Has anybody been able to have smooth performance of 480p Adobe Flash Content in a browser? I usually watch movie trailers on Youtube for testing.
I have tried the various combos of older and the latest versions of Dolphin HD, Miren Browser, and Adobe Flash.
Overclocking to 1.2GHz helps but it still stutters.
I came from Humble 4.22 EP1W to the latest Humble 5.0 RC2 EP4P. I was hoping EP4P would smooth it out, but no luck.
The Youtube app will play the video without stuttering, but the quality is lower in my opinion. I believe it is because of Verizon's "optimization" scheme:
http://support.verizonwireless.com/terms/network_optimization.html
I may be wrong, but I don't believe that Verizon has the ability to "optimize" video streams from browsers that have the user agent changed to appear as a desktop computer.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Setup:
Humble 5.0 RC2
Imoseyon 4.0 kernel
Fugu ICS tweaks
V-6 Supercharger
As far as I have seen Flash sucks on android. I have a HP touchpad and when I am on webos I can EASILY play 1080p with no stutter or lag but when on cm7 I can only play 480p.
That's very interesting. I wonder what would cause that and whether it is intrinsic in Android's coding.
It seems that overclocking up to 1.3 - 1.4 Ghz should make it smooth, but I'm still researching the best way to overclock this phone.
I've tried up 1.252 Ghz, and that is semi-smooth with some laggy times.
Does anybody know if the recent version of Adobe Flash on Android is GPU accelerated? It seems that the power of the SGX540 should be plenty to handle 480p.

Hi all.
I purchased this device mostly to be used as a companion for when I stream to Justin.TV. This website uses both flash video and java at the same time. I want to monitor my video stream and the chat while I play. I know I could of got a netbook for this, but I would like the tablet for doing other things.
Some streams with lower quality work good for me, but my stream does not play. The stream will freeze, but I am able to hear the audio. My stream is in flash and is 720p, 3000kbps, H.264.
I tried some other 720p flash video and received the message "Video Not Optimized For Mobile Device". (Uh, yeah, that's why I bought a tablet and not a phone). Obviously this is because of the Android OS and not the hardware?
So I am half-happy because I can see the chat, but not the video. Is there anything I can do to help this? I am running TnT 2.2.0 with the flash player linked to in the thread.
If this can't be fixed for now, does anyone think it will be resolved in the future? Perhaps a better Flash apk that supports the Tegra better? Or would I be better with the new Viewsonic Viewpad?
Thanks
A lot of this is bleeding edge. We are using a phone OS that has been modded for tablets and not supported by Google (yet). And, the Tegra itself is relatively new and has had issues because of it.
In six months, I expect that a lot of these issues with be old news. But for now, it's a problem.
Which browser are using? Have you tried Dolphin HD and changed the User Agent to desktop?
For my stream I get the same results with the default browser and Dolphin HD, but for some reason with Dolphin HD I am forced to the mobile site every time. Even with user agent set to Desktop. So I can't try the HD flash video with Dolphin.
There is no mobile version of my stream.
Based on roebeet's post, I guess i'll stick it out and hope it gets better. I am already somewhat happy because I can run Ventrilo and see the chat at the same time. That's already more than my iPad can do.
Now if I can just get the USB keyboard working.
Thanks for the replies.
Hello, I just got my update and was excited because its meant to boost HD flash performance, however when I go to YouTube and choose 720p its still pritty choppy,
What's your opinion?
ive seen a coupoe of people mention that youtube in a browser isnt performing as well as the app. Have you tried the app?
edit: In fact ve just tried the same video in browser and the app, the in browser was barely watchable but the app was perfect
Yea the app is perfect. But its not just YouTube.com, if I go to engadget and click on a video in HD then its choppy.
After the 3.1 update for the xoom the 720p playback is smooth... should be here also?
with honeycomb 3.1,480p is my limit... when it hits 720p its not watchable, only audio plays well and it gets pretty laggy etc. Asus needs to fix these small bugs
Yes my YouTube app is fine but trying to play a 720p video from say daily mobile is very choppy
sent from my LEE Pad Transformer........I wish
Yea its strange seeing as the xoom plays 720p fine after 3.1 update
Is anyone else having problems watching certain vids on the App on 3.0.1 i got force closes trying to Watch Mortal Kombat Legacy, still the same with 3.1
I just tried my test video, and it is leaps and bounds better than it was yesterday. I'm happy enough
whats ya test video ? And how did it play before?
Its plays 720 p that's not the issue, its when there's a video on a website it struggles with it
Try this video see if it lags
http://dailymobile.se/2011/05/31/android-get-plants-vs-zombies-free-today-from-amazon-app-store/
sent from my LEE Pad Transformer........I wish
yea doesn't play on mine, but IV seen videos play on the xoom in 720p.. dnt get it
Maybe this is the reason that Apple refused to support Flash on their devices.
Lol not really, I love flash, had a go on a I pad day, couldn't even load the page I wanted, 720p flash works on the xoom, so it should here, its meant to be hardware accelerated
So, i'm not the only one who can't play 720p flash videos. Every video i tried there is stuttering. It's not smooth in the browser.
BTW: I have a a problem with my abos in the youtube. I'ts crashing every time i click on the section in the app. This is really annoying.
Yea for some reason its not as good as the xoom on 3.1.. that's gay
Anyone else getting Force closes playing certain videos as apposed to stuttered or degraded playing? Mortal Kombat Webisodes force closes the app and that's the only one so far. Anyone else getting the same?
Yea I got force close on mk

