I had an opportunity to borrow one from corp store rep.
Unfortunately, I am not impressed with this machine. The screen gets washed out if you watch more than 30 degrees off while G2x doesn't (it gets blue tint though).
The rep told me it gets 24xx on Quadrant, which is about same as my G2x.
Moreover, mine doesn't have much problem, so it may be wise for me to stay with G2x and wait for Samsung Hercules.
The screen size makes me want the sensation. The screen quality keeps me at the g2x
G2x with faux AOSP
Timely thread for me. I'm returning my 2nd one and was really studying that Sensation a little while ago....."Should I cut my losses and get this"? Looks pretty good, it really does, but I'm staying with the G2X.
Hopefully the third one works without the reboots. But it is so nice I think I'd likely try a fourth. This after much thought.
It definately needs replacing.....hell it disconnected w/ black screen WHILE I was talking to the T mobile rep today LOL and while it did not reboot in the night, it did lose the bookmarks.
But my daughters is still running perfectly. Not one problem.
And man, this phone is just like her. When its good, it's very very good, but when it's bad....
I really love this phone.
How often are you getting these reboots? I've had a total of 3 G2X's in my household, and none of them suffer from reboots. I had to replace mine today because of USB issues, but other than that the phones have been great.
1st locked up twice and the flashlight went on (?) and I had to pull the battery. Frankly that wasn't enough to return it but two days later was when they mysteriously disappeared fron the shelves and I had an Ick attack. It was on my 14th day and I exchanged it, just in case.
This one as I said elsewhere has been resetting in the night. Every morning I wake up to the phone wanting my sim password. I accidently activated that and like it. But seeing it tells me it has reset, which I would not notice otherwise I don't think. And I have been interupted three or four times on my calls with the phone shutting off. And it reboots randomly and frequently during the day. This is not good.
The first day (friday) it locked up with a very loud buzzing sound, not like the vibration but a loud buzz. This is my main reason for sending it back. I do believe the reboots issues will be fixed with the update.
In retospect I probably should have kept the first one. It was problem free other than the two incidents.
I really don't know which way to go.I'm a die hard invidia fan and the tegra 2 IMO will outperform the Snapdragon anytime but due to all the build issues with the G2X I just don't know where to look.

the screen part: HTC has long had a problem with screen visibility in direct sunlight, and it seems that issue has continued somewhat with the Sensation. It's definitely a step up, as at medium brightness you can make out what's on the screen, but compare it to the iPhone 4's Retina Display or the Super AMOLED Plus of the Galaxy S2 and it's miles behind. However, the resolution is definitely a step forward, and the sharpness of the text is impressive.

Big toss up. Screen size is very tempting. I loved HTC built devices and the LG kinda let me down with all its kinks, but the support is nice.
I've got a solid G2X, no freezing, rebooting, and minimal screen bleed (after 1 return). The sensation looks like a great phone to me but the size of the G2X is the biggest I'll ever go. And after 2 HTC phones I'll never go back until they replace that damn speaker phone speaker with something you can actually hear.

In all honesty, that second link was mostly garbage. If you're going to compare 3 devices, at least do it in a common and neutral environment. It seems a bit silly to judge text clarity when you're looking at several different examples on different backgrounds and text effects.
Angle of view is also useless after a certain point. If you're viewing your phone at a 20 degree angle, it might be best to worry about untying yourself and getting away from your kidnappers first.
wasnt the screen on this thing supposed to be abit concaved? certainly didnt look that way in them pics on one of them links!

Yes, or atleast its supposed to sit a bit inside the housing so that when you set it face down it doesn't touch the surface.

I thought the same thing, go look at the specs compared to the G2X
http://androinica.com/2011/04/t-mobile-g2x-vs-htc-sensation/ scroll down a little.
G2X Dimenions
4.90 x 2.50 x 0.40
Sensation Dimenions
4.96 x 2.57 x 0.44
and only weighs .22oz more for the aluminum feeling.
I remember reading people really liked the metal strip the G2X has, that they would avoid putting a cover on it cause it looked so nice!!! I agreed but still bought a case since I'm selling the G2X for this aluminum sexy model called a phone, haha. I just love the feel of HTC phones prefer Sense overall as well... sucks for those with all those issues and still want to keep the G2X I feel bad as I have no issues and am still selling this phone.
Good luck peeps.

Have no issues with my G2X either but I feel the Sensations aluminum body isn't enough of a upgrade over the G2x but I can tell you what is a worthy upgrade. A SGSII variant. It's still the phone to beat and is still called the best Android phone that exists. Engadget even said in the Sensation review that the SGSII was more responsive and had more power. Myriam on Engadget said it wasn't enough to get rid of her SGSII and Sense was holding it down. I think I'll pass since I won't have enough app storage available to even store 2 of my Game Loft games. It's 2011 and HTC is still giving us 1gb of app storsge.

ya I dont want plastic at all... and launcher pro will take care of the sense hogging down if it does slow it down... doubt it will. The Sensations resolution helps with pixels... I've seen a couple captivates, and a vibrants that had weird looks to the text stuff... Sure they are bright and vivid but clarity is awesome...
Besides that Samsung has a well bad rap when it comes to phones, lol... just saying the G2X is awesome but I prefer HTC and Sense.
Let us know how you feel when its not so great in sunlight.
G2x with faux AOSP
remember people
the sensation has most likely been sitting in boxes with those encrypted bootloaders.
and the benchmarks i see do not score 2400 on the sensation.
But it should be a decent phone, also the sensation has the mhl connection not a seperate hdmi and i hear it doesnt come with the cable. and they are hard or imposible to find.
also the mhl standard does allow charging but no hardware out at this time knows that standard so no charging while using hdmi out.
It did take 3 tries but i think i have a good g2x finallly it was dated april 30th for anyone that cares
So i would wait and see whats said once they come out.
Im sure it will be a fine phone but if you are into modding id wait and check out that bootloader first.

