Observations:
* Dual core is overrated. Nexus is just as fast in real use. Though dual core may be better for battery life.
* Tegra2 games work with nexus s via chainfire 3d
* I much, much prefer the Nexus s build quality, AMOLED screen, curve is much nicer; though the g2x is higher resolution due to amoled's pentile display, colors are much nicer on AMOLED, especially blacks.
* G2x briefly loses signal when switching from 2G to 4G mode, meaning missed calls can occur during that time
Nexus S issues:
* Wifi randomly disconnects even with sleep mode set to "never"
* USB Storage disappears randomly requiring reboot
* Capaciaive buttons especially back button get stuck requiring pressing power button to sleep then unsleep the phone
* Camera crashed on me once and rebooted. (I'm on stock 2.3.5)
Sprint vs Tmobile:
* Sprint 3G is abysmally slow. T-mobile's 3G which they market as 4G is faster than Sprint 4G with much lower latencies
* 3 way calling, call hold, call waiting/swapping features much better on Tmobile...can do 6 calls at once
* I think overall call sound quality may be slightly better on T-mobile (not 100% sure) but definitely less staticky/noisy on Sprint. I can hear more highs on T-mobile and fewer echo problems. I've enabled EVRC-B and 4GV on NS4G by the way.
* T-mobile has txt message delivery confirmation and auto splits SMSs over 160 characters, Sprint does not

I can't speak about carrier since I only know T-Mobile, but the Nexus S is definitely a beast. I've owned 2 and I do admit that I miss it. It feels just as fast as the G2x despite it being a single core. My only gripes with the G2x is battery life, the camera and signal. My gripes with the NS is 3g and the internet browser being choppy. In the end the G2x would be the better phone in my opinion if the software was more optimized. I love the G2x hardware and hope that LG gets this hardware right.

Amazon currently has the Sprint Nexus S 4G for 1 cent. Unlike local retailers Amazon wont charge tax on the value of the phone so you pay 1 cent out the door. The lowest plan with that phone is $79.99 a month. ETF is only $200 so not really a loss since you are paying one cent for the phone lol. I am debating about getting my 3rd G2X from Tmobile, paying the upgrade price for a Sensation($300), or going with Sprint on the almost free Nexus.

Whaaa??? How?
The gorgeous beveled edge and solid slab of glass feel of the G2x is by far my favorite aspect of the phone. Previously I felt that nothing could compete with my old N1 as far as "feel in hand" went, but the G2x just blows it away. IMO my NS feels like an absolute toy compared to my G2x. Not even on the same level. The G2x just feels perfect in hand. In fact that feel is probably the only reason I've held off picking up an international SGS2.
That said, I can't wait to sell my perfect, defect free G2x for a US carrier SGS2 as soon as the opportunity arises. SAMOLED is just too gorgeous.

It's a set of open source 3d drivers for android. Lets any phone play games meant only for superphones like the g2x.
The G2X blows the Nexus S 4G away in every single aspect...
Super AMOLED is pointless, the LCD on the G2X looks so much better.
The Nexus S feels like cheap, and lightweight. No heft to it whatsoever.
No MicroSD Slot.
Sprint 4G is slow compared to HSPA+.
There isn't even HD Recording on the Nexus S.
Only thing the Nexus S has over the G2X is faster updates. But even that doesn't stop the G2X, we have a huge Developer Community.

The feel of a device is totally up to the person holding it. I actually love the feel of my Nexus S and its lightness. When I'm at work I hold my phones in my shirt pocket and sometimes I forget Samsung phones are even there. I think that's what Samsung is going for when they build their phones because I can tell you right now. The plastic they use is pretty strong and their devices are well built. All of my Samsung phones have survived numerous drops and multiple fires where it would get wet and not one has ever got damaged. Just because a phone feels like a toy does not mean the build quality is cheap or poor.
If this is the case, every time I remove my G2X battery, I fell like I'm going to snap the cover in half its so damn flimsy.

