Hi -
first post - but I've been reading a lot.
I've rooted my xoom wifi us version, installed tiamat 2.1.0 rom and the tiamat 2.1 kernel - so far so good.
been playing around a bit, and was wondering if I can go back to the stock 3.2 Rom.
I'd like to remain rooted, and plan on still running the 2.1 kernal after I go back to the stock rom.
Is this possible?
can you point me to the right thread? or at least the right search terms, because I cant seem to find anything.
Flash official images. Get ota's and install them. Reroot/flash kernal etc.
I thought if I was rooted, then I can't flash the official image since the OTAs would not work?

No...once you flash the original stock images you will no longer be rooted. You will still be unlocked, just not rooted.

If you use the stock images, you will need to use fastboot.

Ok so i really want the new baseband on my g2x, i was waiting to see if a flashable would come out but so far nothing
i would like to know if these are the steps to get the baseband and root
1.Go back to stock
2.Get stock recovery
3.Download LG update tool (which i think is found here , http://www.lg.com/uk/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp)
4.Let it do its thing
5.When its done flash cwm
6.Flash a rom with root
And done? and i would like to know if that baseband can be used on 2.2.2
Watch and follow this video to get you back to stock.
http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/23/how-to-unroot-the-t-mobile-g2x/
Then run the update.
Then NVFlash
Then rooted rom by Xboarder.
Then do whatever you want.
do i have to re root after i flash the rom

Go to the dev section and downloaded xboarders rooted rom that includes the update and root. It is a zip that can be installed the normal way after you NVFlash.

But you don't get new baseband with it, do you?
Also does the mew baseband work with 2.2?

I nandroided to stock, unrooted, flashed stock recovery, updated to 2.3.3, using the horrible lg update tool. Then nandroided back to my to cm7 w/ Jul 15th baseband. All is well. Gps is fast as hell, locked in 10 seconds indoors to 4 meters.
Side note: i f#@ing hate the lg updater tool;( 45min of upluging and repluging my phone to get it to take the update. Horrible, i rather use odin.

After returning to stock, you run the LG update then you will have the new baseband. Then NVFlash. Then load the rooted rom.
Then you have new baseband and a rooted rom.
Hi all.
Recently used the LG software to update to the 2.3.3 GB release.
Like we all know, I lost my root.
I found a stock rooted 2.3.3 ROM that I want to use so that I can be rooted again.
Can I "Re-flash" the NVFlash on my non-rooted device?
Will it work to let me flash this new ROM? I've attempted to put NVFlash back onto my device, and it appears that it was successful. I'm nervous about trying to power-down and boot into CWM via NV. Can anyone confirm that this works?

That's how I rooted my G2x after ths update. Just make sure you can boot into recovery then backup, wipe data and install it normally. I was concerned about doing it too, but it worked perfectly normal. I used the 2.3.3 rooted rom. You can find it in the G2x development forum.
Let me know if you any questions.

Hey Donatello,
So, did you use the LG software first, and THEN NVFlash a new ROM?
Or did you just flash a 2.3.3 ROM in the first place?
I'm about to attempt the FIRST of those two. Am I understanding correct that is also what you did?
quick Q but nvflash now roots the device? but no SU is on it, i guess just download that from the market and we're done???
If this is the case I'm so happy cause superoneclick is very buggy to me!

You certainly can, in fact that's one of reccomended steps in getting root back is just reflashing cmw.

Here is the deal. Got my wifi only xoom (USA) when it was first released. Rooted shortly thereafter....one click method. Installed the tiamat 2.6.36.3 kernel. This prevented me from updating from android 3.0.1...which I'm still using. I didn't care until recently. My xoom is starting to act weird. Now xoom says I'm not rooted. Long story short. In the most simple terms (not good at this stuff). How can I catch up to the lastest version of android which I believe is 3.2? Thanks in advance.

Maybe there's an easier way, but you could go back to stock -- fastboot flash stock wifi images from moto dev (no need to relock, though) and let it OTA update to at least three-point-two. Then you can install a custom CWM recovery and flash a rom or kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242524
Tried this?
Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend that. People are having trouble with it breaking their wifi.

Do you have CWM recovery installed and have the use of your sdcard? If so, what version do you have? You actually may be able to flash the Tiamat Moray Rom which is the latest version and should give you the update. But you need the most recent solarnz cwm recovery R4c and you will need to do a wipe data/factory reset in recovery before flashing the rom from your external micro sdcard.
Hello guys
First of all, I'm new in here, so I don't know much stuff.
I recently got my transformer and wanted to check out the Android Revolution HD rom. Before flashing it, I made a backup using CWM.
I tried the rom (before installing it, yes, I did the superwipe thing) but didn't like it because the gps issues. I wanted to go back to stock and did again a superwipe and then made a restore from the backup.
When I rebooted my tablet, the configuration screen came up and started freezing and rebooting. I tried re-flashing the backup but it kept going on with the crashing and rebooting stuff.
I've been searching far and wide on how to go back to stock and I have found just the nvflash but my serial starts with B70 so I know I can't use it.
I decided to reflash Android HD Revolution because it's the only way the tablet will work, but I would love to go back to stock so I can use the gps properly.
So, Is there any way I can go back to stock? If this means something, I live in South America, so I assume I need a WW thing or whatever that means
Thanks in advance for your help
There's a flashable rooted stock ROM here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19093950
Thank you vyer much, I had seen that thread but since it said the following:
This will not work unless you have:
1. clockworkmod
2. STOCK firmware (root is fine)
3. the US or WW firmware
4. The appropriate prerequisite firmware (e.g. the latest firmware before this update)