No way would I touch a sensation after I researched it for my buyers remorse period when I bought the G2x. Glad I made the right choice in choosing a phone. I never had a problem with any of my G2x phones. I traded the first one because of the backlight but never had any reboots or issues. The second one is near flawless.
The Sensation looks like a sweet phone and all but it is just to much of a step back in too many departments coming from the G2x.
Less powerful CPU/GPU
1Gb of Storage vs 8Gb
Lower Front Cam Res
MHL HDMI Out - Power
Encrypted Bootloader (which may or may not be unlocked) (HTC said "future phones would be unlocked")
Ram Killer aka Sense
Sure you can opt to run Launcher Pro and not use Sense... but that doesn't mean that Sense just vanishes. All those graphic files have to be stored somewhere. I cooked many Sense roms to know the difference in weight between a Sense and Non-Sense rom.

Usually I am not that cell phone picky , but I never did enjoy this phone.
1. Horrible screen IMO(when compared against the Amoled screens) LCD flashlight corners really bothered me.
2. Form factor : It is too long for the screen size , too much wasted space on the bottom.
3. Power button on top was awkward ( maybe too used to Samsungs)
4. Earpiece quality seemed muffled and too quiet sometimes
5. Picture quality below average
Thats it. Will be going back to either galaxy 4g or Nexus S for now. Looking forward to the HTC Sensation 4G on June 8th or the Galaxy S2 .
I realize that like many things , cell phone preferences are very subjective. If you are enjoying the virtues of this phone( of which there are many) have fun till the next greatest thing
Sad to see you go. Good luck with the sensation, it should be an amazing device.
Sensation is a great device but have fun waiting months for unlocked bootloader, kernels and of course CM7. If ur interested in any of those features, be patient very patient

I believe cyanogen said he was moving away from HTC until they stop locking the bootloader. The sensation may not actually see cm7.
I guess HTC getting too cocky and going the motofail route only time will tell if they made the right decision, but for instance you can see currently the amount of motofail atrix in the market section.

Still deciding my self. I'll probably end up keeping it though. Any minor issues, except for lcd bleed, will most likely be addressed by the devs.
XDA Mobile
I can't fathom why you would return the G2X because of the Sensation. The screen issues will be exactly the same, and everything else will be worse because stock ROMs *always* have bugs. The difference is the G2X is days/weeks away from its being fixed, and the Sensation will be lucky to get updates at all the way HTC is going.
Gudluck with your decision. Your reasons are all minor problems for me. Ive been very happy with G2x and love the fact that the world's greatest android dev, Cyanogen is supporting the phone himself. It only means a clear and brighter feature for G2x. I wont have to worry getting left behind with him supporting G2x.
And gudluck with sensation's poor battery life knowing htc the battery wouldn't even last for half a day.
Compared to the sampled display any phone is gonna look dull even the sensation with the qhd display. Qhd just means more resolution, not better colors or contrast.
I bet the ips panel on the g2x will have better colors than the super LCD on the sensation

Maybe people got so spoiled on the Black blacks and saturated colors on an amoled screen
Cm 7 is good but is not the greatest all is personal preference In the long run. There are also more developers beside cyanogen. That are willing to take on the phone. It's a HTC phone that alone will make tons of developers for sense. Run towards it regardless of the phone locked bootloader.

Yeah, I can see the decision is tough; I opted for the G2x purely for the stock and freedom to truly "own" my phone. If I could find a way to pair my phone with external speakers to hear the ringer through those speakers I would be in "G2x heaven".
Hope your decision works out for ya.
That extra room at he bottom come in handy for otterbox type cases so the phone will be protected more. HTC is known for having huge batterylife issues look up the stats on thunderbolt. One reviewer left the phone alone all day and it still died after 5 hours of NO USE.
I think I can settle for G2x because:
HDMI output: playing games on 42" TV is soooo nice!
easy to root: I can get more control on the phone but the branding is very limited.
"darker" black compared with MT4 (good screen).
money factor (Sensation will be $650 without contract).

Not all HTC devices are bad. The Nexus One had very good battery life, however I agree, the Thunderbolt was awful. Then again that's what happens when you go with a 1400mA battery on 4g. People using the extended battery are seeing much improved battery life.
Take care. Not to be mean but people not a days are to picky about what you get. The G2X is a great phone when you put it next to the Nexus S and the galaxy 4g. My main selling point for the G2X is that its right next to the galaxy 4g in my T-Mobile store. I show ppl how slow the galaxy 4g is compared to the G2X when it comes to normal things.
Have to agree. With Cyan on board for support, the only way the G2x can go is up
Was out today and thought I'd stop by and check out the infuse...
I spent about 5 minutes goin over it...
The screen looks awesome....