The Nexus S is a pretty fast phone for a single core. LG's IPS display is killer, but I also like the vivid colors of SAMOLED. The Contour display adds to the design of the phone. Frankly it feels more comfortable to hold than my rectangular G2x. The build quality of the NS though is an afterthought. The G2x definitely feels more "premium".
Lastly, I wonder why they omitted the Micro SD card slot in the first place. It seems like a step back for those who aren't cloud frequent or want to store more content locally. I have a 16GB card in my G2x and that's soon to be filled up.

Im using a nexus s right now. I love tthe screen on this phone and how snappy it is but I'm also on at&t. Meaning edge only. I could really care less about android 2.2 or 2.3 the thing I look for is screen quality and size. Next would be battery life. I came from an iPhone 4 and keep reverting back because of the battery life and network speed. Would you guys recommended an inspire over the nexus s? Is there anyone that has used the nexus s and iPhone 4 that can give me an unbiased opinion?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Get it. this thing is snappy. Dont go by that crap about the processor being outdated. This thing flys. I have used my friends evo 4g, man this thing blows it away. I dont know if its the ram or the processor is tweaked up. having used a few android phones, I can say right out that this thing is snappy.
If you can live without a front facing camera I would say go for it.
I've used all the phones you mentioned and I actually own the inspire, iphone 4, and a captivate. The captivate is similar to the nexus s.
The screen size is great. It will be hard for me to move to anything less then 4.3in from now on. Clarity is also great and is on par with the iphone, but much better then the samsung AMOLED. Contrast is much better on the AMOLED, though. Blacks do not look..err.. as black like they do on an AMOLED screen, but color are definitely more accurate.
Battery life is decent considering the phone has a small battery. The iphone definitely takes the cake in this segment, but the inspire is much better then my captivate was.
Speeds are phenomenal. I'm seeing speeds close to 4000kbps and they are only going to increase as the months pass. The inspire definitely holds the edge over the other devices here.
In short, this phone rocks. It is definitely the best device you can purchase through at&t right now and with it being easy to root should be more popular then the motorola atrix. Get it! You won't be upset.
Battery life is NOT as good as an iphone4, dont get me wrong, it's close, but I do find myself having to throw it on the charger at work or charge on my 20 minute commute to get through a day. Thats actually my ONLY complaint about it. It's faster than an ip4, does more, feels better in the hand, build quality is just as good if not better, and due to the stupid design on the battery cover neither battery is removable. Just kidding, you can replace the battery on the inspire, but it is not the easiest thing in the world. Watched the ATT rep break 2 trying to sell me one.
I'd say go for the Inspire, however, I will tell you that an At&t band Nexus S just past through the FCC. There is no release date yet but you'll have that option soon.

I agree completely.. I'm probably going to pick the Inspire 4G up no matter what, but the Galaxy S II, specs-wise is intriguing. There are 2 glaring issues with the GSII though
Made by Samsung
The OS won't even support dual core until at least April and youre looking at even longer for developers to take advantage. So real world improvements with the dual core are several months out AT LEAST, and even then its almost exclusively going to be games. Sending TXT, email, phone, browsing, heck even watching video, a Snapdragon/GPU combo is more than enough. So its like cruising your Corvette in a school zone for 6 months

Samsung is a joke in my opinion. They still have yet to release 2.2 for all their galaxy devices and keep coming out with the same galaxy devices, granted a couple extra inches added to the screen and newer versions(2.3) of touchwiz. Just my opinion again but wtf were they thinking releasing a vibrant on tmobile with a front facing camera and hspa???? Hello most vibrant owners have already made the mode themselves. Next post will be about their plastic=) Sorry but theyre a joke IMO right now

