Help! "No SIM Card" - HTC Inspire 4G

I recently had my screen fixed, and now my phone is horrible! It has no G-Sensor calibration at all, no vibration, the camera is just a black screen, and it randomly loses signal and says "No sim card, please insert"! (Not to mention the case is all bent. This guy was HORRIBLE)
I had a new SIM put in, and it's still doing it! If you guys have any idea on how to fix this, or my other issues, please help me out! Thanks.
(I've flashed ROM's/Radio's/Kernals so many times.. it does nothing. Running CM7 156 nightly atm though..)

The thing is, the guy had me sign a "warranty" for only 10 days. It's been about 15 now, and I won't be able to go to the store until Monday.. so I don't know if he'll just be like "It's not my problem", or what. Could result to force ?
He works at an AT&T store and does repairs on the side, btw.
(Payed $200 to this kid, I didn't want to try fixing it myself and mess it up more, so I had him do it. I could of done a better job..)

You should have posted a question in the Q an A section if you should trust this guy...200 is wayyy too much and he even made you sign something. He is a scammer that knows how to do his job well. also it is not like you can go to the store and be like, "he fu**ed up my screen, i want a replacment."
Considering he opened up the phone I believe that voids the warranty and you will not even be able to contact HTC for a replacement...

:/ So.. what should I do? Go in there monday and talk to him? I can sure try saying that (Or like, "fix my phone, it wasn't like this before, or take your screen back and give me a refund..")

If you had a 10 day warranty you should have returned the phone back to him within 10 days. Why wait 15? I believe ATT/HTC would have fixed it cheaper than $200. Your warranty will be void now with ATT/HTC. So now you can either pay HTC to fix it, pay a real phone repair service, or buy another phone.
To attempt to fix the no sim put a piece of tape on the back of the sim card. It has been noted that the sim slot may be loose on some phones and not enough pressure is exerted for a good connection with the contacts.

He probably just forgot to tighten a screw or two. He'll probably fix it for you if you go back and mention it to him nicely, assuming he's a decent human at all.

The warranty was just if the screen were to crack again and such, (as he explained it), because the phone had no problems whenever I gave it to him. It was perfectly fine, I just didn't like the cracked screen.
Upon purchase, he told me the camera didn't work (black screen) because of a 'software issue', and to just flash the kernel and it would fix it. I never got around to doing that for those ~15 days, and didn't use the phone at all. I then got time, and rooted/flashed everything and it didn't fix the camera, and I noticed all these problems when I started to use it.

Screen damaged...Need to flash ATT SPL!!

I flashed the HTC factory rom a few weeks back, and now (not because of the flashing) my screen is broken. I think I sweat on it and it has caused the connectors to be intermitent. The water damage sticker is luckily still white I have alreay flashed the ATT stock back onto the unit, but without screen viewability, I can't run KAIS-SPL. You can here the ATT swoosh sounds on startup. The screen works about 5% of the time, so do I chance sending it back with HardSPL still on it as they might not be able to verify. The 5% chance scares me. Is it possible to put ATT SPL without having the screen work? Lastly, is there a command line interface to remotely activate KAIS-SPL?
Thanks,
brux2dc
FYI. This unit is still within the 30 days, but i am sure they will check it before issuing a credit.
get it replaced. try in store first since you're within ur 30 days.
if you need to go through warr exchange, have no fear. ive sent back 6 kaisers lol
one had a chunk missing outta the corner. another, the pixels went green and wack. another had a replaced screen and that screen had an "oil" spot and the hinge was all loose. no fees.
the only thing i would worry about is them replacing the screen and seeing salt from your sweat. even water leaves a green residue at times on electronics.
oh, and if you dont wanna do that, you can grab a refurb from ATT or another seller for cheap. all my refurbs were lnib
Yeah, I bought mine over the internet through the FAN site. Unfortunately It would be easy to show the clerk in a store how messed up this phone is. I"ll just send it without worrying about the SPL. I haven't seen the screen all day, so I guess it is FUBAR!
6 phones? Is this phone really that crappy quality wise? Should I get a different phone. Although this phone has everything I could want in a phone (for the time being )
Thanks