I messed with one for five minutes as well. Salesman was really hyping it up how it was the best phone on at&t right now. I agree the screen is nice but I still prefer the inspire.
I feel just like that whenever I look at my wife’s Galaxy Captivate’s bright screen, until I try to navigate that damn Touchwiz. Grass will always be greener on the other side when it comes to technical toys. But with all the things I can do with my Inspire 4G, I can do without the faster CPU, front facing camera, and the extra .2 inches of high def screen until next Inspire (something comparable to) comes out.

if we sell enough of them, samsung gives us goodies, we win points that we can redeem for electronics and such...
so you're damn right its the best phone we have at AT&T right now..
(i still use my inspire and i think its way better than both infuse and atrix, much more solid built etc)
but yea.. when the next phone comes out that gives us salesmen something good in return, guess what.. it's gonna be the best phone you can buy for your money!! i guarantee it!! *wink*
The Infuse looks very interesting to me.
I checked out a non-working demo unit at Costco and it's about the same size as the Inspire and the screen was noticeably bigger. Bravo Samsung for coming out with a 4.5" screen phone and using as much real estate on the front of the phone as possible.
The GPS lock problem... hmmm... gee Samsung... haven't you learned?
As far as the UI: Come on... most of us hate TouchWiz. That's a given. Just replace it with LauncherPro or ADWLauncher. I bet half of the Inspire users here don't use Sense (though I do and actually like Sense).
Would I trade in my Inspire for the Infuse (I bought from Costco): No. I'm still pissed off at Samsung over the Captivate GPS issues... but if the Infuse turns out to have 100% working hardware and features as advertised it'd be a step in the right direction winning me back. I would recommend it to non-phone obsessed friends who don't care about quick OS updates.
We'll be hearing about any defects or problems within a week if there are any.
I played with one too. Reminded me of my captivate just bigger. kinda cool, but eh. I still prefer my Inspire!

Samsung's hardware is tempting, but I'll never forget the garbage I (we) went through with the Captivate. Dying earpiece and external speakers (both happened to me on different handsets), sleep death, no GPS, the OTA update that bricked stock phones...all of this and more, and the phone hasn't even been out for a year.
Not only that, but Samsung insulted us by releasing a GPS "fix" app in the market that "restored the GPS to factory settings"...you know, the ones that didn't work in the first place?
I'm not a fanboy and won't spend my money buying products from a company that is all to happy to ass-rape me for giving them business. Apple has the luxury for rabid fanboyism, so no matter what they do, people will still buy their products. Samsung doesn't have that, they just think they do for some reason.
The good side of the Infuse is his unlocked bootloader.
My wife has a Inspire and I have a captivate, I have to say the captivate is really easier to unlock. But I agree with most of you about the captivate, a stock captivate is really not perfect, but I'm running my cappy with Contiuuum 5.4.1 (Android 2.3.3) and I can say bye bye to all the problems, my gps is a dream and my battery time is amazing.
I have a SE Xperia X10 and I'm in the market for a new phone, so I went to my local AT&T store for the Sunday release of the Infuse. I played with it, and with the Inspire, for about an hour.
I came away from the experience thinking my next phone will be an HTC...now if I can only hold out for the upcoming "Holiday." hee hee. Here's why-
1. I have owned Samsungs before, including a brief stint with the Captivate, and I'm unimpressed with the company as far as updates and support.
2. The HTC aluminum unibody case just says "build quality" to me. The infuse felt just like the Captivate in the hand - like flimsy, cheap plastic that should not be used for high-end phones. I know some people want light weight, but come on - few extra grams won't kill ya and it just might save your phone if you're a little rough with it.
3. The Infuse's screen was way too color over-saturated for me. It's bright and clear, but looks surreal to me. I would tire of that in hurry.
4. I could detect no speed or smoothness advantage for the Infuse. Heck, I could load up a custom rom on the Inspire, overclock it conservatively and just beat the snot out of the Infuse... which leads me to....
5. There seems to be a whole lot more developer time and interest in the HTC devices, which means loads more fun for me.
I have both phones with me right now and here are my quick observations between the two phones (Inspire running current version of LeeDroid 2.3.3):
Web browsing: Inspire – Seems to load pages faster and better scrolling.
Camera: Infuse – For some reason the pictures from my Inspire produce a redish look and are too soft, almost out of focus.
Build quality: Inspire – HTC = solid. I don’t notice much difference when carrying them in my pocket as the Infuse is lighter.
Screen: Infuse - However the Inspire is not bad. I could live with both. After looking at the Infuse I do notice a little bit of softness to the Inspire’s text.
Call quality/Handset speaker: Infuse – I have always had an issue with the call quality of HTC devices for my taste. I have to say that the Infuse has one of the best sounding speakers. I would rate it on par with the iPhone 4 or better.
GPS: Infuse – I get a lock in about 10 seconds. Inspire takes about 1 minute with current ROM/Radio.
Battery life: Infuse – But not by much (10 to 15% better).
Speedtests: Infuse – Speed tests seam consistently higher using Speedtest.net (between 4-5 download and 1.5-2 upload).
Battery charging: Inspire – for some reason the Infuse (and most Samsung phones) take forever to fully charge.
Reception: Still need a few more days with the phone but did have an issue with it the very first call. Called AT&T to make a change to my account and dropped the call five times. The lady at AT&T apologized and said that her land line has been dropping a lot of calls lately (WTF?!?!). I should have a conclusion within the next few days.
I’m not going to get into Touchwiz vs. Sense as there are several write-ups on this but based upon the above, I’m leaning towards the Infuse. Call quality is fantastic on my side as well as the other side. I travel a lot so being in airports and cars this is very important for me. The other item is camera quality. Images may be a little oversaturated by they look sharp and I’m no longer to grabbing my wife’s iPhone 4 to take pictures or videos.
Hope this helps anyone looking at both of these devices and let me know if you have any questions.
I may have to reconsider. I spent another day playing with the phones at the ATT shop. I loaded up speedtest on the Inspire, Attrix and Infuse and ran it on each phone about five times. The Infuse consistently beat the others on download and upload. It was close with the Attrix, but the Inspire got its clock cleaned every time.
The screen on the Infuse started to grow on me when I got out of the start screen and its surreal, over the top background and icon colors. When you look at web pages, movies and snapped pictures, it looks amazingly good. The blacks are so very black, even way off axis.
I also played around with the cameras and I have to say that the Infuse is outstanding. Very fast focus and snap and consistently better looking shots...well, could have been the better screen making them appear to be better.
With all the apps coming out now that utilize video chat with the front camera, I don't know if I could go another year or so without one and of course the Infuse has a nice one.
The only down side I had with the Infuse was the build quality. Now that I think about it, it was really the "feel" and the super light weight. Then it dawned on me...duh!...I'm going to put a case on it, so that can be easily corrected.
So now the only thing that I have left to quibble about is the lack of notification lights on the Infuse.....and yet, something tells me that there will be an app or fix that converts some of those other front lights to message notifications. And then of course there's the relative lack of developer input on Samsung devices.
Ok, so do you think I am talking myself into the Infuse?....maybe, just maybe.
Lmao u diss the infuse then come back and suddenly its way better? Little lost in denial

