I have a G2x and my Baseband is Mar27 2011 I have read on here that the July15 2011 baseband might clear up issues and make the phone work better is this true?
I am also rooted on a 3.3.4 ROM if I updated the baseband can I reroot my G2X?
As far as I know, nobody has uploaded the july baseband. I think the only way to update it would be through the lg tool or ota.
I don't know about one-click rooting, but if you get the baseband through the official update, you can always just flash prerooted gingerbread.
Sorry I wasn't very clear I was talking about going back to stock and then using the lg tool and update to stock 2.3.3 that has the July Baseband. I want to make sure I can reroot back to other roms after I do this and if anyone has done this knows if the July Baseband is better than the March one?
1. 2.3.3
2. Yes, you can reFLASH other roms after updating to the new baseband, and root them.
3. For some, the new baseband has fixed gps issues. Others seem to be having issues with the data signal.
yeah buddy!
i just reverted to stock using the later NAND backup, V21E.zip , then the LG upgrade tool recognized and flashed without errors, tho before I restored to stock it was giving me some errors in very poor english.
Revert to stock -> LG Update -> NVFlash CWM -> CM Nightly = GPS works! FINALLY! I haven't been able to use my GPS on pretty much any rom til this point.
I definitely vote for the go ahead, the new baseband makes a difference for sure!
Fixed thanks and great info so far kiddecks have you noticed any issues with your data signal? the gps is not a feature I will be using a lot my main focus is on reception and data.

Don't forget to remove CWM as part of reverting to stock. You don't want to give the lg tool any chance to brick your phone like its doing for some people.
Thanks for that I will make sure to remember did you update your Baseband heysharon?
Not yet, the ota is either being dodgy or slow to come by, and I can't get the lg tool to install on my computer. Until the ota arrives for my phone, I'm hoping for the off chance that someone will upload the new baseband.
ok thanks for all your help from the sounds of it you also want to try out the new Baseband
Was wondering if anyone was still working on making
a zip file of the July baseband? I'm sure it would be much
Appreciated by many here. Thanks

Do mean clockworkmod recovery? If you want to flash back to stock recovery you can use the one click nvflash tool from the development section. When you're at the step where you choose which version of recovery to flash just choose stock.

so, you have the new baseband, but not the recent gb update?
I think he means the stock kernel? Watch the video and yes your kernel goes to stock.

I did the update from the LG updater but didn't like it. I just wanted to go back to Froyo with the old baseband so I can get the OTA update. I know the updates were the same, it is just person preference.
nvm...............
back to stock
yes i would also like to get rid of my garbage xboarders rooted LG ota 2.3.3 rom and start with a clean slate. i want to run the update either OTA or direct from LG updater, but I can't with the July 15 baseband. i'm having a lot of problems - i have to reboot phone to switch from wifi to data or vice-versa, echo sound through headphones, DTS makes music sound distorted and echo-ie, GPS takes FOREVER to lock on location (i even tried doing the hidden menu fixes), and a lot of times when I turn my phone it won't find a signal so i have to reboot (and i live in downtown portland, or), and tons of apps are just showing white boxes for icons, the whole thing is laggy as hell, etc. etc etc.. ever since i've had new baseband i've had tons of problems, regardless of what ROM i have installed. i've tried different kernels too.. so must be baseband right? i hope someone can help us out soon!
Ok, so I just purchased a rooted G2x off of ebay. I'm coming from a moto cliq (yes, make fun of me) So i'm a bit over my head when it comes to custom ROMs and such. I'm on 2.2.2, and need to know what I should do.....
I've been having some data connection issues even if i'm on Wifi, the connection will just drop and won't come back for about 15 seconds. It's getting pretty bad, and i'm exasperated atm.
Do I upgrade to the LG 2.3.3? I don't want to lose my camera's features.
Do I install CM7? will that fix any of the touch screen issues and connection drops?
In your opinion, what would you do if you were in my shoes?
I'm open for all suggestions.
I would go for the update because it updates the baseband which deals with radio signals and may help with your connectivity issues, i would TRY CM7 for a bit and see how it goes. You can backup in Clockword Mod Receovery and when you restore to that backup you will have exactly what you backed up from. So backup on 2.3.3 --> install CM7 --> try it out for a few days ---> restore if you dont like/keep if you do.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still a bit confused though, when you say install 2.3.3 and backup(is that the stock 2.3.3 from LG>). Does that mean i'll lose my root? and I was under the impression that CM7 was GB, just a custom build with root permissions.
Lastly, how would I install the LG froyo camera?
Thanks for the help

Doing the official update may help because it upgrades your baseband.
You'll lose root until you restore you CM7 backup.
CM7 is GB but there is no way to update the baseband currently (that I know of) without doing the update.
You can't currently on CM7.