This phone is NOT CRAPPY (except the video DRIVERS).
It actually depends on people's use. I personally keep my phones away from all the hazards and on cases (leather, silicone...) If anything happens to it its just BADLUCK.
My opinion is If you are happy with your phone then do not get a different one.
This would work, if you could install it...
There is a program that might help you, SOTI pocket controller pro. It will let you control your phone from the computer... the only problem is installing it. You would need to be able to hit the check box. It might be possible to have it installed automatically with UC, but another, more knowledgeable member would need to give advice for this one.
If you do get the program on your phone, you should be able to revert it to factory. As another post already said, you may be fine anyway as I doubt a new phone under warranty will be heavily scrutinized by ATT.

this is false, when i freshly flash a new device and it dont have soti installed then i just open soti on the computer and hit connect. It then installs the cab with no prompts. SOTI would work very well in this instance!
wow 6 phones, and here i'm getting mad about 4, i'm still waiting for att to send me one that works, i guess my 4 isn't that bad at all.
and at op sogun is correct, SOTI works great used it to take the contacts off my hermes when the screen broke. but i took that phone apart to the mother board and did it that way cause i couldn't remember how to put it back together
thanks for the help.
I'll look into SOTI.

[Q] Should i get a new replacement Captivate?

I was up at the AT&T store today to discuss some overcharges on my bill and during the conversation I mentioned my gps not working. The guy at the store acknowledged it was a problem but was under the impression that JH7 fixes it...which it doesn't. Long story short, I've been offered a replacement handset at the store level, brand new in the box, not a refurb.
So the question is, do I take him up on it? My gps is like most everyone elses and not all that useful and occasionally there's a phantom press of the search button. Those are the only problems I've had.
So, what's the likelihood that a new-in-box captivate will have the same GPS problem? Anything else I need to consider as I decide?

I'd keep the GPS issue rather than risking the random shut offs. Just my opinion though, especially since I am about to return my second captivate due to random shut downs.
Just wanted to followup on this. I did swap out my captivate for a new one at my local AT&T store. I even got the manager to put in writing that if I continued to have problems that I could switch to a different model.
The new captivate handset did the random poweroff trick three times the day after I brought it home. In an attempt to fix it I drained the battery and let it charge back up over night and haven't had a problem since.
GPS is also MUCH better than what it was on my original handset but still not perfect as it 'teleported' me from one road to another a few times using Navigation. I do however get a quick lock using only satellites and GPSStatus shows while driving that I was locked on to between 5 and 10 satellites with the norm being 8. With my original I'd lose a lock on all satellites once I started moving, so while not perfect, this is definitely better than my original.
Thanks for your input.
Man this GPS really frustrates me. I used to have your quality GPS and now it is broken. Thinking of flashing to stock and trying to.exchange it

I was under the impression that if you exchange a phone through ATT they will send it to the Samsung service center, and there they threaten that if they find nothing wrong with it they will charge you $600.
This has always intimidated me since I only paid $60 and I don't want like not being in control of something (like whether or not they will charge me).
Is it really this easy to exchange for a broken GPS?

The only time you risk being billed for a new phone at full price is if you send it back with problems, and there was physical damage or you're rooted and messed with things or running a custom rom. Now it's not guarenteed that they will bill you but i'd imagine that the likelihood increases.
As far as returning phones past the 30 day window it usually isn't a problem if you speak calmly to a manager. Explain that you have tried all of the fixes that Samsung has offered, nothing has worked, and you believe you were sold a defective product with which you are unhappy.

It was for me...but I think that was largely because both the rep I talked with and the manager were aware of the GPS problems. I tried doing the exchange while the rep I had been working with was at lunch and got fed the "exchanges can only be done within the first 30 days of purchase" line by another rep. I came back later in the day and talked to my original rep who brought over the manager and it was smooth sailing after that. If you can believe it, the manager even apologized for the problems I had with the phone.
Worst case, have the manager at your local store browse this forum or do a little googling and he'll quickly see how widespread this problem is. And be sure you have the stock JH7 loaded up; that was the one check that the rep did when we started talking about an exchange.
looks like I spoke too soon - 3 random shutdowns today. Now to decide if I want to try a 3rd Captivate or jump ship and go with the HTC Surround. And here I thought I was done with all my research for a year or two.