Every Samsung phone I have seen / had my hands on felt poorly made and cheap. Felt like if I touched it the wrong way I would break it! Plus it doesn't have a dual core CPU so I am not seeing the benefit to switching to it and paying $100 more than the Inspire.
Yes indeed. This inspire has fallen off the back of the car and bounced and slid a goodways before realizing that on this narrow road here in mesquite. I picked it up after backtracking and had dust on the screen that's it. And even had it.upstairs and my nephew dropped the phone 1.5 stories and not one crack nor scratch. Btw had a platinum series casing on the whole time.

If I wanted a Captivate, I would buy a Captivate. The Infuse is just a stupid phone in my opinion. It's not bad, I'm sure, but it doesn't make sense to buy one with the Holiday and Ma Bell's version of the Galaxy S II right around the corner.

This is for those on the fence about whether to get this phone or wait for something else, because I was one of those people up until earlier today.
The screen is GORGEOUS! The qHD resolution is heaven-sent.. and I don't even go to church! You will appreciate the extra real estate as soon as you visit any webpage and definitely if you read on the Kindle app. After seeing how amazing this qHD display has proven in only a day's use, I could never see myself going back to a smaller resolution screen.
Videos play flawlessly and the detail is more crystal clear than your eye can see. I really don't know how to better describe it. I am still literally in awe.
The phone's build quality is simply superb. No creaking anywhere.. Anywhere! ..and it doesn't feel as big as you might think. It's about the same size as my MT4G, yet it has a screen half an inch bigger!
The external speaker finally reminds me of the one on the SGS. It's really good. I was pleasantly surprised.
Only place I'm not impressed is with the camera. I just don't see much of a difference, if any at all, between the Sensation's 8mp camera quality and those from the MT4G's 5mp camera :-!
Overall, I am very satisfied. (Coming from a MT4G which was a great phone too).. I am surprised at the people returning it because they felt underwhelmed. What more do you expect from a phone? I say get this phone -- it is the best on the market right now.
Edit- I forgot to mention the wifi-n capability. I get a full wifi signal now where I used to get a weak signal with the MT4G. Whatever it is, it's a welcome addition.
Also pinch to zoom on webpages is smooooooooth
Couldn't agree with you more. I just exchanged my G2X for this today.
It's a fantastic display and for me is much much better for messaging and typing in general as well. The G2X was a beast, but there were so many people with screen bleed, including myself. I thought I could live with it, but it really did wash out the top part of the screen way way too much. I thought about living with that display for 2 years and the decision was easy.....qHD super LCD FTW
Sense is sexy in many ways....laggy in others.
LED notification is great to have again.
But again...you're absolutely right....the display is just gorgeous!
The dust under the screen that some people have is beyond bizzare for a high end device maker. Hope I don't get any. So far, no dust, no dead pixels.
Oh, one more huge thing for me was the fact that this does 1080p @ 30fps as opposed to 24fps on the G2X.
Ohhhh....Ive also found that the Sensation resizes text better than I've ever seen a touchscreen device do with pinch to zoom. Don't know if its Sense or Gingerbread or what, buts its a wonderful web experience on this here beauty.
Love it!
Yea, the text its soo crisp it's crazy! Are you planning on getting a screen protector for yours? It's soo beautiful I would cry if the screen was scathed in any way lol.. I do trust the Gorilla Glass as it held up perfectly when I had the N1 and SGS though.
Also, have you seen any trailers on the HTC Watch app? O... M... G... The quality seems like 1080p video on a LED tv =O I'm still shocked at how clear this display is!
hm.... not really being a$$ or an apple fanboy, but your impression on the qHD screen really makes me wonder about ur opinions towards iphone4's retina resolution.
qHD is definitely nice, but heaven-sent? come on

Man this is a tough choice, both are really good phones. Each have their pros and cons. I do think the screen on the sensation is a little bit nicer but not enough that it makes that much of a difference. I do like the fact that with qhd screen you can see more text. Decisions, decisions...

