So, who's getting a Sensation, and why?

I've had my G2 since the day it came out and its the best smartphone, and Android phone I've ever had. Despite the little quirks the G2 has that somewhat bother me,I love the look and the fact that the keyboard is amazing. BUT, I'm going to be making the switch to the Sensation when it comes out.
1) I've always wanted a large screen phone. I envy people with a Evo despite my phone will out perform it anyday. I feel like with a 4.3 inch ill be happy no matter what. Playing games will be better especially with the large screen, and the dual core of course will be great too. Eventhough the G2's keyboard is amazingly awesome, I know the larger screen will make up for not having one and ill finally be able to get really handy with Swype.
2) the hardware on the phone is amazing. The dual core is going to be amazingly fast and I feel the phone will gather a large dev community and the roms, kernels etc will be be vast. Not to mention Sense 3.0 is beautiful and will be great to use evenwhen other roms are available.
3) I work for best buy, so the discount will be enough for me to buy outright (or else I wouldn't buy haha).

I'm not sure.. I just came from the G2x and was really in love with it minus the F'ed up screen. I'm thinking about holding out for a similar G2 with Dual Core or even Quad Core capability. This G2 is so nice after fixing the hinge. I'm very satisfied.

Coming from an N900 I've always thought I had to had a keyboard and but after using Swype, HTC IME and every other onscreen keyboard featured I end up using the onscreen 90% of the time anyway.
Now on to the reason I'm getting the Sensation.. my best bud and gadget rival got a Thunderbolt and the G2 looks puny compared to it! Haha.

I'm a big fan of 4.3" form factor after having my HD2. In fact at 10 months was the longest I ever owned a phone. I still consider it ergonomically the best phone I've ever used (for me). I've been waiting for something similar in Android form to come out to Tmo for quite a while. G2 was really a stop gap for me waiting for a 4.3" Tmo phone.

I'm tempted by the Sensation...
I find myself only using the desire Z keyboard for long emails, otherwise the onscreen keyboard does the job nice.
I already have a Bluetooth keyboard and as the Sensation supports the Bluetooth HID profile, i'm hoping that I would be able to use that with the Sensation.
The big screen is definitely appealing!

you have tot think its not only a 4.3 incher, but it has a qhd screen. for seem this seems like this could be as big as when the evo launcher. just because its the first phone with sense 3.0 and all of these yummy specs. and someone referring to having a phone with dual core, and a slide out keyboard i think youll probably be in luck. though its not the next g2, it is the mytouch 4g slide and it has alot of the goodies the sensation has plus a slide out. i can imagine a g3 will be in the works considering how fast phones are developing these days.

Wonder when we can expect the g3 if possible...i would probably pass on the sensation atm.

I am interested in it, but I will wait for a few weeks to get it because there are bound to be glitches and problems with it.

Locked bootloader = no dice
HTC was once a great but SE is looking the best for Android now. HW isn't much currently but hell, they give you the option to unlock the bootloader and even instructions to make your own kernel.

exactly. as soon as I see that they locked the bootloader, I just have nothing else to say... I wish they would continue doing what they did way back when and not worry about what rom we put on our phone. it's not like we're reverse engineering the phone to create a clone of the actual device and software to sell for profits.

This forum is only now starting to hit it's stride. It will be ages before the sensation forum can even come close to what our devs have done here. And for someone like me, that is just as important as the actual phone hardware itself.

Have to agree, but even though the Sensation will come all locked up, it's still the first dual core HTC phone. There will be a lot of people with it.

Did anyone ever crack any of the motorola locked bootloaders? Last I heard no one ever did and genius's have been working on that for years with bounties worth 1000s. If this is anything like that its gonna be a dead end. Nothing but roms based on the stock with slight tweaks. Not interested.