As mentioned before it is easy to swap for gps issues and the $600 is only if you did something bad. If you rooted the phone you can restore to stock using 1-click odin and master clear, it passed scrutiny on my case (disclaimer: can't guarantee it would for you).

Captivate running Axura
I'm glued to this thread like a good tv series ahemm. I've had the exact same issue(s), namely the random search pop-up. It drove me crazy for quite some time, I could even shake the phone without touching any buttons and the search dialog would present itself (sometimes other apps popped-up). I eventually read up on roms and now run perception b8. I ran cognition previously, but experienced 2 deal breakers issues (bluetooth and radio problems). As for the search dialog, it no longer occurs. While on cognition I did experience two random shutdowns, and I thought the battery ran down in a hurry, just a beep and short vibrate and it was deadso. If you stay with the cap, read up on perception stat.

THanks, this helps. It's good to know a) whether they let you swap for gps issues and b) whether they check really hard or flash to stock odin lets you do it.
i appreciate your feedback.
i had a bad case with best buy where i returned a broken item and they claimed it was fine... it was broken... but they said it worked okay... had to pay a fee to get it back.. now i'm kinda paranoid about returning items for "subjective" issues (i.e. not a hard brick)
Quick update to the saga....on my 3rd captivate, worst one yet. Seems to poweroff if i set it down for more than 30 minutes. I've had it 3 days and i lost count of the poweroffs around 14 or 15.
Learned they will only exchange at the store 3 times, so i was advised to call customer care and/or samsung to have a fresh from the factory handset (see the poweroff press release thread) sent to me. Thought being that if the brand new one still had problems they could still put me into a Surround at the store.
Getting frustrated, starting to look for ways to migrate my text messages to WP7.
Other bit of info, guy at the store doesn't expect any new models until Spring at the earliest.

[Q] Intermittent "No SIM Card-Emergency Calls Only"

Alright everyone, I've Googled my brains out (not in a dirty way) and haven't found any real resolution to the above issue. I've tried all the usual suspects; replacing the SIM Card, cleaning the SIM Card, adding tape to the back side of the card to ensure good contact, replacing SIM/MicroSD PCB Board, fresh Wipe of ROMs and Radios, etc. None of those things have had any real results except replacing the PCB-it seems to be less frequently occurring with the new SIM tray. Does anyone have any other ideas? I'm willing to try just about anything.
Thanks in advance.

How often does this happen?
It only happens to me when I have to change the network mode. I've rarely seen it other except for maybe when my phone finds an LTE signal.
Otherwise, it could be the antennas. My mom once dropped her Samsung Focus and the antennas got screwed up.

Sometimes it'll happen through several reboots within a few minutes. It'll also happen when my phone is sitting, untouched, on my desk. There shouldn't be any network mode switching if my phone isn't moving.

The only thing I can think of is to flash back to Stock AT&T software and see what happens. If you still have the same problem, it's most likely an antenna issue and you might be better off buying a new phone.
Time to return to stock and see what happens. Ugh, what an annoying issue.
EDIT: After returning to stock and installing TWRP I ran the stock UCMC1 software for a little while without incident. While I was setting up CM I got the dreaded "No SIM-Emergency Calls Only" message. I'm at a loss here. I guess it might just be time to start shopping for a new phone.
EDIT: I'm going to try running *SHUDDERS* stock Samsung/AT&T software for a few days to see if the problem persists. I'm pretty skeptical that this is a software issue, though, since I haven't seen too many people reporting this issue.
Good effort
Given all your efforts in eliminating various variables, I'm starting to believe Hangampalli is probably right and it might be a Hardware issue.
But it is a simple observation to stay on a solid stock ROM like the recent UCMC1 (original att version) for a couple of days and see what happens.
You remind me of myself with my Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) random shutdowns last year. I chewed up all the threads at XDA back to back and tried anything, and it still did it ... but we all know when to quit.
Cheers to your efforts:good:

But if not, I guess I'll be phone shopping. :-/ Such a shame because I really love this phone and its community of users and devs.