G2x or sensation
So far so good wit the sensation. No randoom reboots, phone hangs up when press end to end phone calls, no light bleeding issues. These are a few of the issues of the g2x right out of the box. Comparing to the Sensation which is just superb straight out of the box. Good riddance to the g2x which is a close 2nd to the hd2 as the worst phone I have ever owned. These are my opinions. By the way i went through 6 g2x phones and they all had the same problems. Bottom line the phone (sensation) WORKS!!!!

funny how peoples experiences are different... The sensation is awesome, but other than minimal screen bleed the g2x has been awesome, and I had 3 total, all awesome... Again sensation is awesome too, just weird how different our experiences were...
Coming from a Samsung Vibrant, I appreciate the added resolution, awesome build quality, and screen size, but I miss the awesomeness that was the AMOLED screen.
For me it comes down to reliability. The Sensation is way more stable than the G2X. And let's be honest, the update that they are saying is on the way..they are hoping it fixes the problems it has. Let's be real, I'm sure they didn't plan to have the problems they have now, just like they don't plan to have anymore problems after the update. There's no guarantee that the update will fix what ails the G2X. That alone is enough reason for me to stick with the Sensation. I've had the Sensation now for about 8 days now and I have yet to have my phone freeze or crash...same can't be said about the G2X. That makes the decision easy for me.
What really erks me is that we spend, like in my case full price for a device that should be ready or close to ready out of the box to be a functional stable phone. The one thing that g2x owners have in common is that we all returned several g2x's back because they were defective. The bottom line is reliability, which the g2x does not have and thats why I have a sensation.

Yea the retina display is nice.. but it's way too small for my liking.. and yes heaven-sent lol.. It is just soo much easier/ faster to navigate pages and I find myself scrolling a lot less. That was one of the issues I had with things like reading the NYTimes site on previous phones -- too much scrolling.
It may not be an issue for others, but I do a lot of reading and writing papers for school on my phone, on the train, for example. Seeing so much more on the screen without having to scroll definitely makes it easier for me
Btw, I was at a TMobile store minutes after they opened, on the G2X launch date, but I wasn't sold on it mainly because of the hype of the Sensation and the GSII made me want to wait for those instead. So the phone felt underwhelming and I wasn't really blown away by anything it had over my then MT4G, to justify spending $500. I even went back twice, but resisted buying it. I'm so glad I waited for this instead.
What really sold me here over the G2X is the slimness and style of this phone. The Sensation and G2X are about the same size! Yet, the screen on here is about 1/3" bigger and with the better resolution too. I hated all of that that empty space at the bottom of the G2X and how the buttons seem so huge. And after seeing comparison reviews and videos, I held out for this one.
But if you guys prefer the G2X better, I'm not hating. Enjoy it. I just honestly don't see any areas where it has an advantage over this phone.
Couldn't Agree More
Just my two cents (I finally created an XDA profile just to get a post out there about my Sensation experience so far!):
The people on this forum really dampened my expectations on his phone. All the talk about benchmarks, comparisons to the GS2, etc. are quite discouraging to folks on here... Almost to the point where I considered changing carriers or waiting another N months for the next set of phones to come out.
However... I am so happy that I didn't go that route. This may be because I'm coming from a myTouch 3G / HTC Magic that was almost inoperable at the time of my Sensation purchase, but I am extremely impressed with this phone. You really gotta go mess around with one if you're on the fence - the form factor is sooo sleek, the screen beautiful, and the UI seems snappy as hell to me. Being a developer, and concerned with performance, I do hope it's rooted soon, but I'm enjoying Sense 3.0 much more than I expected to.
Cheers!

I can understand what you mean. There are a lot of anal retentive people on this site who have nothing else going on so they nitpick any phone they purchase. I don't understand the logic of a person that looks for problems. For example, I saw a thread on here a few days ago from a person who's thread said something to the effect of, "hey I just got a Sensation..what problems should I look for?" Now when I saw that I'm thinking, why the hell would you be looking for problems? Just use the phone, and if there's a problem you will notice it. I saw another thread yesterday, where the poster was saying that he was concerned about the lens inside of the front-facing not being perfectly centered inside the hole....It's always something with these guys. Try not to let them damper your enthusiasm for any phone because they will if you allow them to. Some of these people on here would find fault if Jesus released a phone...

