while i was using my phone the screen just started going white...until it was completely white with just a few shadows of what was originally there. turned it off and on...and now some black and white screen.
Is my phone just dead..permanently?
................................................................
i did the camera, volume down power reset....the bootloader writing is very vague.... going to try rsd lite in the morning...
Does anyone know if this sounds like i just physically messed it up or a software problem (as i recall i did reduce the vsel 10 mins before this happened)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ok so weird .... i left in on bootloaded for a few minutes and then suddenly the screen went normal again and i restarted the phone..all good.....
wt the hell just happened , i am soo confused
-----------------------------------------------------------
and now the same thing just happened again.. all white
I'm not one of the dev experts around here, so don't hold my word on this. If you've got everything backed up (or at least able to back it up now), throw a new (stable) ROM onto it. If the new ROM is acting normally as it is, restore your texts/contacts/etc...and then slowly re-introduce all the apps and tweaks you had on there that may be questionable. Make sure you can isolate the problem to a specific tweak and/or background program that is causing the problem, then get rid of it.
If you pitch on a new ROM and it immediately starts acting screwy (or worse, just buckles over even in the middle of a ROM update*), you've probably got a case of hardware failure (likely due to heat) on your hands. x.x
* - In bootloader/recovery, not the OS of course.
I may not be able to save my settings so im holding of rsd lite for now
But if bootloader mode is randomly shady (theres a grey strip made of smaller vertical lines running down the left hand side of the screen where the bootloader writings are), then does that mean its hardware.
Hoping an expert can tell me if all the customisations, vsel changes etc...can affect the performance on bootloader. because if it can;t then in narrows it down to hardware straight away.
prelim research suggest the flexi ribbon that connect the screen to somthing is loose. Might have to open it up
What was your OC and vsel settings ?
880, 62 vsel,
yh rsd lited it...similar funky screen...white strip going down the middle at bootup...and then green, black white vertical lines once its at the welcome to android screen..prob the colours that make up the lil robot thing. the notification bar is fine though
Time to open it up

Strange, I don't know what is your problem but I think your vsel is too low, I am [email protected]
But I don't know if OC is load in bootloader mod so it's maybe another problem.

So after updating to a couple WM6 ROMS and being happy, my phone starts to act weird, my screen starts to turn white at random times and i have to keep the keyboard slid out slightly to keep the screen from going white. Then after a while it changes again, and now my screen always goes white until i slide the keyboard in and out a couple of times and then slide it back in, but it will only stay normal for a little and my screen will go white again. In hopes to fix this i switched back to my official T-Mobile 2.26 ROM but i am still having the same problem. Can someone please help me fix this, my phone is almost at the brink of not working and i would have to wait about half a year before i can get a new one. Any help will be appreciated.
are you overclocking at all when you are experiencing the problem???
I have heard that overclocking to too high of a speed will cause the phone to go to a white screen..
just a thought
also, if you could, please list all third party apps and the current ROM you are running
.:Nstefanelli:.
Well i was overclocking to 260 using battery status, but i dont do that anymore,i am currently running the T-Mobile 2.26 official ROM, and i have these programs installed:
Wm5torage
Fizz Weather 2
TCPMP 0.81
Pocketdict
If you need some more info you can look at my signature too.

