Was out today and thought I'd stop by and check out the infuse...
I spent about 5 minutes goin over it...
The screen looks awesome....
Touchwiz looks cheap...
GPS could not lock on my location..but the Atrix and the Inspire on display had no trouble at all..
I may be a little jealous if the display and battery size of the infuse...otherwise I'm stickin with the inspire...

good there really isn't a plus from other galaxy s phones. Sure there's a better camera, bigger screen, ffc, and a better screen but what's hardware without software?

I messed with one for five minutes as well. Salesman was really hyping it up how it was the best phone on at&t right now. I agree the screen is nice but I still prefer the inspire.
I feel just like that whenever I look at my wife’s Galaxy Captivate’s bright screen, until I try to navigate that damn Touchwiz. Grass will always be greener on the other side when it comes to technical toys. But with all the things I can do with my Inspire 4G, I can do without the faster CPU, front facing camera, and the extra .2 inches of high def screen until next Inspire (something comparable to) comes out.

so you're damn right its the best phone we have at AT&T right now..
(i still use my inspire and i think its way better than both infuse and atrix, much more solid built etc)

I checked out a non-working demo unit at Costco and it's about the same size as the Inspire and the screen was noticeably bigger. Bravo Samsung for coming out with a 4.5" screen phone and using as much real estate on the front of the phone as possible.

As far as the UI: Come on... most of us hate TouchWiz. That's a given. Just replace it with LauncherPro or ADWLauncher. I bet half of the Inspire users here don't use Sense (though I do and actually like Sense).

I love sense, and when I had my captivated, everything about it was HTC. notification bar, battery meter, signal meter, app icons, etc. I wasn't phone obsessed as far as updates until I got into Android. So that may change for them.

