ON THE DAM LOCK SCREEN!? I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FLASH SO MUCH **** JUST TO MAKE THIS PHONE GOOD.
Come on 4g, what the hell. I'm in a full 5 bar area and it still feels the need to drop to 3g. It's always happening when I'm browsing the web too, not when the phone is sleeping where 4g data wouldn't be necessary but when I'm ACTUALLY USING THE PHONE. 4G IS ****ING WITH ME.
and finally..... WHERE THE **** IS TW4. If this phone releases GB + TW4 + source then this phone will be ABSOLUTELY ****IN' FANTASTIC. It's funny, even with all the flaws this phone is still awesome. It would have been perfect if they just added/fixed the above things from the start. You're right, it does feel good to vent.

I actually had a lot of issues with GBE. Switched back to Froyo. But seriously, for a $600 phone I think they should be rolling out the updates. Also, give us the source code, dammit!

Every other 199 phone is getting or has gotten GB and for us that have paid premium 299 for this phone and no GB? That's just crazy, we should send a email to Verizon or Samsung with complaints about this and have everyone here in the forum sign or put their emails in. Lets get gingerbread now

coming from a Fascinate that took months to get a froyo leak then more months to even get an official froyo OTA, I'm not holding my breath for any kind of update or source release for the Charge either... although as always many thanks to the devs and themers who made the Fassy amazing despite the lack of official support

Exactly my point, we "the devs" should not be working hard to make this a fast phone or better/smoother it should already be that way out of the box or with upgrades after paying premium for this phone. Remember it's not 199 like all other phones, it is 299 one hundred more than the rest of all other phones from any carriers out there. That is really upsetting. I had the droid inc 2 (199 with 50 mail in rebate, so really 150)for one week before I got the charge and it was a great little phone with the best battery life i have ever had plus it had been upgraded to gingerbread already (thinking about switching back to it). The Droid X, X2, droid 3, are all 199 and running the latest, but we paid 299 for lte and samoled screen but got stuck with froyo. That is really upsetting. I always read how samsung was really bad with updates but I thought this was one of their flagship phones so maybe it would get the upgrades but guess I was wrong, I'm sure it will come but way after everyone else.
ps: im not a dev just to clear up my first sentence, we as in customer
No issues with my phone after rooting and flashing what I want. Today I was losing only 2% battery per hour! I made 2 phone calls and texted a bunch. They do need to get us to GB quick and I wish it was a dual core phone. I'll be getting the Nexus 3 as soon as that comes out and this will be on eBay.

The (large) majority of smartphone users use their phones more for messaging and web usage than for voice calls. You're in a shrinking minority and it's simply in companies' best interests to cater to the majority of their users.
Its hard for me to relate here. I bought this phone because it is currently the easiest 4G LTE phone to customize. I never planned on keeping stock TW, and will never put it back on my phone, unless I sell it.
I could care less what samsung is doing, because we have plenty of great developers, that are doing way better.
I recommend anyone that hates the stock samsung experience flash a custom rom. You'll be a lot happier with this phone.

We all have custom roms here. Yes, our devs are great, but our roms could be so much better if we had source and official support. Yes, this is the current flagship 4G LTE phone, but it lacks common features of lesser phones!

Well the Galaxy S line were samsung's flagship devices last year when they came out and it still took months and months even for official froyo (especially for the Fascinate) so just because the Charge is the latest and greatest from samsung (on verizon anyway) doesn't mean it'll get a ton of support out of the gate unfortunately... I know that 2.2 froyo was a huge improvement over 2.1 eclair so perhaps thats why it took so long, however 2.2 to gingerbread is not a major OS overhaul so hopefully that means we won't have to wait as long for 2.3 GB. I'd give it probably till the end of the year before we have GB and up to date source code.

I see what you are saying but at the same time if what you say here, by the end of the year we should have GB and source, is true then we will still not be up to date because ice cream sandwich will be out and we will still be playing catching up with os. I guess it's all part of sells, just make phones and market well and move on....ahh why did i fall in love with android lol
So T-Mobile finalized the crappy update no new kernel, ****ty camera, and tons of people still have problems. So that means they didnt pull it nor are they fixing it ;( how do u guys feel about this? Total joke rite.... and if u really think about this and this is probably the only time u will ever hear this, froyo on are phone was way better!!! In alot of ways, crazy rite, gb for are phone was a downgrade not an upgrade!!! T-Mobile u dooshbags! Smh a year and a half old os (froyo) blows gb away on our phones....yea T-Mobile definitely dropped the ball on this gb update, haha and we waited what 3, 4 months for this? I actually had a little faith when I heard they pulled the update to better it, guess it was just a rumor

I think they'll get the camera back in Gingerbread and do some other tweaks, but they're never going to announce it so they don't have to deal with thousands of people asking them "when?" every day of the week. It'll just pop up one day and that'll probably be the last official update the G2x receives. Ice Cream Sandwhich? Yeah right .

