I searched the forums and google and couldn't find an image similar to what is happening to my fuze.
So yesterday I noticed a problem with my fuze screen, and i don't know if i can't explain the problem or what, but at&t is convinced it's damaged and will charge me a bunch if i even try to send it in.
There are no cracks, scratches, whatever. (I wish i could take a pic, but the only cam i have is the phone)
The problem is that the surface of the screen (I think the soft touch screen top) seems to have a thin layer of 'something' in there. It is the same shape as the screen, centered, and about 70% of the screen's size. The effect is something like the shimmer/rainbow from a very thin layer of oil on water. (thin film interference?) Anyways, the touch screen still works, the lcd still works, the glass isn't cracked, and I have no idea what happened. I use a screen protector and am very protective of my baby.
I'm thinking I need to order a new digitizer and replace that? ($25 and some labor doesn't sound bad after talking to AT&T about what i would get charged if they decide it's physical damage)
I dunno, if anyone has experience with damage like this or at&t or replacing digitizers and has any words to help me, either with explaining what happened or what i should do, that would be much appreciated.
I had the EXACT same problem on my fuze. It looked like the layers of the screen began to seperate. AT&T scared me that they would charge me for this so I sent it directly to HTC and they replaced the screen at no cost to me...took about 2 weeks.
AT&T Warranty agents are trained to be cautious in regards to damage to devices as the mail program doesn't leave much(any) option once you send the phone back for the exchange. It's either no-damage/no-charge or damage/charged, after which you cannot go back on the exchange.
My advice is to see if there is a Device Support Center in your area.
http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=KB91429
I went to one with my possibly damaged Fuze and they took a look at it and exchanged it without any "possible" charges jargon.
If that isn't an option, you could buy a pre-paid phone to use while you send it in to HTC as TheSopranos16 did for repair.
Good luck!
Sir, the problem you have is this:

I only hope my xperia doesn't get it.
i have this same exact problem. its technically called a newton ring. att wanted $500 to fix it and the htc rep told me that whenever they encounter this they usualy dont cover under warenty because it is due to pressure on the screen and it would cost something like $300 to fix. so i basically said forget it and now im stuck with it.
Love the phone, but the dust is really annoying me. I have 3 specks which are really noticeable when i'm outside.
I ordered it online to be delivered instore. Has anyone else been able to exchange a phone instore if they ordered online with Vodafone?
Don't think I can be arsed to arrange a return only to have the same problem or worse. I would rather exchange the handset instore so I can check it before I leave.
Sorry to put a downer on things, but it's really bugging me now
That's why I never pre order, i rather buy it from tmobile corporate store so i can check everything.

Wow HTC phones still have this problem? My Nexus One and MT4G eventually got dust under the screen and it annoyed me to no end... like it or not dust will eventually find its way in if there's a gap.
Samsung fuses the screen to the glass so no dust can get in but it makes repairs more costly (since you have to replace both at the same time, but warranty should handle that).
hmm this is not good. Please report more cases of this. I returned my G2X because of this very reason. 2/4 of the units i had, had this issue.

actually from what i know, the desire s and incredible s are also with dust in some of them. so i think maybe u have to accept it though its annoying. eventually the dust will be there.
If I cant get it replaced instore, I will most probably stay with my Orange contract and upgrade to the Samsung GS2 next month. Will work out cheaper too.
I am torn though as the Sensation is a lovely piece of kit.

