Found this on Mydroidworld. Looks like they have done alot of work! Thanks p3droid for giving us a sneak peek.
I'm.... speechless
Looks like Froyo with an edited build that someone got Netflix to work on. But I hope I'm wrong.

Native Gingerbread should be coming soon seeing as the Thunderbolt will be receiving it before the end of June. Hopefully we can get that so we can see alot more custom ROM builds being made.

Ya I heard the TB was getting it June 30th so I would assume roughly a month later for the Charge but I also heard that they were going to just skip giving the Charge GB and go straight to ICS, that's one thing I hate about these cell phone companies, they never give us definite release dates on anything, it's always leak this, rumor that...
Where'd you hear that the Charge would be getting ICS straight from Froyo? It'd be great to get it soon, but I doubt this will be the first phone to get it by any means, and I'm sure they'll have Gingerbread ready before ICS comes out.
Anyway, this is awesome. I knew Samsung was working on Gingerbread, and its already out for the other SGS phones, so it can't be that long. But I'm wondering if TBH got it on there themselves, or if they were able to procure a pre-release build leak. I'm thinking the latter because of the apparently stock ROM otherwise, but then again maybe that was the most stable way to do it.
Its from P3Droid and Team Black Hat, so for those saying its fake, its not. This is great though, apparently that thread worked and they're showing some real interest in this device. With Gingerbread right around the corner, it'd be great to have CM7 to look forward to! Can't wait to see this get out in some build we can use...

Nononono I was reading somewhere, I think it was an Android Forum, they were talking about the Charge not getting Gingerbread and just going Froyo > Icecream, I'm not saying it was going to get it first I meant it wouldn't be getting Gingerbread, it's not confirmed information at all but Gingerbread isn't confirmed either so that's why I'm a bit skeptical
I can't wait to get Netflix to work.
Anyone get Netflix to work on 2.2.1 EE4?
I have read several forums where people have been told by Verizon and/or Samsung reps. that they are not working on gb for the Charge and that they plan to just skip to ICS...although this info is probably coming from some tech support guy in India who can hardly speak English so who knows. I'm just happy to see that SOMEONE is working on getting this thing up-to-date, even if it isn't the corporations that should have released it with 2.3 in the first place...
Well we have a gb leak so they must have been working on it.

Wrong it is in fact and actual GB build for the Charge. I did not see that actual device in the video but I have in fact seen the file and watched it be flashed to a Charge. Its coming just a matter of when the release hits. Word I've gotten is hopefully around Aug time frame.

Completely inaccurate. ICS is not even going to be ready for til 4th Qtr to start with. And as for GB it will for sure be coming to the Charge and in the not to distant future like I just stated.
Not sure why anyone would think that the release of Gingerbread on the Charge will somehow fall into some kind of lockstep timing schedule (30 days after) with the Thunderbolt, when the Thunderbolt is an HTC device and the Charge is Samsung. Two different companies, two different set of internal developers, two different business models etc, etc.
We might get GB next week, or next year, or never, I don't know, but I do know that the release of GB on the TB has nothing to do with the release of GB on the Charge.
Sad that GB is over a year old now, and we're still getting Froyo on the "top of the line" devices and still stressing over when, if ever, we'll get it on three month old devices.
I doubt that any vendors besides the one creating the next Nexus phone has ics. It's nearly half a year away from announcement. Anyways, P3Droid is completely legit. He released gingerbread for the fascinate last week. He ran a video much like that one and people said that he was running froyo and being skeptical. I was running that gb build on my fascinate until I broke it and purchased a charge. If he says he has it, he has it. He apparently has a leaker and I thank God that he does.

Glad to see the Fascinate finally got a real GB. Took Sammy many many months to even give us Froyo which we had a working copy of in January.
I am wondering when we will get a leaked version of this?

You mean 6-8 months old, nowhere near "over a year" old yet. It came out around November-December of 2010, or 6-7 months ago. No need to over exagerate.