+10. The nitpicking in this forum is ridiculous. You might assume from reading countless threads that the handset is faulty. Not even close. The G2X complaints were valid, but not with the Sensation. Pick it up and you'll immediately understand why they called it the Sensation. It really is that nice. The build, screen, and all around feel is absolutely stellar. Really couldn't understand the disconnect between these threads and the actual device. Benchmark junkies please help keep these forums clean and move on to a new device.
For those always worried about benchmarks (I don't care about benchmarks), I heard that the benchmark apps aren't updated to read the 2nd core yet (or something like that).
I know another one of these threads but im super torn between the two. I've read through the forums and done my research on both even though the sensation is new and the locked boot loader we don't know its true potential yet
I know the issues with the g2x ie. screen bleed, battery drain, overheating and random freezes. The sensation with the bad angle and high contrast washed out screen, the death grip and some minor touchscreen issues.
I guess what it comes down to is i want a fast phone and the scores show that the g2x is faster but reliability is a key issue with the g2x maybe GB will fix it (hope so) but don't know. With sense vs stock vanilla do you think that’s the reason why the HTC sensation has a low quad score compared to g2x? I know people say it’s the screen size but if they both were running stock do you still think the 1.2ghz snap vs 1ghz tegra would still be in favor of the g2x?
I was leaning towards the g2x just the fact that it has a unlocked boot loader which is definitely a big plus for me because i definitely want to mod the phone. Now that HTC has said they will unlock the boot loader which phone would have the most developers behind it?
Sigh, so torn between the two the lag between apps is a pet peeve of mine and i believe there are currently more developers backing up the tegra nvidia chip so it kind of leans me towards the g2x but the sensation does have a neat screen and really is untapped potential I think.
Let me know what you guys think.. what phone I should go for!!?!
THANKS
P.S. if GB fixed the random reboots and battery issue would u still give it up for the sensation? Seems most people are giving up the g2x for the reliability of the sensation
I'm in the same boat as you. I think the safe thing to do, and what I'm thinking about doing, is waiting for an update for the g2x. If nothing comes out soon, I'll end up getting a nexus or even a mytouch 4g.
Oh, if only people weren't complaining about the g2x, it would be a no-brainer.
I believe that the tegra 2 chipset has new architecture compared to the snapdragon. Also, it seems that game developers are really supporting tegra 2 fully because tegra has their own games store. If gaming on your phone is something that appeals to you, definitely go for the G2x, you will not be disappointed. I recently played Riptide GP, a tegra optimized game and I was blown away to say the least.
I don't really know much about the sensation, but if you do end up buying the G2x, I would suggest buying a used one in excellent condition from ebay, rather than a new one because you never know if it will have problems. I personally bought from gazelle store (30 day return period) and like the description said, it was in excellent condition, not a single scratch and no issues such as battery drain or rebooting.
If you like taking pictures a lot though, I heard that the sensation's "instant capture" is pretty awesome to take quick photos, not that the G2x's camera is slow, just not instant
Just personal taste...
I had the G2X.
As soon as I laid my eyes on the 4.3 qhd display, I was sold.
The amazing thing is that it truly does not feel or look like a 4.3 display. The 16:9 aspect ratio + the thin bevels around the screen make it "seem" smaller.
Truly a fantastic...crisp display. I knew it's what I wanted for the next 2 years of my contract +/-. I don't have the money to buy a new device every 6 months
Also keep in mind the Sensation records audio in STEREO. The G2X and GS2 only record audio in MONO. Something to consider that most people might not think about.
Either way in real world use...it's had to wrong with either one. Just make sure ya get a G2X with no screen bleed and a Sensation with no dust under the sceen...
My G2X had a good battery and didn't reboot a single time in the 2 months I used it. I gave it up for the Sensation because in my OPINION, the Sensation is the all around better phone. If you want a speedy UI, go with the G2X. Some things are faster on the Sensation while others are faster on the G2X. The only game I play (HomeRun Battle 3D) is smoother and looks better on the Sensation.
You have to make up your own mind. My advice would be to use both devices for a couple hours a piece and then make your decision.

QFT about the gaming aspect. I think the Tegra store has some cool games, especially Riptide GP like you mentioned. To the OP. If gaming is important to you then go with the G2X like this guy said.
That being said. The only game I play which is Home Run Battle 3D runs smoother and looks better on the Sensation. I guess it has to do with the game getting along better with the Snapdragon processor over the Tegra processor but I'm not to sure.

I had mentioned in an earlier thread that my son purchased a Sensation on Thursday afternoon. He came to visit today for Fathers Day, so we had the opportunity to have them side by side.
Both phones are pretty. The Sensation is wider and heavier. The Sense overlay is nice to look at and the unlock ring is cute. The Sense worked fairly well after I got used to it. I've always liked my stuff plain, and my son likes to customize to the max.
Performance wise, holding them side by side, the G2x was faster in some things...The Sensation in others. Browsing the web....it was a toss up.
The sound, the Sensation sounded better. Not only did I prefer the HTC ringtones, they just sounded better.
Intangibles....things like practical settings...were almost the same for both devices. G2x had some settings the Sensation did not. Nothing critical though.
Signal strength....side by side, the G2x carried a better 'visual' signal. where is hit 4g, he only had 2g. Switched on WiFi, the Sensation aquired the signal faster, but the G2x appeared to have more bars of strength. Speedtest was relatively the same.
Battery....this is the big one. He walked into the house at 100%. In less than 30 minutes he was looking at 81%. He did NOT have GPS on. But did have LIve Wallpaper. The rest was default actions. During this same period..same amount of browsing, same amount texts, my G2x lost about 5%.
Both phones are nice. Both feel good, both look good. The Sensation is a bit wider and a bit more bulky....but his hands are bigger than mine. In my mind the edge is slightly to the G2x. In his mind its the Sensation. I think the devices are that close. If he wanted to trade with me, neither of us would be disappointed.
I think this battle comes down to how those intangibles work for you. How it balances in your hand, how you view movies or games, or websites. Its that close....so the choice is personal.. Like someone said earlier....get the phone in your hands...they out. Your choice will become evident.
I agree with everything the above poster said. It really comes down to personal preference between the two.
@alodar1...Your son might have a defective battery because even if I am playing HomeRun Battle 3D for 30 minutes straight online against someone in match up mode, my battery doesn't even drain 10%. I thought my battery on my G2X was pretty good but without a doubt, my Sensation lasts a couple hours longer. I would get a easy 12 hours from my G2X on moderate use but I get over 15 hours on my Sensation with moderate use. There's actually quite a few people who own both devices and say they get longer life from the Sensation and here's why. The Sensations CPU can throttle back to one core but the G2X's CPU cannot so it is constantly running 2 cores. That's just wasted power and poor design. Maybe an update can fix it.
Ok... I just sold my G2x for the sensation, and I'm not looking back.
The g2x was nice, then 1 week ago I started getting 3 day reboots , I'm sick of waiting for fixes and gb. Yes the sensation has It's issues but is a better device...
I sold my G2x for 340 just to sell it quick. I then used my upgrade to get the sensation. Spent 268 on sensation, then get a 50$ rebate.. so I made it with like 120$ and a sensation...
Just can't wait for fixes, reboots made me want to leave, everyone going to the sensation made up my mind.... Htc updates ...

bro what happened?? didnt u start the never again lg thread? thought u were fighting for the g2x not leaving it, lol idk whatever makes u happy, so do u like?
Don't do sensation... the internal memory is so small it can never reach it's full potential. With everything on an SD card, you have no hard wired storage. Its like your operating drive in a computer being already full, it slows everything down. I think ill ask for a replacement when Gb comes out if my phone doesn't fully fix itself. I'm afraid of HTC, always seems like a hard case with poor tech inside.

