[DEV][TW4]Fixed&Modified Touchwiz Development - Galaxy S Plus I9001 Android Development

Hey,
So I'm very busy with fixing Touchwiz 4, from XXKQE. I also modified the dock, now can you add 5 icons in it. This topic is just for the development state.
If you guys have requests just leave it here in this topic.

Sounds good maybe you can turn CrapWiz into TouchWiz ^^

Like the resources very much...

For me is important have a icon style ics

Not sure if I can do that, then you have to make an completely new rom because you have to replace The system icons.

i prefer a fixed touchwizlauncher 4, no modified.
would be nice, thanks.
i have tried to change the libs. took the libs from a modified touchwizlauncher 4 from xxjw4 for i9000 but nothing happens. everything works as before
i think we must look for a working touchwizlauncher 4 without bugs on other devices and we can take them libs.
maybe the libs makes the issues in icon placement storage.

maybe someone can make a flashble cwm package with this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883&highlight=sgs2

I already decompiled the normal touchwiz launcher trying to find the problem. Couldnt really find it.. My new plan is to use the touchwiz 3.0 from xxkq7 and then just add the new tw4 features

No offence for your efforts, floris, but I'm missing the point of going trough the hassle of trying to fix / improve a buggy tw4 launcher, while someone else had already done that? Fr4ggor's tw4.5 next gen launcher http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883 works great, it's stable, extremely customizable (changeable grid and docksizes, themes, including ICS). It does everything you want to do with the buggy tw4 launchers from the valuepack (making it stable + some extra options), making me wonder why you're trying to do this?

thats right, tw4.5 is the better alternative, but some people prefer the original.
so, there is a need for a fixed touchwizlauncher 4.
let's do it

Please upload it as soon as you can! I prefer the original touchwiz 4 rather than the modified tw 4.5 and also the crap tw 3.0... I've installed the value pack because I want tw4, but I have 6 pages because on a page there is only approximatly 6 apps.. so I really need a tw4 fix, and than I can have 2 pages.

Indeed, you learn best by doing it yourself! I guess you are trying to learn how to make apps yourself? If this is your first experience with creating apps, you might want to start from the very beginning. That way you can really learn how to make something from scratch. there are plenty of great tutorials out there, who'll also make you understand the way apps are working behind the scenes (the states apps can be in, the way android and dalvik vm handles them).
Anyway, good luck experimenting and learning

So you mean that you want less pages? You can already delete pages by standard. Just go to your homescreens overview and hold and drag the pages you want to delete to the litter bin.

@FlorisNL, you might want to take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUOWNXGRc6g&feature=list_related&playnext=1&list=SP2F07DBCDCC01493A . Despite being slightly outdated (almost a year old, but still recent enough) it is one of the best series of tutorials I came across with.
I'm somewhere around part 50 - out of 200 - and it's comprehensible for anyone without experience with xml or java.
@Tomajdon I guess you mean in the app drawer? Just open the app drawer, hit the 'menu-key' and select 'edit' (in whatever language). Now you can move app-icons around so you can rearrange everything.

No I mean that I have 6 pages and for example on page six i have 2 icons only. But if i move that two icon to page 5 and i clear my ram or tap to advanced task killer and clear the apps my two icons from 5 page go back to page 6... So i can not move my icons because when i clear m y ram my icons set back to default... And this annoys me very much. So if you aolved this problem please upload that fix i would be pleaseful.

Oh swype skins! The cyan one is the sexiest of them all!
@jc Thanks part for the info, Any news what firmware will it be? I hope it's more of GB than FROYO. At this rate it's hard to say I'm happy with FROYO. Plus it's been a long wait o.o
i will port it to our phone just tell me which one to port.
Cyan is sexy..Altho, Who uses Swype? GoKeyboard seems to be alot more accurate over time now compared to swype
i have already ported cyan to FROYO
i have deleted swype in my XXKP9 any one please upload it here i will port it.

Go keyboard is based on a very similar text prediction engine like that of smart keyboard and swiftkey .... Plus it has skinning functionality ...
But honestly speaking it still is not the #1 prediction based keyboard in the market ... I would still bet money on smart keyboard or swiftkey ...
But raw speed typing is best with swype and speed mode enabled swiftkey...
Just my thoughts .. Don't get angry..