Explain. IRC?
The Charge had a GB leak. That is how TBH got a hold of it. I'm thinking other Devs could possibly get a hold of this leak if you know where to look....
But anyway, When I had my DX, TBH was the first to publish a ROM with the leaked GB kernel. They know what they are doing for sure.
I recommend following P3Droid on Twitter. He ususally drops info on a daily basis that I find very interesting. He mentioned weeks ago running netflix on the Charge via Twitter.

The Apex and Mesmerize will be ready for upgrades around March. Download details coming next week. Thanks for your patience.about an hour ago.

Except how great will it be if the AOSP community can get the 2.3 GUI running on the Galaxy S devices before USCC even pushes 2.2! That'll be a slap in the face in it's own regard..
Once that happens it won't matter because we'll be able to port any existing ROMs and CyanogenMod will follow soon after.

About the best option available right now! (=
so how long till we get a leaked version so we can flash it?
Pretty ridiculous. They'd update the Acclaim and the Desire in the coming week/weeks...and leave the Mesmerize for March... I'm skipping any OTA's from USCC at this point. I'd rather wait for xda community than USCC.
http://www.facebook.com/USCellular/posts/173189566049534 - the facebook page with the info (with a lot of mad ppl)
It's easy to hate USCC but you have to remember thay they've, untill recently with their new belief project, really been primarily a business company. It didn't matter to them that they had older phones or whatever as long as they could make sure that the services they were providing were reliable on a business level. Still annoying though d= but I think they're getting better.. at least we're getting the update..
am I the only one not really bothered by the release date? I got the PnP running with voodoo and it's working pretty well for me. I cant imagine it could get that much faster. 2.2 is supposed to be pretty fast but I'm not at all disappointed with the performance right now.

Look, it's not hard to connect the dots here:
We've heard numerous people say T-Mobile has been giving employees G2X's with Gingerbread for bug testing over the past month or so. We've even seen it on G2Xs at E3.
Yesterday, LG tweeted that the Gingerbread update would 'probably not be released today' and that they're trying to release it ASAP.
Within the last 24 hours, LG Forum mods have stated to count on it being released by the end of June at the latest. They've also said 'if all goes well, it will be released very soon.'
Now, based on those three things, let's use our thinking caps: LG has probably sent a final version of the GB update to T-Mobile for bug testing (we know they've been doing this because of point #1.) It was likely sent to T-Mobile within the past few days, which is not enough time to thoroughly test and is why LG tweeted that it probably wouldn't be released yesterday (point #2.) They haven't released a date yet because they don't know if there are any unforeseen bugs, but 'if all goes well' (i.e., no bugs are found in the latest build), it should be released immediately (point #3.)
It's very clear the update is coming and they're trying their best to resolve all of the issues people have been complaining about. Do you understand what a disaster it would be if they released an update that didn't fix the issues the phone currently has? They're obviously trying to fix everything that they can and are unwilling to push out a buggy update for the sake of doing so. 1-2 weeks is a very reasonable timeline and if the internal T-Mobile testing goes well we will most likely see it by Tuesday, the first day of Summer, which they've said would be the release date all along.

We've seen a leaked GB ROM, which was still sitting on the same kernel; it exhibited all the same issues that people have complained about.
A close look at the various GB 'leak' videos also show the same kernel.
I sure hope we see something soon, but if it's 'gingerbread' running on the existing kernel...I'm not hopeful. There could be a considerable number of fixes in the NVidia user space daemons, that would be a plus, but without a kernel rev? I'm thinking that would be a problem.
Hey DebauchedSloth, first thank you for your work on the battery driver. I'm unaware of any videos that actually show builds of Gingerbread that are more recent than the leak that came out almost a month and a half ago. I agree that it would be a bad move to not update the kernel, but there's no saying that they won't and I'm not sure if those leak videos are a reliable indicator of what the final update will be like.
Out of curiosity, since Faux and others have done work on custom kernels, is it really a problem if LG doesn't update theirs? It seems like something that the current G2X devs can't fix is ****ty drivers and unexposed Tegra features, but the kernel is fair game for tweaking and modifying. All I'm hoping to get from the GB update is a more stable set of hardware drivers, so that custom ROMs won't be stuck with the same bugs that the stock ROM has.

