Need a little help - T-Mobile LG G2x

Ok so i really want the new baseband on my g2x, i was waiting to see if a flashable would come out but so far nothing
i would like to know if these are the steps to get the baseband and root
1.Go back to stock
2.Get stock recovery
3.Download LG update tool (which i think is found here , http://www.lg.com/uk/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp)
4.Let it do its thing
5.When its done flash cwm
6.Flash a rom with root
And done? and i would like to know if that baseband can be used on 2.2.2

Watch and follow this video to get you back to stock.
http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/23/how-to-unroot-the-t-mobile-g2x/
Then run the update.
Then NVFlash
Then rooted rom by Xboarder.
Then do whatever you want.

Go to the dev section and downloaded xboarders rooted rom that includes the update and root. It is a zip that can be installed the normal way after you NVFlash.

But you don't get new baseband with it, do you?

Also does the mew baseband work with 2.2?

I nandroided to stock, unrooted, flashed stock recovery, updated to 2.3.3, using the horrible lg update tool. Then nandroided back to my to cm7 w/ Jul 15th baseband. All is well. Gps is fast as hell, locked in 10 seconds indoors to 4 meters.
Side note: i f#@ing hate the lg updater tool;( 45min of upluging and repluging my phone to get it to take the update. Horrible, i rather use odin.

After returning to stock, you run the LG update then you will have the new baseband. Then NVFlash. Then load the rooted rom.
Then you have new baseband and a rooted rom.

[Q] NVFlash on UN-rooted 2.3.3?

Hi all.
Recently used the LG software to update to the 2.3.3 GB release.
Like we all know, I lost my root.
I found a stock rooted 2.3.3 ROM that I want to use so that I can be rooted again.
Can I "Re-flash" the NVFlash on my non-rooted device?
Will it work to let me flash this new ROM? I've attempted to put NVFlash back onto my device, and it appears that it was successful. I'm nervous about trying to power-down and boot into CWM via NV. Can anyone confirm that this works?

That's how I rooted my G2x after ths update. Just make sure you can boot into recovery then backup, wipe data and install it normally. I was concerned about doing it too, but it worked perfectly normal. I used the 2.3.3 rooted rom. You can find it in the G2x development forum.
Let me know if you any questions.

Hey Donatello,
So, did you use the LG software first, and THEN NVFlash a new ROM?
Or did you just flash a 2.3.3 ROM in the first place?
I'm about to attempt the FIRST of those two. Am I understanding correct that is also what you did?
quick Q but nvflash now roots the device? but no SU is on it, i guess just download that from the market and we're done???
If this is the case I'm so happy cause superoneclick is very buggy to me!

You certainly can, in fact that's one of reccomended steps in getting root back is just reflashing cmw.

That's good, at this point you can safely put any pre-rooted rom you want including the pre-rooted GB 2.3.3 one from xboarders

[Q] So is there no one?

Working on a root option for G2x gingerbread? It seems that there was a root before the phone was even released. But now that ginger is out its a no go? Is this phone not getting any love from any of the wonderful hardworking guys that do such great work? I know I should of just went with a custom Rom. But I hate this bloat which is killing my battery life. Telnav, Carhome, ect.... Thank you in advance.
Flash Xboarder's Stock OTA 2.3 Rom which is rooted. Boom you're rooted. You can then change to any ROM that you want and your phone will stay rooted.

That would be great if I could flash a new rom. I cannot get NvFlash to work. Nor can I get the phone to boot into recovery since the ginger update.
Then you did something wrong. I suggest rereading: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
and see where you went wrong. You should have no problems flashing cwm recovery whether you updated or not.

No OTA after Root?

I used the 1-click method to root my phone. When I do the software update it goes as far as downloading the update, then my phone reboots. And for some reason when it reboots it reboots into recovery. Then I reboot my phone and when it loads it says update failed. The update is 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 I'm assuming. The reason I make this assumption is just because my wife and I got the same phone on the same day and hers updated and mine didn't. I rooted, she didn't. I read something about having to have all your original apps installed when I did a search, but I have removed any of the bloatware or any other apps as of yet. Thanks for the help in advance!
To Take the OTA you need Stock recovery, not CWM there is a thread with the Stock recovery you can flash in Odin to get the OTA to install
Check out this link to another post on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360943&highlight=stock+recovery+odin
this should be what you need to take the 2.3.6 OTA (which really isn't all that worth it, so if you're happy with 2.3.5 i would stay there until an ICS OTA comes)
Would a factory reset go back to stock recovery?

