Improvements in ICS. Post your experience (Benchmarks, battery, smoothnes etc.) - LG Optimus 3D

How is ics holding up for you? Is the battery life any better than in gb or froyo? Are benchmarks reporting better results? Are there any new features that you like? Is rhe phone behaving smoother and snappier? How good is the ram management?
There are a lot of us who, for various reasons, still havent tried ics, so we need you guys to tell us what to expect. Thanks in advance

Noone? Really? Come on guys don't be lazy.

ICS is one of the smoothest for P920. LG did a really good job with this even though this was a beta and not even for our phone. Everything improves with additional features from ICS except battery life which decreased significantly in my case of ICS.
The look and feel is new and with the new animations everything became fun for a phone i once referred to as a "mistake in my part." Dragging out the notifications really helps because you had to heed them for it to go away. Added power widget feature Wi-fi hotspot. You can share your mobile internet with this baby but consumes a lot of your battery...
All in all a great upgrade but you need a spare battery at all times to fully use the phone without having to worry about the battery.
Hope I Helped...
Cheers!

Its nice. I think ROMs will get better, too. Battery isn't too bad with an undervolted kernel like Pesach

I'm on cm10 now but when I did have ICS on my p925 I had significant increase in smoothness and a BIG increase in battery life. My phone would last all day with moderate to high usage on ICS and MAYBE an hour and a half on GB...

Can you take a screenshot of your battery usage from the settings because i'm starting to believe that i'm the only one with battery problems...

Have you reset the battery stats, just in case?
I was having very erratic readings before doing that.

I'm using Ferakernel-Feravolt ICS 4.0.9

I'm using Ferakernel-Feravlot ICS 4.0.9. What i noticed ia follows:
1. Fantastic Battery Life in 2G and good life in 3g
2. RAM Management is good.
3. Phone is quite smooth
4. Features are good.
But the following are the disadvantages:
1. Automatic Brightness is not working
2. Video recording is not working.
3. Data Usage is not useful.
4. Battery Usage is not fully useful.
5. When call comes, the ringtone is not clear. The ringtone is breaking.
6. USB-Tethering is not working.
7. Every time contacts are synchronized with the server resulting in redundancy of contacts.
8. Unable to select Multiple contact for deletion.
(Sorry for poor English, typed in hurry).
How to improve this, following are the solutions: (Consider Sony Xperia x10i)
1.Android 1.6 UI is the best UI since today. (Phone book, timescape, backgrounds are excellent). So keep this UI and update the back end performance.
2. Automatic brightness,Battery Usage are available there, so no need to worry about it.
3. Add USB-tethering and data usage to the settings.
4. Launcher is good and so no need to worry about.
5. Just change the android framework 10 4.1 and keep all UI interface and above points same as Android 1.6.
If you release with above said points, your OS is best of all.

Man, this is the Optimus 3D section, not the x10i.

noway your the only one. i have 35% drain overnight 2g, data off.

Battery consumption reduced
Home.apk quite smooth
Many new options in the notification bar, app drawer and home screen.
Pointer is more accurate
Widgets are less
Keyboard and web-browser is extremely laggy! It opens pages quickly but takes ages to respond to a button.
No guaranteed method for root, you also have to flash a recovery.img and cwm/twrp manually, which makes the risk of brick very high, and even if there is a fix guide, there will always be an issue that some people have and isn't mentioned in the guide.
Bottom line, if you want a good ics experience, you're in for a lot of work :I in comparison to GB

If you do some reading (reading .. not joking) rooting it is a piece of cake.
And if you do a little more reading about how to use fastboot flash you won't even need to root the original ICS ROM.
Its all about reading (and understanding).
Right now there are some very good ROMS from various developers (lag free) and KERNELS that give us over 10.000 points in Antutu.
About CWM or TWRP if you don't know how to flash it you can always use Milaqs Recovery installer which uses 2nd init procedure (or if you like you can use both recovery methods like I do, 2nd unit and partition).
If you don't understand anything that I say you should stay in Gingerbread.
Apart from that you can always try CM10 which is easier.