What about other phones with same or older kernel? Do they have same reboot/freeze issue? If not, I believe drivers are the culprit for most of the issues we've seen on G2x.
The GB leak is just "GB" leak, which means it doesn't include the driver fixes. So it's not a surprise that it still has same issues Froyo G2x has.
Daaaamn again ?

I think the drivers are responsible for almost all of the issues with this phone. And it is deeply frustrating, because the hardware itself is awesome.

+1 on software side issues. Why? Because so far EB gb v1.1 doesn't hang up nor reboots on me unlike other. I don't know what he is doing. Maybe it's just placibo, maybe it's not but it works for me.
Also, coming from HD2 (hyperdroid builds), I learn to wait for the better roms.
Hopefully, there will really be an official update for our g2x this year.

The kernel is fair game, but a lot of the hardware control is in the NVidia user space process. So, for example, the G2X has the same WM8994 sound chip that the Nexus S has, but control of that is in the NV userspace daemon, so a full on voodoo sound driver is not really possible. You can hack at some of the stuff, which I did in one of my patches to faux's kernel, but it really doesn't work so well and you can't go all out.
Similarly, the battery driver really needs access to the underlying charge controller and is basically guessing at the charge state by reading what it can (current voltage.) You can see your self how well that works. Poorly.
So we wait on LG/NV for fixes.
Or we go ahead and spend a lot of time and effort to work around this, if it's even possible in some cases.
Just Googled "Out by Summer". I was referred to a School summer lunch program, a few Alice Cooper videos, and a few other things. But no magic release date for GB on the G2x.
If the date is not in Google...its no where.
It'll be here. Evidence proves it to be very soon.

Thought that was because the Yamaha sound chip was no good. G2X has a great chip, but no open source drivers (since the driver itself is in the NV binary blob).
Doubt Gingerbread will fix that. Hopefully will make things more stable...but more hackable? Doubt it.

I think they'll get the camera back in Gingerbread and do some other tweaks, but they're never going to announce it so they don't have to deal with thousands of people asking them "when?" every day of the week. It'll just pop up one day and that'll probably be the last official update the G2x receives. Ice Cream Sandwhich? Yeah right .

Everything in this statement is true, unfortunately. Even though my G2x is running great, i still feel we got played. Especially the whole "yeah, its got the AT&T 3G frequencies false advertising debacle".
I agree on many fronts. But I still remain hopeful that LG will release the source code for their kernel within the next few weeks, and the ultra-talented devs can start optimizing that code for better battery life, less reboots, etc.
We already have some pretty sweet roms and themes coming out for 2.3.3. It would seem that if we could get some customized kernels for it, we'd be in business. Snappier interface due to swapping, working a2dp, hdmi, etc...even might have the LG cam working without bugs soon.
I wouldn't go crazy freaking out at this point. However, I will concede that T-Mobile and LG did NOT live up to even the slightest expectations we placed on them. We would be lost without these awesome devs.
So keep that in mind, and support their work and/or keep clicking thanks.

Definitely not, for me from here out, it's nexus devices or bust.

So I guess those of us that haven't rooted are considering it even more so now? I've had an Android device (never rooted) since I pre-ordered my G1 and i've never been disappointed. Until I got the G2X. The phone is very nice, but it has had many more problems than my Nexus One. When upgrading to this, I thought to myself.. look at the specs.. it CAN'T be anything but much better. I don't hate the G2X and i've been lucky to not have as many problems as some of you, but problems are problems regardless. Whether it's a few or 100.
Its in the 5th paragraph down, (2 down from the video).
The only thing is, this phone was launched before this announcement.
But not much before, so, who knows. I think the g2x was around apr 15, and this announcement was a month later.
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/05/android-momentum-mobile-and-more-at.html
And personally, I was aware of this and counted on it when I bought my g2x. Otherwise I would have bought a nexus.
Guys even tho the build number on the gb kernel is the same as froyos how much different do u think it is? Do u actually think they tweaked it enough to call it a different kernel? (Gb)
Well like I stated before my g2x has been good since day one launch day ......I just got an exchange cuz I had a scuff on the side of it so I told a Rep about it and they send me a new one wich I didn't want cuz I didn't wana get stuck with a dud phone but it came in with gb already in it so I nandroid restore from my other phone to try it out and day and a half later its been flawless so far.... so looks like I'm keeping it but to b honest I had worst experience with the vibrant wich took forever for 2.1 update and touchwiz was garbage ....right now I'm waiting on galaxy s2 but ima wait a month after cuz of my bad experience with samsuck in the past ..........LG has been good to me in my g2x experience but I have read so mAny people with bad experiences with g2x so I completely understand the frustration by people but I personally dont feel screwed cuz we got a update actually fast compare to other devices ......there's been a lot of phones that barely got it now and been out way before than g2x .....so me personally I don't feel screwed at all I love my g2x i also got a sensation but I gave it to my wife after using it for a day wich she freaking loves ......different strokes for different folks I guess LOL...
.....but next I got my eyes on the galaxy s2 (Hercules).........