We should wait and see what happens with the Incredible S.

i def know what youre saying with the sign bootloader. from what ive read, its not nearly as bad the moto bootloaders. i know there was an issue with the thunderbolt being locked..but whadda know! its unlocked, and roms are being flashed, etc. the g2 took quite some time before it was officially rooted. i have high hopes for the sensation being unlocked and from what ive read throughout websites that others do too. regardless of the bootloader ever being cracked, the phone is amazing with everything it offers and ill be getting it anyway. the new sense is going to be AMAZING, and itll hold me over until the phone is rooted.

and im wondering which phone would be the best to get? i dont think 4g matters as there is no 4g here and i mostly use my phone for emulators,email,IM,texting,and alot of web, what would be the best phone to get? i dont take pics and well i never use video chat before for a front facing cam on my epic
what phone would u guys choose?
also im a root user and love flashing roms

I'm on Sprint but I work at a Verizon retail store. I've used all the phones. The Droid X2 is not much of any upgrade from the Droid X. It's basically a Droid X without a camera button, and with a dual core CPU. Not really worth it, especially since it has an encrypted bootloader. I really like the Thunderbolt (I have an Evo), but if you're going to play a lot of games, get the Droid Charge. It has the same (or slightly better) CPU that's in the Epic, and the Thunderbolt doesn't quite compare in terms of speed. There's also the LG Revolution, which is Bing'd out, but is still a great phone. Personally, if you're going to be gaming, I say go for the Droid Charge.

i saw the charge is 299$ where the droid x2 is 199$ is it rly worth the 100$ to get a single core cpu? i know the screen is bad ass on the charge but i heard the x2 is pretty darn good

Don't forget that there is more to the phone than fancy hardware. Droid X2 might be nice, but it still runs moto blur, a UI that often is rated as one of the worst ones of Android. I personally remember playing around with the original Droid X at the VZW store months back and the model on display was lagging from menu to menu.
Software > Hardware, at least in most cases.

I won't lie, the latest version of Motoblur on the Droid X / Droid X2 is not bad at all (though a little laggy on the home screen). But the thing has an encrypted bootloader, which means you can't flash custom kernels, which means your ROM selection will be very limited. Also, the Gingerbread update also introduced something retarded: If you root and try to tether without a tethering plan, you will be redirected to a Verizon page to buy the plan every time you try to load a website.
I haven't used the Droid Charge enough to see differences from the Epic other than they use an orange/brown theme instead of blue on the Epic. Also, the Charge has 4G, so you'll be future-proof. On the other hand, the Droid X2 is dual-core so you'll be future-proofed in terms of performance (Android 2.3 and under don't make use of both cores). I'm really not sure how well it compares, or rather WILL compare against the GPU of the Charge, which is hard to beat.
In terms of price, I think the Droid X2 is priced pretty fairly. The Charge on the other hand is a $100 more and, besides HDMI output and 4G LTE, doesn't really add much to your Epic. In the end it's really up to you. You always have 30 days to change the phone. Drop into a Verizon store and try them out. But keep in mind that Quadrant Standard isn't optimized for dual cores and Neocore is optimized for Qualcomm (ie Snapdragon) chipsets.

i did forget to add a phone.... the sony xperia play i do play a ALOT of ps1 emualtor on my epic.... how is the xperia play? i mean i forgot it was even out lol im use to the 4inch screen but if its bad ass for games and then that maybe be the phone to get

he is talkin about benchmarkn its nothing really just a score on how fast is the phone and stuff but some programs are more into other CPUS then others so give more points to the slower cpu

I've played with the Xperia play. The good thing about it is that it's mainly stock Android (no skin, but it does have extra Sony Widgets and some crapware). It comes with Crash Bandicoot (the PS1 version) and some Bruce Lee game, among other games. It played pretty smooth, but it only has a 1GHz Snapdragon, so nothing too impressive. If you can hold off, the Galaxy S II, which is the most powerful Android phone out right now, will be coming to Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T anywhere from July to August. It's all unofficial as of now, but they're definitely coming because they've been named (AT&T Attain, Sprint Within, Verizon Function).

Quadrant Standard and Neocore are benchmarking apps used to show the CPU and GPU capablities of a phone. The issue is that neither will give you an accurate result of the raw power of a phone.