Then you'll have a problem with the Cosmo drivers (surprise surprise) <-- that WASN'T mentioned in the book, you read everywhere until you find help, still if you know nothing about modding or developing you're likely to make little mistakes and you don't know how :I like if you were a mod you'd say "oh I forgot to tick this option on" normal user would keep trying until they brick their phone *-* now you're problem is doubled. all my knowledg is about "what worked and what didn't work" like who knew using WKPARK's method and rooting are just the same or in what regards?
Try on your own risk I know, but still no guide mentions everything so you might be deluded, the risk usually comes from there not from missing a step
Sent from my LG-SU760 using xda app-developers app

Yes guides can't cover everything and this is XDA-Developers not LG Support.
Apart from that there is no "true" risk anymore with P920/SU760 devices because they can get unbricked unless their hardware is physically damaged and this can't happen by ROM's.
Once again patience and reading will make your phone return back to normal but if somebody is new in XDA or doesn't know or can't understad the basics he better stay with official Gingerbread.

You don't need to be a developer to know this stuff and there are always people to help you in this forum for "Free".
Guides are prepared for the exact same situation that the creator was in. So in turn guide prepares you to be in the same situation to make the guide work.
The creator of the guide may have left something trivial out like "power on the phone" or "you can let go of the button now" you know , things that a Monkey could crack.
If you don't wanna experiment on it , then don't.
But stop whining.

And all I said was that the thing was a hassle in compared to gb, isn't it?

The phone is not guilty that your arms grow from your ass.
Iphone, yes go buy an iphone and we'll have with a noob, idiot and troll less at the same time.
If you want to be helped, explain your issue with more details and less of these words:
1 omg
2 ****
3 worst phone ever
4 other personal comments.
If your phone lags as you say, and you are on gingerbread, you should do more research.
Want a tip?
Everytime the phone lags, random reboots or you have other problems or issues- simply Odin your phone and you won =)

Look i didnt want to be rude or anything im just having a hard time with this phone. And ive done eveything i know to fix it, Odin stock 2.2.1 , stock 2.3.4 and stock2.3.6 and valhalla and octane via cwm. But i dont know what it is that everytime im done installing my apps and games the phone acts up. I have the link2sd running i have the fota fix i have the battery calibrate and like i said the kj1 kernel and the adrenaline shot v12. i dont know whats wrong is it an app? a game? I really dont know and another thing is whats the best rom for this device and should i leave it like it is or shliud i install other things with it. Thats really my question.

From a clean install I have been on Valhalla... but until the latest universal adrenaline it did not seem the way I thought it should. Now my phone flies.
I'd be willing to bet your issues stem from a bad app causing an issue... have you researched that at all?
I would also encourage installing QuickPic and freezing the stock gallery... it is a CPU HOG!! QuickPic is liter and has a ton more options. I'm not affiliated... just noticed the stock gallery at times could take 50-60% of the CPU, even when I was not using it. F that.
Also, the newest Valhalla will be built off the newest OFFICIAL gingerbread... and we have source now for GB... so, things are on the up and up. Hold on to the phone for a bit.
I've noticed (at least for me) that restoring data through titanium gives me force close issues sometimes.

Hiya.
I think that if you start a thread with I hate my phone, you should expect more than flaming. It would be better that if you did your research and didn't found what you want. Then how about starting your post with something more detailed or, what you did to your phone in steps, to see if someone could help you in better way. Also I've seen a lot in this forum from people demanding, using every gibberish word that they could find, and SO they still get helped.
There're still few good fellas out there that love to help no matter what words you use.
My 2 cents

There are a couple of things that can cause this. but some more info is needed about your phone.
I believe your problem is that you are using the Link2sd app. It has been my experience that it does not play well with Gingerbread. It has given me problems when I link to my external SDcard.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong but the last I heard Link2sd doesn't work properly on Gingerbread regarding EXT4 on the external SDcard?
Do you have your voodoo enabled?
Just asking..
So i should get rid of the link2sd app?? and what about using another kernel like kj1 and the adrenaline shot XIX?? and yes the voodoo is enable. Anothet thing if i just use the fota fix apk to get more internal memory. Can i install most of my apps?? right now i have like 25 apps besides the stock ones

I've been using Link2Sd for about 2 weeks now on both Valhalla and Octane, and I have not had any problems at all. I just let it move the Apps automatically and then I use the Create Link feature and it does the rest. I have 92 Apps and I still have around 250mb of space left.