If you use gps then HTC will murder Samsung in that respect. I feel like the Nexus S was a poor choice to be the next Nexus device. It's too similar to the Galaxy S devices that have been out for quite a while. I came from the iP4 and also have a Captivate. The Inspire is fast. Really fast. I haven't noticed any lag and that's one of my biggest things. Using the Captivate is torture and I have it rooted and running Cognition.
This or the Atrix are the only really solid choices on AT&T for the next few months. The Infuse will be typical Samsung. Screen will be pretty and it will be the last of the three phones mentioned to get Gingerbread or any other updates.
The Ip4 has the best battery life of any smartphone with a 1ghz cpu IMO. I have used every highend android phone that has come out, including recently the Desire Z, Nexus S, and now the Inspire. I will skip out on the ATT 3G version of the Nexus S because at $560 with tax, it just isn't worth it espeically with other "better" phones coming out that will be the same price in the up coming months. It a good chance that the SGS 2 will be about $500 to $600 espeically with the Atrix at $500
I like the Inspire because of it's screen size, and definitly the cost per performance of it, only $430 with tax outright from ATT. IMO I don't see paying $140ish more for a phone with similar performance, on the otherhand I think if the Inspire was $500, that would be too much for the hardware.

True but the iphone is not clocked at 1ghz. it is the same cpu as ipad but clocled slower from what I have read.
I know this thread is old but I thought this information might be helpful for people who are stuck buying older phones.
I have both the Nexus S i9020A and Inspire 4G at the moment and I have made the following observations.
The Inspire HSPA connection (3mbps) is far better than the Nexus S (1mbps).
SMS fail to go through on the Nexus frequently.
Both phones are running 4.2.2 ROMs. The Inspire is far more responsive probably due to it's memory advantage over the Nexus.
The Inspire screen is larger and easier to type on and read. The colors are also more subtle and easy on the eyes.
The Nexus S screen has deeper colors but the default color profile makes the whites look yellow. Also, the pentile matrix is obvious and hard to look at.
Battery life is much better on the Inspire with 2 days of standby with WIFI, GPS, and HSPA/3G. Nexus S can only go about 12 hours with the same configuration.
The Nexus S is lighter but feels a bit more fragile.
The Nexus S is picky about which USB cables it will work with.
The Inspire camera can take finer quality pictures than the Nexus S camera.
The Nexus S is stuck with 16GB of storage while the Inspire is expanded to 32GB.
FWIW I'm on Straight Talk AT&T SIM
I own both. neither are on a mobile network, NS used to be, call quality was great. However, I literally got the Infuse about 30 minutes ago so I'm doing what I can with it to see how it is. It's pissin me off I can't get system updates bc of no SIM. I think I'm gonna work on something to put my Bionic SIM in it. I'll let you know a fair comparison of the two. so far, both, look awesome, feel awesome, both are snappy. NS4G has TONS of support, I'm about to see what that's like here for the Infuse, thats what I was coming to do when I stumbled across this. I'll post updates.
UPDATE: Already, when playing various games, I notice that the touch response on the Inspire is not nearly as sensitive as the Nexus, that's one reason I love my Nexus, is the intense screen sensitivity and of course, the screen in general. the AMOLED is amazing.
Though initially I wasn't going to, I decided to give the G2X a shot. The following is my real world experience with the G2X as compared to the Nexus S.
-One of the first things I noticed with the G2X is that it feels a lot more solid than the Nexus S. It simply feels like a better quality product.
-Screen: The Nexus S has deeper blacks than the G2X, however the G2X has richer more natural colors and the screen is much brighter and is more visible in sunlight than the Nexus S. Overall, I prefer the G2X's display over that of the NS.
-Horsepower: Obviously the G2X has more horsepower than the NS so I won't go too in depth on this one. Yes the NS is snappy (mine was running CM7 with netarchy kernel and it flied) but the G2X still felt faster and more responsive overall.
Battery: In my opinion the Nexus S has THE BEST battery life of any smartphone I've ever owned (and I've owned quite a few of the higher end phones). The battery life on the G2X is not bad as I can get through a day on a charge with moderate use. However, with the NS I could EASILY get through a day on a charge with HEAVY use and still have battery life remaining.
Data Speeds: I am in Atlanta and the 4g speeds that I've been experiencing here have been in the 5-10meg range, but mostly around 5-7megs. As for web browsing on the phone, the speed difference from the Nexus S isn't very noticeable. However where the speed difference does show is when streaming video or video chatting when not connected to wifi.
Speakers: I love that the speakers on the G2X are on the bottom of the phone. This means that my phone can be sitting on a soft surface (like a bed) and I can still hear it ring, whereas with my NS when the phone rang and it was face up, it muffled the speaker badly. The speaker volume of the G2X is fantastic, the richness of the sound however is not. The speakers on the G2X are much louder than that of the Nexus S, but the richness and depth of the sound on the NS is better. I wish they could have gotten the sound quality as good as on the Nexus S but still have the volume.
Camera: The camera quality on the G2X is definitely superior to that of the NS, ESPECIALLY the video camera. I compared a video shot with my NS and one shot with my G2x (1080p) and there is no comparison. The G2X wins hands down. Still photos come out clearer and richer on the G2X also.
Misc Features: NS has NFC (which of course is almost useless at this point in time). The NS has hdmi-mirroring (which can come in handy every now and then) and MICRO SD SLOT (the NS was the first smartphone I owned that didn't have an sd card slot..which was quite an adjustment).
Overall: I like the G2X better than the NS, although there are things I do miss about the NS (better battery life and richer sound quality). Overall, the pros far outweigh the cons and thus I am very comfortable with having sold my NS and having replaced it with the g2x. Hopefully this post will help someone who may be on the fence about making the leap.
My main gripe with phone is screen I prefer amoled
I'm all set with constant backlight not to mention the gx2 screen has major backlight bleeding
Ips is one of the flagship panels for computer LCD monitor but IMO still don't compare to OLED
3 Most popular topics over in that forum is
backlight bleeding