I got the phone as a replacement from AT&T (bad headphone jack, last time) in about October. I'm going to try to see if they'll replace it for me. Fingers crossed.
Ya I have had this same problem. Changing ROMs fixed it for me though.

AT&T apparently warranties their replacement devices for 90 days or until the end of the original device's warranty, whichever is longer.
What does that mean for me? I'm boned. I guess I'm stuck with my iPhone until I buy a new phone. It's going to be hard leaving this great community of Developers and Users and shedding such a great device.
Humm... I wonder if I have the same problem, is there any tests you can do to see if it is the sim card tray or something like the attenna ? I seem to have service sometimes, not all the time.

Ready to break this sucker open

Ok, I've been having some network issues, some of you may know. My service cuts off randomly and im quite sick of it. I've tried everything, nothing will fix it. I dont have an extra $400 laying around to RMA it. So, I am at the last resort. Its been fun, its a good phone, but at this point it really doesnt matter to me if i break it. I can get a moto g for $120 thqt will work like it was ment to. I really thunk its something wrong with the phone, I've never had this problem on tmobile before.
Anyway, im ready to crack this thing open and see if i cant fix it on my own. Maybe a connection is lose or something. I've watched a few videos, looks easy, ive popped my N72013 open so i im not worried.
Now, would anyone have any ideas what it could be? It acts like its a grounding issue, i can do just about anything, but when i download a rom, app, stream a video, anything that maxes out my internet, the service just completely drops, and says "no service" but usually comes back on after a few seconds. Sometimes the whole phone reboots. But, if is use 3g i never have any problems
So, any ideas on what to look for inside the phone? I was gonna unplug the wire for 4G and 3G, inspect maybe dust it off, and plug it back in.
If anyone has any ideas please fill me in. Thanks for your time.

They don't cash the 400 bucks, they just put a hold on it, I did it recently via a credit card, and the charge was quickly reversed.
I'd recommend replacing it, if you still don't want to do it (because of money), go directly through LG they'll have you send in the device and they'll fix it for you.
What you're suggesting is a last resort when you're out of warranty

Yes, I've fastboot flashed stock 4.4.4, 4.4.3, 4.4.2, 4.4, tried different kernels, roms, called tmobile numerous times, changed sim cards, gone to different areas in town, you name it, I've probably tried it.
I had a similar problem with my nexus 5 it would be on LTE most of the time but after a few minutes of watching YouTube it would switch to h/h+/3g I did RMA through T-Mobile and this new one hasn't done it if you don't have a warranty your only choice is to replace the antenna or the radio hardware
So you are willing to buy a Moto G but not deal with Google RMA? RMA is free, a hold on your credit card is just that, nothing is charged unless you plan on skipping town with the 2nd Nexus.
Google support is one of the best in the business. They do everything they can possibly do to make your RMA as quick and painless as possible by cross shipping you the replacement device. If you have an issue with Google's RMA then you must have never been forced to RMA something before.
Its not that i have an issue with rma, its just, by the time i save up $400 and they ship me the new one, this phone will be obsolete anyway. The battery life isnt that good, its starting to get lcd bleed, ive read many people go through 5+ device and have the same issues. Im not saying its a bad phone, its the best phone ive ever had and ive had many good android phones im just saying, at this point it doesnt seem worth the time and effort, its like a 50/50 shot that ill get a good one.

Nope... not even going to try anymore
Please dont. You obviously dont get the point of my post.
Not sure if I know the point of your post either, but another option is sending your N5 for RMA first (that way there's no hold on your account at all) and wait for them to send you a new one. You can even buy a moto g use it for the week or two you won't have a phone and return it or something.
I understand that you're trying to see if anyone knows what's wrong but to me it's like a needle in a haystack. You're going to be opening up the device to look for a loose connection, but it could be something completely different. Maybe it's a hardware part that is malfunctioning in which case you would need to track down a replacement. This is why everyone is suggesting you just RMA because, speaking from experience, it really isn't a bad experience at all. If you really want to try and fix it yourself of course you're free to do as you wish since it is your device, but I highly doubt anyone on the forum will be able to say for sure what the problem is.
Sounds like you're in a fringe 4g area like me. A few blocks away I get full 4g. On my block, I get almost nothing. I constantly drops 4g, then picks it back up again.
I get a full lte signal nearly everywhere i go, it doesnt just drop 4g, it drops all service completely

Screen splitting, tearing issues

Anyone experienced this? Phones just out the box, got my apps installed and was testing the phone out. Screen splits and looks like it's overheating. Assuming it will have to go back for an exchange.

