From Nexus S to G2X my impression - T-Mobile LG G2x

Though initially I wasn't going to, I decided to give the G2X a shot. The following is my real world experience with the G2X as compared to the Nexus S.
-One of the first things I noticed with the G2X is that it feels a lot more solid than the Nexus S. It simply feels like a better quality product.
-Screen: The Nexus S has deeper blacks than the G2X, however the G2X has richer more natural colors and the screen is much brighter and is more visible in sunlight than the Nexus S. Overall, I prefer the G2X's display over that of the NS.
-Horsepower: Obviously the G2X has more horsepower than the NS so I won't go too in depth on this one. Yes the NS is snappy (mine was running CM7 with netarchy kernel and it flied) but the G2X still felt faster and more responsive overall.
Battery: In my opinion the Nexus S has THE BEST battery life of any smartphone I've ever owned (and I've owned quite a few of the higher end phones). The battery life on the G2X is not bad as I can get through a day on a charge with moderate use. However, with the NS I could EASILY get through a day on a charge with HEAVY use and still have battery life remaining.
Data Speeds: I am in Atlanta and the 4g speeds that I've been experiencing here have been in the 5-10meg range, but mostly around 5-7megs. As for web browsing on the phone, the speed difference from the Nexus S isn't very noticeable. However where the speed difference does show is when streaming video or video chatting when not connected to wifi.
Speakers: I love that the speakers on the G2X are on the bottom of the phone. This means that my phone can be sitting on a soft surface (like a bed) and I can still hear it ring, whereas with my NS when the phone rang and it was face up, it muffled the speaker badly. The speaker volume of the G2X is fantastic, the richness of the sound however is not. The speakers on the G2X are much louder than that of the Nexus S, but the richness and depth of the sound on the NS is better. I wish they could have gotten the sound quality as good as on the Nexus S but still have the volume.
Camera: The camera quality on the G2X is definitely superior to that of the NS, ESPECIALLY the video camera. I compared a video shot with my NS and one shot with my G2x (1080p) and there is no comparison. The G2X wins hands down. Still photos come out clearer and richer on the G2X also.
Misc Features: NS has NFC (which of course is almost useless at this point in time). The NS has hdmi-mirroring (which can come in handy every now and then) and MICRO SD SLOT (the NS was the first smartphone I owned that didn't have an sd card slot..which was quite an adjustment).
Overall: I like the G2X better than the NS, although there are things I do miss about the NS (better battery life and richer sound quality). Overall, the pros far outweigh the cons and thus I am very comfortable with having sold my NS and having replaced it with the g2x. Hopefully this post will help someone who may be on the fence about making the leap.

My main gripe with phone is screen I prefer amoled
I'm all set with constant backlight not to mention the gx2 screen has major backlight bleeding
Ips is one of the flagship panels for computer LCD monitor but IMO still don't compare to OLED
3 Most popular topics over in that forum is
backlight bleeding
Battery
rebooting
I'm waiting for galaxy s 2

Having used both phones side by side and compared the same images right next to each other I have to say that I disagree with you. The only thing that seems to look better on the NS' screen is the blacks. The colors are richer and have a more natural look on the G2X. On top of that the G2X screen is more visible in sunlight than the NS.

My friend has a gx2 actually it's his 5th one with backlight issues. He is sending to LG for repair pretty sad but that seems to be the only way to resolve

I really think the whole "backlight issue" is overblown by a bunch of nitpicky people. Every time a phone comes out, no matter what phone it is, there is always some "issue" that people seem to harp on. I don't have any issues with my backlight at all. As for your friend, perhaps he doesn't realize this but, the backlight will "bleed" with lcd. Look at a solid black screen on an lcd television and you'll see an example of this. If this isn't something he is comfortable with, then he probably shouldn't buy any phones with an lcd screen. I for one don't see this as an issue at all, due to the fact that you really have to go out of your way to notice it. In the meantime I prefer to have the richer and more natural colors.