Having used both phones side by side and compared the same images right next to each other I have to say that I disagree with you. The only thing that seems to look better on the NS' screen is the blacks. The colors are richer and have a more natural look on the G2X. On top of that the G2X screen is more visible in sunlight than the NS.
My friend has a gx2 actually it's his 5th one with backlight issues. He is sending to LG for repair pretty sad but that seems to be the only way to resolve
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I really think the whole "backlight issue" is overblown by a bunch of nitpicky people. Every time a phone comes out, no matter what phone it is, there is always some "issue" that people seem to harp on. I don't have any issues with my backlight at all. As for your friend, perhaps he doesn't realize this but, the backlight will "bleed" with lcd. Look at a solid black screen on an lcd television and you'll see an example of this. If this isn't something he is comfortable with, then he probably shouldn't buy any phones with an lcd screen. I for one don't see this as an issue at all, due to the fact that you really have to go out of your way to notice it. In the meantime I prefer to have the richer and more natural colors.
If you're compairing colors off 2.3.3 kernels without voodoo color. Then yea g2x looks better because Google messed with color profile and looks absolute garbage colors are dull
But in real world u can't compair ips doesn't have an unlimited constrast ratio and true blacks like oled and its a fact the higher the constrast the more vibrant colors are.

I am not comparing lcd and oled. I am comparing the Nexus S and the G2X. LCD vs Oled is a different conversation. This post is simply about how the phones compare to each other in my real world use of them.
lol i said my main gripe is the screen. and you replied bak so that's what our convo is about.
And i know its common in pretty much any LCD for backlight bleed but not to the point is interferes with IQ its especially noticeable in the two top corners and you can see it threw the notification bar...granted not all are like that but allot are including my friends 5 he went threw
now with that said i never said te phone was bad becasue its not and i agree it out performs the NS i just cant stand the screen and sorry but you look at the function 99 percent of the time you use the phone.
If you like it than that's cool you have every right to its great phone

You don't see it as soon as you boot your phone on the top corners? I noticed it in the tmobile store with florescent lighting immediately.
Look at this thread.