Hahaha, Nah i respect user integrity, At this point, I was thinking if swiftkey was worth getting, I've seen alot of bug related issues. Looking for something to replace the stock keyboard. Annoying part about swype is the keys vibrate, I know it can be turned off but the intensity is insane rofl. There are certain words that you have to type by yourself. And i hate when the phone auto spaces or replaces it with a "." About 80% of the time, My fat fingers tend to press "." and most of the words end up like hotlinks :\
Oh i see... Even i have small and stubby fingers but i don't have this problem with swype usually..
so i stick to it..
But honestly speaking swiftkey is the best as far as word predictions are concerned ...
Try purchasing it from amazon app store you might get some discount!
Go keyboard is good but its not close to swiftkey ...
But at the end of the day, installing a keyboard is a very personal choice ...

Very interesting things are going here...!!
I would like to ask one imp question. It may seem to be off topic but definitely it will help in this topic also.
I want to increase space in system folder of rom. Because I have applied green tripin theme. So now in system only 1.5 mb free space is there. I can't insert bootanimation file in system folder because of more size nearly 2.5 mb. I have already uninstalled unused system apps.
Is there any solution to increase free space in system folder? It will help alot for more modification in rom. It will also help to insert more skins related swype.
delete unneeded apps from /system/app/
same problem to me, i cant insert boot animation. When i delete apps in /system/app. It says file deleted but it reverts back in system/app. Any solution for this?
Thanks in advance

I've been running this since last night, and it seems to work much better for me than when I tried to run TW 4.5. The only issue I've had so far is with market updates crashing the market, but I'm sure that's from the way I restored all my apps, since I was so tired.
I would like to know if anyone knows of a way to do this true TW4 standalone from the ROM, or is the only way to use this ROM?
If it is anything like TW4.5, you have to turn on landscape mode followed by a reboot. It only has to be done once but once you do you get landscape.

Just manually add the apps you want on the dock.
(App Drawer > Menu > View Type > Customizable Grid > Menu > Edit > *Make Changes* > Menu > Save > Menu > View Type > Go back to what you like.)
It's a lot more annoying than other launchers on the market, but you can still do it. TW4 seems to have a maximum of three apps, plus the app drawer. On the custom TW4.5, it allows for more, but the app drawer still will always be the right-most icon. Those two things are all I would as for Samsung.. well maybe an auto-hide home screen number too. Minor annoyances but a silky smooth launcher.
Also, thanks for the reply xboxfanj, about trying to add this without needing to flash the whole ROM.
Thanks.

If I can find the time, I might try learning how to do that, because I'm having a bit too much trouble combining my mods. I might tinker with it, along side working on getting ACS ICS where I want it on my phone. In the meantime, I've been using QQLauncher. It's nicer looking, and more of what I want, since it readily works with ACS ICS, but TW4 seemed to be a bit smoother for me. Now that the Galaxy Nexus has been announced, I might also be a little more patient as things develop. Not to mention, Cyanogen is getting pretty polished. Decisions, decisions.. I'll be glad when I'm finally settled on something. Until then, hopefully I can learn enough to help put some of these solid mods together.

Infuse Roms?

Hello everyone i just signed up and i own a Samsung Infuse 4G and ive been flashing some roms on it lately and i want to know in your opinion what is the best rom.
i tried zeus, and i like it but i hate build 5.2 and build 6, because of the fact that wallpapers do not scroll. live wallpapers do, but static ones do not. I love build 3 fixed for ZEUS because it has scrollable wall papers and the app drawer is transparent. i dont like the black background when looking through my apps i like it see through.
but, being build 3 it freezes quite a bit. i tried CM7, didnt like it. i want to try something else.
I hate flashing roms and testing them because every time i restore it gives me an error saying "No sdcard/.android.secure Found. Skipping restore of SD card apps." so i have to re install 1 by 1 the apps with titanium backup and its really annoying. once i reach my 10 post mark i will start to post in the developers thread but this is all i can do now.
in a rom in need stability, no freezing no non working elements, all that.
clean, simple and crisp.
no dumb animations to lag the os and use mass ram. clean simple and fast. id even use gingerbread with touchwiz 4.0 like on the samsung galaxy s 2 skyrocket LTE that has a very good stock OS. maybe there is a way to put that on my infuse? I want to try s.u.r.f.a.c.e. rom but that's a hard way to flash it
any suggestions?

You can always Port your own ROM. Just saying.
If all you don't like about ZEUS is the launcher's look, then you can use one of the alternative launchers available off Market... err Play... or whatever Google is calling its new and improved more privacy breaking app download thing.
Off hand, the two I can think of are GOLauncher and PhoenixLauncher. I currently use GOLauncher on ZEUS and like it quite a bit, plus it's free. I think I'm going to give PhoenixLauncher a go after some of the bugs are worked out.