Avoid Moto ATM
I used to be a staunch supporter of Motorola phones, but in the last couple years, especially with Android OS, they've been very lackluster to me. I support the phones in our office, and we've got several versions of Motos here that give us all sorts of issues. Its amazing what features that Moto manages to turn off natively that all other phones seem to have, plus they go out of their way to make it difficult to update to custom ROMs, etc.

I would definitely go with the TBolt, I've had mine for a couple months now and came from a N1 i was using with iWireless and love the TBolt, Rooted and running Gingerbread, everything works great

I have a Tbolt & I love it. Mainly because (1) it has 4G and (2) the *very* active dev community here. You may not be concerned with 4G now, but it may come to your area before you are allowed to upgrade phones, so that may be worth considering. Also, some of the TB kernels allow overclocking up to 1.92ghz. The DX2 will proly still give better emulator performance, but I'd bet an overclocked Tbolt would emulate better than a stock Droid Charge (an o/c'd Charge would be a different story. Idk if you can even o/c a Charge, I don't follow the Charge threads). The last time I checked the Charge rom dev section, it was pretty sparse. That will change as more devs get their hands on it, but for the moment you can't get flash happy with a Charge. The Charge's amoled screen is freaking gorgeous. There is nothing else like a Samsung amoled. Colors are really vivid & bright and black is *black*, not dark grey like on a lcd. The Charge's battery life is better than the Tbolt too. I don't know much about the DX2 but I do know that if you like playing with custom roms & kernels, the DX2's bootloader will be very frustrating. I have never messed with Moto Blur but the majority of comments I've read about it are not positive. Ultimately it's a matter of tradeoffs & what is most important to you. If you want the best emulator performance & don't mind giving up custom roms, go for DX2. If you want an awesome screen & can wait a few weeks for rom development to pan out, get the Charge. If you've gotta have custom roms/kernels *right now* & don't mind lackluster battery life, check out the Tbolt.

Thunderbolt now or wait for Galaxy S II or Evo 3D?
Will the Bolt be outdated soon with dual processors out now? I'm in no real hurry and can wait a few months so I'm thinking of waiting for Galaxy S II since I've read it is going to be open source now.
In Los Angeles will it matter whether I'm on Sprint or Verizon as far as 4G performance goes? The speed tests I've found are outdated and one listed Verizon as the very worst performing network but they tested in Columbus, OH and people posted that it wasn't an accurate test because of that.

I would go with the thunderbolt, and i just did a few days ago actually. It has the most dev support on here and I hate moto with a passion so the choice was easy for me.

Battery 1900mA - Should I sell my G2X and buy the Sensation?

Hello.
I want to buy the 1900 mA battery on eBay
However now there is the HTC sensation.
My question is, will there be a 1900 mA battery for the sensation, and if so, how long it usually takes for good/aftermarket batteries to arrive?
I'd need to wait at least 45 days since someone has to sell the battery and then I'd like to see a couple of reviews.
Anyway, I don't want to spend more money on accessories if the G2X is not going to be my phone
However, if the G2X has all the accessories now, I could use it for a couple of months, 2-3 months
For me it's a matter of price vs performance.
These are my priorities
1) Aftermarket cases, batteries...
2) Development of phone (root, unlock possibilities, ROMs...)
3) Price
If I wait too long I won't be able to sell my G2X but if I sell it right now I might not be able to enjoy all the accessories I bought
For example the $40 InvisibleShield and the 2 cases that I bought
If I buy the batter I'd like to use the phones at least 2 months
After 2 months, if I sell my phone on Amazon/eBay/Craigslist, how much money do you guys think I could sell it for?

By all means, please buy the Sensation.

I have had the G2X for a month, and nothing has been working perfectly all of the time.
The Sensation is a much better purchase.