It's a shame b/c it washes out colors and really detracts from an otherwise excellent phone.

ok, im getting the onslaught of crappy G2 refurbs, so im considering a new device and the only 2 i will consider is the G2x (might have to pay full retail for it) or another MT4G (already had one, would hate to get another because i already had it but tmo will substitute it for free)
im conflicted with leaving the G2 because it has a keyboard, and overall my biggest issue, but a 4incher may not be too bad, and for that ill have to try out for myself to see if it is suitable.
as for other things, this is where i have questions:
from 4 different internet reviews like cnet, engadget, etc all said battery life in stock form exceeded their expectations by lasting a whole day under medium heavy use, so im just wondering if others are getting the same basic battery life
how is the speaker for ringers on this device? the G2 speaker sounds like some cheap 80's walkman. its not a deal killer, but i would like to know if its better. hard to demo since i dont use stock ringers so i wont have a way to really compare.
screen response, i have read the screen is really sensitive, the G2 screen is not horrid but not impressive either....the MT4G is a lot more sensitive compared to the G2, and going from the MT4G to a G2 is probably what spoiled me on the screen sensitivity. can anyone throw some input on this or confirm that the reviews are accurate?
call quality....this seems to be the number one con on this phone according to reviews online....can someone throw in their 2 cents on this? this is concerning me the most as the G2 call quality is very good, the MT4G call quality was ok but the G2 i found was a lot better.
outdoor screen visibility. this is the other big deal breaker...the G2 in daylight just plain sucks...period. its practically useless even on full brightness, this is the number one reason that will make it easier for me to sacrifice the physical keyboard.
also, after reading this thread, i have some major concerns about the rebooting and freezing and overheating...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081180 are newer built devices doing better than the original release shipments?
G2 with CM7 has very impressive battery life...crushes the G2x.
G2 speaker sounds like my old handheld 1984 green football game with 4 blinking red lights. The G2x sounds like a 2000's walkman, it's serviceable The iPod touch sounds much better...
Screen sensitivity is awesome on the G2x. I never had a problem with the G2, but it's improved here.
No issues with call quality on the G2x for me. My only issue has been with data reception...it's worse than my Nexus S...and I can't get the thing to tether worth a damn. My laptop connects to the hotspot, but never gets internet.
Outdoor screen visibility is unmatched on the G2x.
No reboot/freeze issues here.

pretty much spot on... only extra remark i will make is the battery is that i am almost certain battery life will improve once we get an OTA update including new battery and radio drivers, something is a little off or wonky about them...
assuming you know what you are doing, you should be able to get 20-30 hours of light to moderate use no problem... i got 36 hours of light use on one charge switching between wifi and 4g depending where i was at...
I am lucky to see 12 hour day on stock battery on my G2 running cm7. On my extended battery tho it was awesome.

Can you Explain your data issues please? I only use wifi at home, cell elsewhere while I'm out. I don't use that hotspot crap. Is it poor reception or just a delayed or slow ping response?

I tether my Xoom to my G2X with absolutely no problem. If the wifi network is even relatively slow, the hotspot is usually a better option for me. Although the device does get a little warm.
Lg at least from a verizon standpoint was always good and solid and reliable, which a reason why I was considering the g2x....I read about a lot of negative stuff about the g2x and not in a way where I have to search either...I can't seem to find proper specs on the screen tho on what type it is.

800x480 ips panel. I don't know how many colors it is able to display though
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
How does an ips panel compare to an amoled or super amoled etc?
I checked it out in the store its not too bad, but data was not provisioned on the device so I couldn't try it out. General signal seemed identical side by side when looking at the signal meter.
Audio was a night and day difference
Typing seemed ok, but I think I have a mental block with the physical keyboard.
I'm on the edge with it, and when I asked the sales person about problems he seemed shaky but did say it reset a lot and a simple battery pull would fix that until it does it again.