Everything in this statement is true, unfortunately. Even though my G2x is running great, i still feel we got played. Especially the whole "yeah, its got the AT&T 3G frequencies false advertising debacle".
I agree on many fronts. But I still remain hopeful that LG will release the source code for their kernel within the next few weeks, and the ultra-talented devs can start optimizing that code for better battery life, less reboots, etc.
We already have some pretty sweet roms and themes coming out for 2.3.3. It would seem that if we could get some customized kernels for it, we'd be in business. Snappier interface due to swapping, working a2dp, hdmi, etc...even might have the LG cam working without bugs soon.
I wouldn't go crazy freaking out at this point. However, I will concede that T-Mobile and LG did NOT live up to even the slightest expectations we placed on them. We would be lost without these awesome devs.
So keep that in mind, and support their work and/or keep clicking thanks.

I won't hold my breath for this. Too many vague terms in the announcement.
If it is true, then we will be getting ICS which I firmly don't think so.

Definitely not, for me from here out, it's nexus devices or bust.

So I guess those of us that haven't rooted are considering it even more so now? I've had an Android device (never rooted) since I pre-ordered my G1 and i've never been disappointed. Until I got the G2X. The phone is very nice, but it has had many more problems than my Nexus One. When upgrading to this, I thought to myself.. look at the specs.. it CAN'T be anything but much better. I don't hate the G2X and i've been lucky to not have as many problems as some of you, but problems are problems regardless. Whether it's a few or 100.
Its in the 5th paragraph down, (2 down from the video).
The only thing is, this phone was launched before this announcement.
But not much before, so, who knows. I think the g2x was around apr 15, and this announcement was a month later.
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/android-momentum-mobile-and-more-at.html
And personally, I was aware of this and counted on it when I bought my g2x. Otherwise I would have bought a nexus.
Guys even tho the build number on the gb kernel is the same as froyos how much different do u think it is? Do u actually think they tweaked it enough to call it a different kernel? (Gb)
Well like I stated before my g2x has been good since day one launch day ......I just got an exchange cuz I had a scuff on the side of it so I told a Rep about it and they send me a new one wich I didn't want cuz I didn't wana get stuck with a dud phone but it came in with gb already in it so I nandroid restore from my other phone to try it out and day and a half later its been flawless so far.... so looks like I'm keeping it but to b honest I had worst experience with the vibrant wich took forever for 2.1 update and touchwiz was garbage ....right now I'm waiting on galaxy s2 but ima wait a month after cuz of my bad experience with samsuck in the past ..........LG has been good to me in my g2x experience but I have read so mAny people with bad experiences with g2x so I completely understand the frustration by people but I personally dont feel screwed cuz we got a update actually fast compare to other devices ......there's been a lot of phones that barely got it now and been out way before than g2x .....so me personally I don't feel screwed at all I love my g2x i also got a sensation but I gave it to my wife after using it for a day wich she freaking loves ......different strokes for different folks I guess LOL...
.....but next I got my eyes on the galaxy s2 (Hercules).........

I'm over this phone already to be honest. GB camera does suck. I'm already looking at Nexus Prime or what ever it suppose to be. Hopefully it's on Sprint's network, cause I"m leaving T-Mo once this merger is approved (have no faith in US Gov't to deny this one).

I'm also still waiting for the FM radio to magically start working as well.
Also, has anybody noticed any problems with GPS (slow/no lock) since using the LG upgrade tool to 2.3.3?

THERE IS NO FM RADIO! The Optimus 2X has it, the T-Mobile LG G2X does not!
And I've been getting instant locks with the latest Baseband, and CM7.

Forget about an official LG ICS build on the G2X. If they can't do gingerbread they haven't a prayer with ICS.
meh.... my rooted g2x still runs faster and better than any other options tmobile has to offer right now
i will forgive them for this whole thing if they make the G2x get ICS

I was in the same boat as you, in fact I still have my Nexus One stock and unrooted, but this phone was such a pain and the support so worthless I said why not. I can't tell you what a good decision that was. ROMs like Weapon 2.1 have turned my once POS phone into probably the coolest piece of tech I've ever owned