If you're compairing colors off 2.3.3 kernels without voodoo color. Then yea g2x looks better because Google messed with color profile and looks absolute garbage colors are dull
But in real world u can't compair ips doesn't have an unlimited constrast ratio and true blacks like oled and its a fact the higher the constrast the more vibrant colors are.

I am not comparing lcd and oled. I am comparing the Nexus S and the G2X. LCD vs Oled is a different conversation. This post is simply about how the phones compare to each other in my real world use of them.

lol i said my main gripe is the screen. and you replied bak so that's what our convo is about.
And i know its common in pretty much any LCD for backlight bleed but not to the point is interferes with IQ its especially noticeable in the two top corners and you can see it threw the notification bar...granted not all are like that but allot are including my friends 5 he went threw
now with that said i never said te phone was bad becasue its not and i agree it out performs the NS i just cant stand the screen and sorry but you look at the function 99 percent of the time you use the phone.
If you like it than that's cool you have every right to its great phone

The g2x having only 512mb ram was never an upgrade option for me. Besides I hate how much space was wasted on capacative buttons and will wait for the next nexus device

My friend just picked one up yesterday. The backlight bleeding from the top 2 corners was absolutely terrible. I was very surprised.

I love my g2x....
Backlight bleeding is blown way out of proportion...

i guess the backlight issue is such a big deal when your playing with your phone in the dark amongst other things! .... this phone rocks stop the *****in!

You don't see it as soon as you boot your phone on the top corners? I noticed it in the tmobile store with florescent lighting immediately.
Look at this thread.

It's a shame b/c it washes out colors and really detracts from an otherwise excellent phone.

Love the Tbolt..But..

I love the phone in everyway...but...Im disappointed with the screen. I had a Fascinate before it, and while everything about it sucked, the screen was beautiful! I guess i got spoiled with the amoled. Whats everyone elses opinion here. Im contemplating returning it, hoping the bionic has a better screen.
yeah, the Thunderbolt's screen doesn't even come close to the Fascinate. I had the two side-by-side last night and the difference especially at max brightness was quite noticeable. I also noticed that angry birds isn't as smooth and fluid on the Bolt as the Fascinate but other than that, the Thunderbolt easily outdoes the Fascinate.
I guess the amoled screens are too expensive to manufacture. I will not even consider the stealth from sammy. I have given up with them as a cellphone manufacturer...the fasc is STILL running eclair...A big FAIL on sammies end.
At least we wont get screen burn in's like amoled gets.
i went from an iPhone 4 to an evo, so dropped resoultion going to a bigger screen, and actually thought it looked great, to then this phone, and I have to say, the screen on this phone for me is fantastic. I think it is maybe a little to warm sometimes, as when showing flesh tones, but I would assume that like for the evo, we will be able to change that over time.

no, this happens among all the carriers. Samsung is the slowest cell phone MFG to release updates for their current phone models. Unless the list changed, and I would have to go find it on engadget, HTC was the highest, and above samsung by a good deal.
I know what you mean coming from the Incredible. But I've gotten used to the slcd just don't look at your other for a while. I think its pointless to look for perfection especially on a phone screen. You'd need a color calibrated broadcast monitor for perfection. One thing i noticed is the slcd is much better in direct sunlight. So a little less brightness and clarity keeping in mind I can't really notice at normal viewing distances and the fact that you can see the screen outside seems like an ok trade off. (Yes if you hold it really close to your eyes and study it you can but... Just my thoughts on it.