Try again
I don't get the flame, either. You're having problems with your phone and came looking for advice (I assume). This is my sixth phone and I like the SGS4G quite a bit. I suggest you flash again with the stock KD1, then flash the Samsung released 2.3.6. There is an Odin-friendly tar on another thread in Q&A that was started today or yesterday. Should be easy to find. (I also that on my Win7 machine I can retrieve the tarball from the download cache completed through kies mini and use that.) NO overclocking I get quadrant scores in the 17-1900 range. The scrolling between panes is smooth, my wifi is good at home (personal security) and in my office (enterprise security). I have a bit under 80 contacts, I do e-mail, messaging, facebook, maps, browsing, market browsing, music player, ... angry birds and a couple other games for giggles. I have been pretty impressed.

I would still start as close to "scratch" as possible, clear cache, factory reset, load KD1, let it sit and does its thing a bit (5-10 minutes?). Load the oem gingerbread release and again let it do its thing a bit. Before you load your first app, run the stock ones, like the crappy browser and see what kind of performnace you're seeing. Init wifi and see how that performs. Put it through its paces as a stock device. If you have really bad performance on a "pristine" device, maybe you got a bad device. I have come to expect a certain number of brand new workstations I roll out at work to be clunkers. Maybe you ogt one. Anyway, if it performs okay as a stock device, load you apps one at a time and pause to test the effects of the new install.
Good luck!

i hear you. i've hated it after one day. it was hard for me coming from htc (n1, hd2) to sgs4g. it doesn't feel solid hardware-software marriage. and it is strange bcz you'd expect more from samsung.
in the end it's a subjective feeling, so don't expect crowd of support. everyone has his own experience.

I really wish people would understand to see how a rom preforms you need to use it for more than a couple hours. Hell even a couple of days. The first day will be spent with the user messing with it to figure out all the settings. Once you are back to normal and not looking for all the new features the battery will stabilize and start lasting longer.

You may have a valid point, but thelgow said nothing about battery life being the reason for going back to vahalla final. I try ROMs for only a couple hours at a time regularly. I switch back simply because I prefer the look and feel of what I was already using. Once I find one that looks and feels better to me, then I'll give it an extended run and see how it works in my situation.

I understand this. There have been so many posts from people that post this kind of thing that is not helpful, off-topic, and honestly is rude its getting frustrating. You can not get a real feel of how the roms perform in a couple hours. I guarantee you that. There might be a setting that you over looked in your initial scan of the features. Even tho people claim you dont have to give the rom break in time. You do have to give YOURSELF break in time on the rom. Battery life, setting for themes, tweaks like notification toggles, and other things are all dependent on the person using the phone. If you flash a rom install your most used apps and never look into cutomizing the phone phone you will probably get longer battery. But if you are looking for a theme for the theme engine and a launcher theme you will have less battery. Plus if you are swapping themes several times at some point you need to reboot the phone for certain things to change properly.
TL;DR? A couple hours tinkering with a rom is not long enough to make a decision. Plain and simple.

I am on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Bugless Beast Jelly Bean) and relied heavily on custom roms to keep my OG Moto Droid relevant after they stopped updating it at Froyo. I am however, hardly the type to have any idea how to code or compile, or any of that good stuff, so CWM and zip files are my friend.
What I need is a fix for a problem on my wife's G2x. Even on the unrooted stock OTA release, she was having significant lag, freezing, and crashes. I talked her into rooting and now it's even worse. Memory leaks are my best guess, but it's reaching a state of unusability.
My question, or request is more accurate, is I need to figure out a fix. I've looked at overclock kernels, and I probably will as soon as I have time with her phone again, but I'm worried about stability. She doesn't need all the fancy custom stuff, and really doesn't want most of it. Definitely not an ICS rom that's not 100% functional (no camera would prevent her from taking pictures of our cats so that's right out). Even losing the alarm tones that come on stock was unacceptable to her...
I'm just trying to find a stock-like rom, but better. Fast, reliable, consistent.
Any ideas?
Incidentally, a custom rom would probably be fine as long as it doesn't deviate too far from the stock UI, but if I do that I need a way to transfer her alarm tones. May be easy, but like I say I don't have much knowledge beyond how to flash a zip.
I guess for close to stock, it does offer a pile of customization features though, but you could try CM7. Its the closest to stock, but it fast, super stable, and near perfection.