how do u do that ?
killerkhatiby009, you can check if it is a hardware problem by performing a remote control (PC controlling PPC, google for it) and start messing with your phone, see if the PC gives you the same problem.
IF the PC gives a good reading (e.g. no white screen) while the PPC gives you a white face, then it is probably the screen problem (not sure what).
IF both the PC and PPC gives you the white face, it is then either software error (hopefully so), OR internal harware error (e.g you've burned your microprocessor?).
Ok thanks for the help, ill go and try that ppc remote controll thing and report back.
Ok after testing it the PC comes up fine while the Pocket PC comes up white.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me, which may be a result of your constant overclocking. It may also be due to a bad switch in the keyboard slider.
You might want to contact your provider and see if the phone is still under warranty and/or if you can get a replacement.
Well my phone is no longer under warrenty, does anyone know of a way to fix my phone or get a replacement?
Hi,
Can someone tell me how to upgrade my IPL please ?
found my answer. Thanks anyway
I have the EXACT same problem
Ignore my signature - I downgraded back to the latest stock T-Mobile ROM. I see the same problem no matter what ROM I am running.
It is EXACTLY the same as you describe here. I can usually make it stop by pressing the sides together (holding the screen and keyboard slider tighly closed). Once it stops if I set it down and don't touch it it will work fine.
Also when I reboot the splash screen never has the problem - the problem starts as soon as WM boots.
So what did you have to do? Buy a new one? Or were you able to get service or an exchange?
It seems to be the mechanics of the display connector that are causing this. I looked in the service manual and it shows a stiff flat flex-cable connecting the keyboard to the screen, and it seems to me that this cable is the problem - either it is damaged or it is not fully seated on one end or the other.
I considered trying to dissassemble it and clean/reset connecters - for about a nanosecond. But it looks way too fragile and full of hidden little plastic hooks that will break off if you don't release each one in exactly the right way and then it will never go back together again.
Today I used the iGo8 GPS for a little bit just to get onto the freeway. The phone tends to go to sleep, and when that happens, it loses it's GPS signal. Since I was already on the freeway, I know my way around so I just let my phone sleep.
When I got home, I realized the bottom part of the screen, where you can scroll through home, people, messages, etc. is messed up. That part of the screen keeps flashing. AND the GPS screen got burnt into the screen, like how things burn into Plasma Screen TVs when you leave it there for a long time. But it's not a completely burn on, it is like a ghost affect.
I have soft resetted my phone. Doesn't work.
Anyone knows how to fix this problem?
Thanks.
I can post pictures/video if it will help.
Have you tried running igo again and closing it down properly?
Yeah, I closed igo properly. It's not just burnt in the igo screen new. It changes. Now it's the Today page. I can see the "Phone" and "Camera" buttons burnt into the lower part of the screen.
ROM Issue?
What ROM are you using? I always use EnergyROM and its a great ROM but it always does the same thing... i thought my phone was ruined the first time i saw this, but when i flashed to another ROM it all went away, im not sure if certain ROMs use different video drivers or what, but my problem atleast seems to just be with the ROM.
Good Luck!
use a all-black or all-white image(i think all black is betteR) and keep it on to try to reduce the burn it...
ohhh. I am using EnergyRom as well. I will change roms and see what's up.
the all black image seems to be a good idea.
Hi all
Recently started having this issue with my screen - haven't dropped it or anything either. On lighter colored backgrounds there are faint to pretty moderate horizontal lines flickering on the screen. The lines aren't colored or in one specific spot on the screen. It's hard to explain but it is similar to older projection tvs where there are those faint lines(static like) in the background.
I took a screenshot but it doesn't show the lines. I had been using Android Revolution HD 6.1 (great rom btw!!) and I've tried other roms since this began happening (thinking it was the rom) but to no avail. I'm currently running CM7.1.
Things I've tried:
changing roms
turning screen brightness up
turning on automatic brightness
turning down/off various animation settings
turning on light sensor filter in cm7 settings (helps a little)
If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading!
I would try unrooting, installing ruu from HTC website and see if problem is still there. If it is then you will be back to stock and can claim your warranty. If problem is gone then just reroot. This is a problem I have not read anywhere though so it is probably a hardware malfunction and would need to be warrantied.
Not a bad idea! I'll give it a shot and share the results once complete.
Installed stock RUU - screen lines still present so probably a screen hardware issue. Going to take it into the store tomorrow and see what they can do
Hi All,
I have looked around for a similar problem but could not find anything.
I have a problem with my screen on my HTC Sensation. I was using Virtuous ROM but when this started happening, I wiped with superscript and switched to Insertcoin ROM and the problem actually became worse.
When I lock my phone with the Power button, instead of the screen turning black instantly, the bottom and top of the screen slide up and meet in the middle (like a transition that you put inbetween chapters in a home made movie).
The same happens when I unlock the phone.. and it's very annoying and of course very slow.
I can't work out if it's hardware or not. I just recently edited the build.prop file (only removed the '#' from the screen capture line- which worked, didn't touch anything else)... and now when I unlock, the font and app icons seem a little enlarged and blurry.. then once I slide between screens and back it goes to normal.
I'm a noobie and would appreciate the help.
Thanks
Ginox
I always thought is was on purpose
No, this is very exaggerated and slow. Usually the phones screen goes off reasonably quick when you lock the phone (and vice versa with unlocking).
It sounds like you are describing the CRT animation for locking and unlocking, like an old TV turning on/off. Some ROMs include this by default. If the phone is running slow/sluggish it can look poor and cause other issues like the funky looking icons.