I'm over this phone already to be honest. GB camera does suck. I'm already looking at Nexus Prime or what ever it suppose to be. Hopefully it's on Sprint's network, cause I"m leaving T-Mo once this merger is approved (have no faith in US Gov't to deny this one).

If LG (or NVIDIA) can't even get GB with respective kernel, in what way you think they can do ICS with new 3.0 Kernel?

I'm also still waiting for the FM radio to magically start working as well.
Also, has anybody noticed any problems with GPS (slow/no lock) since using the LG upgrade tool to 2.3.3?

THERE IS NO FM RADIO! The Optimus 2X has it, the T-Mobile LG G2X does not!
And I've been getting instant locks with the latest Baseband, and CM7.

Forget about an official LG ICS build on the G2X. If they can't do gingerbread they haven't a prayer with ICS.
meh.... my rooted g2x still runs faster and better than any other options tmobile has to offer right now
i will forgive them for this whole thing if they make the G2x get ICS

So I guess those of us that haven't rooted are considering it even more so now? I've had an Android device (never rooted) since I pre-ordered my G1 and i've never been disappointed. Until I got the G2X. The phone is very nice, but it has had many more problems than my Nexus One. When upgrading to this, I thought to myself.. look at the specs.. it CAN'T be anything but much better. I don't hate the G2X and i've been lucky to not have as many problems as some of you, but problems are problems regardless. Whether it's a few or 100.

I was in the same boat as you, in fact I still have my Nexus One stock and unrooted, but this phone was such a pain and the support so worthless I said why not. I can't tell you what a good decision that was. ROMs like Weapon 2.1 have turned my once POS phone into probably the coolest piece of tech I've ever owned
To all those super developers out there.
Assuming that Ice Cream Sandwich is running on a suped up Galaxy S2 for Verizon, with LTE. How fast do you think you guys will get it over to the Charge?
Also, I have never bought any of that team Black Hat stuff, but if you could get me ICS a month after release, I would be more than happy to pay you for it.
Many of you are younger guys, and you seem to work for charity, but why? Business is business, if you've got something people want, consider charging for it.
I'm sure some people are reading this thinking I am nuts, but if these guys charged for roms, they would have more time to put into it. In some respects I am just saying what everyone already know, you get what you pay for.
Thank you to the entire dev community. Keep up the good work.

are you talking about the complete system dump of ICS as a stock rom? or custom rom like Gummy/Humble using it as a base? If it's the first option it could take a while longer... though it kinda makes me wonder if VZ is holding out on GB for us to get ICS to our phones, it seems kinda pointless to upgrade us to GB then this magical new build ICS comes out a month later

This would be my guess unfortunately. Of course I have no evidence or reasons to support my belief, but its my guess nonetheless
If the charge does get ics i highly doubt it will be before summer of 2012. To be honest i wouldn't even count on that though. At least going by there current track record of verizon and sammy. But only time will tell.
I just really hope that these top end phones will start keeping up with current android builds. the fascinate was on eclair when gb was released and now the charge is on froyo and ics is about to be released.
well isn't ICS supposed to be like the universal android build for all devices? you'd think they'd wanna push it out to all (perhaps more recent ones) android smartphones
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
idk but i hope your right anoninja. It would be nice to see.
I'm counting on JT getting CM7 finished and pulled into the CM mainline. Hopefully that will eventually lead to some ICS goodness in CM8.
Can't believe that now the Thunderbolt AND the LG Revolution are going to have Gingerbread and we're still left in the dust. WTF Verizon!?!

