Deodexed vs odexed?? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

pretty confusing for noobs like me.. which one is better in terms of performance and batt. life?

no need for this thread. there are a couple of other threads dedicated to this topic.
deodexed roms are easier to customize.

Yes, please search a bit even on google to read about the difference.
Basically put the Android OS loads up system apps in two stages. Odex files and APK's. Part of the information for the app is stored in the ODEX file and part in the APK.
This allows the OS to pre-load stuff if you will. Deodexing is putting/compiling the set of apps and framework stuff so that each one is back into a single file instead of two.
You could I guess in theory theme in the parts but that's really complex because you don't know whats in what. Which is why putting everything back into one file makes it easy to theme, customize etc.
Hope that helps you out. This is a freebie, search next time xD you won't be a noob that way.

I'd say no.
As far as I know you need a kernel that allows you to step over 1ghz and this is most likely stock kernel since we don't have source for it...

Tegrak in the market will oc the stock rom and kernel. Free version I think gets up to 1.3ghz

It was removed due to their being several better messaging apps on the market.
To answer the overclock question until source for the kernel is released the onlyway to overclock is to use tegrak.
It is awesome to know I am jut shy of 150 downloads after 1.5 days.thanks for downloading my rom and hopefully more of you will post you thoughts.

Couple of things, if you put in addons like zedge and ADW plese put them in /data/apps not /system/apps, since this makes it a pain to uninstall/remove.
secondly, include a file manager, i hate having to install a file manager to install my file manager. 3rd include the Email.apk, i dont understand this latest trend towards removing that, it's rather important and fair amount of us use exchange, again it's a pain to put back and no i don't want to use the other **** email programs from the market

I will highly consider this however i will most likely optimize the pngs to make it smaller and it will probably end up on the sd card for quick removal by those whome that don't want to use it and prefer one from the market.I will however suggest to you if you have not already try k9 mail it is by far the best email app on the market and provides all the functionality plus customization options.
To Answer your question on the file manager i am currently working through and evaluating a few which i consider the best and will be releasing one with version 2.0 which will be optimized and then included in the rom.
The last thing you brought up was the placement of the included app's.I will also in version 2.0 happily move those to the sd card.
Thank you for your suggestions, and i hope you are enjoying my rom regardless of these slight inconveniences you have experienced.

[DEV][TW4]Fixed&Modified Touchwiz Development

Hey,
So I'm very busy with fixing Touchwiz 4, from XXKQE. I also modified the dock, now can you add 5 icons in it. This topic is just for the development state.
If you guys have requests just leave it here in this topic.
Sounds good maybe you can turn CrapWiz into TouchWiz ^^
Like the resources very much...

i prefer a fixed touchwizlauncher 4, no modified.
would be nice, thanks.
i have tried to change the libs. took the libs from a modified touchwizlauncher 4 from xxjw4 for i9000 but nothing happens. everything works as before
i think we must look for a working touchwizlauncher 4 without bugs on other devices and we can take them libs.
maybe the libs makes the issues in icon placement storage.
maybe someone can make a flashble cwm package with this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883&highlight=sgs2

No offence for your efforts, floris, but I'm missing the point of going trough the hassle of trying to fix / improve a buggy tw4 launcher, while someone else had already done that? Fr4ggor's tw4.5 next gen launcher http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883 works great, it's stable, extremely customizable (changeable grid and docksizes, themes, including ICS). It does everything you want to do with the buggy tw4 launchers from the valuepack (making it stable + some extra options), making me wonder why you're trying to do this?

I've installed the value pack because I want tw4, but I have 6 pages because on a page there is only approximatly 6 apps.. so I really need a tw4 fix, and than I can have 2 pages.
Indeed, you learn best by doing it yourself! I guess you are trying to learn how to make apps yourself? If this is your first experience with creating apps, you might want to start from the very beginning. That way you can really learn how to make something from scratch. there are plenty of great tutorials out there, who'll also make you understand the way apps are working behind the scenes (the states apps can be in, the way android and dalvik vm handles them).
Anyway, good luck experimenting and learning

@FlorisNL, you might want to take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUOWNXGRc6g&feature=list_related&playnext=1&list=SP2F07DBCDCC01493A . Despite being slightly outdated (almost a year old, but still recent enough) it is one of the best series of tutorials I came across with.
I'm somewhere around part 50 - out of 200 - and it's comprehensible for anyone without experience with xml or java.
@Tomajdon I guess you mean in the app drawer? Just open the app drawer, hit the 'menu-key' and select 'edit' (in whatever language). Now you can move app-icons around so you can rearrange everything.

No I mean that I have 6 pages and for example on page six i have 2 icons only. But if i move that two icon to page 5 and i clear my ram or tap to advanced task killer and clear the apps my two icons from 5 page go back to page 6... So i can not move my icons because when i clear m y ram my icons set back to default... And this annoys me very much. So if you aolved this problem please upload that fix i would be pleaseful.