I would suggest CM7 as well and you can run supercharger

Any advice on how to transfer the alarm notifications? I haven't researched this all that much, saw a post elsewhere that mentioned just copying the files out of the notifications folder, which is certainly easy enough.

I'm assuming these are sounds? If so take all your files and copy them into system>media>audio>alarms. And rename the file extension to what all the others in that folder are, but first try it without renaming the file extension. The folder placement might be different as I'm on ics and not CM7, but it should be close. This should work, but if it doesn't I wouldn't know any other way as I've never did it before.

All those satisfied with g2x GTFIH

Now i know LG abandoned this ship. I'm just as pissed off as the next guy about that one. I wouldn't mind an official jb or at least an ics update. But either way, I'm honestly quite satisfied with this phone and its performance. I'm running standard cm7 nightlies (latest) with Trinity t15 kernel and wolf script mod. Battery life is decent and bad when i whore wifi but that's the biggest iissue with my g2x. With all the hate threads around this forum there have to be others who have positive experiences with this device.
This phone is awesome. Since I started carrying around my portable nuclear power plant all my battery issues are gone.
Seriously though, if you use the phone the battery will drop. That is a law of physics you can't avoid. My problem with this phone was that with stock ROM the battery dropped a lot even when I did absolutely nothing. CM7 solved that, so I am happy.
I still don't get sufficient standby life so I am working on fixing an old HTC amaze (fixed bootloop, now waiting for screen to arrive). My wife's amaze can get over 4 days of standby and I just noticed that she has not rebooted it in close to 400 hours.

4 days of standby time? Sorry this is the g2x forum I don't know what that means.
Lol that's crazy!
I have about six months left until I'm available for an upgrade. Thinking the new s4, razor or nexus.
I agree this is still a pretty slick phone. I'm loving the dual boot setup with CM7/Trinity ELP as my runner and CM10.1 as my gaming/test platform. I'd probably be way more disappointed with the phone if I was stuck with stock software, but thanks to the awesome devs and their work I'm very happy with this phone.

For sure, if it weren't for the devs, we'd be screwed lol

I am currently running cm7 with Mazout360's kernel and wolfscript. I have themed my phone to be as similar to ICS/JB as possible, as that was the only way I could return to GB. I am very content with how it turned out.
In the end, I have accepted that I will probably never have fully functioning ICS or JB on this phone. But, I guess all that I was really looking for was that updated look and crisp feel, which I have since obtained!
Although I will move on to some sort of Nexus when I have better funding, I am satisfied with the g2x.
The only problem I seem to have with cm7 is this noticeable static flicker that appears very quickly after turning on the display. It only seems to do that with cm7 roms.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but is it possible to get the jellybean notification bar on gingerbread? Like with notifications you can swipe away and quick message replies to texts and all that. That might be the only thing keeping me on jellybean right now because I love the way it feels so intuitive and such.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I can swipe away notifications, that's something GB can do already I think. As for quick replys to messages and emails and such, I don't think so.
At least as far as I know.
I miss those features too, but I guess we can't have everything.
There are apps for pop up notifications though.
I can also swipe away notifications. Actually i found that out on mistake, had a few too many whisky cokes and tried responding to a text and swiped it away lol

Oh I went straight from Froyo on my old Optimus V to Jellybean on the G2X (I rooted and installed Paranoid Android right away) so I thought swipe notifications was a Jellybean thing. I'll install a Gingerbread ROM when I get back from work and try to make it look and feel like JB.
On topic, yes I'm very satisfied with my G2X, but that might also be because I wasnt expecting a high end phone when I bought it from eBay a few months ago. Also I have a Nexus 7 for any apps that I use that require a hardware accelerated jellybean.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
AFAIK swipe notifications is a CM7 thing in GB ROMs.
-- The noob says:
The g2x works best if you chant "humba lumba humba" while standing on one leg!
I though problems would be fixed by updates.
And once rooted and a with custom rom
Everything was going to be working good like the days of the HTC G1.