Went out for a walk yesterday w/the Bolt using Cardio Trainer, my god it was impossible to see the screen in the sun ... didn't feel like trying to tweak settings, make brighter, etc., while I was on the move - but will do so next time before I start the run just in case I want to see where I'm at.
I definitely notice a difference between the AMOLED Incredible (my wife's phone, formerly mine) and the TB. The colors are off - too brilliant in the wrong way. Blues are purplish and Reds are off too. Its even worse when comparing to the iPhone, which is what I have been carrying lately. Not happy with it - the crispness of the iPhone makes this look blown out. As my wife said "It's like the iPhone is HD and the Thunderbolt is SD." The additional real estate is nice, but definitely prefer the Inc AMOLED and the iPhone Retina.
Ooof.
Wonder if Verizon will follow suit with Sprint. An LTE Nexus S would be money.
Its not like its your living room featured TV. You guys must have some superb vision or something, but I am satisfied, but some people you cant just please.

I don't personally do video/photo editing on my phone or watch movies, which is the only reasons I could think of a screen truly mattering. I have the DROID Incredible currently w/ the AMOLED and well generally I can't really tell any functional difference between it and the Thunderbolt screen I played with in a Verizon store after ordering one for myself (arrives tomorrow).
I am a bit of a video/audiophile but only on things like my TV & computer monitors, but can't see why it'd matter for such a small screen either.
Has anyone had any experience w/ the Thunderbolt in direct sunlight? I can't see anything on my Incredible when it's in the sun. I could at least get a vague idea w/ my old iPhone 3G... which I find a more important factor than the color quality/pixel density on a phone.

I get what you are saying, but your cavalier dismissal ignores the fact that other devices exist that have superior quality. Its not like I am wishing for something ideal that isnt possible. One might expect that when paying top dollar for a "flagship" device you would get some good quality hardware. Not saying the device is flawed, just that the screen definitely isnt as good as phones that came a year before it.
As for properly functioning software, I doubt you could argue that this is functioning perfectly - maybe for you it is and maybe my experiences are anecdotal but I and my coworker are experiencing random reboots, problems with calendar sync, and data transfer problems where you have to reboot to resume connection. I will also volunteer that our Verizon rep said she is seeing very high return rates on the Thunderbolt due to software issues. Again, maybe anecdotal and maybe "some people you just can't please" but sometimes good enough isnt enough in the face of alternatives that work better out of the gate.

The amoiled screen has a amazing color saturation; however the low subpixel count makes text look very pixelated. I much prefer the slcd screen for viewing web pages. Makes the small text so much clearer. I had the Nexus S prior to this phone and I think the Thunderbolt is much nicer overall, including the display (for my usage).

The bionic will have a better qhd screen but if it is like the atrix then it I'd using the pentile matrix and will more than likely look even more "fuzzy" than the bolt. Do a Google search for arstechnica pentile matrix they have a great article on it and after using super lcd on my incredible (I had the amoled version as well and the nexus one) I much prefer the super lcd to any amoled with pentile. Plus the bionic won't even have the better colors like amoled. That is a big fail on motorola for making their first qhd screens pentile. I have to believe the screen on the thunderbolt will have to look better.
OK, there is definately major variences between screens on different phones. I just got a replacement for a dead speaker, and well...the screen has much more contrast, and does not wash out much at an angle. Im suprised to see such a difference between the 2.
I actually love this screen. I came from the Nexus One AMOLED screen and I prefer the TBolt. The screen is brighter on the Tbolt and the colors are just ever so slightly less saturated than the AMOLED which is actually a good thing in some cases(movies and skin tones)
I'm with you, I miss the blacks of my amoled dinc.

T-Mobile Optimus G2X Review

Courtesy of Lisa @ Mobile Tech Review

It's a sleeper. Sites that should stick to simply reporting news instead of reviewing made bad remarks about the phone, back around MWC and CTIA.
As for Lisa's review, she knows what she is a credible source of info. When she makes a statement like "dropping her Nexus S over the G2X", there is weight to that statement.
If I were to grade the phone, I would give it a 8.5 which is a whole grade, maybe even more than what I would give to any other current T-Mobile phone.
It seems that she really liked G2X and prefer it more than her nexus S. Good initial review overall, she's a credible and unbiased tech-reviewer so i can take her words
That really is a great review

Sleeper of the year imo. I wonder if it has full hdmi mirroring? Haven't seen it mentioned yet. Not a deal breaker if it doesn't have it. Notice how the g2x ips display outshines sammy's vaunted super amoled screen. Didn't see that coming
Very impressed by LG lately. 1st to market with a dual core phone, also 1st and only to the market with a OMAP4 phone, IPS and HDMI, not encrypting bootloader...
I hope the G2X sells really well, LG deserves Motorola customers to migrate over to LG.

