Dish network App - Stuttering - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

The dishnetwork app (sling player in disguise) stutters and buffers a lot on my transformer. on my gtablet 2.2 it was smooth as silk, and gtab 2.3 vegan ginger had similar problems to the transformer. Since the video appears to be flash based it appears that flash hardware acceleration is not 100% fixed. Any one else using this app care to confirm the issue.

[Q] Youtube and HD playback questions

Had a couple of questions on the Youtube HD playback issues.
1) There is a lag in playing Youtube HD videos in both the app and the browser using Flash. Flash 10.2 with HC 3.1 claims to fix the browser playback issue. Does the Youtube app also use Flash for playback ? Does HC 3.1 fix the app playback issue also ?
2) The YT app has an option called HQ, but doesn't specify if its 480 or 720p. Any idea what resolution it plays the video under HQ option ?
Any takers on this
I like better the mobile site version of YouTube and it plays videos a lot better than the full desktop site version.
Both have lagged for me (the app and the mobile site). I'm pretty sure the YouTube app works without flash installed, so not sure how a flash update will fix it.
I'm going to download the latest Flash when it's released (10.3) and try it out.

That's interesting to me at least. The CNN app plays videos in full screen without lag or chopping frames, while the native Youtube app does lag and they both don't use flash. This makes me skeptical, if 3.1 would fix the issue with the playback lag in the app.

How's 10.3? Any better?
Not really, performance wise. We need honeycomb 3.1 and flash with hardware acceleration!

That's right, the 10.3 can be installed on 3.0.1, but the hardware acceleration stuff is for 3.1+
The other things this update have are security fixes for 3.0+
The 10.3 update seems to pretty much fix my Youtube lag problems. And a lot of the update might be for 3.1, but the release notes indicate it enables hardware acceleration by default on 3.0+ devices. So it should have helped you guys.
Strangely, the choppy playback in the app seems to be a non-issue on the Xoom, even on 3.0.1. So, makes me think what the issue could be on the Transformer
after updating to 10.3 my web flash seems smoother... even at 720p its definately watchable and seems decent... the app seems to still be a bit choppy... maybe not as bad (hard to say)...
Don't know if this has been mentioned yet as a workaround for the youtube app stuttering but it worked for me.
Install Dolphin HD and set the user agent to iPad.
Then when you touch play on a youtube vid choose Dolphin HD again if you get the app menu. DON'T CHOOSE THE YOUTUBE APP.
Dolphin should then load the default media player app and play the mp4 stream off of youtube instead of using Flash. Most HD vids were a lot smoother for me.

Tried this and doesn't work for me. Problem still exists
I'm working on a review of the Transformer and I emailed my ASUS PR rep.. speaking of Youtube, I asked him about this and his response was:
As for 720P+ fullscreen playback in Flash, this will be fixed in 3.1 as it will allow Hardware Acceleration for Flash, so for once Adobe is waiting on the OS guys to implement something first.

Yes, that would fix the flash playback issue. But, how about the playback lag in the Youtube app ? Does 3.1 fix it too ?

Yes that will be fixed with 3.1. I emailed him for clarification on the YouTube app being fixed and he said yes

Thanks. That really clarifies it. Will wait for 3.1
OK I returned my TF at PC Richards today and got a replacement. The speaker volume out of sync is gone in the new piece. The Youtube app playback is also much better in full screen, although it still lags for some videos. Also updated to the firmware .9 and things seem to be smoother. The audio fidelity also seems to have improved surely in this new piece. I'm more happy now

3.1 flash performance .. whats yours like

Hello, I just got my update and was excited because its meant to boost HD flash performance, however when I go to YouTube and choose 720p its still pritty choppy,
What's your opinion?
ive seen a coupoe of people mention that youtube in a browser isnt performing as well as the app. Have you tried the app?
edit: In fact ve just tried the same video in browser and the app, the in browser was barely watchable but the app was perfect
Yea the app is perfect. But its not just YouTube.com, if I go to engadget and click on a video in HD then its choppy.
After the 3.1 update for the xoom the 720p playback is smooth... should be here also?
with honeycomb 3.1,480p is my limit... when it hits 720p its not watchable, only audio plays well and it gets pretty laggy etc. Asus needs to fix these small bugs
Yes my YouTube app is fine but trying to play a 720p video from say daily mobile is very choppy
sent from my LEE Pad Transformer........I wish
Yea its strange seeing as the xoom plays 720p fine after 3.1 update
Is anyone else having problems watching certain vids on the App on 3.0.1 i got force closes trying to Watch Mortal Kombat Legacy, still the same with 3.1
I just tried my test video, and it is leaps and bounds better than it was yesterday. I'm happy enough
whats ya test video ? And how did it play before?
Its plays 720 p that's not the issue, its when there's a video on a website it struggles with it
Try this video see if it lags

sent from my LEE Pad Transformer........I wish
yea doesn't play on mine, but IV seen videos play on the xoom in 720p.. dnt get it
Maybe this is the reason that Apple refused to support Flash on their devices.
Lol not really, I love flash, had a go on a I pad day, couldn't even load the page I wanted, 720p flash works on the xoom, so it should here, its meant to be hardware accelerated
So, i'm not the only one who can't play 720p flash videos. Every video i tried there is stuttering. It's not smooth in the browser.
BTW: I have a a problem with my abos in the youtube. I'ts crashing every time i click on the section in the app. This is really annoying.
Yea for some reason its not as good as the xoom on 3.1.. that's gay
Anyone else getting Force closes playing certain videos as apposed to stuttered or degraded playing? Mortal Kombat Webisodes force closes the app and that's the only one so far. Anyone else getting the same?
Yea I got force close on mk