For those of you who are content with cm7, even though it is old software, I am working on my "Speedster" rom. It is still quite alpha but my goals is to optimize CM7 for our G2xs. I am also doing a bunch of software updates inside and using Mazkrnl to have speed and stability. I use the latest ADW launcher in it and JB sounds so it really gives CM7 new life and gives it a great CM10 feel. I can't do anything about play store, still limited to 2.3 aps. No google keep/now
Pie, I'm willing to flash your rom whenever its out of the alpha stage. Or let me know if you need a tester
I use this for the theme.

Anyone using ICS still?

I'm wondering just in case GB starts to lose support from app developers. I'd like to know if ics is 100% stable at this point, and all features work. I'm all about stability and having everything work the way it was intended.
Bling is cool, as long as it doesn't introduce glitches and hitches.
Ummmm....ICS is pretty dead I dont know if anyone still uses it.....JB is more stable now I have no issues with any app

Only issue with both ics and jb on the infuse is camera stuttering on video recording...actually ics may have a couple mote bugs

Well, GB is pretty dead too, according to some here. But at least it's 100% stable. (at least the revenant rom is) But after perusing the JB threads, it would seem that there are still issues to be ironed out. It may be "good enough" for some, but good enough is not good enough for me.
I guess it looks like I'll be staying with GB for as long as possible. The only reason I upgraded to GB was because some apps no longer work on Froyo.
If you actually flash a Jb ROM I'm willing to bet you won't find something you use daily that has any issues I'm using carbon nightly and I don't have any issues....honestly GB doesn't have really any features I couldn't be on GB anymore

OK, please elaborate more. On JB, does flash work? GPS? And what go you mean GB doesn't have any features? I mean, GB works 100% as far as apps and functionality so I'm confused. It does what I ask it to. What would JB give me that GB doesn't? Are you talking about bells and whistles?

I still use GB. I would not describe myself as a heavy user though. I use the phone mostly for the call, text and camera function.
I like my gmail, calendar and contacts sync'ed.
I don't have all the fb, twitter etc
When I tested out JB, I found a few things I liked:
1. gtalk updated better.
2. gmail had other options. Scrollable widget. Calendar had scrollable widget also. Calendar has more detailed display
3. Chrome worked. Native Browser was better.
4. Google body (now defunct-ed) worked..it needed a 3.0+ platform.
5. I don't use it but others like the theme engine.
6. The weather update on the lock screen was a nice touch.
7. The quick launch from the lock screen was neat...although I don't usually use the lock screen.
8. Back up and restore apps is more comprehensive.
9. Google Now and Google Keep is neat to try.
There were others but I forget...
For my phone, I still like the simpler GB interface and the battery life (less processes running means less battery usage)
fwiw, Entropy said his cm9 was stable..and "dead" too. Supposedly he had a more updated one but never release. Supposedly, aremo/he may have a different cm10?..I'm not sure though...
My final thoughts...to each his own...find something that you like...

Thanks for the info. I don't see anything on that list that is a must have though. Hopefully, GB will be supported by app devs until next spring when my contract is up. Carry on.
yeah..nothing must have..just interesting to test.
jb may be a step up in the most updated device designed to run it with support from chip set manufacturer. (ex: gn2, sgs3, sgs4)
for the most part, i prefer a tablet or pc...my phone is mostly a phone/digital assistant...but i suspect i'm a minority here

Well...unless it was fixed recently...camera is still wonky is it not? Stuttering with 720p recording...that's pretty major to a lot of people, although I myself can live with out it...it was a pretty major downside of jb/ics...on the occasion I wanted to get a video I really couldn't :/, but IMHO that one con doesn't weigh out the pros
But you can't say gb doesn't really have any features when they do have a fully working camera...just saying

But most people realize they're not going to be shooting hollywood movies with the thing. I'm not complaining though, it's good enough for what I need.
I thought ICS was the only version for the infuse with working full encryption?
I have 10GB of organized GB Roms/themes, ICS Roms/themes(lost files ), Tweaks for GB/ICS, all old recovery stuff, and 3 open source kernels Samsung had released.