Lisa said in her video review that it does have HDMI mirroring.
Also, surprised the display is better than the Sammys.
Unless you see them in person, you can't really compare them. After all, you are viewing a super amoled screen on a lcd computer moniter. Trust me, I never though super amoled was much of an improvement over the Nexus One's amoled screen, but big difference in person.
It looked to me that the Nexus S didn't have brightness turned up all the way. I'm doubtful that when I compare my Vibrant and G2X side by side in a store (and I will) that the G2X display will be better. Still, I'm highly interested in this phone. Enough to buy it outright, possibly. Just wish I knew if SGSII would be coming to T-Mobile, and when.
I can tell G2x has pretty good screen if it's not better than SGS (including NS).
The phone itself is snappy and the screen has pretty good response.
It has 2GB for applications and 5GB for others (mass storage).

I would be very surprised if the reviewer (Lisa is the site admin/owner) made such a rook mistake in her review. I played with a g2x at my local tmo store that had a g2x demo phone. The display looked excellent even at less than 50% brightness.

the nexus S does look like it's turned down low (for every day use i reckon?); i know i have the o2x down to the lowest possible at night; damn it's bright! I can only compare it to a cm7 loaded dhd and my pref. is almost no light at all at night and if i'd take a screeny now it would show the o2x 10x brighter then the dhd. Doesn't mean they are tuned for the same brightness though
The o2x screen is awesome don't get me wrong

Agreed. To hell with Motorola. It cracks me up how their "high end" phones like the Droid X are terrible performance wise. Every graphics intensive game's reviews are full of complaints by Motorola users that the game simply cannot run. The Atrix on the other hand is very cool; however, the encrypted bootloader and AT&T destroy it
I compared my NS to the G2x yeaterday, Google maps at the same location and both brightnesses turned up to max. The LG screen is more vibrant, crisp and has better colors. But still doesn't beat the blacks of sammys SMOLED screen.

I just got done doing the same thing at a t mobile store by me, and I would have to agree blacks are the only thing the sammy screen does better.
sent from my side of the galaxy....
Is the website down? For some reason I can't get it to open in Chrome. Tried IE9 too.
The G2x screen is definitely better than a SGS and NS. More vibrant, crisp and has more realistic colors. Though i must agree that a superamoled black is still better than IPS's black. What i love about the screen is that it's bright and even under direct sunlight, you can easily see what's on the screen. So if you came from NS or SGS, you won't be feeling that you did some downgrade on the screen department
I stopped by the store for some hands on time with the demo unit. (On a side note, people like the strangest apps. Stuff that was installed on the phone made me go WTF a couple of times) Despite the abuse the phone took, it ran very well.It feels very good in hand and good build quality, no creaking or visible gaps.
As for the screen, the review was dead on, not that I doubted Lisa to begin with. I've been following her work for 3 years now, I would describe her as a real cell phone guru.
The display looks very crisp and colors are very natural.
I fired up this site to get a feel for the display: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2011/02/pakistan_daily_life.html
While AMOLED is still better at displaying black, the IPS takes the cake in every other category.
I would be hard pressed to find a flaw in the way it performs. As for the looks (more so the back of the phone) it's a matter of taste. I would have preferred a flat back with no camera bulge and a less "look at me" metal strip. Ideally the strip should have served as a kick stand since it was already part of the phone.
As for the front of the phone, there is very little one OEM can do when displays take up ~90% of the surface. While I can live with capacitive buttons, call me old fashioned because I am still hoping for a phone with actual buttons. I think a phone with physical buttons could top all else and in the process make distinction to stand out compared to all other slabs on the market.
The O2X has been out for quite some time considering how smartphones age fast, I don't think it's fair to compare it to phones that aren't even out yet.
As a T-Mobile customer, I really appreciate high end phones since they have been very hard to come by.
It definitely deserves to be treated like another Nexus phone with it's minimal deviation from the stock google experience, not just UI but the bootloader aspect as well. The fact that it's HSPA+ capable on all GSM networks in the US is important as well.
After seeing that review, I'm literally salivating. When she hooked up the phone to the TV and played back a 1080p video with no stutter whatsoever to be noted, I was sold. Playing my mobile games on the TV - awesome. But the device was so snappy it was incredible! The only lag I noticed was when NOVA was first starting but I've noticed all Gameloft games seem to take forever and two centuries to load up...
And that screen is just... absolutely incredibly stunning and smooth. Keep in mind that S-AMOLED use the pentile matrix display... essentially cutting your actual resolution in half. This is why S-LCD and other LCD technologies (including IPS) tend to have more readability on the same screen size. HUGE downside for S-AMOLED. There is a marked difference in the pixellation on my S-AMOLED Captivate and my regular old LCD EVO and my S-LCD Inspire. I find it easier to read smaller text on the two LCD devices than the S-AMOLED device and I'm willing to trade that off for less darkness in my blacks.

