Hi,
Does anybody know when OVI MAP will be included in WP7?
Sorry, but I can't stand Bing Map anymore. Wasn't OVI Map suuposed to be part of the Mango update?
I think we should get it once the Nokia devices are out there.

Well it should be connected with Bing as one service AFAIK. Without any OVI name.
I didn't see a single rumour regarding this. Seeing how long it takes Bing to bring service to more countries I wonder if it will take a year to come.

The Nokiasoft deal went official when Mango was already well underway so Nokia has zero input in Mango. That said, they could still offer Ovi Maps as a Nokia app. Also remember they said Nokia apps won't be exclusive to Nokia phones so theoretically you could still get Ovi Maps on a Samsung/LG/HTC. As for proper integration into Bing, I'd say Tango or Apollo update.

It will probably be an application ...something like this

Thanks, so it means we will have to wait, wait and wait....
There´s another one already outhere, Navigon Select...
And it works very nice, no need for OVI Maps when having this one...

But navigon maps are good for US and Europe only. What about the rest of the world where Nokia maps is better for turn by turn voice nav?

I am in Taipei this week and there is a huge trade show going on. Don't know the exact name other than it is next door to the Grand Hyatt.
HTC has a very large both with engineers so I had the great pleasure of talking with the HTC Design engineering guys.
Some conversation points:
The HTC Touch Cruise/Polaris is unknown on actual launch dates.
The HTC Engineerins know that Taiwan is getting the Polaris devices sometime in February.
TomTom software may or may not be on the device. It depends on the carriers agreements and the distributors packaging, sku's, etc
There is a Google software is being looked at and HTC does have a dedicated engineer working with Google and the SDK package for future devices. I did ask if we would be able to upgrade current platforms to the Google phone software and I got a 'probably not' response. (At least I tried)
As promised - Pics -

Can you ask them if they thought Kaiser owners would use their GPS indoors when they blessed the device with transmissive LCDs
Sometime in February, damn HTC keeps pushing the release date away...
kinda silly to use google for gps if one
1. have to pay pr. mb downloaded
2. drive in places where gprs/edge/... is weak or absent

Exactly! This for me is the MAJOR question. Also about Kaiser....I'm still choosing which one shall I pick...
Please........try to clarify this issue once and for all....
I will try to back over there this evening to get a response on the DirectX question and the others.
Just to clarify, the Google SDK is for the new Google Cell Phone OS/ROM/Firmware. Not just GPS feature. It is called ANDROID and is the Mobile Phone Software that Google is hoping to be the alternative to WM5/6. Follow the embedded link to see the videos of the phone software.
I tried getting back over to the trade show but the engineers were already gone for the day. Sorry -
Better luck next time
ThankX for your effort anyway!
Bye!
This week CTIA Wireless 2008 trade show takes place (April 1-3, Las Vegas), that is one of the most important events, when it comes to wireless industry in USA, and it is USA where Nokia smartphones have rather tiny market share (elsewhere being market leaders) so no wonder, that Nokia has picked, of all trade shows, exactly this one, to reveal their first Windows Mobile phone - Nokia 61wm:

Interestingly, unlike Sony Ericsson, Nokia has picked touch-screen-less version of Windows Mobile - so called "Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard" (formerly known as "Microsoft smartphone" platform) and unlike Sony Ericsson Nokia intends to continue to use their Symbain S60 operting system for their flagship smartphones, and Windows Mobile will be used only for enterprise oriented customers in U.S. American market.
We must admit however, that Nokia 61wm (pictured above) is a rather underpowerd phone but it is a very important first step. Nokia has been licensing from Microsoft various kinds of technologies, including DRM, Windows Media formats, wireless ActiveSync (push e-mail) and Microsoft and Nokia even signed a deal about Silverlight for Nokia's Symbian S60 phones... so time was ripe to conclude this good cooperation with final step: Nokia licensing Windows Mobile.
More details about Nokia-Microsoft deal will be announced tomorrow at CTIA by Robert Bach from Microsoft, who will be giving keynote on 9:00am local time.
Stay tuned for our coverage!

Talk about irony ... the joke is now on Nokia.
I'm keeping an open mind and considering moving on ... to WM 7 or Android, which is why I joined this forum. But I sure wish Nokia could have figured things out after truly pioneering/pushing forward smartphones! They really lost their way.
nokia could have atleast gone the android way...why MS of all the people...is it because the present chief was connected to MS?? hmm...makes one wonder! <one more post for me>
hi,
I recently recently left WM (Touch HD) for an iphone (32GB 3GS)....however, I'm going to be switching back to WM as soon as the HD2 is available because as much as the iphone is an incredible interface...I find it's functionality to be lacking.
now, sadly...I have fallen in love with the apps store. I was amazed at the range and quality of the apps available...like the advert says, 'there's an app for that'. and it's true there is an app for just about everything...and I've found some great ones that I really want on my new WM device.
so, is there a site anywhere that will let me find WM comparable apps to the iphone? I can type in a name of an app available on the iphone and it will give me WM versions?
if not...should I build one? would anyone be interested such a site?
Microsoft is going to open their own "AppStore", called Marketplace for Windows Mobile, in two days.
The HD2 will already have it preinstalled.
However, it is not known currently how many applications will be there when it launches.
Apart from the built in Marketplace, you can find applications here at xda-developers and at sites like handango.com, mobihand.com, pocketgear.com, freewareppc.com and many others.
There's not as many applications for WM as there are for the iPhone, but since I recently switched back from the iPhone 3G to the Touch HD myself, I can tell you that I don't miss anything.
I think with WM6.5 and the Marketplace, the number of quality applications for WM will grow rapidly.
I am looking forward to the MS app store, as the iphone one is a dream to use. so I REALLY hope it's up to scratch.
I can think of a few apps that I'm going to miss hugely though.
1) facebook....considering how much MS paid for a piece of facebook, you would have thought that they'd built a decent app to give access to it
2) Sky tv. I have an iphone ap that allows me to scroll through program and then just select one to record...simples....however there is no such app available for WM sadly
Windows Mobile 6.5 actually has a decent Facebook app built in.
And the newest version of TouchFlo 3D, as you'll find it on the HD2, will take Facebook a lot further than what you can have on the iPhone, with direct integration into your contacts list (same for Twitter, Flickr and Youtube). This, like so many other things, will never be possible on an iPhone, because of Apple's restrictions.
Notice the Facebook logo among all the other WM apps:

I don't know what Sky tv is, so I can't help you with that one, sorry.
thanks for the pointer...I will have to apologise for mentioning the iphone so many times in my recent posts...I am a WM fan at heart, but I just hope it can become the all conquering OS that it should be.
and apple would be all conquering, IF they let people customise their phones instead of locking them all down.
still...come on HD2.....I am ready and waiting with cash!!
Hello,
Lately I bought my Sony Ericsson X10 mobile phone. I started installing my Applications on It, with Sygic Mobile navigator included on it. I installed version 8.06 on the phone which is officialy supported according to the website of Sygic for the X10. But when i start sygic it looks real bad. It looks as if the icons are in the wrong resolution, same to the map. It's best described as pixelized.
Does anyone have the same problem with sygic? Does anyone know a solution to this problem? First I had the same version running on Windows mobile on the same resolution but on the X10 it looks as if it has problems with projecting it on the screen.
I just checked the Sygic site and they're talking about upgrading from Mobile Maps 9 to Mobile Maps 10 for free. It sounds like your v8 is a bit out of date.
It could be that v8 has only basic compatability with large screen Android phones, while v9 or v10 are properly compatible?
I've got Sygic mobile maps 10 running on my X10,the warm signal lock time is about 5 secs and is very accurate, from a cold start it took approx 20 sec's to get a fix.

v8.0.6 is also known as mobile maps 10
Since I don't have it myself, it's an honest assumption to make that v8 comes before v9 and v10. If v8 is indeed Mobile Maps 10, then I don't know the answer.
According to the site they would support Android powered X10 devices. I have mailed them, but onto this moment no action or reaction. I will keep you posted (for those who are interested).

where can i download the sygyc for my xperia?? do you have romanian map?
You can download it directly from www.sygic.com.
The European maps version is €59.99 but Romania only has the transit roads covered. Smaller roads aren't covered.
If you're talking about getting it from somewhere else, remember that discussion about warez isn't allowed on this forum.
Thanks. but just know myself. If someone is asked to give me a pm.

strange to see that the maemo version covers 99% almost everywhere and even romania ist at 28% there.
Do you have any news from sygig. The poor icons/pictures quality make this program is not good looking. Otherwise, it is fast and is a good voice navigator system.

You certainly won't have had it as the same resolution on WM or any other device for that matter - the X10's resolution is 480 x 854... the closest you would have got is 480 x 800.
Therein I believe lies the problem - Sygic, just can't figure out those extra 54 pixels...
interestingly, browsing a few forums, I found Mobile maps shown with the right resolution for the x10 (854 x 480)

so there must be an update floating around somewhere...
Edit: Interestingly the x10 is no longer on their webisite as a compatable device...

At least not as of June 8, 2010
Any ideas?

Yeah but that mobile site is lacking so much. Although I might not use it as much as facebook, still would be good to see a 3rd party G+ app in the future maybe.

It's a pity that the good mobile version doesn't work properly (maybe because of IE9 in Mango?) - only the classic and that one is too limited.. I'm using the full version, even though it's not as comfortable to use, it does its job.
since G+ is not public i guess you will have to wait for release.
i dont know for sure, but i guess there are no apis yet for developers to write apps to use with the G+ Api. once Google releases that you will get a native phone app
you can upload photos to Google+ with a Picasa Photo Uploader App like "Phone Picasa". Then use Google+ in the Browser and comment this photo. It should be visible in the stream.
Implying google plus is actually worth using...
It'll come as a plugin to the Hubs eventually. But until then... are you really interested in your 10 circle friends which are posting the same things on Facebook?
It's still in testing, and needs some improvements. It does have potential though, and I do think it will compete well with FB.

Gotta agree with this. Even having tried it on my old touch pro with Android, I'm not seeing anything remarkable about G+ at all.
Guess that's lucky because if it takes off, we WP7 guys are screwed for decent support!
Its seems that the Google+ Mobile site is now compatible with IE:
http://www.wpcentral.com/google-mobile-site-now-compatible-ie
There were also some news about a Google+ app for WP7, but those turned out to be rumous.
Some fresh news:
http://mobilitydigest.com/is-that-google-on-a-windows-phone/
Kevin Marshall from Clarity Consulting just posted this screenshot. We’re trying to figure out what it is…well I mean aside from a Windows Phone 7 Google+ app of course.
It’s worth noting that Clarity are the developers of the official Facebook app…so let’s let the rampant speculation begin.

Kevin Marshall, Developer from Clarity Consulting has tweeted a screenshot of an app. The app looks like Google+ app for Windows Phone. For your information, Clarity Consulting is the dev behind Official Facebook app for Windows Phones.
The only issue for me is that, by the time the app comes to marketplace, Google+ may die. Most of the discussion on Google+ for the past few days has been, whether Google+ is dead or not.