Thats not acceptable for me unfortunately. I had an iPhone with dust underneath which I got swapped out and it has been dust free since
still lucky
under my incredibles screen i found a rat
what happened to HTC's amazing build quality??
Hi folks. Just registered to let you know that I also seem to have dust under the screen of my HTC Sensation.
There seems to be just one speck, but it is very noticeable. On white backgrounds it nearly looks like a black apostrophe or comma. On colours such as the light blue part of the default wallpaper it is a bit less so, but still plain enough to be seen on pretty much any colour, except black or really dark shades, if one looks a bit closer.
Mind you I am a little bit less upset than initially, when I though it was a bunch of dead pixels in the LCD. I only figured that it was trapped dust, when I inspected it holding a very bright LED light close to the location of the speck while the screen was auto-locked/gone to sleep. Then I tried while powered off. I assume that on a phone that's off, dead pixels don't stand out from other pixels under bright light, hence my conclusion that it must be dust.
My phone was bought from Vodafone's (Ireland) online store.
Same problem here.
Same dust problem here .I just noticed it and my phone is beeing used for 3 weeks.
I have just had my Sensation replaced which managed to get dust underneath the screen as it was quite visible and really annoying as I initially thought it was a dead pixel. My new sensation which I recieved this Monday has also already managed to get specks of dust under the screen. Athough these are not as visible I guess it is a common problem and will have to just deal with it !!!
unfortunately I too have dust under my screen.
having been using it for 3 weeks , I don't have the dust problem as yet, but for those who have dust inside the screen, where the dust goes in ? (e.g. from the headphone jack, usb charge port, etc) just wonder if we know where it get in, any precaution we may take.
Just noticed dust under mine. Never got dust in my G2 and i had that thing way longer than Ive hhad this.
I've got the same problem. After about an hour of use I noticed it, although it could have been there when I got it. It's not too noticeable as I've put on a screen protector and that's got a speck or two under it because I suck at putting those on.
The dust has come in from the right hand side about 1cm up, so not near any ports.
Not sure that it bothers me enough to take it back, but if more appears, I may be.
Having the same problem with HTC Sensation 4g - Dust under the screen
I have the HTC Sensation 4G from T-mobile and I am having the same problem. It started with a speck, then it got gradually worse. I have only had the phone about 6 weeks, but it's bugging me to no end.
This is a known manufacturing defect guys. There's a whole nother thread about it in general section. Htc knows about it and if you contact them they will replace it, including sending a prepaid slip with it for the return is the defective unit.
The defect is some sort of crack between the digitizer and the screen on the right side just above the midpoint that let's in lint and dust and junk....

Just got off the phone with tmobile, told them I had dust under my screen, they asked if I dropped it in water, idk what water and dust have in common but, there sending me a new device with express shipping so ill get it tomorrow. And they said "its a known defect and HTC has since fixed it and the new sensations they are sending out won't have this problem." Idk how true that statement is but one can only hope.

I’m on my third Sensation the current device has been back twice, and I’m still waiting on its return...
Originally returned 25th July – Eventually got it back 9th August. Less than a week later I had to return it for the same dust fault. It’s now been 15 days and there’s little or no news on its return.
By the looks of it they are replacing the digitiser and LCD, as they did in the first instance...
If this is a known problem to HTC they sure as hell are taking me for a ride.
Yesterday I checked out my friends brand new iphone 4 and he has dust under the screen, another friend has dust under the screen on his htc inspire 4g, another has dust under the screen of her iphone 3gs, another has dust under the screen of his droid x.
I never really looked closely for dust under the screen of ANY of the previous phones I have purchased, but I started becoming paranoid about it on the sensation because of the thread I saw here on XDA.
It seems like it's a fairly common thing and something we are just stressing over too much. I don't know.
I agree, I can find dust on a lot of phones .. unless seen during normal usage I don't care...
To be honest, it really isn't. It is a manufacturing issue that should be addressed by HTC. My iPod Touch 4TH gen has been in and out of my pant pockets for the past 7 months now and I still don't see a single speck of dust under the glass. My sensation wasn't so lucky. I put this phone in those same pockets and within 5 days I saw a few specks of dust.
This seriously cannot be normal.
Normal? This problem have plagued htc phones since winmo days. I'm not saying phones don't get dusty but htc consistently have this problem.
OP absolutely not a normal thing.

Since when another phone having dust under the screen makes it acceptable!? Its like when Apple said that all phones experience the death grip issue and it is perfectly fine for the iPhone4 to lose signal!
Ive owned 10 + HTC's and its not normal at all.
You could after the warranty just open it up as its an easy fix for most phones. Or one could not put it in their pocket as its the most likely place it comes from. How cool would you be with strutting your stuff with a sensational belt clip ?
I have no dust underneath the screen of my phone and I have had it about a week.
After 18 months my HD2 still has no dust under the screen, however I noticed a few spec of dust under the screen on my Sensation as I took it out of the box.
There is also a very small (0.2 mm or so) gap at the bottom end of the phone between the case and the screen where I can see down the side of the screen.
Luckily a quick call to Vodafone Costomer Services and they're sending a new handset out by courier to replace this one
I don't think it's normal... It was normal 10 years ago when our standards were A LOT lower, but now it shouldn't happen.
I don't expect dust in my computer screen, or my camera screen, so why have it here
Not normal at all for me either. My N1 and Touch didn't have dust. This POS replacement I got today does.
OhMyGod!!
Now I have a lot of dust under the screen and I think it ot in through the space betwwen the display and the frame. It is now very visible how large this space is. They should have blockd this space with something. I really do not appreciate this from HTC.
It is design flow, SIMPLE!!!!
I just don't understand how they keep on having the same flaw.
It´s not normal at all! I remember last having this issue with old Nokia phones (6230i etc.) Since iPhone 3G times (see my signature) I never noticed this issue on a single phone! But my Sensation Now it´s on warranty repair and as it returns I sell it immediately.
Just got a new sensation back after having the dust problem and the replacement has a nice black dot under the LCD screen that can be seen under dark colours....
Really not happy at all....
So more time without a phone...