Again thanks for the quick reply. If i used CWM via NvFlash to backup my current image(2.2.2 rooted) and then updated to 2.3.3 via LG GB. Would I be able to go back to my 2.2.2 rooted if I didn't like 2.3.3?
Thanks to both

Mister Hat
You would be able to. But I was suggesting that you update to 2.3.3 (official) and then install Clockword mod recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847&highlight=clockworkmod) Then backup from there (2.3.3) and flash CM7 (based off of 2.3.5) and if you dont like THAT then restore to stock 2.3.3.
Another option would be to update --> install clockwork mod---> flash this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748) Which is a rooted GB. This would leave you with a stock 2.3.3 ROOTED, if you like the stock.
Overall I'd definitely go for CM7 though. More features just great overall. Also if you're looking to overclock then it IS possible with the stock GB thanks to Faux (http://twitter.com/#!/faux123) flash the latest G2x kernel on his twitter. Then you can overclock.
Bottom line I would just backup your current 2.2.2, install 2.3.3 through the LG updater (be careful following instructions in doing so) and just flash different ROMs and see which ones cure your issues best and which suits you best.

Yes. After the official update you will have to flash clockworkmod recovery again, but then you can flash any rom you want.
UPDATE 6-15-2012: i just wanted to update the beginning of this post to make it a little clearer, the original text is below
to get the v21y base band on your phone over the air, you have to go back to stock
to do this you need a stock rom, either your own backup or the one from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644 (the first and second link is a stock 2.3.3 nandroid which is a zip you extract on your pc and run flash.bat from inside that folder)
if you need the drivers, download the third link.
follow the steps in that thread, it works
if you have your own stock nandroid, just boot into ClockworkMod Recovery and restore it (after you backup whats on your phone now)
then reboot your phone
after restoring either your stock nandroid or the one from the post above, shut your phone off and remove the battery and use NVFlash to restore the stock recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
reboot your phone
now that you have your phone like it was from the beginning you can go to System Settings/About Phone and click on Software Update. this should pull down the updated Gingerbread version 2.3.4 and the new baseband v21y. IT WILL OVERWRITE YOUR PHONE AND WILL BE PLAIN STOCK
it takes a few minutes so be patient
once it is done and it rebooted your phone you will have to put ClockworkMod Recovery back on it using NVFlash. then you can flash other roms to your phone
please keep in mind that there is a bluetooth issue with both GB and ICS roms on this baseband and that only a few roms actually support v21y. Owain has written an update file that you flash to get support on any rom with v21y, supposedly it does work on any rom (GB or ICS) but i have not tested it, so read up and test if you want.
as of CM7 RC3 all CM7 builds support v21y
please thank the owners of the threads linked above, their methods worked flawlessly for me and i hope they work for you as well. this was a very easy way for me to get the new baseband. good luck!
original post------------------------------------------------------------------------
i was having a heck of a time trying to get the new baseband installed on my phone. i had all the stuff downloaded and all the instructions ready, had the KDZ file, the LG tool, everything...but i could not get anything to work
so what did work?
well using CWM Recovery i restored my stock backup i had made when i first got the phone (best to save this off the phone as well in a safe place) and then using NVFlash i put the stock recovery back on it
once that was done and i was booted back into stock you can go into the About Phone and choose Software Update (or whatever its called) and check for an update. it found one and proceeded to download a 30meg file. asked if i wanted to apply the update, installed it, and rebooted into a nice shiny new 2.3.4 GB setup with v21y and the new baseband installed!
the CM7 nightly build (June 3) is working great. getting ready to try a couple of others (Buru, EB, Genesis (although i was having a problem there, see that thread))
so its only been one day on it but so far calls are good, gps lock is fast, overall loving my phone even more than before!!
Great that the OTA worked for you, I left my phone stock the whole week it was mentioned about sending it and I checked the software update and it always told me the software update check failed/timed out lol

I am extremely pleased with the update.
I had been running a rooted stock ROM + CWM Recovery. I had been dismissing the update notice for weeks now. Finally, earlier this week I flashed back the stock recovery and let the OTA proceed.
Current uptime: 67:59:06
I haven't gone a full day without either a random reboot or a sleep of death in a LONG time.

you are on stock rom AND stock recovery? data connections good otherwise?
A little clarification, if I may...
Could I just flash the stock 2.3.3 nandroid from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048274 to bring myself back to "stock" then, using NVFlash that's already on my computer from when I first rooted my phone, flash it back to stock recovery? After that, try the OTA to get myself to 2.3.4 or, if that doesn't work, use the LG Updater tool? Then just root my phone again and go back to enjoying custom ROMs?
Seems like it would be easier and one step less if I get the nandroid from that thread rather than following the link in the OP and having to extract something on my computer.