I had an opportunity to borrow one from corp store rep.
Unfortunately, I am not impressed with this machine. The screen gets washed out if you watch more than 30 degrees off while G2x doesn't (it gets blue tint though).
The rep told me it gets 24xx on Quadrant, which is about same as my G2x.
Moreover, mine doesn't have much problem, so it may be wise for me to stay with G2x and wait for Samsung Hercules.
The screen size makes me want the sensation. The screen quality keeps me at the g2x
G2x with faux AOSP
Timely thread for me. I'm returning my 2nd one and was really studying that Sensation a little while ago....."Should I cut my losses and get this"? Looks pretty good, it really does, but I'm staying with the G2X.
Hopefully the third one works without the reboots. But it is so nice I think I'd likely try a fourth. This after much thought.
It definately needs replacing.....hell it disconnected w/ black screen WHILE I was talking to the T mobile rep today LOL and while it did not reboot in the night, it did lose the bookmarks.
But my daughters is still running perfectly. Not one problem.
And man, this phone is just like her. When its good, it's very very good, but when it's bad....
I really love this phone.
How often are you getting these reboots? I've had a total of 3 G2X's in my household, and none of them suffer from reboots. I had to replace mine today because of USB issues, but other than that the phones have been great.
1st locked up twice and the flashlight went on (?) and I had to pull the battery. Frankly that wasn't enough to return it but two days later was when they mysteriously disappeared fron the shelves and I had an Ick attack. It was on my 14th day and I exchanged it, just in case.
This one as I said elsewhere has been resetting in the night. Every morning I wake up to the phone wanting my sim password. I accidently activated that and like it. But seeing it tells me it has reset, which I would not notice otherwise I don't think. And I have been interupted three or four times on my calls with the phone shutting off. And it reboots randomly and frequently during the day. This is not good.
The first day (friday) it locked up with a very loud buzzing sound, not like the vibration but a loud buzz. This is my main reason for sending it back. I do believe the reboots issues will be fixed with the update.
In retospect I probably should have kept the first one. It was problem free other than the two incidents.
I really don't know which way to go.I'm a die hard invidia fan and the tegra 2 IMO will outperform the Snapdragon anytime but due to all the build issues with the G2X I just don't know where to look.

the screen part: HTC has long had a problem with screen visibility in direct sunlight, and it seems that issue has continued somewhat with the Sensation. It's definitely a step up, as at medium brightness you can make out what's on the screen, but compare it to the iPhone 4's Retina Display or the Super AMOLED Plus of the Galaxy S2 and it's miles behind. However, the resolution is definitely a step forward, and the sharpness of the text is impressive.

Big toss up. Screen size is very tempting. I loved HTC built devices and the LG kinda let me down with all its kinks, but the support is nice.
I've got a solid G2X, no freezing, rebooting, and minimal screen bleed (after 1 return). The sensation looks like a great phone to me but the size of the G2X is the biggest I'll ever go. And after 2 HTC phones I'll never go back until they replace that damn speaker phone speaker with something you can actually hear.

In all honesty, that second link was mostly garbage. If you're going to compare 3 devices, at least do it in a common and neutral environment. It seems a bit silly to judge text clarity when you're looking at several different examples on different backgrounds and text effects.
Angle of view is also useless after a certain point. If you're viewing your phone at a 20 degree angle, it might be best to worry about untying yourself and getting away from your kidnappers first.
wasnt the screen on this thing supposed to be abit concaved? certainly didnt look that way in them pics on one of them links!

Yes, or atleast its supposed to sit a bit inside the housing so that when you set it face down it doesn't touch the surface.

I thought the same thing, go look at the specs compared to the G2X
http://androinica.com/2011/04/t-mobile-g2x-vs-htc-sensation/ scroll down a little.
G2X Dimenions
4.90 x 2.50 x 0.40
Sensation Dimenions
4.96 x 2.57 x 0.44
and only weighs .22oz more for the aluminum feeling.
I remember reading people really liked the metal strip the G2X has, that they would avoid putting a cover on it cause it looked so nice!!! I agreed but still bought a case since I'm selling the G2X for this aluminum sexy model called a phone, haha. I just love the feel of HTC phones prefer Sense overall as well... sucks for those with all those issues and still want to keep the G2X I feel bad as I have no issues and am still selling this phone.
Good luck peeps.