Returned the G2X , waiting for the HTC Sensation 4G

Usually I am not that cell phone picky , but I never did enjoy this phone.
1. Horrible screen IMO(when compared against the Amoled screens) LCD flashlight corners really bothered me.
2. Form factor : It is too long for the screen size , too much wasted space on the bottom.
3. Power button on top was awkward ( maybe too used to Samsungs)
4. Earpiece quality seemed muffled and too quiet sometimes
5. Picture quality below average
Thats it. Will be going back to either galaxy 4g or Nexus S for now. Looking forward to the HTC Sensation 4G on June 8th or the Galaxy S2 .
I realize that like many things , cell phone preferences are very subjective. If you are enjoying the virtues of this phone( of which there are many) have fun till the next greatest thing
Sad to see you go. Good luck with the sensation, it should be an amazing device.
Sensation is a great device but have fun waiting months for unlocked bootloader, kernels and of course CM7. If ur interested in any of those features, be patient very patient

I believe cyanogen said he was moving away from HTC until they stop locking the bootloader. The sensation may not actually see cm7.
I guess HTC getting too cocky and going the motofail route only time will tell if they made the right decision, but for instance you can see currently the amount of motofail atrix in the market section.

Still deciding my self. I'll probably end up keeping it though. Any minor issues, except for lcd bleed, will most likely be addressed by the devs.
XDA Mobile
I can't fathom why you would return the G2X because of the Sensation. The screen issues will be exactly the same, and everything else will be worse because stock ROMs *always* have bugs. The difference is the G2X is days/weeks away from its being fixed, and the Sensation will be lucky to get updates at all the way HTC is going.
Gudluck with your decision. Your reasons are all minor problems for me. Ive been very happy with G2x and love the fact that the world's greatest android dev, Cyanogen is supporting the phone himself. It only means a clear and brighter feature for G2x. I wont have to worry getting left behind with him supporting G2x.
And gudluck with sensation's poor battery life knowing htc the battery wouldn't even last for half a day.
Compared to the sampled display any phone is gonna look dull even the sensation with the qhd display. Qhd just means more resolution, not better colors or contrast.
I bet the ips panel on the g2x will have better colors than the super LCD on the sensation

Maybe people got so spoiled on the Black blacks and saturated colors on an amoled screen
Cm 7 is good but is not the greatest all is personal preference In the long run. There are also more developers beside cyanogen. That are willing to take on the phone. It's a HTC phone that alone will make tons of developers for sense. Run towards it regardless of the phone locked bootloader.