there is a bluetooth issue with all roms and the new BB so if you use BT you might want to stick with the stock 2.3.4 that you will get with the upgrade. lots of devs are working on that issue so hopefully it wont be long
suggestions?
I followed the instructions in the first post, and now am back on the stock rom (21e, july 15 2011). However, when I go to try the software update, I get the following message: "current version is the latest version." Is there another way to get the new 21y baseband?
It has been FOREVER since I have messed with my G2x. But lately it has been super laggy, the keyboard never picks up what key I pressed properly, and the accelerometer is a MESS.
Im currently on March 2011 baseband, Android Version 2.3.7, and a very, very old nightly.
Im looking to update to the newest baseband as I hear it is a huge improvement, and also try out an ICS rom. I have been browsing and reading up, but am so rusty on reverting and flashing.
Would the proper, easy way to do this be as follows:? This is what I've gathered from reading, just don't want to brick my phone for a stupid reason.
1)Flash a stock ROM - Full Factory Wipe
2)Update baseband with LG Update Tool
3)Root Phone again
4)Flash Custom ROM?
Also, can you revert to stock ROM without an external SD card? I was reading a few topics stating you can't. I also have a backup of the original stock ROM(or at least I think) from a very, very long time ago. Can I just restore that?
I apologize in advance for all the questions, just trying to refresh my memory on this entire process.
from what ive seen, after getting cwm on your phone via nv flash you install one of the ics roms then before rebooting the phone you have to install a fix via cwm that owain has on one of rom pages (domination i think) then you are good to go. and yes, you have to use an external sd card for all of this.
After updating baseband you will lose root as well as CWM. You need to put it back on before you can flash a custom rom on it.

Ahh thank you! And I can not run the tool from a custom rom, correct? I have to flash back to stock, and then the updater will update baseband as well as unroot everything.
I also dont have an external SD card, so I guess I will be buying one to flash back to stock
I got a p500h from my friend since my razr droid died and I needed something to hold me over until I can save up for the note3. It had 2.2 on it so I flashed CM 10.1 for 4.2.2. When I put my sim card in I had no service.
I checked the baseband and it was unknown so I flashed it for v.20 and it appeared but I still get no service.
I don't have gapps installed because I don't really need it.
And that's pretty much it. I can't think of anything else to try, can someone help? I'm using a non-smart phone in the meantime and it is quite terrible.
Try the old Baseband fix, that did it for me some years ago, not sure if you need the v10 baseband coming from 2.2 but the fix should work. You can find it here on the Forum.
If nothing works, use kdz to flash the Stock Rom and start over.

Is definitely the fault of baseband. Some rom is incompatible with any type of baseband. Try to download from play store an application with baseband-ril match...

Sounds like you have an old baseband phone, but you flashed a new baseband ROM on it. In that case, simply flash the zip indicated below (I suggest you mount /system in recovery before flashing, even though the script auto-mounts /system, just to be sure). I'm attaching two zips for the sake of completeness; the one you want is the Use_New_BB_ROMS.zip.
Use_New_BB_ROMS.zip -- Flash this zip if you're trying to use a new baseband ROM on a phone that uses the old baseband. If you have no network on 2.3 and above ROMS, your phone probably uses the old baseband, so this is the zip you need.
Use_Old_BB_ROMS.zip -- Flash this zip if you're trying to use an old baseband ROM on a phone that uses the new baseband. If you have no network on 2.2 and below ROMS, your phone probably uses the new baseband, so this is the zip you need.

I tried to flash it but I get an error: can't copy META-INF/com/google/android/updated-binary
Should I be wiping cache for this? Dalvik cache?
I used LGMDP-v1.5 to get bb v.20 on my phone in the first place, I tried to do the same with v.10 after v.20 didn't work but it just went back to baseband unknown. when I tried to download the milk_os fix it just linked me to some phishing page.
What recovery are you using? I've tried with AmonRa & CWM 5.0.2.0 and both work. Other CWM versions will probably work, too. Haven't tried with TWRP.
If this flashed successfully but you still don't have service, then you might have borked something when changing baseband in KDZ. If that's the case, then hopefully others will be able to help you as I've never touched KDZ myself.

I tried it, here's what happened.
First I just flashed it, I checked the baseband, it was unknown. Previously it was v.20 so I tried flashing in v.10 since this was a fix for v.10 AFAIK
Still unknown.
Tried flashing the fix again just to overwrite whatever it needed to overwrite and still unknown.
