Hello guys
First of all, I'm new in here, so I don't know much stuff.
I recently got my transformer and wanted to check out the Android Revolution HD rom. Before flashing it, I made a backup using CWM.
I tried the rom (before installing it, yes, I did the superwipe thing) but didn't like it because the gps issues. I wanted to go back to stock and did again a superwipe and then made a restore from the backup.
When I rebooted my tablet, the configuration screen came up and started freezing and rebooting. I tried re-flashing the backup but it kept going on with the crashing and rebooting stuff.
I've been searching far and wide on how to go back to stock and I have found just the nvflash but my serial starts with B70 so I know I can't use it.
I decided to reflash Android HD Revolution because it's the only way the tablet will work, but I would love to go back to stock so I can use the gps properly.
So, Is there any way I can go back to stock? If this means something, I live in South America, so I assume I need a WW thing or whatever that means

Reboot into CWM recovery
Clear data and flash ROM. You can use Titanium backup to save apps and data if you don't want to lose anything.

In my understanding that is not a (complete) ROM but just an OTA update for a stock rom. Cannot be used to replace another ROM.
That's the same thing I understood from the ROM flashing rules.
I guess there's no stock rom that I can flash? It can't be (or can it?)

Hi, new Android user here.
I was trying to root my Nexus S phone yesterday and I'm having problems. There is a lot of rooting guides out there and I used one from xda and also one from unlockr.com. Managed to root the phone ok (I think), but everytime I flash a custom ROM, the phone won't start at all, it just sits at the boot up screen and repeats itself.
So I'm thinking, I should just start over again. So I flash the stock ROM from xda back to 2.3.1. Everything seems ok, the phone starts up... but it's always stuck on airplane mode and the phone itself doesn't even show stuff like IMEI, mac address anymore.
So now I figure I've probably messed the phone up enough and need help lol. How do I go about reflashing the stock ROM and getting my Nexus back to out of the box condition (Stock ROM and no custom bootloader)?? Any guides or step by step instructions would be very helpful.

Maybe flashing the KB2 modem would help that but the 9020a came stock with 2.3.3 and not 2.3.1 so that could be it...I'm not sure but that software wasn't meant at all for ours so it could be part of the problem. But if I was you I'd take a look at this thread wich has all the stock software for your phone. Move the zip file to sdcard. Boot into recovery and flash the ROM. It should get you back to stock 2.3.4 ROM, all locked.

that did the trick. thanks everyone, now time to try rooting and flashing ROM again!
hrm lol now trying to update it to 2.3.4, it downloaded the update, but on reboot i get the white triangle with ! in it :\
this phone is so messed now
edit: well now everything is ok again, wiped data, flashed with CM7 and now it says 2.3.4, go figure.

I'm sorry about my stupid question but I really don't know nothing about that . I had rooted and flashed my NS and installed the matr1x kernel (very good btw), and now I knew that JB will be available to NS. My question is, need I back to stock kernel to receive the update?

You have to understand that installing an OTA (official update) on a rooted device regardless of what kernel can cause problems, as it did with my Nexus S before. I suggest you make a NANDroid backup at all times before you install any ROMs, official or Custom. You can also use Titanium backup and others.
There's still a slight while until the new JB 4.1 comes out. It's suggested that you install a Custom JB 4.1 ROM for your Nexus S as though you don't cause any problems. I think it's OK if you do it with the kernel pre-installed. But people always install the Custom ROM THEN they install the Kernel, I think installing a new ROM always overwrites the kernel, if it comes with it.
EDIT:
In short, wait for the JB Custom ROM and you don't have to revert back to stock kernel, when you do the update it will automatically overwrite. Most Custom ROMs come with Stock/ordinary kernels. So then the user can flash whatever kernel they like in your case, matr1x.

I didn't any backup before flashing a new kernel :crying:, so what can I do now if I want my stock kernel back?? What's a NANDroid (I know that is a tool but how can I do it?) ? Is Titanium bkp easily?

A NANDroid backup is a internal memory backup. You can create one by booting into Recovery (Power off your phone and Hold Power and Down on your volume buttons.) If you rooted your phone and unlocked your bootloader (that's what you had to do to flash a new kernel), you should be able to load ClockworkMod or TeamWin Recovery and do a backup of your phone.