Yeah, I can see the decision is tough; I opted for the G2x purely for the stock and freedom to truly "own" my phone. If I could find a way to pair my phone with external speakers to hear the ringer through those speakers I would be in "G2x heaven".
Hope your decision works out for ya.
That extra room at he bottom come in handy for otterbox type cases so the phone will be protected more. HTC is known for having huge batterylife issues look up the stats on thunderbolt. One reviewer left the phone alone all day and it still died after 5 hours of NO USE.
I think I can settle for G2x because:
HDMI output: playing games on 42" TV is soooo nice!
easy to root: I can get more control on the phone but the branding is very limited.
"darker" black compared with MT4 (good screen).
money factor (Sensation will be $650 without contract).

Not all HTC devices are bad. The Nexus One had very good battery life, however I agree, the Thunderbolt was awful. Then again that's what happens when you go with a 1400mA battery on 4g. People using the extended battery are seeing much improved battery life.
Take care. Not to be mean but people not a days are to picky about what you get. The G2X is a great phone when you put it next to the Nexus S and the galaxy 4g. My main selling point for the G2X is that its right next to the galaxy 4g in my T-Mobile store. I show ppl how slow the galaxy 4g is compared to the G2X when it comes to normal things.
Have to agree. With Cyan on board for support, the only way the G2x can go is up

I think I will stay with G2x after testing Sensation

I had an opportunity to borrow one from corp store rep.
Unfortunately, I am not impressed with this machine. The screen gets washed out if you watch more than 30 degrees off while G2x doesn't (it gets blue tint though).
The rep told me it gets 24xx on Quadrant, which is about same as my G2x.
Moreover, mine doesn't have much problem, so it may be wise for me to stay with G2x and wait for Samsung Hercules.
The screen size makes me want the sensation. The screen quality keeps me at the g2x
G2x with faux AOSP
Timely thread for me. I'm returning my 2nd one and was really studying that Sensation a little while ago....."Should I cut my losses and get this"? Looks pretty good, it really does, but I'm staying with the G2X.
Hopefully the third one works without the reboots. But it is so nice I think I'd likely try a fourth. This after much thought.
It definately needs replacing.....hell it disconnected w/ black screen WHILE I was talking to the T mobile rep today LOL and while it did not reboot in the night, it did lose the bookmarks.
But my daughters is still running perfectly. Not one problem.
And man, this phone is just like her. When its good, it's very very good, but when it's bad....
I really love this phone.
How often are you getting these reboots? I've had a total of 3 G2X's in my household, and none of them suffer from reboots. I had to replace mine today because of USB issues, but other than that the phones have been great.
1st locked up twice and the flashlight went on (?) and I had to pull the battery. Frankly that wasn't enough to return it but two days later was when they mysteriously disappeared fron the shelves and I had an Ick attack. It was on my 14th day and I exchanged it, just in case.
This one as I said elsewhere has been resetting in the night. Every morning I wake up to the phone wanting my sim password. I accidently activated that and like it. But seeing it tells me it has reset, which I would not notice otherwise I don't think. And I have been interupted three or four times on my calls with the phone shutting off. And it reboots randomly and frequently during the day. This is not good.
The first day (friday) it locked up with a very loud buzzing sound, not like the vibration but a loud buzz. This is my main reason for sending it back. I do believe the reboots issues will be fixed with the update.
In retospect I probably should have kept the first one. It was problem free other than the two incidents.
I really don't know which way to go.I'm a die hard invidia fan and the tegra 2 IMO will outperform the Snapdragon anytime but due to all the build issues with the G2X I just don't know where to look.

the screen part: HTC has long had a problem with screen visibility in direct sunlight, and it seems that issue has continued somewhat with the Sensation. It's definitely a step up, as at medium brightness you can make out what's on the screen, but compare it to the iPhone 4's Retina Display or the Super AMOLED Plus of the Galaxy S2 and it's miles behind. However, the resolution is definitely a step forward, and the sharpness of the text is impressive.