I have zero loyalty to any brand...just came from a BlackBerry 3 weeks ago....which I hated for the last 2 years. It worked as a phone and that was good enough.
I had the G2X for 13 days before I exchanged it for a Sensation.
I'm sooooo happy I made the switch.
I could not live with the screen bleed at the top corners of the G2X.
Then I started looking at the specs that matter to me most.....
The biggest one being the (imo) gorgeous qHD display and far better resolution. There really is no comparison.....the Sensations display is beautiful and I knew its the one I wanted to look at everyday for the next 2 years of my contract. Also it doesn't feel any bigger than the G2X....with its 16:9 aspect ratio and super thin bevels around the display...it doesn't feel or look too big....its just perfect.
What seems to be a sticking point for some people is the internal memory. Personally, I could care less about internal storage as I will never have the need to put hundreds and hundreds of apps on it. I would think that It is a very small % of users who would ever have more than a gig of apps on their device. Right now I have about 30 apps and still have exactly 1 gig of internal mem.
The other really big thing for me wanting to switch was when I discovered that the G2X only records in MONO. The Sensation records audio in STEREO. If having an HD camcorder is at all a selling point for you...you really should consider that.
Also, I guess I'm one of the people that like eye candy and Sense 3.0 is gorgeous and ultra quick enough for me.
That's my humble opinion

I know man. lol I was gonna fight for it, but then I though about the vibrant, and how I just dont want to any more, and not to mention I started to get reboots after a month of perfection and didnt do anything different, any rom.
With the sensation there is no need to fight. It just works.
So, yes the sensation is better, My first one was weird, and I had to return in, had this weird piece of something, like dust, dead pixel line or something. lol I think the rep didnt like me and game me the defective one purposefully, so I went today and exchanged it..
speed, just as fast as g2x, just turn off animations and dump the widgets. The shortcuts in the drop down are nice, the extra stuff on sense is really nice also.
screen, face on the sensation is awesome, slight angle, it gets washed out. I give screen to g2x.
battery: I had good battery on my g2x but the sensation does a lil better.
build: about a tie, but the design of how the back cover is, is awesome IMO. Like taking half the phone apart. lol looks sweet. So Im giving hardware to HTC.
GPS: sensation is fast as ****, g2x would need like 1 min to lock, sensation like 4 seconds. My tracks were dead on. Almost like gps got worse on the g2x.
call quality is a tie: they both sound great.
I dont know what else, that dont sound much, but its just a all around nicer device, I dont want to wait it out for LG to come up with something, when the sensation has it already.
Have a good g2x no issues besides not being able to use cyanogen mod because data doesn't work .
Using gb update zip, very smooth and no issues as of yet. Phone is nice but battery is a killer for me, barley lasting 6 hours , of moderate to heavy use. Tempted to sell and wait for the nexus to come out or an iphone if on tmobile. Have offer of $200 plus a mytouch 4g for the g2x.

I'm trying to decide which mobile to buy and I've narrowed it down to the Sensation and the Galaxy S 2, I've had the HTC Desire which was fine but more recently I've had and returned 3 HTC Incredible S handsets. All 3 suffered with signal drop on the O2 network here at my home (the Desire seemed OK).
After looking through the Sensation forum, I'm getting concerned that HTC may be loosing a grip as far as standards go?
Now that you've owned your Sensation, what do you think? Would you still buy the Sensation if you were once again in the Market for a phone?
Not really
What only makes me ever say I regret buying it is the spec increase only mere months after it's release. I love the phone, a few software problems, but that isn't a deal breaker. I was an early adopter and haven't really had any problems with it. Screen is great, no scratches, feels great in the hand. However between the two I wouldn't know what to pick. I love my Sensation and also want a Galaxy SII. It is really up to which one you can get your hands on. From what I can tell there is a better screen on the SII, but I prefer the resolution on the Sensation. However the Sensations speaker isn't fantastic, but I use headphones anyway so no big deal. Battery isn't too bad on the Sensation. I can easily get a days worth out of it. So to answer your question no I don't really regret the purchase.
I have no regrets. I have had to return two of them but the third one was perfectly fine. I had no problem returning them cause it never costed me a dime and I was never without a phone. If I were in the market today I wouldnt get it though. I would go for the Amaze. Also I am not a fan of Samsungs. They feel too light and cheap for me. I like my phones to feel like a solid piece of hardware and Samsungs just dont.

My Battery life is just fine. Never had dust under my screen. The viewing angles are actually pretty dang good. Bright whites was out to yellowish but all the others hold fine even to extreme angles.
The SAMOLED screen on the TMobile GS2 is bigger but lower resolution causing everything to be really big. Perhaps root will fix that.
I am SERIOUSLY loving InsertCoin 3.2.7 which is a Sense 3.5 rom. The only Rom I've ever tried that was nearly as smooth and fast was an AOSP Rom on my mytouch 4g. It's like buttered silk AND I have 200mb free ram.
My ONLY con now is the app storage or lack therof. Even the low volume speaker was fixed via ROM and Volume+
I don't regret it. Too bad I have to say goodbye though....its a solid device with a lot of ongoing support and tweaks.