Yerp on the surface rom...super lite...has lots of add on apps...smooth,stable....
The reason that wallpapers don't scroll is a SAMSUNG issue, not a Zeus issue, a change they made in the new gb leaks, so they wont change, on any rom built from that leak. Build 3 is no more and outdated, so if you don't want another launcher I suggest keeping build 3 because I removed it from the server. And tw 4 is way too buggy and unstable, that's why it was removed and will not return.

Alright thanks,
And now I understand that about Zeus,
But anyway great job with it its still an awesome rom. I'll try to flash s.u.r.f.a.c.e

Well I'm currently running Z.E.U.S Rom Build 6. When I was stock GB (for the short time that was) I used the TouchWizz 4.5 Launcher, and I'm using it now. Scrollable wallpapers plus you can flash icon themes. Here is the XDA Thread Link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883
And the download itself:
http://www.i900playeraddict.com/android/TW45/HowTo.php?lg=&page=download
Hope that helps man
From what i understand...its bad to restore all apps from TB, as some may not be compatible with other roms due to missing or added files
At least if your restoring the data part too

[Q&A][GENERAL]Tweaked 2.x ICS

Howdy folks -
The main thread should be limited to major error/bug reports and logcats - use this thread for all the general conversation and questions/answers stuffs.
Hope you guys like it!
Downloading now testing shortly! (grumble grumble) ...stupid 8 thanks per day limit...
Ok - just wanted to share this as it was frustrating me and didn't make the 2.0 release... but I managed to figure it out
An early start to 2.1 I suppose...
Any way to change the docks with different apps?

Same way you do it with stock - you have to open up the app drawer, hit the menu button, then select edit. You may need to switch the view type first - do that, and then you can drag things from the app drawer into the dock and vice versa.
Hey again -
To the few that do try this rom out - feel free to drop suggestions for other things to try and work in (beyond lockscreens of course). While I do have one known (and one unknown) surprise ready, I'd like to get a few more things worked into an update if at all possible. I can't say I'll be able to work in what is suggested, but I'll give it a shot at least
Having an updated tw launcher or a different launcher with the ability to have 5 or 6 apps in the dock would be all that I would ask for. Everything else is fantastic. Thanks for all your efforts.

Yeah I've thought about such things, but I always circle back to the idea that there are so many great 3rd party launchers out there I should let it be to encourage folks to explore those options lol. I also am leery on putting in a launcher that has a pay version or has the whole ask-for-permission hassle (that's not really a hassle), but I'll keep my eyes peeled for something different.
I am of course open to suggestions

Yeah I have run the gambit : holo, zeam, adw, nova... all seem to be missing something that just isn't there or costs 4 bones to have... I'm gonna search through xda as the play store has been a bust. If I find anything I'll post for sure.

Seems a good ROM, thank you. One thing, Google now didn't seem to be there/working for me. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be but I added it without any bother so it's hardly a real issue. Oh also what does the 'swag' button do on quick toggles. It seemed to just take me to download mode. Anyway, thanks again

Google Now should have been working - all the stuff from the referenced link was added for it anyway. How is it different now vs. when you first flashed the ROM? Could you get me a screenshot of what it looks like for you now? Perhaps I missed something...
LOL on the swag toggle - I meant to change how that behaved. The toggle is there for fun only, but to mess with people on the Gingerbread build I had it set to force download mode if you turned it on while auto-brightness is turned on - I forgot to change that, my bad
EDIT: Derp... I see what I forgot... Ok, it will be fixed in 2.1, sorry about that For those not wanting to go and flash anything, all you need to do is delete /system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA.apk and then reboot and all will be well. My bad.
Google now just wasn't there before. It was standard search. Now I've added it mine looks like this:

I added Google now by flashing this zip which I found in the thread you linked to (so of course I take no credit for it and I'm not to blame if it causes the apocalypse)

Yep - everything in that is already in the rom, I just forgot to remove an apk. D'oh.
First off - thanks to those that have offered some feedback on this, it is very much appreciated. That being said, I know not many have tried this out but I'm getting an update together, so I wanted to ask if anyone has noticed anything else not working quite as they expected or anything that should be changed/added/removed...?
I haven't come across anything I wanna do with the launcher yet, but I have cleaned up a few things in the toggles, Google Now is now working as it should, I fixed another little bug I found when you first turn on wifi after flashing... outside of that is there anything people have found that I should address before updating? No worries if not - like I said not many have tried this out, but I'd like to get all the little issues ironed out before updating if possible.
Great ROM. Very smooth. But is there any way I can get the touchwiz ICS style battery percentage next to the battery icon?