Big toss up. Screen size is very tempting. I loved HTC built devices and the LG kinda let me down with all its kinks, but the support is nice.
I've got a solid G2X, no freezing, rebooting, and minimal screen bleed (after 1 return). The sensation looks like a great phone to me but the size of the G2X is the biggest I'll ever go. And after 2 HTC phones I'll never go back until they replace that damn speaker phone speaker with something you can actually hear.

In all honesty, that second link was mostly garbage. If you're going to compare 3 devices, at least do it in a common and neutral environment. It seems a bit silly to judge text clarity when you're looking at several different examples on different backgrounds and text effects.
Angle of view is also useless after a certain point. If you're viewing your phone at a 20 degree angle, it might be best to worry about untying yourself and getting away from your kidnappers first.
wasnt the screen on this thing supposed to be abit concaved? certainly didnt look that way in them pics on one of them links!

Yet another example of how HTC made such a huge profit. Cheaped out on decent hardware parts.

Yes, or atleast its supposed to sit a bit inside the housing so that when you set it face down it doesn't touch the surface.

I thought the same thing, go look at the specs compared to the G2X
http://androinica.com/2011/04/t-mobile-g2x-vs-htc-sensation/ scroll down a little.
G2X Dimenions
4.90 x 2.50 x 0.40
Sensation Dimenions
4.96 x 2.57 x 0.44
and only weighs .22oz more for the aluminum feeling.
I remember reading people really liked the metal strip the G2X has, that they would avoid putting a cover on it cause it looked so nice!!! I agreed but still bought a case since I'm selling the G2X for this aluminum sexy model called a phone, haha. I just love the feel of HTC phones prefer Sense overall as well... sucks for those with all those issues and still want to keep the G2X I feel bad as I have no issues and am still selling this phone.
Good luck peeps.

Have no issues with my G2X either but I feel the Sensations aluminum body isn't enough of a upgrade over the G2x but I can tell you what is a worthy upgrade. A SGSII variant. It's still the phone to beat and is still called the best Android phone that exists. Engadget even said in the Sensation review that the SGSII was more responsive and had more power. Myriam on Engadget said it wasn't enough to get rid of her SGSII and Sense was holding it down. I think I'll pass since I won't have enough app storage available to even store 2 of my Game Loft games. It's 2011 and HTC is still giving us 1gb of app storsge.

ya I dont want plastic at all... and launcher pro will take care of the sense hogging down if it does slow it down... doubt it will. The Sensations resolution helps with pixels... I've seen a couple captivates, and a vibrants that had weird looks to the text stuff... Sure they are bright and vivid but clarity is awesome...
Besides that Samsung has a well bad rap when it comes to phones, lol... just saying the G2X is awesome but I prefer HTC and Sense.
Let us know how you feel when its not so great in sunlight.
G2x with faux AOSP
remember people
the sensation has most likely been sitting in boxes with those encrypted bootloaders.
and the benchmarks i see do not score 2400 on the sensation.
But it should be a decent phone, also the sensation has the mhl connection not a seperate hdmi and i hear it doesnt come with the cable. and they are hard or imposible to find.
also the mhl standard does allow charging but no hardware out at this time knows that standard so no charging while using hdmi out.
It did take 3 tries but i think i have a good g2x finallly it was dated april 30th for anyone that cares
So i would wait and see whats said once they come out.
Im sure it will be a fine phone but if you are into modding id wait and check out that bootloader first.
Sense ui eats so much ram!

No way would I touch a sensation after I researched it for my buyers remorse period when I bought the G2x. Glad I made the right choice in choosing a phone. I never had a problem with any of my G2x phones. I traded the first one because of the backlight but never had any reboots or issues. The second one is near flawless.
The Sensation looks like a sweet phone and all but it is just to much of a step back in too many departments coming from the G2x.
Less powerful CPU/GPU
1Gb of Storage vs 8Gb
Lower Front Cam Res
MHL HDMI Out - Power
Encrypted Bootloader (which may or may not be unlocked) (HTC said "future phones would be unlocked")
Ram Killer aka Sense
Sure you can opt to run Launcher Pro and not use Sense... but that doesn't mean that Sense just vanishes. All those graphic files have to be stored somewhere. I cooked many Sense roms to know the difference in weight between a Sense and Non-Sense rom.