Samsung's hardware is tempting, but I'll never forget the garbage I (we) went through with the Captivate. Dying earpiece and external speakers (both happened to me on different handsets), sleep death, no GPS, the OTA update that bricked stock phones...all of this and more, and the phone hasn't even been out for a year.
Not only that, but Samsung insulted us by releasing a GPS "fix" app in the market that "restored the GPS to factory settings"...you know, the ones that didn't work in the first place?
I'm not a fanboy and won't spend my money buying products from a company that is all to happy to ass-rape me for giving them business. Apple has the luxury for rabid fanboyism, so no matter what they do, people will still buy their products. Samsung doesn't have that, they just think they do for some reason.
The good side of the Infuse is his unlocked bootloader.
My wife has a Inspire and I have a captivate, I have to say the captivate is really easier to unlock. But I agree with most of you about the captivate, a stock captivate is really not perfect, but I'm running my cappy with Contiuuum 5.4.1 (Android 2.3.3) and I can say bye bye to all the problems, my gps is a dream and my battery time is amazing.
I have a SE Xperia X10 and I'm in the market for a new phone, so I went to my local AT&T store for the Sunday release of the Infuse. I played with it, and with the Inspire, for about an hour.
I came away from the experience thinking my next phone will be an HTC...now if I can only hold out for the upcoming "Holiday." hee hee. Here's why-
1. I have owned Samsungs before, including a brief stint with the Captivate, and I'm unimpressed with the company as far as updates and support.
2. The HTC aluminum unibody case just says "build quality" to me. The infuse felt just like the Captivate in the hand - like flimsy, cheap plastic that should not be used for high-end phones. I know some people want light weight, but come on - few extra grams won't kill ya and it just might save your phone if you're a little rough with it.
3. The Infuse's screen was way too color over-saturated for me. It's bright and clear, but looks surreal to me. I would tire of that in hurry.
4. I could detect no speed or smoothness advantage for the Infuse. Heck, I could load up a custom rom on the Inspire, overclock it conservatively and just beat the snot out of the Infuse... which leads me to....
5. There seems to be a whole lot more developer time and interest in the HTC devices, which means loads more fun for me.
I have both phones with me right now and here are my quick observations between the two phones (Inspire running current version of LeeDroid 2.3.3):
Web browsing: Inspire – Seems to load pages faster and better scrolling.
Camera: Infuse – For some reason the pictures from my Inspire produce a redish look and are too soft, almost out of focus.
Build quality: Inspire – HTC = solid. I don’t notice much difference when carrying them in my pocket as the Infuse is lighter.
Screen: Infuse - However the Inspire is not bad. I could live with both. After looking at the Infuse I do notice a little bit of softness to the Inspire’s text.
Call quality/Handset speaker: Infuse – I have always had an issue with the call quality of HTC devices for my taste. I have to say that the Infuse has one of the best sounding speakers. I would rate it on par with the iPhone 4 or better.
GPS: Infuse – I get a lock in about 10 seconds. Inspire takes about 1 minute with current ROM/Radio.
Battery life: Infuse – But not by much (10 to 15% better).
Speedtests: Infuse – Speed tests seam consistently higher using Speedtest.net (between 4-5 download and 1.5-2 upload).
Battery charging: Inspire – for some reason the Infuse (and most Samsung phones) take forever to fully charge.
Reception: Still need a few more days with the phone but did have an issue with it the very first call. Called AT&T to make a change to my account and dropped the call five times. The lady at AT&T apologized and said that her land line has been dropping a lot of calls lately (WTF?!?!). I should have a conclusion within the next few days.
I’m not going to get into Touchwiz vs. Sense as there are several write-ups on this but based upon the above, I’m leaning towards the Infuse. Call quality is fantastic on my side as well as the other side. I travel a lot so being in airports and cars this is very important for me. The other item is camera quality. Images may be a little oversaturated by they look sharp and I’m no longer to grabbing my wife’s iPhone 4 to take pictures or videos.
Hope this helps anyone looking at both of these devices and let me know if you have any questions.
I may have to reconsider. I spent another day playing with the phones at the ATT shop. I loaded up speedtest on the Inspire, Attrix and Infuse and ran it on each phone about five times. The Infuse consistently beat the others on download and upload. It was close with the Attrix, but the Inspire got its clock cleaned every time.
The screen on the Infuse started to grow on me when I got out of the start screen and its surreal, over the top background and icon colors. When you look at web pages, movies and snapped pictures, it looks amazingly good. The blacks are so very black, even way off axis.
I also played around with the cameras and I have to say that the Infuse is outstanding. Very fast focus and snap and consistently better looking shots...well, could have been the better screen making them appear to be better.
With all the apps coming out now that utilize video chat with the front camera, I don't know if I could go another year or so without one and of course the Infuse has a nice one.
The only down side I had with the Infuse was the build quality. Now that I think about it, it was really the "feel" and the super light weight. Then it dawned on me...duh!...I'm going to put a case on it, so that can be easily corrected.
So now the only thing that I have left to quibble about is the lack of notification lights on the Infuse.....and yet, something tells me that there will be an app or fix that converts some of those other front lights to message notifications. And then of course there's the relative lack of developer input on Samsung devices.
Ok, so do you think I am talking myself into the Infuse?....maybe, just maybe.

Yes indeed. This inspire has fallen off the back of the car and bounced and slid a goodways before realizing that on this narrow road here in mesquite. I picked it up after backtracking and had dust on the screen that's it. And even had it.upstairs and my nephew dropped the phone 1.5 stories and not one crack nor scratch. Btw had a platinum series casing on the whole time.
NO INSPIRES WERE HURT THRU THESE HORRID TIMES

If I wanted a Captivate, I would buy a Captivate. The Infuse is just a stupid phone in my opinion. It's not bad, I'm sure, but it doesn't make sense to buy one with the Holiday and Ma Bell's version of the Galaxy S II right around the corner.

So I went and played around just for a few min with the captivate, and i was blown away by that screen.. but didnt care much for the app drawer and a few other samsung tweeks.. but it seems most can now be eliminated by CM6 so the question for all of you.. pros and cons of the captivate vs the evo?

Biggest Pro to the captivate is no 4 G up charge also No HTC Sense.
Captivate. My cousin who has the EVO is jealous, especially of the AMOLED screen.
I faced the same decision. I code the captivate. I thought the evo was very un-smooth. Everything seemed jerky. I've read numerous reviews saying the battery will die in less than a day, even if you never turn the screen on. I thought the screen looked very dull, even by lcd standards. I don't know if htc sorted it out yet, but the screen was separating from the body of the phone for just about everyone. If you play games that require quick dragging, the phone has enough touch lag to be very irritating. The phone has dust-under-the screen issues and it's not even from the corner that separates from the body.
The captivate has problems too, but as long as the gps is fixed, I'll be happy with my decision.