1) what about ROOTING the phone?
I've read they encrypted something
If I can't install ROMs, then I guess I can still use it
but if I can't ROOT the phone, no way
2) 1900 mA battery, that is a BIG plus, I really want that battery and the G2X already has that one
If I continue spending money on this phone, then at least I'd use it for another 2-3 months
3) Samsung Galaxy SII
That is another contender, I enjoyed the Galaxy S 4G
At the end of the day, I just want to change if it makes sense, because changing phones costs me around $150-$200, since I have to sell my phone, and put the extra cash for the new one
Plus then I have to sell the accessories
The only accessory that I won't be able to sell is the InvisibleShield, and nobody is going to pay me an extra $40, so my loss
I like the G2X, but if I can have a device with 256MB of more RAM and IF I CAN ROOT that device, then it would be worth it

Anyway, what is the BEST and most reliable way to install ROMs on my G2X?
I'd like to install a ROM but ONLY IF I'm able to backup my current ROM in case I want to reinstall it in the future
Last time with Samsung Galaxy S 4G I made the error of jumping into ROMS too early, and with no backup of my current ROM I had some issues
mainly some apps in system folder that weren't working properly
I have a backup of the system folder now, but I'd like to have a REAL WORKING backup of my current ROM
Maybe I can upgrade to 2.3 officially someday, without ROMs or anything
Plus when I sell the phone I'd like to sell it with the official ROM
I'm keeping my G2X and next week I'm buying that 1900 mA battery
Anyway, what is the next phone that has Nvidia Tegra 1.2Ghz+ (or Qualcomm 1.2Ghz+) + 768MB (or 1024MB) of RAM and 960x540?
I don't play too many games on my phone and if Qualcomm doesn't support a game or two I don't care too much
I thought HTC Pyramid (HTC Sensation T-Mobile) was THE ANSWER and the next G2X Killer
G2X is extremely popular and people love it. HTC Sensation seems cool but I think for experts it's not worth it
They locked everything in that phone
Anyway, back to G2X, please tell me what is the most efficient way to use my phone.
I'd like a ROM that leaves a lot of FREE RAM so my phone can feel faster than ever
and I'd also like to backup my current ROM and be able to restore it any day

First if you haven't rooted do it with superoneclick here:

Then Flash Recovery with One-Click ClockworkMod NvFlasher here:

Then boot into recovery (Hold Vol Down + Power) and backup your current ROM. After you are backed up...flash whatever ROM you want. It's all pretty easy with the advent of oneclick. As for which ROM that is up to you but any of the current roms should feel much faster than stock due to the bloat removal...and with the OC kernels you can make this thing scream. Oh, there is a flashable copy of the stock ROM in the dev section if you ever need it (if you made a backup you won't)
And not what you asked for but the Samsung Galaxy S II is the only upcoming phone that has caught my eye. it has a dual-core 1.2GHz Samsung Orion processor and it is a beast. Until then I'm loving what I have.

Every single device being released today has it's problems and we all know the G2X isn't without it's own. I was lucky enough to get both a G2X and a Sensation that had no bugs or only a few minor ones. Most of the software bugs are fixable either through custom ROMS or menu settings.
The Sensation bugs you have listed do not exist on some devices but I will address all of your concerns you have with the Sensations bug list.
-Locked bootloader: HTC has already said they will unlock it through a update. When does it come? Nobody knows just like Gingerbread on the G2X.
-I haven't had any Sense FC's and the Sensation I am using has been running for almost 3 days straight without me rebooting the device. I think this problem is attributed to a bad app with a memory leak.
-Once you turn off all the bells and whistles such as animated weather and all of the Sense animations there is no more lag.
-Haven't had a Random WiFi or Data drop but I applied this fix before I started using the phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118017
-As said in my review, I get great battery life. Better than I did on my G2X and I thought I had pretty good battery on my G2X which got 14 hours on moderate use but the Sensation is getting almost 18 hours on moderate use.
-No problem with network signals here. Gets the same amount of signal my G2X does.
-WiFi death grip was an issue until I changed a setting. Under advanced settings in the WiFi menu there is a check box called "Best WiFi Performance". Once the box was checked, my Sensation no longer suffered the WiFi death grip when multiple rooms away from the router.
-Never played a Gameloft game so I wouldn't know. What I can tell you is that the two games I play religiously actually run smoother and look better on the Sensation. Those two are Andgry Birds and Home Run Battle 3D.