My main gripe about the Sensation is Sense 3.0. I've owned a heap of HTC devices and I'm just not sold on the new sense. There's an SGS2 on its way to me right now so I'll offer a more objective opinion when it arrives.
No regrets at all and it continues to rock with the Developers!
no regrets here at all. i have gone through alot of android phones through tmobile. i must admit this has been the best phone i have owned. If i was shopping for a new phone today i would go for the amaze over the sensation only bc of the higher specs. besides that this phone is amazing especially with CM installed. it felt like a brand new toy once i installed it
There is absolutely ZERO reason to get a Sensation right now (or ANY phone really), until the Nexus Prime details are (officially) revealed.
That being said, I also have zero regrets about purchasing the Sensation. It was hands-down *THE* absolute best phone for T-Mobile at the time and I've certainly loved using it for the past 4 months.
Bottom Line: If you're looking to purchase a smart phone in the near future, it would be foolish to not wait until the Nexus Prime is officially revealed. It has the potential to change the Android landscape, and while we don't regret OUR purchase of the Sensation, the Prime might make YOUR purchase an instant-regret. Just wait
I have to say yea i regret purchasing my Sensation. Not because of all the new Phones that are pretty much updated versions of it... but because of all the manufacture defects i've encountered.. such as dust build up around top and wedged in between the front camera that cannot be removed, Also randomly unresponsive screen due to static build up between the battery cover and pin. And the worst, a Screwed up headphone jack that decides to pause/play/skip music as well as make random calls whenever headphones are plugged in. Pisses me off that i need to carry an extra device (ipod) just so i can listen to music..
Im really conflicted as to what to do with my phone or whether i should switch to another device..
Samsung Galaxy S 2 has some great specs but the cheap flimsy plastic is a killer. (former Vibrant owner and hated the cheap toddler toy feel)
The HTC Amaze looks sexy as hell but at it turns out it has the same Battery cover design as the Sensation which will most likely lead back to Dust and unresponsive screen issues..
Hopes the Nexus Prime comes to tmobile and really hopes samsung doesnt screw it up by making it out of plastic so cheap that it makes a McDonald's toy look like a quality build

I'd definitely buy it again - I was also worried because of all the griping on this forum, but my Sensation's been perfect and it's the best HTC phone I've owned. Feels a lot better in the hand than the Galaxy S 2, has a better aspect ratio and (to me) a better, less over-saturated screen.
Plus, Sense 3.0 (with Android Revolution HD) is a dream to use.
I cant tell you how much I regret buying mine. Awesome hardware specs, huge screen, but HORRIBLE build quality and constant ongoing issues. In addition, Sense is just terrible and I do not think I will ever buy another Android phone that isnt bone stock with no carrier modifications. Its honestly not worth the headache waiting around for people to mod a ROM just so it can finally be up to par with a vanilla Nexus type phone IMO.
I bought my Sensation when it first came out in June. I have zero regrets buying it and it has been a great phone to date. I haven't really had any issues, although now I believe I have some dust under the screen. With that said, I still have no issue buying it then as it was the best phone on the market at the time. There is also tons of development for it - which I really like. I was actually looking at giving my wife the Sensation and upgrading to either the GS II or Amaze. I went and checked out both of those phones today and have to say I was underwhelmed. The GS II is big and has a plastic feel to it. I also noticed a lot of lag when scrolling thru the home screens and felt my Sensation (running ARHD ROM) was more responsive. Also, not really a fan of Touch Wiz. The Amaze is nice, and it is very similar to the Sensation. However I am not sure if it will get rooted (quickly) and the amount of development that it will get. Not sure if it's worth the upgrade.
My 02¢....hope it helps.

Absolutely regret it. Sense was nowhere near optimized for the Sensation and it shows in the way that the fastest custom Sense ROMs for us are still a little bit slower than the newest stock HTC devices that run Sense 3.0. I will never buy a LCD screen phone again because it is worthless in the sunlight and is in general washed out in light. The speaker is bad; ROMs or Volume+ apps that barely increase the volume do not fix the fact that it is a hardware problem.
That said, I do enjoy tinkering with and using my Sensation. I still think it is perhaps the most beautiful looking device of the year, I enjoy the fact that we have decent dev support on here, and the screen res is enjoyable. I'm also really waiting to see what this phone can do with ICS and when CM7 comes out of Alpha or whatever (I'm very nitpicky and will only install full on ROMs that only have minor issues). In that sense, I'm enjoying what I can with this phone even though I wish I would have waited for a better one (but heck, I was put in a hard position because I had to get a new phone at the time the Sensation came out and it was the best Tmob phone available). But, if I was in the market for a new phone right now I would absolutely wait for the Nexus Prime. The SGSII seems like a good step up, but I would hesitate to get a phone that isn't a 100% upgrade over the Sensation (some things like the screen res are a step down).
I regret it. If I knew as much about this phone as I know now... I would've keep my Glacier.
Thing is a piece of crap, really. Sure, it has top specs... but software is a mess and build quality is dissapointing. I wanted to love it but I can't. Ready to sell if for whatever I can as soon as next Nexus device drops.
Sorry HTC, you really dropped the ball lately and I'm going to speak with my wallet from now on.
ZERO regrets.
I love this phone.
Amaze might be a slightly better hardware but it's ugly as F to me.
only thing XE offers is the headphones basically. Software we can get, no big.
having said that, if you are in the market now for a new phone I'd say wait til Nexus Prime is officially announced.
we don't know the full details yet but it should be a beast.