No a Factory reset just resets the user data not the recovery or system information

My understanding was that 2.3.6 implemented a new modem that improved the performance of the phone. I personally have great service compared to my Tmobile that I just bought out my contact on. Just wondering how much better that update would make my phone.

If your rooted you can just flash the 2.3.6 radio in cwm... Or even a 2.3.6 ROM (MHX superlite 3.1 final was my GB ROM of choice)
There is a radio thread and also info in the all in one sticky thread.

OS changed before flashing

Hi everyone i have never flashed before.
I have atrix2 att 2.3.5.
I deleted bloatware and wanted to goto stock and then start applying roms.
I followed the guide for flashing and installed bootstrap, CWM, and J.Y.Daddy's BOOT INTO CWM RECOVERY ON BOOT, and also reset.zip.
Knowing that without bloat there is no chance to go 2.3.6 i followed these steps but when i booted the phone it has a new notification bar etc, but when i checked the about phone iam at 2.3.6
55.13.25
build number is SuperCharged V 5 Update1
So what now? is it normal, or am i in a bad situation?

Along with just about every custom rom comes custom status bar icons, UI look/feel, etc. This is all a part of running custom roms rather than using stock Moto rom. Don't worry, this is what happens!

True, but I am not sure he knew he flashed a rom.
You may have problems because you just installed a 2.3.6 system on top of a 2.3.5 kernel, among other parts. I did this forever, and it had some issues.
What you should do is fxz back to stock 2.3.5 (read the noob guide, this has been said how to do way to many times, if you don't understand it, search and read more). Then you can do the OTA update and install a rom again if you want.
Yes, i did not flash any rom yet, i was installing the CWM recovery on boot so i would not be in trouble if ever i flashed a rom, but iam already at 2.3.6 some how.
If this 2.3.6 has everything the ota 2.3.6 has then i can stay with this, if not then i will have to fxz stock 2.3.5 and ota again and will have to restore everything :s

Flashing back to stock with cwm?

I am currently on CleanRom 2.1 with the G7 radio. I'm looking to flash to CleanRom 2.5 and I want to start off with a G7 base.
I am planning on flashing back to stock using Adam Lange's linked rom here,
Can I flash using cwm (his instructions link to odin)?
I plan on the following
1) re-lock the bootloader
2) Boot to cwm and wipe/clear caches
3) flash the kernel he links to
4) flash the rom he links to
5) flash the G1 radio.
At that point I presume I am back in a condition to take the OTA.
I also see another set of back to stock instructions from droidstyle here. He has a different link to the stock rom (also odin instructions). I presume his method includes the kernel with the rom.
I've gotten by without odin to this point and would like to keep it that way (one less program / interface to deal with.)
It's been rebuilt already on the G7 base as of 9/25. Flash away.......

No those are odin packages. Also those are the F2 bases which was used when the phone was first sold. Follow droidstyles instructions as he explains it very easy. Short as i can be, lock the bootloader, shutdown and then start up in download mode, open odin and plug your phone into your computer, click on pda and browse to the stock file you downloaded and click start. Then do a factory wipe and do a update once you boot into your phone to upgrade to the current G7.
You are fine doing a OTA from the F2 base so flashing to a G1 modem do a OTA isnt needed
In short no you will have to use odin. You will not be able to use CWM to flash those img files

Even though it isn't necessary, Scott and one other poster are making a case for getting the G7 base with the OTA before flashing. I would much rather just go from 2.1 to 2.5 without the hassle of going via the OTA.
If I skip the OTA, I'll just have to come to peace with that nagging ... "would my performance / battery life really be better if..."

Thanks for the confirmation on odin - I was afraid of that. I surprised someone hasn't made a stock image to use with cwm. And thanks for clarity on not having to go to the G1 modem.
Odin isnt hard at all to use and doesnt take all that long, roughly 8 mins for me. Do you have to use odin?, no. You can just flash a stock kernel then just use cwm to install 2.5. But the lastest G7 kernel isnt available to flash as i remember yet. I would recommend you odin to stock then take the ota, root, unlock, flash recovery, flash 2.5

That is my plan. The time consuming part is just downloading all the components (slow connection) and getting familiar with Odin. But that is just a one time thing. I've managed to avoid it this far... but now I am familiar enough with all the steps that it's no big deal. I might even have to stop calling myself a noob.