Laggy and crashy, and that's on stock!

So I'm not new to rooting and custom roms. I am on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Bugless Beast Jelly Bean) and relied heavily on custom roms to keep my OG Moto Droid relevant after they stopped updating it at Froyo. I am however, hardly the type to have any idea how to code or compile, or any of that good stuff, so CWM and zip files are my friend.
What I need is a fix for a problem on my wife's G2x. Even on the unrooted stock OTA release, she was having significant lag, freezing, and crashes. I talked her into rooting and now it's even worse. Memory leaks are my best guess, but it's reaching a state of unusability.
My question, or request is more accurate, is I need to figure out a fix. I've looked at overclock kernels, and I probably will as soon as I have time with her phone again, but I'm worried about stability. She doesn't need all the fancy custom stuff, and really doesn't want most of it. Definitely not an ICS rom that's not 100% functional (no camera would prevent her from taking pictures of our cats so that's right out). Even losing the alarm tones that come on stock was unacceptable to her...
I'm just trying to find a stock-like rom, but better. Fast, reliable, consistent.
Any ideas?
Incidentally, a custom rom would probably be fine as long as it doesn't deviate too far from the stock UI, but if I do that I need a way to transfer her alarm tones. May be easy, but like I say I don't have much knowledge beyond how to flash a zip.
I guess for close to stock, it does offer a pile of customization features though, but you could try CM7. Its the closest to stock, but it fast, super stable, and near perfection.

I'm assuming these are sounds? If so take all your files and copy them into system>media>audio>alarms. And rename the file extension to what all the others in that folder are, but first try it without renaming the file extension. The folder placement might be different as I'm on ics and not CM7, but it should be close. This should work, but if it doesn't I wouldn't know any other way as I've never did it before.

Improvements in ICS. Post your experience (Benchmarks, battery, smoothnes etc.)

How is ics holding up for you? Is the battery life any better than in gb or froyo? Are benchmarks reporting better results? Are there any new features that you like? Is rhe phone behaving smoother and snappier? How good is the ram management?
There are a lot of us who, for various reasons, still havent tried ics, so we need you guys to tell us what to expect. Thanks in advance

Noone? Really? Come on guys don't be lazy.
ICS is one of the smoothest for P920. LG did a really good job with this even though this was a beta and not even for our phone. Everything improves with additional features from ICS except battery life which decreased significantly in my case of ICS.
The look and feel is new and with the new animations everything became fun for a phone i once referred to as a "mistake in my part." Dragging out the notifications really helps because you had to heed them for it to go away. Added power widget feature Wi-fi hotspot. You can share your mobile internet with this baby but consumes a lot of your battery...
All in all a great upgrade but you need a spare battery at all times to fully use the phone without having to worry about the battery.
Hope I Helped...
Cheers!

I'm using Ferakernel-Feravlot ICS 4.0.9. What i noticed ia follows:
1. Fantastic Battery Life in 2G and good life in 3g
2. RAM Management is good.
3. Phone is quite smooth
4. Features are good.
But the following are the disadvantages:
1. Automatic Brightness is not working
2. Video recording is not working.
3. Data Usage is not useful.
4. Battery Usage is not fully useful.
5. When call comes, the ringtone is not clear. The ringtone is breaking.
6. USB-Tethering is not working.
7. Every time contacts are synchronized with the server resulting in redundancy of contacts.
8. Unable to select Multiple contact for deletion.
(Sorry for poor English, typed in hurry).
How to improve this, following are the solutions: (Consider Sony Xperia x10i)
1.Android 1.6 UI is the best UI since today. (Phone book, timescape, backgrounds are excellent). So keep this UI and update the back end performance.
2. Automatic brightness,Battery Usage are available there, so no need to worry about it.
3. Add USB-tethering and data usage to the settings.
4. Launcher is good and so no need to worry about.
5. Just change the android framework 10 4.1 and keep all UI interface and above points same as Android 1.6.
If you release with above said points, your OS is best of all.
Man, this is the Optimus 3D section, not the x10i.
noway your the only one. i have 35% drain overnight 2g, data off.

Battery consumption reduced
Home.apk quite smooth
Many new options in the notification bar, app drawer and home screen.
Pointer is more accurate
Widgets are less
Keyboard and web-browser is extremely laggy! It opens pages quickly but takes ages to respond to a button.
No guaranteed method for root, you also have to flash a recovery.img and cwm/twrp manually, which makes the risk of brick very high, and even if there is a fix guide, there will always be an issue that some people have and isn't mentioned in the guide.
Bottom line, if you want a good ics experience, you're in for a lot of work :I in comparison to GB

If you do some reading (reading .. not joking) rooting it is a piece of cake.
And if you do a little more reading about how to use fastboot flash you won't even need to root the original ICS ROM.
Its all about reading (and understanding).
Right now there are some very good ROMS from various developers (lag free) and KERNELS that give us over 10.000 points in Antutu.
About CWM or TWRP if you don't know how to flash it you can always use Milaqs Recovery installer which uses 2nd init procedure (or if you like you can use both recovery methods like I do, 2nd unit and partition).
If you don't understand anything that I say you should stay in Gingerbread.
Apart from that you can always try CM10 which is easier.