Has the screen sensitivity improved?
2 things to try:
1. On the stock browser, set the plug-ins in the settings to "on demand". That way you don't have banner flash ads rolling while you try to launch the embedded flash video.
2. Try it on Opera mobile or Dolphin HD with the same "on demand" settings and see if that fixes the browser video flash issue.
Youtube app uses regular mp4, no flash
Best comparison would be to go to youtube.com and look at the the videos
Youtube App is way faster though, full screen has no lags, but i havnt tried it on the site yet
The dishnetwork app (sling player in disguise) stutters and buffers a lot on my transformer. on my gtablet 2.2 it was smooth as silk, and gtab 2.3 vegan ginger had similar problems to the transformer. Since the video appears to be flash based it appears that flash hardware acceleration is not 100% fixed. Any one else using this app care to confirm the issue.
I've got an Infuse 4g with the "compiled CM7" ROM... I'm getting slow video playback.
The test material I'm using is a TV show, transcoded using handbrake on the iPhone 4 preset, modified for 800px screen width.
Plays smoothly on computer and on phone using MX video player on software decoding setting. Does not play smoothly in the included video player or in MX with HW decoding setting.
Is there anything I should try to fix this, or should I pick a different ROM?
I've now briefly tried both numas and zeus and have decided that I definitely want an AOSP ROM... I think. So I need to get video playback and recording working well if possible.
Maybe someone could point me towards a couple ROMs... I'll try all of them if I have to but I'd rather be able to settle down with something I like now. Here's what I want:
- Minimalism. The default android stuff is hopefully default for a reason, and that reason is that it is more stable and does what it needs with minimal consumption of resources. Basically the opposite of numas, from what I saw in the few minutes I spent on it. No offense to the dev, of course, but it's just not me. So basically, CM7 or something like it.
- No touchwiz. Me no likey. At all.
- Gingerbread, of course
- Everything should work.
These requirements are ideally fulfilled by the CM7 rom with properly working video, but for now HW playback and capture are both giving me problems.

Alright... You want gb with everything working... Lol. Go by an HTC..... YOU need to learn how to USE android. Because you can make Zeus and Numas as minimalistic or not as you want. You just have to learn. Noob.
Continuing from other thread.. Don't make battery observations of guesses til you have used it. They all take a lot of energy. A lot of it die to the screen. Never had a problem streaming any videos with default of MX

On the playback side, I'm trying to play the video on numas and it doesn't play at all. Says it can't play it. So it must be in a bad format.
So, I'm going to switch back to CM7... Still think it has video recording problems.
try dice player. its the best. if it doesn't work try a different encoding. the infuse has a better gpu than the i4 (both from imagination texhnologies) on a similar CPU (its made by Samsung) and the 4s has a better gpu and cpu but the gpu is also from imagination technologies. the i4 settings should have no trouble on the infuse unless the iPhone has better drivers or kernel design but who knows. you might have to play with the encoding.
Hey All,
Just got the transformer prime and I'm trying to get it to play 720p mkv videos, but only a few seem to play smoothly. Most of them have a lag with audio and it's choppy.
I started on ICS and found it pretty bad with none playing properly. After reading the forums it sounds like i'm not the only one. Others were mentioning it was working fine on HC before the ICS update.
Based on that I installed one of the Revolver 3.11 HC ROM and notice that it was better but still not 100%. I've tried BS player, MX player, Dice Player and none seem to do it.
I've tried playing from internal memory, sd card and streaming but no luck. I also installed the OC kernel to get it to 1.5ghz but it's still not watcheable.
I've read many post on how people have it working properly.
Am I missing something?
I've tried various file size: Spartacus s01ep5 (1.7gb, 55min show), How I met your mother (1.1gb, 30 min show), Survivor (1.1gb 45min show).
Bump.
hm... thought other people would be wondering the same thing

it seems you have tried a lot of ways, you may think about changing the video format, if you are interested, you may read this post, it seems to be able to solve your problem
1080p 720p MKV movies playback on Transformer Prime High Quality Settings
hey there, thanks for the info. Thought the transformercpuld do 720p so its prettybig let down. Not really looking to do the converting. I have got it sort of working but not as smoothas I was hoping.
I noticed that article was about the Prime... Does that mean even the prime have issues with .mkv files?
It kinda surprises me since my crappy MIPS tablet can play 1080p high profile mkv's without issues, so you'd think the very expensive Prime could do that as well :s
A question though... Isnt Splashtop powerful enough to stream movies running on a PC (through LAN)?
In my mind it should be, seeing how its supposed to be able to stream games. Or is there any other RDP app thats capable of doing so?
Sorry for sneaking in like this :d