Have no issues with my G2X either but I feel the Sensations aluminum body isn't enough of a upgrade over the G2x but I can tell you what is a worthy upgrade. A SGSII variant. It's still the phone to beat and is still called the best Android phone that exists. Engadget even said in the Sensation review that the SGSII was more responsive and had more power. Myriam on Engadget said it wasn't enough to get rid of her SGSII and Sense was holding it down. I think I'll pass since I won't have enough app storage available to even store 2 of my Game Loft games. It's 2011 and HTC is still giving us 1gb of app storsge.

ya I dont want plastic at all... and launcher pro will take care of the sense hogging down if it does slow it down... doubt it will. The Sensations resolution helps with pixels... I've seen a couple captivates, and a vibrants that had weird looks to the text stuff... Sure they are bright and vivid but clarity is awesome...
Besides that Samsung has a well bad rap when it comes to phones, lol... just saying the G2X is awesome but I prefer HTC and Sense.
Let us know how you feel when its not so great in sunlight.

remember people
the sensation has most likely been sitting in boxes with those encrypted bootloaders.
and the benchmarks i see do not score 2400 on the sensation.
But it should be a decent phone, also the sensation has the mhl connection not a seperate hdmi and i hear it doesnt come with the cable. and they are hard or imposible to find.
also the mhl standard does allow charging but no hardware out at this time knows that standard so no charging while using hdmi out.
It did take 3 tries but i think i have a good g2x finallly it was dated april 30th for anyone that cares
So i would wait and see whats said once they come out.
Im sure it will be a fine phone but if you are into modding id wait and check out that bootloader first.
Sense ui eats so much ram!

No way would I touch a sensation after I researched it for my buyers remorse period when I bought the G2x. Glad I made the right choice in choosing a phone. I never had a problem with any of my G2x phones. I traded the first one because of the backlight but never had any reboots or issues. The second one is near flawless.
The Sensation looks like a sweet phone and all but it is just to much of a step back in too many departments coming from the G2x.
Less powerful CPU/GPU
1Gb of Storage vs 8Gb
Lower Front Cam Res
MHL HDMI Out - Power
Encrypted Bootloader (which may or may not be unlocked) (HTC said "future phones would be unlocked")
Ram Killer aka Sense
Sure you can opt to run Launcher Pro and not use Sense... but that doesn't mean that Sense just vanishes. All those graphic files have to be stored somewhere. I cooked many Sense roms to know the difference in weight between a Sense and Non-Sense rom.
So I'm getting a new phone, and I've been looking around at tmobile phones, and this phone seems pretty amazing. Price isn't bad, either. I'm coming from a Cliq 2, which had very little dev support, and this seems like its got tons. However, after reading a little on this forum, it seems like some members don't like this phone.
Now, I'm not looking for a top of the line smart phone, although the HTC Amaze has crossed my mind, but this phone seems to have tons of good things going for it, with its cameras, display, and processor.
So, would any of you recommend this phone? Or should I look at other choices?
Thanks!
Sent from my MB611 using Tapatalk
Stock ROM is junk, I had reboots, and wifi would connect, but won't actually work.
Good news is, it's super easy to flash a new ROM, I use Weapon, and it's perfect.
So with the new ROM, you get a decent display, clear call quality, fast, loud speakerphone, and good batt. life.
So if the price is right, I'd buy it.
There is absolutely no reason to buy this phone today. Things like the Samsung Galaxy S2, the Galaxy Nexus, and whatever it is HTC is pushing these days (I don't keep up with Sense phones) are most assuredly going to be better. The G2X was outstanding in its day, but that day has past.
To be more specific, the 1 Ghz processor is underpowered, 1.2 and 1.5 are the norm now. RAM is even worse; the 512 of the G2X is pitiful compared to the gigabyte that is standard on newer devices. Tegra 2 is still a very good GPU, but with the weaknesses of CPU and RAM it's just not worth it.
As far as camera and display, both are unremarkable. The display is LCD instead of the LED that phones normally have; this results in duller colors and blacks that aren't very dark. However, the screen is perfectly visible in any level of daylight, so make of that what you will. I've never ran any tests, but the camera strikes me as average. Nothing particularly special about it.
As far as problems go, while this phone was riddled with them on release pretty much all of them have been fixed by either LG or the devs. Dev support, by the way, is superb. Nothing lacking on that front.
I say you already made your mind up on getting the g2x if its features are already pulling you in. No matter how many ppl say yes or no believe what you want out of the phone first. I love my g2x even with minimal screen bleed and occasional reboot its the best phone I've had yet.