Then you'll have a problem with the Cosmo drivers (surprise surprise) <-- that WASN'T mentioned in the book, you read everywhere until you find help, still if you know nothing about modding or developing you're likely to make little mistakes and you don't know how :I like if you were a mod you'd say "oh I forgot to tick this option on" normal user would keep trying until they brick their phone *-* now you're problem is doubled. all my knowledg is about "what worked and what didn't work" like who knew using WKPARK's method and rooting are just the same or in what regards?
Try on your own risk I know, but still no guide mentions everything so you might be deluded, the risk usually comes from there not from missing a step
Sent from my LG-SU760 using xda app-developers app
Yes guides can't cover everything and this is XDA-Developers not LG Support.
Apart from that there is no "true" risk anymore with P920/SU760 devices because they can get unbricked unless their hardware is physically damaged and this can't happen by ROM's.
Once again patience and reading will make your phone return back to normal but if somebody is new in XDA or doesn't know or can't understad the basics he better stay with official Gingerbread.

You don't need to be a developer to know this stuff and there are always people to help you in this forum for "Free".
Guides are prepared for the exact same situation that the creator was in. So in turn guide prepares you to be in the same situation to make the guide work.
The creator of the guide may have left something trivial out like "power on the phone" or "you can let go of the button now" you know , things that a Monkey could crack.
If you don't wanna experiment on it , then don't.
But stop whining.

Will you help me with the unrecognised Cosmo usb drivers? Will you tell me to a post that shows how? No? Anyone? Then shut up! I'm trying to help here, by warning people from your deluding guides that "magically" brick phones, because someone forgot to let go of the +vol button.
And all I said was that the thing was a hassle in compared to gb, isn't it?

A app idea

How hard would it be to make a market style app with like no experience lol..

Well I thought it would be a cool idea for a root store type thing, like a market for root apps only. And I thought maybe I could give it a go at at least making a template app and maybe I could get other people to join in or something idk.

App isn't the problem it's getting devs on board also storage server space etc etc a better idea would be a xda app market

Well I would like too make one but I don't know jack for android code, but either way if that type of app existed it would be cool.

You mean like Cydia for iOS right? I can't tell if you mean a type of Cydia Store, or a just an app store. I also had an idea for this a couple weeks back.

I don't know what that is but like what I had in mind was a app that has categories etc for apps, and it would be like for root stuff, like root apps or apps from people on here and other forums, to kinda localize everything into a easy to navigate spot so you don't have to search a huge forum for a download to someone's app or have to search play store to find the right root apps, because to me finding root apps on play store can be a pain.
But lime I said its really just a idea and it would be a little difficult to get going and make actually happen.
Also a app where its like daily/weekly updates about peoples stuff, but drippler kinda does that.

Cydia is the ios jailbreak app place

I might make this app this weekend. The UI would probably be terrible though. If I made this, it would have a ROMs section, tweaks section (mods to system and stuff), an apps section (root apps only), and an App Developers section (apps that started on XDA or another Android Forum, or just apps that I think are cool but are not on the play store. Once I know that the app works and can successfully download and install apps, I will work on the UI to look like the Play Store, except with the Holo Blue accent instead of the green one. It would be my first app, too. I'm also learning Android Development by Team Treehouse, and they show how you can make an app access the internet and pull things from it (which is saving the apk, and then installing).

u would need permission from xda and it's better that they make it.
xda devs don't only make root apps also having roms would be expensive and unnecessary because they'll have to handle a boatload of downloads and space to store all the roms when file-sharing sites work just fine what would be better is u subscribe to a Rom and get updates and links etc from there...
Anyways
Where did u start learning?

I started learning 2 months ago, and where I started learning was at my school. I can stay in my schools library after school for 2 and a half hours and that's when I learn android development. I have Eclipse and the Android Emulator working fine on the computers over there (with permission of course). I found team treehouse when watching a tech video on YouTube, it was an ad and I clicked on it.

Wasn't the Cyanogenmod team working on just this last year?

Might want to see how far they got, or why they stopped.

Yeah this is like what I was thinking, I mean it doesn't have to be xda it'd probably be better if it wasn't because they would have to be involved and then it would be limited to xda also

Would I need permission from xda-developers, if Instead I just got permission from the developers of the apps and ROMs instead?