Not my concerns so no need to address them. All of the problems listed were taken from the first page of the Sensation forum. I have absolutely NO interest in the Sensation other than there is WAY too much posting about it in the g2x forums (in my opinion). In short I don't care.

Yea, I don't agree the Sensation is the answer to every question. The answer to every question won't get hear until late August. At that point I will have a G2X and a Sensation up for sale.

Perhaps you're referring to the Samsung Galaxy S II? If so, I'm right on point with you...
I'm going to pick up the Sensation today...G2X is nice, but it gets boring fast...HTC has always made good hardware. Looks good too...The new interface looks promising as well...way cooler than the bare bone G2X...yea yea root it add custom roms blah blah blah...still that doesn't take away from the fact that the G2X is grandpa in design compared to the new HTC S4G. Let alone the SCREEN....Period.
Selling the G2X while I can to get a decent chunk of change on it. Going to take advantage of it not being available on TM's website. Right now would be the best time to sell..
The way I see it...facts that is...the Galaxy S II, if it ever arrives to TM, will be the ultimate phone hands down...in the mean time the HTC Sensation 4g is the throne holder...G2X isn't too far behind, but overall the HTC S4G is the next best thing...

Having second thoughts about ordering a Sensation

had the choice between the SGS2 and the Sensation. even though i hate my current phone (HTC Touch HD) and despite having sworn several times to never buy a HTC phone again i went for the Sensation. it felt better in my hand, plus i wanted the qHD res and i read a lot about people hating Samsung's TouchWiz UI. my alarm bells should've gone off when i compared the UI smoothness of both phones but for some reason i still went with the Sensation (tbh, i was already hoping for snappier custom ROMs later on). i'm hoping to get the new phone within the month (contract running out in august) but after reading about all the technical issues people are having with their Sensations i'm beginning to think i should've picked the SGS2...
so i guess my question is, are you still happy with your Sensation? if you had the chance to go back in time and get a SGS2 instead, would you keep the HTC?

both are good phones. i personally hate the way the galaxy looks.. plus samsung phone is so unoriginal.. everything is a ripe off the apple. its one thing to use a proven design, but its another to be exactly like the other company with a different OS.. Trash

Things like design, type of display, UI, and like/dislike of a particular manufacturer are all individual preference and aren't really part of a "performance" discussion.

I switched to the Sensation from a Samsung Vibrant. The hardware was decent, except for GPS, but Samsung's support was terrible. I've sworn off buying anything from Samsung for a while.
If in doubt, go with your gut.

I love my sensation. I think it looks like a sexier device, but then again looks arent everything right? At least you in Europe get to choose. If us Americans want a sgs2 we have to switch to ATT since the sgs2 doesnt support tmo 3g/4g bands. It seems in terms of performance the sammy blows the sensation out of the water based on tests so far.

All the Sensation needs to be is fast enough. No phone will be the "fastest" for more than a few months.

true. coming from a Touch HD, any recent phone will probably make my head spin in terms of UI responsiveness and ease of use. tbh, i don't really care about benchmark results but i'd appreciate knowing the phone i decided to buy stacks up well against the competition

Most of these problems people have are user error with the exception of dust under the screen. There are just too many idiots these days. These are the same people who have problems with every phone they buy and continually return them and then experience the same problems over and over. I came from a Vibrant and swear by Samsung, but I'll avoid them in the mobile world for a while. Awful phone stock, their software developers are clueless. Rooted was a must to make it useable because of their poor proprietary file system.

Bare in mind current 'benchmarks' don't take into account the increased resolution of the Sensation, nor do they work both the CPUs in the Sensation due to both not running at the same time.