There's one rom but it's a port from the SDK and the amount of major bugs is high so it's not recommended but you could try another custom rom meanwhile, I can't go back to stock after trying custom roms, like AOKP and Cyanogenmod 9. Make sure you backup your apps and some settings (not everything will be compatible between stock and custom so pay close attention to which system setting you'll backup) with Titanium Backup.
To sum it all up for you
There's a Jelly Bean release which is unstable and has no sound, and will not be fixed until the REAL version comes out.
NANDroid backs up the whole internal memory on the phone including the system, it can be done from clockworkmod recovery.
Titanium backup, backs up specific settings and information that you choose, available from the playstore.
You don't need to unroot or go back to a STOCK kernel in order to flash a CUSTOM ROM. DO not however flash a STOCK rom after rooting, as at times that can cause problems.
If you want to go back to a STOCK ROM after rooting a device, there's a way, check this guide

and choose your Nexus S model: To acquire model, go to Settings - About - Baseband version. if it says I9023 at the start that's your Nexus S's model
Choose one of the Fastboot Stock ROMs and use the Fastboot method to flash the ROM. That is a good way to go back to STOCK ROM if anything bad happens
By the way you should expect the new OTA official 4.1 update for the Nexus S to be on your model's page.
NOTE: Using Fastboot to flash a ROM is very clean. However this will delete all your data and if you do everything correctly will lock your bootloader and unroot your phone. So use Fastboot only when you really feel the need to.

OK first off, do not install the update using the system update method from about, as that is a 100% stuff up if you're still rooted or on a Custom ROM.
However to update I think flashing a stock ROM but USING Clockworkmod works fine!
Someone please confirm, as I am not 100% sure
However what I am sure about is that if you run into any troubles installing your STOCK ROM using Fastboot is very very good and clean, however there are 2 things:
1. You will wipe everything COMPLETELY
2. You need the ROM to be in a fastboot format kind of way for you to flash it

Personally I will wait for a custom ROM for 4.1 if it doesn't take too long as that's guaranteed and will obviously be faster and safer to install on a ROOTED device.

1)Is rom manager compatible with Atrix 2??
im asking this because when i open it, it shows u need to install CWM recovery...but no option in that responds...not even intall cwm (1st option in menu)....so i installed CWM using atrix boot strapper app and now still rom manager is not detecting CWM..please help
2)after installing CWM, i had backup my present stock rom..so if i flash a new rom now will that CWM and back up still exist??(because we will wipe data which will remove everyhting right??)
for suppose if i flash jelly bean rom and if i dont like it...can i restore my previous stock rom without bricking my device??

Rom Manager does work with Atrix2. If you're on Stock ICS, you can install CWM on every boot, then flash the Bionic recovery through Rom Manager. That will allow you to use the 1 touch backup in RM, just hit backup rom and everything does what it's supposed to.
Here is the CWM on every boot for Stock ICS.

No, your Recovery will be wiped after you flash a new rom, but you can install it again and restore your ROM.
But when restoring a rom, make sure you ARE ON THE ROM you are restoring.
E.g. If you flash JB and want Stock ICS back with your backup. First flash the Stock ICS from RSD and then restore your backup from CWM on it.
Or Vice-Versa.

I don't think any recovery exist after flashing a new rom. We have a locked bootloader, so we can't replace the stock recovery.img, all of our recoveries hijack the boot process to work. CM10 and PA I believe have a built in recovery, and that's about as close as you'll get to having a recovery exist after flashing a rom.
As far as restoring from JB, I believe you can downgrade to ICS, but you'll have to look at the JB thread to be certain. I'm on AT&T so I haven't had an opportunity to try JB (officially). CM10 is based on JB, but for our phone with the locked bootloader, it's more of a pseudo experience and is based on our ICS framework.
As for bricking, there is always a chance to brick, that's part of the mod game, but if you read and pay attention to what you have and what you're doing, you'll be alright.

UNLESS you have AT&T phone you should be just fine with ref lashing the ICS.
YES. there is a big problem if you are not on a ROM you are restoring.
Its like you are trying to comlete your jigsaw puzzle by putting pieces from some another jigsaw puzzle.

You need to use the CWM on every boot setup, the Atrix2Bootstrap alone won't do.

yes...my phone is an AT&T version...though im using it with IDEA.....
so if i install CWM on every boot,then rom manager will detect it and work right??

Yes. I will say though, if you're on an AT&T branded phone with AT&T firmware, do NOT try to flash the new JB FXZ. It doesn't matter who your carrier is, it matters what firmware your phone is using. So, if you're on AT&T then you need to make sure that the things you flash are for AT&T, or else you will brick and that will be then end of that.

MIUI (had battery issues, but I think they got it all worked out)
there's a few, you'll just have to look. Most of the time, if something is not meant for AT&T, the devs will post in the description that it isn't compatible. If you want stock ICS back at anytime, you can do yourself a favor and make a backup of your stock ICS all setup the way you like it, so you can restore if needed. If all else fails, there is an Official ICS FXZ that will get you back to stock ICS.