I thought it wouldn't work.
Would you mind helping me understand the rules for flashing this version please? Right now I'm running Android Revolution HD 2.3.0
Thanks again!
Reboot into CWM recovery
Clear data and flash ROM. You can use Titanium backup to save apps and data if you don't want to lose anything.

In my understanding that is not a (complete) ROM but just an OTA update for a stock rom. Cannot be used to replace another ROM.
That's the same thing I understood from the ROM flashing rules.
I guess there's no stock rom that I can flash? It can't be (or can it?)
http://eeepadhacks.net/transformer-hacks/how-to-unrootunbrick-eeepad-transformer/
Steps 1 - 10 will get you a stock rooted ROM.
OK this is the link that has the full ROM. CWM flash-able.

thank you all for the answers!!!
Baseballfanz, I've already tried that one, but it didn't work. Thanks though.
Neidlinger, thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction! If I ever find another GPS problem (since I haven't found one since I reflashed Android Revolution) I will use this tutorial.
Thanks again
I am using the vhgomez ICS ROM. I want to just go back to stock, non-rooted GB to make a comparison.
When I re-lock the phone, I'll lose everything, right?

I believe you only lose everything when you unlock. Relocking will keep everything there. So wipe /data, /cache, /boot and /system, flash the stock rom then go back into the bootloader and "fastboot oem lock".
Why do you want to lock the bootloader though? It has no effect on performance and does NOT mean you are rooted. This only gives you access to flash a new recovery via fastboot.

That is a good question/point.
Once ICS OTA comes out, will I be able to receive the OTA if unlocked?
I have no problem unlocking it and re-rooting it in the future, I just want to bring this back to 100% stock to compare it to what I've been using.
You'll be able to receive the OTA just fine, though i would've just downloaded the OTA and flashed it manually regardless. If you just want to go back for comparison, there is no reason to lock the BL and making it more difficult by erasing all data later.
You can even make a backup with CWM of your unrooted stock GB ROM when unlocked so you can get back to the base ROM with your settings and apps directly available. You can even better compare by just switching CWM backups and run the same apps etc.
I think SComp23 just need to re-lock the BL to make it just like when it comes out from the box, right?
agree with Harbb..
just wipe them all.. then re-lock using fastboot and flash your GB ROM
There's fast boot images stickied in the dev section. Just follow Pete's instructions and you'll be back to stock gb.
*I'm a dumb ass. I forget these forums are shared. Pete's images are for ns4g

OK I have a question... basicly I really want the UK sky go app as I'm in the UK.... but it doesn't work on ics... so I was going to go back to gb just to watch sky go on the odd occasion and the rest of the time back to 4.0.3 ... can I do that through restore or will it cause issues
So basically flash stock gb .. use sky go... flash back to my backup of code name android + matrix ?
Doable ?

Just make two backups with CWM. One with all your apps on ICS, then one with all your apps on GB. Whenever you want to switch just restore the other, no more fiddling about.
Dual boot would be nicer, and there are some options, but i've not tried them and might be unstable or not provide a classic dual boot environment so to speak.
Yep that's what I wanted to hear ... where can I get 2.3 for 9020
All the ones iv seen cone with stock recovery and non rooted

I've not tried too many GB ROMs to judge, but i hear Oxygen based ROMs (which i intend to test eventually) were great, and obviously CM7 is up there. But you can just flash the bog-stock ROM, then just flash su.zip and fastboot CWM for your recovery. Set it all up, and THEN do a backup with all of your apps and settings ready to go. The same applies with ICS, of course.
Ah kool I see . So I have to set it all up first with recovery then backup....
Where can I get bog stock for 9020 though Europe version
Or is there not just a rooted gb stock rom that I could use ?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
i9023 Stock ROMs
Grab the 2.3.6 GB FULL ROM. Then download the latest Superuser.zip, wipe, flash ROM, flash su.zip, reboot and rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to something else, then go back to bootloader and fastboot CWM again. I dunno if there is a rooted stock 2.3.6 anywhere, but i know that ROMs like Oxygen or CM7 are pre-rooted.
this is for 9023 though... im on 9020?
im also having manjor issues with my ADB atm as well. it worked fine before i installed the windows 8 preview... now i cant get it to work
The Europe version is the i9023 (SC-LCD), isn't it? Regardless, links to each Nexus S version here. Choose which is appropriate, and check behind the battery if necessary.
not sure mine is def the 9020 super amoled version though, thanks for the help. but ic ant adb atm