Hmm, it doesn't seem like that kind of problem... my phone runs reasonable fast.
Here's a video of it:

Can't direct link, please copy and paste.
Yup, thats the CRT animation, that's what its supposed to do. It must have been included with a ROM you installed by default. Like I said, its meant to look like you are turning on or off and old tube type television or computer monitor. Someone might have a flashable file out there for you to remove it, I don't know. At least now you can search "remove CRT animation" or something and see what you can get.
~T.J.
Oh really, thats interesting as I was pretty sure it done something similar on the previous Virtuous Rom.
Does anyone else out there have this feature on their Insertcoin ROM? (I've only ever had stock, Virtuous and Insertcoin).
I will have a search but if anyone knows the fix, please let me know
Hi there fellow robot lovers (or killers as it may be) !
Before we start, both identical phones (public mobile zte n762), both rooted, both booting normallish, meaning they get to keyguard screen, apps are starting, messages coming in, etc. Only one is activated, which would be the one with the broken screen, which boots fine, the touch membrane works, it's just the screen only displays pure white light, from total dark to overbright (meaning brighter than full brightness)
What I want from this one is an up to date backup that I might flash on the other one when its softish brick status is resolved.
Then, I can think of hacking the hardware itself, as in changing screen.
Goal for this one is to get a full backup so I can then mess around with it. Or if someone knows that the screen is not dead, since it does light up, I'm all ears on way to play with it. After a backup.
For the little history : I dropped my activated phone while trying to figure out the problem with the other one, to my great dismay and no immediate hilarity I had been running it for more than 4 months with a nasty crack on the screen, and it seems the dropping from a foot high the other night was the shock that sent it over the top.
Now it seems this can also be caused by software glitches ? aka White Screen Of Death
Now, the soft brick phone, which I got for nothing before it was thrown to the garbage (supposedly defective, it was just very barebones, and missing its sdcard)
Now, why do I say very softly bricked ? Well, it works, fully boots, and I sometimes manage to get a glimpse of the running OS "behind" the boot anim when I let if fully boot.
It's running a varianf of the Warp Cream sandwich rom for the n762, called Ice Cream Sandwich 420
It's like the boot anim is looping as an overlay over the running OS. Even managed to get Text+ in the foreground yesterday and chat with a buddy for a while.
Now, why didn't I just wipe it and reinstall ? For one, I thought [ I had no copy of the rom, just a cwm recovery backup once it started acting up.
Mostly, because the challenge in getting it (both phones if it so happens the screen on the other one can be brought back to normal operation) back to glorified PDA status without wiping it, as that's a bit like the good ole, reinstall DOS/Windows/etc. tech support level 1 answer, isn't it ?
So what options exist for soft brick to resume normal activities without wiping the whole thing ?
What could lead to the custom boot anim playing as an overlay to the OS ?
All ears and eyes on your suggestions, shouldn't be that hard for someone who knows, as I have read quite a bit of information that doesn't agree with each other...