I'll never own a carrier subsidized phone again. The crapware they add and the hardware and software changes they demand add no value and in some cases screw up the phone. We'll see how long it takes T-Mobile to push a Sensation update after the international version gets a new ROM. To your point on the Vibrant, it's hard to single out the manufacturer when the carrier dictates a lot of what ends up happening with the phone. Other Galaxy S carrier phones weren't nearly as screwed up as the Vibrant.

i dont think the sensation is fast enough. my g2x is way smoother than the sensation. Both using launcherpro

[Q] G2x vs Atrix vs Photon

I need a new phone and I have narrow the choices to these 3 phones: atrix(300$), g2x(300$), and the photon(200$).
Pros for g2x:
higher fps in benchmarks
IPS brighter then pentile and lcd
8mp camera with 1080p
seems very snappy
stock gingerbread
1.3 front camera
Pros for atrix:
higher resolution and density screen
1gb ram
huge batttery
not as bulky as photon
bigger storage(16gb)
pros for photon:
Big screen(i know, contradictory)
better screen?(brighter than lcd)
quadrant scores
kickstand
loud speakers
also does the 1gb vs 512 mb ram really affect the performance of the phone? like multitasking and quickness. from what i've seen, the g2x seems way more snappy then the atrix or the photon. am i missing something here? how fast does each load apps and websites? Also can you use the photon on tmobile here in US? or is it only for international. i looked through a lot of forums with no definitive answers. and also does the atrix only use edge on tmobile? is that true?
also from what i've gathered the g2x seems to have a lot of bugs like reboots an d boot loops, is that true? can it be fixed by updates? or is it hardware. does flashing other roms or kernels help?
what are the battery life on each? which one is the best?
Sorry that post was long, I just want honest answers regardless of what phone you have, since this is in the g2x section.

RAM doesn't affect performance at all. It's just that the Photon and Atrix are running Motorola's UI which bogs down the phone like Sense UI.

So will Custom roms fix the lag on the atrix and photon? but on youtube the videos showed that their performance wasn't that much better

And boot loops are a direct result of user error.

What do you mean by "user error"?

Users not flashing properly. I am currently making and updating several themes for this phone, so I'm flashing various roms, and the component apks dozens of times EVERY DAY....and the ONLY time I've ever gotten a boot loop was when I made a stupid mistake...either flashed the wrong file, or didn't wipe what I was supposed to for what I was trying to do, or didn't fix permissions, or I changed smali code beyond what I knew what I was doing, and it went wrong.
But never once have I had my phone just up and decide to "boot loop."
Also, sometimes people make changes to things and then boot up to try it, and it takes 3-4 minutes to boot up because they're rebuilding the dex for 150 apps...adn they just start screaming, "OMG I"M BOOTLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" But they just need to chill out and wait.

I've had both the atrix and the g2x. Personally, I would go with the g2x, has the same processor as the atrix, but stock android is the best in my book. The g2x is absolutely the fastest smartphone I've ever owned. Already has an amazing development page going on with AOSP,cm7, and MiUi ...etc. camera is better on the g2x. True 1080p recording ( I don't think the atrix got that update for 1080p like it was supposed to). To me g2x wins hands down out of those three phones IMO.

1) there are phones that have had reboots, lockups and shut downs. that have nothing to do with user error, these are people that never flashed anything( it does appear the line of phones that had this are gone. dont see much of it anymore except from people that have had their phones for a while)
2)each phone you listed are on different carriers so you really need to look at whos got the best coverage for you.
3)atrix and photon have motoblur so g2x wins right there.
you didnt mention verizon if you dont care about a locked bootloader or blur than the bionic comes out on thursday and should be a great phone. i think motorola makes the best hardware. and if the google buy goes through thats a big plus.
but if you can wait until october even better options will be out. oct-dec is gonna really be a big next tech phone period. and icecream sandwich will come on some of those phones.
screens. the ips on the g2x beats the atrix and photon hand down.
if your into installing custom roms and tmobile service is good in your area the g2x should be fine for you. if you dont do custom romming than dont expect much in the way of updates or support for the g2x.
I really suggest you wait for octobers phones if you can.

Definitely go with the G2X.

Are you going to be flashing custom roms? If so, I'm not sure that motoblur would be that big of a deal. Just flash a rom without it. I'd personally go with the better specs, but thats just me.

Yes I am going to flash custom roms, but the improvement I saw on the few youtube videos wasn't enough to impress me.

Since your in the G2x section, I can't help but assume that most of the answers will be biased