You're killing me smalls. You're on ICS already, you're not downgrading anything, nor can you downgrade ie. Gingerbread. There is no Official JB for AT&T, so that's not an issue. CM10 is a JB based rom built on an ICS frame, (for our phone at least), and again, you're not downgrading.
To make a back up, boot in to CWM or whatever recovery you're using (not stock), and click backup. You might hit up the noob thread to get an idea of the terminology and basics for our device. Not trying to be rude, but you're running yourself in circles. You got to walk before you can run.
First off, I just switch to my first android phone from iOS, so although I have plenty of experience jailbreaking and unlocking over there, I'm new to this, so hand-holding is appreciated
I have a developer XT926 phone. Fastboot says it's unlocked with status code 1. It came running 4.0.4, and I rooted it using motofail2go. I now want to install CyanogenMod 10.1 (or some other version 4.2 rom that you guys think is better), as described here. However, I have been unable to find detailed instructions on how to install it after booting into recovery mode. (I'm guessing those steps are well-know on xda, but forum and google searches didn't help.)
Additionally, since I have an unlocked dev phone, can I install one of these unsigned roms directly, or will I need to first install clockworkmod, safestrap, etc (and if so, any advice on which one).

You need to install a custom record very like twrp or cwm. Either is fine and you can easily switch later if you want to try them both out. Once you have your custom recovery installed, you'll need to boot into recovery. From there you will v be able to backup your current setup followed by a factory wipe and ROM install. Good luck

Thanks. So I have twrp installed and working, and made a successful backup. I was about to install CW 10.1, when I noticed comments that it seems to have a lot of issues. What rom would you recommend I install? Liquidsmooth? Eclipse? CM 10.1 anyway? Thanks again!

So like the title says I have been out of the ROM game for a little bit. Every couple of months I check in and see whats new and flash something else.
I was on the Jelly Beans ROM (Build 16 I think) and Android 4.1. I did some searching last night as was going to try flashing Gummy ROM…bad idea. I am guessing I needed something prior to jumping up to a 4.4 base. I booted to recovery and wiped everything and tried to flash with no luck. So the phone would not boot and I could only get into recovery and download mode. I did not have my micro SD adapter in order to get jelly beans back on it to flash so I ended up having to use odin to flash a stock rooted 4.1 image. Finally got everything back up and running but I still want to try some of the 4.4 ROMs. So what exactly do I need first in order to flash one? (Modem maybe)…if you know for sure why that happened and what I need to do please let me know. Thanks!

you need the latest recoveries to flash kk roms. cwm is here https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
and twrp is here http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/102. make sure you download the d2vzw version
if you're rooted you should have no problems flashing 4.4 rom. I recommend beanstalk from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354113. has worked great for me. you have to also update the modem to ML1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313
as always do a nandroid before you do anything and you should backup your sd card to your computer. they probably will move post this to another thread.

if you're rooted you should have no problems flashing 4.4 rom. I recommend beanstalk from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2354113. has worked great for me. you have to also update the modem to ML1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313

ahh I didn't even think of that? I do know for a fact whatever version of CWM i had was not recent..Are you sure that is the only issue? so with a newer recovery...like I have now that I fixed my phone..I can flash a 4.4 ROM no problem? I could have sworn I remember hearing something about needing a certain modem...or something similar

yes. flash the ML1 modem. I provided the link in my previous post. it's a fact that earlier recoveries won't flash kk roms. I found out the hard way myself. hopefully you'll have titanium or rom toolbox to backup your apps with data.

Thanks a lot!!.. So how do I know if my recovery is new enough? I was never a fan of the touch recoveries because I felt like it would be easier to do something on accident so I haven't tried one in a while...I am using clockwork mod recovery 6.0.4.5. Is that new enough??
Also one lasttttt question I swear...can someone give me a quick list of the different recovery options that are out there now...and maybe list some features of each...thank you

that recovery is fine. i've only used cwm and twrp.. had some problems with philz recovery so I ditched it. basically they're all the same. twrp lets you name your back where as cwm just uses some default name which of course you can change with a file manager. twrp also wipes all 3 (system, cache and dalvik) with one swipe where as cwm requires 3 separate operations. I really haven't done much in recovery other than wiping and flashing. I'm actually on the latest twrp and have had no problems flashing kk roms. keep in mind that you can't backup in cwm and restore it using twrp and vice versa. it's really more a personal preference as far as I'm concerned.