I lost my sgs4g recently and was looking into getting an htc sensation. One thing I'm noticing is that the screens crack pretty easily (falling from 5ft). The sgs4g has gorilla glass and I would drop it plenty of times and although it would fall apart without the case(back cover and battery pops out), the screen would never crack. From what i have seen, the htc has gorilla glass yet it cracks so easily. Why is this? Is there a screen defect with the phone? From what I've seen so far, the phone seems great but the screen issue users seem to be having concerns me.

i know of a digitizer issue but an easily crackable screen? never heard that one before
ok i read a bit further and the way most people spoke of the phone,it had me think they were one and the same. the digitizer will crack easily but the screen itself will be fine am i correct on that?
Is there anyone else that would like to chime in on this? I remember reading a thread where a person asked whether if the replacement digitizer would be gorilla glass which had me think that the digitizer and screen are one and the same. Also are there any other issues with the phone besides the digitizer that i should know about?

the display and the digitizer screen are separate pieces
the digitizer is a part of the gorilla glass screen and the display is beneath that
it doesnt crack, it shorts out and stops working properly for some. it can easily be prevented. if it happens, its an easy fix and if you want a new one you can replace it i think its about 20 bucks
oh ok great how can i prevent it? and is the easy way to fix it the software update as mentioned in a stickied thread? i basically dont want it to ever look like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142379
All you need to do is to be a little bit carefull whit your phone ..
I wonder why are you so worried lol do you drop your phones alot ?

The Sensation does NOT have gorillaglass.
You can effortlessly push down hard enough on the digitizer to get it to touch the actual LCD panel underneath. It's an oleophobic plastic.

oh, is that right? you might want to check THE GORILLA GLASS WEBSITE

Which brought me to another question. Is it possible that certain phones have lower quality gorilla glass screens than others?

i would say yes
just from the design of our screen (curved around the edges) it could possibly make it a tiny bit weaker
Hello all I hope someone here can guide me because I am at a loss.
A couple weeks ago I cracked my screen and have been searching for a replacement
Digitizer since then but everywhere I look is either out of stock or comes with the
LCD (which I don't need ).
I know this is a bit forward for my first post here but I am hoping someone
may have a suggestion as to where I might be able to pick one up so I can finally get my phone back to it's
original glory.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions on this matter.
In htc digitzer and screen are unity, so if you have problem with touch, you have to change all screen.

From what I have read the glass and the digitizer are one piece but it is possible to separate the LCD in this guide :
androidforums. com/htc-one-s/609247-how-fix-htc-one-s-screen.html
Problem is every website I have looked at the glass/digitizer is out of stock and it's triple the price to get it with the LCD.
you can't separate, because in amoled all layer are connected in fabric.
http://www.oled-display.net/wp-content/uploads/u2/super-amoled-technical-details.jpg See this pictrue the touch sensor is under glasses.
i repair phones for a living. and i'm telling you, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TAKE APART THE DIGITIZER AND LED!!! most new htc phones, like the iphone 4/4s and newer samsung phones the glass and display come together. yes, it is possible to take them apart, it's more hassle then it's worth, you are almost guaranteed to break your display (unless you've done it a few dozen times) and then when you try to put everything back together, it will not fit together right because the LED will be warped by your pulling and bending it out of the frame. also, any part you see sold as just the digitizer is either not the correct part and even if it fits and works it is not OEM

I appreciate you taking the time to clarify that for me, I had hoped it would have been easier than that. I can start looking for the correct part now and finally get my phone sorted out.
Again thanks for your help.