Has the screen sensitivity improved?
2 things to try:
1. On the stock browser, set the plug-ins in the settings to "on demand". That way you don't have banner flash ads rolling while you try to launch the embedded flash video.
2. Try it on Opera mobile or Dolphin HD with the same "on demand" settings and see if that fixes the browser video flash issue.
Youtube app uses regular mp4, no flash
Best comparison would be to go to youtube.com and look at the the videos
Youtube App is way faster though, full screen has no lags, but i havnt tried it on the site yet

so, help needed with gingerbread infuse with no h/w video playback

so here it is.
so my infuse had its factory froyo os on it and i decided to upgrade.
so i wanted to upgrade to gingerbread I997UCKI4-Homebinary.tar
so i did with odin, and soon relised it was crashing with mail, calls, restarts, shocking.
everytime someone calls it crashs and looses signal.
then i found gingerbread I997UCKJ1-Homebinary.tar
installed it today and it runs heaps heaps better, stable, no crashing except with email - funny though cause i've never used the email app.
however i also relised something major bad.
all my mp4 1080i files won't play in video player, it says "sorry this video cannot be played".
now if it was a 576 clip it will play, but i had clear 1080i music videos which i useto hookup via hdmi output and watch them on my plasma back with froyo.
so i went into another program mx video player which supports switching between modes of s/w playback or h/w playback. and it states that the h/w decoder is no longer available.
so im on a mission to get my hardware decoder funtioning again.
now i found that some o/s have different decoders so i figured if i can replace the decoder with the proper infuse froyo decoder it should work.
but i can't locate a froyo infuse decoder, i found others on the net namly libOmxVdec.so for the nexus h/w restriction.
so does anyone have any idea on what im talking about., im new to the android galaxy world and just trying to figure this all out.
i also tried to gain access to my device via superoneclick, but i don't think its supported..
Run a custom rom or muiu

any suggestions how can we enable the full HD videos to play.

480p Flash Performance

Has anybody been able to have smooth performance of 480p Adobe Flash Content in a browser? I usually watch movie trailers on Youtube for testing.
I have tried the various combos of older and the latest versions of Dolphin HD, Miren Browser, and Adobe Flash.
Overclocking to 1.2GHz helps but it still stutters.
I came from Humble 4.22 EP1W to the latest Humble 5.0 RC2 EP4P. I was hoping EP4P would smooth it out, but no luck.
The Youtube app will play the video without stuttering, but the quality is lower in my opinion. I believe it is because of Verizon's "optimization" scheme:
http://support.verizonwireless.com/terms/network_optimization.html
I may be wrong, but I don't believe that Verizon has the ability to "optimize" video streams from browsers that have the user agent changed to appear as a desktop computer.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Setup:
Humble 5.0 RC2
Imoseyon 4.0 kernel
Fugu ICS tweaks
V-6 Supercharger
As far as I have seen Flash sucks on android. I have a HP touchpad and when I am on webos I can EASILY play 1080p with no stutter or lag but when on cm7 I can only play 480p.
That's very interesting. I wonder what would cause that and whether it is intrinsic in Android's coding.
It seems that overclocking up to 1.3 - 1.4 Ghz should make it smooth, but I'm still researching the best way to overclock this phone.
I've tried up 1.252 Ghz, and that is semi-smooth with some laggy times.
Does anybody know if the recent version of Adobe Flash on Android is GPU accelerated? It seems that the power of the SGX540 should be plenty to handle 480p.

[Q] A question about HW Acceleration

From what I've read, we shouldn't really see much of a difference with HW acceleration in ICS when compared to Honeycomb on the transformer. But I just wanted someone to confirm perhaps?
1. I heard that Honeycomb already has HW acceleration enabled. Does that mean that scrolling between homescreens and other actual honeycomb components won't be any smoother? For instance, launching the apps launcher could be a little less choppy.
2. I actually find the stock browser to be ridiculously fluid and responsive, however, there are many apps such as OfficeSuite and other office programs and pdf readers (except for MyLibrary), which are substantially less smooth. After occasionally toying around with office apps on the iPad I begrudgingly am forced to work with these choppy apps on my transformer. So, what gives? Clearly the tablet is capable of fluidity as with the stock browser. Why doesn't this translate to these other apps I use? Will ICS help with this?
honeycomb hwaccelerates system apps ics will allow you to force hardware acceleration on everything and also be more efficent with memory than honeycomb
i would like to know if hardware acceleration will be enabled for videos
DicePlayer has HW accelerated video playback.

If you want to know about this crap, I suggest you read Dianne Hackborn's G+ stream. I'd link here but the app doesn't seem to support that >_<.