Hmmmm on the Captivate forum, you think anyone will recommend the Evo?
Also there is no CM6 for the Captivate right now - someone is working on a Vanilla port, but it is not finished.
Then there is the issue of network coverage - Sprint vs. AT&T and just try taking your Evo outside North America - it won't make phone calls.
HTC doesn't have a great track record for rock solid hardware either.
I wonder if the Galaxy S phones wouldve been more popular (and better for the android brand) if Sammy hadnt actually bothered with touch wiz?

I think im going to go buy the captivate today.. i just wish the usb port were on the bottom so it could have a normal dock...
EVO with everything turned off: 4G, GPS, WiFi, email and other automatic updates,etc. I still got maybe 9 hours before having to recharge. When you work a 12 hour shift as ER Nurse one doesn't have opportunity to be without their drug and medical reference source while it's recharging. I don't sit down much!
Have owned a new HTC WinMo device each of the last five years, but despite quality issues they were the only real game in town. Now they aren't, and like Steve Jobs they better wake their arrogant arses up!
EVO has too many issues: screen delaminates(fixed), LED light bleeding everywhere, bright/hot spots, power buttons commonly crack as well as the protruding camera lens cracks since it takes impacts everytime one places it down on flat surface, etc. and depending on who you speak to at Sprint most consider these abuses and won't warranty them.
I don't want to jinx it, but my 3 week old Captivate's battery life kicks a** and can go 36 hours before absolutely having to recharge, plus main reason why I haven't taken final step to try JH3.
I plug it in everynight though, but aside from the hopefully repairable GPS issue it's awesome.
Updated EVO to Froyo 2.2 and noticed improvements immediately soo I can't wait. I'll miss animated Sense widget cause app version just isn't same though.

I like everything about touch wiz that can't be replaced by launcher pro. I like all the small stuff peppered throughout the os.
touch wiz flat out sucks.........i don't know what gave samsung the idea that it was good.
At least for HTC Sense, it's pretty, good looking, and includes things like the weather clock widget plus full weather animations that stock doesn't have, plus the Sense keyboard is good from what i've heard.
I would take Sense over touch wiz.........but yea anyways, vanilla is still better than any.
As for Cyanogenmod.....it's coming. They said there will be CM on the Galaxy S phone, you can go check out who was put on that job.
Edit: i forgot to answer the thread.........i would get the Captivate. Superior performance, better screen, slim, but less screen real estate. 4 inches IMO is just about the sweetspot for a phone. Hummingbird and PowerVR SGX540 are beast though, they will last you until your upgrade if not longer, Captivate has the best GPU in a mobile phone right now and no other phone has it yet. OMAP doesn't plan on putting it in their phones until their multi-core cpu's come out which is like the end of 2011 from what i've heard.
Go for the Captivate....snapdragon is also slow in 3D apps which means the Evo will be
I actually like the Touchwiz features - the slide to call on the contacts screen, the app drawer, widgets....
The top USB port is so your phone can lay sideways and dock - it slides into a samsung dock with plug on the side.
Some of the down sides are Samsungs email and calendar apps - but this is not really touchwiz fault - but samsung app fault. The lag issues are also not touchwiz, but Samsungs other decisions.
But you are correct in the notion that all can be fixed by a 3rd party or vanilla rom.
If you have that option, why not wait for the Epic?
4G, front facing camera, flash, slide out keyboard, SuperAMOLED screen. I wish I had Sprint. I am very happy with my Captivate though, overall.
Definitely the Galaxy S over the EVO. The EVO screen looks incredibly washed out to me now.
Plus if you're into customizing your phone at all the HTC Sense crap is very unfriendly.