Really I only think what's left is theming lol

Hmm... is there an image you can share for this? I'm just not sure if you mean the size/font color of the %, or if its the battery icon itself is what needs to change. Shoot me an image and I'll get on it

Yeah... the dreaded theming lol. Any themers in the house? I could take a crack at it, but I've technically never really done it before. I suppose now is as good a time as any to learn right?
Thanks for the feedback folks - with all the other options out there it makes me appreciate it all the more
Any way to see emoji?? I know go sms lets you see them.

Anyone using ICS still?

I'm wondering just in case GB starts to lose support from app developers. I'd like to know if ics is 100% stable at this point, and all features work. I'm all about stability and having everything work the way it was intended.
Bling is cool, as long as it doesn't introduce glitches and hitches.
Ummmm....ICS is pretty dead I dont know if anyone still uses it.....JB is more stable now I have no issues with any app

Only issue with both ics and jb on the infuse is camera stuttering on video recording...actually ics may have a couple mote bugs

Well, GB is pretty dead too, according to some here. But at least it's 100% stable. (at least the revenant rom is) But after perusing the JB threads, it would seem that there are still issues to be ironed out. It may be "good enough" for some, but good enough is not good enough for me.
I guess it looks like I'll be staying with GB for as long as possible. The only reason I upgraded to GB was because some apps no longer work on Froyo.
If you actually flash a Jb ROM I'm willing to bet you won't find something you use daily that has any issues I'm using carbon nightly and I don't have any issues....honestly GB doesn't have really any features I couldn't be on GB anymore

OK, please elaborate more. On JB, does flash work? GPS? And what go you mean GB doesn't have any features? I mean, GB works 100% as far as apps and functionality so I'm confused. It does what I ask it to. What would JB give me that GB doesn't? Are you talking about bells and whistles?

if by flash you mean torch yes gps works everything works that you would use daily im on carbonrom and there is nothing that i use (and i use everything) that doesnt work or has bugs
OK, but what does JB do that GB doesn't from a functionality standpoint?

I still use GB. I would not describe myself as a heavy user though. I use the phone mostly for the call, text and camera function.
I like my gmail, calendar and contacts sync'ed.
I don't have all the fb, twitter etc
When I tested out JB, I found a few things I liked:
1. gtalk updated better.
2. gmail had other options. Scrollable widget. Calendar had scrollable widget also. Calendar has more detailed display
3. Chrome worked. Native Browser was better.
4. Google body (now defunct-ed) worked..it needed a 3.0+ platform.
5. I don't use it but others like the theme engine.
6. The weather update on the lock screen was a nice touch.
7. The quick launch from the lock screen was neat...although I don't usually use the lock screen.
8. Back up and restore apps is more comprehensive.
9. Google Now and Google Keep is neat to try.
There were others but I forget...
For my phone, I still like the simpler GB interface and the battery life (less processes running means less battery usage)
fwiw, Entropy said his cm9 was stable..and "dead" too. Supposedly he had a more updated one but never release. Supposedly, aremo/he may have a different cm10?..I'm not sure though...
My final thoughts...to each his own...find something that you like...

Thanks for the info. I don't see anything on that list that is a must have though. Hopefully, GB will be supported by app devs until next spring when my contract is up. Carry on.
yeah..nothing must have..just interesting to test.
jb may be a step up in the most updated device designed to run it with support from chip set manufacturer. (ex: gn2, sgs3, sgs4)
for the most part, i prefer a tablet or pc...my phone is mostly a phone/digital assistant...but i suspect i'm a minority here

Well...unless it was fixed recently...camera is still wonky is it not? Stuttering with 720p recording...that's pretty major to a lot of people, although I myself can live with out it...it was a pretty major downside of jb/ics...on the occasion I wanted to get a video I really couldn't :/, but IMHO that one con doesn't weigh out the pros
But you can't say gb doesn't really have any features when they do have a fully working camera...just saying

But most people realize they're not going to be shooting hollywood movies with the thing. I'm not complaining though, it's good enough for what I need.
I thought ICS was the only version for the infuse with working full encryption?
I have 10GB of organized GB Roms/themes, ICS Roms/themes(lost files ), Tweaks for GB/ICS, all old recovery stuff, and 3 open source kernels Samsung had released. I have talked to 3-4 forum moderators for approval and I will be creating around 150 links for the infuse community for lost/broken links and there may/may not be broken but will all be on dev-host 4 u guys. I am hopping this will help u guys b4 I leave. I am hopping to make this post within the next week or 2 in the general section. Cheers
I am also going to be posting all the links to EVERY official post
Note* this is all I have left, I had a partition failure and I lost all I had but these files due to being on DropBox, I am still hopping to retrieve my missing files and Ken has been helping me all the way!=)