Haha alright! Thanks!
Oh, I'll be ready for anything to flash ROMs, the Cliq2 wasn't the easiest phone to do so on. But alright, that's good to hear. From what I've seen this phone has CM7, MIUI, and a bunch of other ROMs, like the one you said. That gets me excited, but I won't be looking forward to telling my girlfriend what I'm doing haha.
Yeah, it'll be $100 for the upgrade, so I think it'll be worth it
If you're worried about cost, the G2X is definitely worth it.

Amaze is cool but the G2x is the best value for a high-end smartphone on any carrier. I hear people constantly complaining about 1Ghz processors instead of 1.2Ghz or 1.5Ghz. This is baseless; it all comes down to performance. Not as if benchmarks are any better of an indication, but overclocked at 1.55Ghz, I get 5000+. Absolutely killer. Over 100 FPS in Quadrant.
Also, IPS display may have some light bleed (mine has ZERO) but the viewing angle and brightness are superb. It's no SAMOLED but still, looks beautiful. A slew of awesome ROMs coupled with outstanding build quality. It's a fantastic device.
The only thing keeping me from recommending this 100%: LG support is absolutely garbage. Be prepared for little attention for your baby G2x if you get one. LG flatout denies many issues and fails to provide support for consumers and developers.
I've also owned a Sensation, MT4G Slide, and MT4G (most recently) and the G2x is hands down the boss. I say get it. Or buy mine so I can get a G-Slate.

Yeah, from what I've read processor speed won't make too much of a difference with overclocking capabilities.
I think I've officially been sold on this phone, especially for this price and from what everyone is saying!
Another vote for "good value for the price" if price is a major consideration. If you're going to be flashing ROMs, I'm almost certain you can find something stable that will work properly for your phone. Enjoy!
The g2x is a great phone for the money right now. It performs as well as just about any other phone right now and has a ton of great features. It's no longer top dog, but it's not really surpassed by any other phone by a significant amount.
Plus they're just about free at target with 2yr upgrade right now. Can't beat that.

The only thing I'd watch out with the Amaze is its battery life. From the reviews, it sounded pretty bad. The Galaxy SII would be a better choice, but I hate how the AMOLED screen looks (It's bright, vibrant, but has a strong color shift). G2x's color is more comfortable to my eyes (pure personal preference here).
For the price, g2x is great
Alright, I'll be sure to keep that in mind. I think I'll be getting this phone though, you all have made it seem great haha.

My fiance has the Amaze, and while she seems to love it, she HATES the battery life. It's pretty abysmal. She's a very light user and she's charging it every day, minimum, even when it's just sitting on the counter not being used. If she does decide to use it the battery life dips down to 2-6 hours at absolute best even with 2G/low brightness/etc etc. It's a very battery hungry phone and there is absolutely no way to get S-OFF on it atm, which for me is a complete turn off for an HTC device.
Also, her phone loses signal in a lot more places than I do.

I'll throw my opinion out there. For a T-Mobile phone (not counting the $750 GSM galaxy nexus, only phones you can get through T-Mobile) this phone might take a back seat to the amaze (I have no experience with that one, so couldn't say). But I've had both the sensation and sgs2 and g2x beats them both performance wise. Sgs2 did have the best battery life though.
Of course there's also the size issue, I really don't like my phone being bigger than a 4inch, yet it seems like all the manufacturers are forgetting about people like me, I mean come on if I wanted a tablet I'd buy a tablet!