I did. Had the EVO for a month, and returned it. Primary issues
- horrible battery life, even with 4g, wifi etc turned off when not used. Couldn't get past 5PM.
- 4G connectivity is spotty at best. Doesn't work while indoors. Plus, when you have 1 bar of 4G, the phone tries to get the data thru 4G waits for a min or two, before giving up and reconnecting to 3G. All this time, I was waiting for an app to get data.
- Build quality - Light leakage at the bottom of the screen, battery door doesn't line up with the rest of the body, recessed ear piece would collect dust and so on. Expected more from a seasoned player like htc.
I didn't really mind the $10 fee for 4G, because overall Sprint's plan is cheaper than VZ's or ATT's anyway. But, the phone isn't good enough. Of course, people in EVO forums wouldn't agree
They are both great phones. Galaxy is a more powerful phone, so I think it will stay relevant longer. I have a friend with droid x and a acquaintance with evo and both screens just don't compare. Especially the droid, its just, really washed out. I am really happy with the phone, and touchwiz, but this is my first android phone. But I think samsung did an excellent job adding contrast throughout the interface to take advantage of the amoled screen. Like messaging for example. I have excellent battery life and no lag complaints, so I've never bothered with lag fix (and as an adderall fueled college student I think any lag would annoy the hell out of me)

I have a evo and captivate. I have had a really hard time deciding what to keep. If you are a gamer I would say captivate but if gaming on your phone is not a big deal to you then I would go with the evo. They perform pretty close in all aspects but gaming is 2x to 3x better on the captivate. The captivate screen has better colors but has blue tint in whites. You cant tell unless you compare to evo side by side on Google's home page. The Sense vs touchwiz is personal preference. I like touchwiz app menu better then my evo's but sense has better UI and widgets.

If you turn auto sync off and gps off when your not using it, with moderate web use and a god bit of texting I got two days before battery went to red. Very happy.

I would like to thank the devs and all the other helpful people in the captivate forums, tons of information from fixing a broken phone to enhancing it with custom roms or tweaks. I have found almost if not all solutions to every problem I have had with my phone. Decided to upgrade to the htc inspire and it is really freaking sweet. So time to switch to the inspire forums. Btw I checked out the atrix and have commented on it before and it just feels cheap same size screen as cappy but everything on screen looks smaller wasnt impressed with it. anyways been fun.
You mean you switched to a phone that has 2 doors that dont fit on the back and a camera that sticks out and the edges of the aluminum body protrude past the screen?
At least you can fix the software problems with the cappy...LOL just playing....enjoy
yep and like everything about it, nothing about cap i actually liked, was just only decent android phone att had at time. cappy felt like a little girl phone, and hated the plastic and the galaxy s sticking out all rough on the back, oh and the usb slot on top like how much thought was actually put into that? talking on the phone and its sticking out the top? Holding the htc in hand feels like quality and quite pleased with it, yes the battery door is rough to take off first few times but it loosens up, and atleast it has a flash.

I think I'm just about ready to join you.
Having to pay $399 off-contract to get the insipre sux, though. I'll have to sell my captivate, and I'm not sure whether to do it via Craigslist or eBay... just a hassle I wish I didn't have to deal with.
It'd be a lot easier if att would just take this phone back and give me credit towards the inspire, but I ain't gonna hold my breath for that one.

I had captivate for 6 months i only had to pay 300.00 for the inspire with 6 month early upgrade. I put my captivate on craigslist for 175.00 this afternoon and sold it 30 min later, someone contacted me within 5 min of posting it on craigslist. basically it cost me 150.00 out of pocket today to get it and my cappy was 6 months old i think that is minimum for early upgrade not sure but call att store.
Hey I was just kidding. I have been through many phones. Some are better than others. The Captivate is decent, but definitely is not one of the better Android offerings. I was going to buy the atrix, although thats supposed to have a rather dissapointing screen. Oh well.

My early upgrade doesn't come til July, and I'm not gonna wait that long. It's getting harder and harder to hold out with all the happy captivate->inspire defections that are growing by the day ;-)
That's pretty encouraging on the Craigslist thing, I must say. That'll be the way I go, when this swap goes down.