Definitely not right. Take it back for a replacement.
Finally got the phone exchanged with T-Mobile, new one works fine but man does it get hot. I've had warm phones before but this one, especially during setup got so hot that I was worried about something internally melting. I actually shut it down till it cooled off then finished setting it up. I think whatever thermal throttling LG has setup for the phone is not conservative enough. I read where others have had concerns over the temperature this phone runs at and now understand those concerns. Heat is an electronics device enemy, this phone under setup or heavy use has a lot of them.
Most modern phones get hot now. Samsung Galaxy get so hot you can barely touch them when GPS is running. While I love the features these phones have, I'd sacrifice some screen resolution for better battery life and performance. Why we need quad HD screens this small I'll never know.

Finally got the phone exchanged with T-Mobile, new one works fine but man does it get hot. I've had warm phones before but this one, especially during setup got so hot that I was worried about something internally melting. My V10 gets hot fast, even when just downloading or updating apps. My G5 doesn't get too warm really at all. It depends on the phone you get I guess. It sucks. A lot of people said their V10 didn't get hot, but here mine does. I guess it's just what you end up with. I WISH they all came the same or that companies would do a little more quality control. I've returned a lot of devices in the past for different problems but it seems there is never a "perfect" one.

Anyone experienced this? Phones just out the box, got my apps installed and was testing the phone out. Screen splits and looks like it's overheating. Assuming it will have to go back for an exchange.

Mine got the same issue after 4 months of having it. I have a rooted phone, so i can forget about t-mobile replacement. Any idea if it is a hardware or software thing? Should i get a replacement display?
Thanks

I would put the phone back to stock. Call T-Mobile and tell them what happened, I've exchanged Samsung phones that have been rooted and tho I've flashed back to stock knox was tripped and they have never said a word about it. It's clearly a hardware issue and rooting it can't cause that, I can't say if it's policy or not but T-Mobile has always been fair with me, I imagine if the issue was in somehow related to rooting they might say something but haven't ever with me, it's always been hardware so I can't say.
Here's what happened with mine
Called them, told them what's happening and I had to pay $20 for the exchange. I had ordered mine by phone so that's the route I had to take, they mailed a new one to my local store, I went to pick it up and they inspected my original phone for cracked screen, water damage or signs of abuse, they never even turned it on to check bootloader or anything. We swapped phones and I was on my way.
This should help you also, when I originally called in the rep asked if I could send him some pictures of the phone so he could put it on file should this become an issue, which I did. I sent numerous pictures and screenshots so hopefully the next in line doesn't have any issues.
@Ducter I'll give it a try. Thanks buddy.
Lost my T-mobile G5 to the dreaded screen tear just 2 days into owning it. I'm in Canada though so I'm probably screwed for a replacement.
How to fix LG G5 Screen Split issue using Heatgun.
Disassemble LG G5 using the link below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hveXdJLJEeU
Disconnect the Wifi Cable (Black One), Rear Camera, Front Camera.
Now with just the logic board, place it on a surface that won't melt.
It should look like the picture below. Warning don't take off anything else

Turn on your heatgun and apply left right motion only concentrating on the cpu metal plate for around 15 seconds.
Do the same thing on the opposite side of the cpu plate.
Let it cool down for around 10 minutes.
Put it back together and it should work.
I did it atleast four times, first time it worked but failed after few minutes.
Second and third time was not working at all.
The fourth time I did it, it was working.
It's been a while and it still going.

****please disregard. Figured it out. Looks like six screws holding in the logic board also.
Thanks for sharing. I went to the original post and thanked there also.
I'm stuck trying to remove the logic board. I can see how the front camera comes off very easily. I can't find anything that looks like a black cable for wifi. Also can't figure out how to remove the rear camera. Any pointers?
Thank you in advance.