Prior G2X user/Current Sensation user

I purchased the G2X on opening day only to return 3 of them in the first week due to bugs. On my forth try I received a bug free G2X and at that point it became a good phone. It was extremely fast and it responded instantly to every button press. Coming from a Vibrant, I wasn't to impressed with the display as I found it pretty average. The browser was fast, I got good download speeds and great WiFi speeds. The hardware of the device felt solid and I liked the rubberized back plate which had an aluminum strip that made it look professional. All in all it was one of the best phones I have ever used speed wise. There wasn't really anything to complain about once I got a bug free G2X.
That being said, I purchased a Sensation from Wal-Mart on the 8th of July and had to return it the same day due to it freezing once and rebooting a couple times. I just purchased my second Sensation 2 days ago and have been using it since. In my opinion, I really don't know why people are complaining about the speed of the device. As so as I got it, I turned off all animations within Sense because I really don't care about eye candy. I care more about responsiveness which I'm sure most everyone here can agree. There might be a slight difference in terms of responsiveness leaning in the G2X's favor but lets be honest. It's really not that much of a difference and is only noticeable to us hardcore phone geeks. Everything you do within the Sensation is still instant. On to the browser. I find that the Sensations browser is much faster than the G2X and plays flash content at a higher frame rate. The camera on both devices were about the same as I am no photographer so I really couldn't tell a difference. I have noticed that the Sensation records video's more smoothly and in my opinion they look better as well. So far I have played every game I usually played on the G2X (HomeRun Battle and Angry Birds) and they are just as smooth as I have been used to. I even think they look a little better due to the higher resolution display. Speaking of the display, I think it's phenomenal. The resolution puts more content on the screen which leads to less scrolling, the colors are more vibrant so in my opinion, it's a all around better display. The only area I would say the G2X has the edge is voice quality. The person on the other end sounds a little hallow/tinny if that makes any sense.
By the way, I know I have only used the device for 2 days but I haven't had some of the problems others are having such as the lock screen not recognizing touches, data stalling, dust under the display or yellowish tint on the display.
On a side note, I don't know how many widgets or what you all have installed on your devices to only have 120mb of available memory on a fresh reboot but on my Sensation it is showing 278mb of available memory. I think one of the main reasons why people are seeing lag on these videos is because every single review I have seen, the idiot has every widget and it's mother loaded on all seven home screens. Even though you have the option to add 100 widgets, it doesn't mean it's recommended.
I agree with everything you said. Everyone here keeps complaining about how laggy the phone is but honestly, I'm not seeing it. When it stutters its so minimal that it isn't even noticeable. When I say something is laggy, I mean it looks like the phone is running at 10fps. I've had no issues with lag, and like you said not to do, I have all 7 homescreens filled with apps and widgets. No lag at all.
The G2x feels faster because they made the animation speed super fast. In daily tasks, its no faster than the Sensation.

Wow op It's crazy how our experiences are virtually paralleled.I too came from vibrant,I 1st tried to buy the g2x but returned it after 3 exchanges due you the fact that all 3 had screen bleeding, random reboots and WiFi problems.I then purchased the sensation on the 8th at my local walmart and I'm quite happy with it,I have not experienced any problems at all and the screen is great.

That's pretty funny. I'm glad you didn't exchange your first Sensation like I did or I would have really freaked the hell out. Do you have the same opinion with me about coming from the Vibrant and the display on the G2X not wowing you. I understand the display on the Sensation isn't as vibrant as the Galaxy S series but the colors are still sharp and the resolution more than makes up for it.