With the amount of roms that are out, no need to get your panties in a bunch over what other oems are pushing out.
Keep supporting out devs with donations and they will continue to bring forth great roms and tweaks

Thunderbolt was released two months before the Charge, and I believe the Revolution was released around the same time as the Charge. So naturally the Thunderbolt update would be released before the Charge update. Actually the Thunderbolt already had one release that was pulled a day or two later because of problems. So based on the phone release timeline, this makes sense. We're basically next in line. We're not getting screwed or cheated. Yes, it's taken a long time, but that's big red for you.
We shouldn't have to flash a custom rom to get gingerbread. We currently have the best phone on verizon's lineup (most people can agree the bionic is garbage) and its the last phone stuck on froyo. Unacceptable.

I know I know, had the bionic for 3 days before taking that **** back to vw. Best phone they offer.
Not trying to put out your frustrations but look at it this way. The way that technology is, Samsung (and all other OEM manufactures) are loosing money updating their current devices.
Technology is changing so fast that most companies have almost all their devs working on future devices. In the company I work for, the most senior devs work on future projects because they are trusted with their work. While the junior devs work on or updating last years crap.

The problem is that we should have it already. The Thunderbolt came out before the Charge so naturally it would get updated before us. But the Revolution came out after the Charge and now its getting updated. Its just frustrating that our "flagship" device is getting skipped over (for right now).

Flashing a Rom is NOT a solution. I'm sorry but I hate when people say this. A phone as new as the charge should have official updates. This and having crappy phones or basicly the same.phone coming out 2 months later is what's killing Android.

Don't get me wrong I want GB as well, but what functionality and features are all of you missing by not having GB? I am assuming we are only talking OTA here. Also LG will be quicker to release because they have a lot less phones to support...

It's not about features, it's about simply getting the updates that we should be getting while phones like the Revolution and even way older phones are getting the GB update. For all we know, the OTA could be better than the ROMs (complete sarcasm here). Still, it's just frustrating to not be "officially" updated.

So it's simply the version number it displays? Otherwise you would not really know since there is no features you are specifically needing or just wanting but lacking?

Heh, the level of complacency among some Android users is staggering isn't it? Only on Android can you buy a "flagship" handset that not only ships with an outdated OS (froyo), but won't be eligible for an official update announced within ~six months of the device's release (ICS).
To anyone who thinks it isn't an issue: Google wouldn't be trying to fix it if it weren't a problem.

And, Google is trying to fix it, but when any other new business management steps in to fix a problem. They focus all their resource's into preventative measures for future products. It take a major crisis for them to reach back to a product already behind the curve, and spend any real resources.
I am also disappointed that they are not paying attention to the first lte phone to keep debugging the new network. I think that big red's to blame, for their are many, with bad data problems.
I also think that we should have had another OTA update, but most app's functionality has been ported thru to 2.2 SO, I think an official udate to GB is going to be a long time coming.
ICS! That a long wait for a train ain't comin'!

if the galaxy nexus comes out before the charge gets a gingerbread release, I don't think devs are going to invest much effort into the charge and will be busy working on the nexus!

Oh I can't wait until it does drop. The kernels that will come available will blown away what we have now even though they are no slouch either. However I do not feel entitled to an upgrade either. Back when I had dumb phones I never EXPECTED more than what the phone came with. I do see that the ecosystem around smartphones is a different animal but also am a developer for a fortune 200 financial services company. Based on my experience in the IT industry and dealing with business partners and their reasoning behind funding this and not funding that, and seeing actual numbers I can totally see the justification behind updates for already released phones not being a priority, even if I don't like it, it's the reality of the situation.
official GB probably comes in 2 months, it goes according to verizon's speed on releasing GB.
This is my experience of the Droid 2 not getting GB until August this year.