I had my hands on both devices today. I agree about the screen size of the Atrix. It was just too small, and I didnt care for the feel of it either. Now the Inspire on the other hand, was REALLY nice, not to mention, $99.99 with a 2 yr, if I hadn't just done my upgrade on my Captivate. I'd give the Inspire a serious look.
There were a couple things that I think make the Cap a better phone. The Cap has the Hummingbird processor, and comes with double the internal memory the Inspire does. But the Inspire has a 8mp camera with flash. There aren't too many other devices that have that one. THe screen is a little bigger, and it really does feel pretty good, nice solid build

did you happen to also notice a difference in call quality and battery life?
i was thinking of getting the inspire, but decided on the captivate since there were more things one can do on it.
i have to say that both phones look really nice though.
i love the captivate hardware, it's super slim, great screen, fast hummingbird, but the software blows. hopefully we can fix it with aosp builds until my contract is up again.
Only 12gb of storage is a big minus for me. Everything else look good though. I change phones once a year so by the time november rolls around something way better than the cappy and the inspire will be available.

So, hows the volume and signal on the inspire compared to the cappy. I mean does it pull in signal better than the cappy and how is the volume, earpiece and speaker, compare to the cappy ?

I think the Inspire pulls in a better signal than my Captivate (which I sold on Craigslist a week later). Volume, earpiece, and speaker seem the same to me although I'm no audiophile and usually use a my bluetooth headset to talk anyway.
Regardless of how some people feel about SAMOLED screens, I thought the Captivate's screen was awesome. The Inspire's screen is more than adequate and the extra 0.3 inches is quite noticeable. The colors are not as vibrant and rich as the Captivate's but again.. it's very adequate.
There are three other features where the Captivate shines:
1) MKV compatibility: It was nice being able to toss a 720P MKV file of my TV shows onto the phone and play it smoothly without having to waste time re-encoding.
2) 16GB of internal storage: It's nice to have an excess of storage space!
3) TV out even though it's only analog.
The Inspire doesn't have the codec support for MKV files, has 1GB of internal storage accessible to the user, and no TV out. Bummer.
I still like the Inspire more because of the two most important features: Working GPS and that huge 4.3" screen. Seriously... side by side that screen just jumps out.
If memory is your prob just buy more its not that much, everything is more snappy its faster and i have great signal. Love the screen and i love sense ui built in theme support way more widgets and better widgets, htc sense to find your phone from web or ring it or remote wipe or lock is really kool. usb port on bottom as opposed to top on captivate which btw is the most retarded design flaw, who likes a charging cord pullig on top of phone especially car charger with the spiral cord? audio sounds really good to me on it better then on captivate, lets not forge dual led flash for camera, which is also 8mp led blinking notification on front which i loved on droid x but captivate lacked, bigger screen!

I think the Inspire pulls in a better signal than my Captivate (which I sold on Craigslist a week later). Volume, earpiece, and speaker seem the same to me although I'm no audiophile and usually use a my bluetooth headset to talk anyway.
Regardless of how some people feel about SAMOLED screens, I thought the Captivate's screen was awesome. The Inspire's screen is more than adequate and the extra 0.3 inches is quite noticeable. The colors are not as vibrant and rich as the Captivate's but again.. it's very adequate.
There are three other features where the Captivate shines:
1) MKV compatibility: It was nice being able to toss a 720P MKV file of my TV shows onto the phone and play it smoothly without having to waste time re-encoding.
2) 16GB of internal storage: It's nice to have an excess of storage space!
3) TV out even though it's only analog.
The Inspire doesn't have the codec support for MKV files, has 1GB of internal storage accessible to the user, and no TV out. Bummer.
I still like the Inspire more because of the two most important features: Working GPS and that huge 4.3" screen. Seriously... side by side that screen just jumps out.
Mkv doesnt need to be re-encoded, mkv is only a wrapper, use a program called tsmuxer, i can do a 20g mkv in like 2 min its switchs the container file type, like mt2s or other compatiable file types and u can stream whatever to the tv so I got no problems with that.
Btw in 6 months there will be new phones out that are even better u are correct on that and i will be upgrading then aswell if they have a decent one out.
What's this whole gold card stuff? Looks like a monumental task tio root the thing ?

Sold my captivate for 250 on craigslist and bought my Inspire off contract. Definitely the best decision I have made in a long time. I dont find myself missing anything about the captivate. I will always be buying HTC from now even if they dont start pumping out dual core phones. I take software over hardware.
Sold my captivate on ebay for $300 and currently have my wife's listed as well. Bought two new off contract inspire's and have been 100% happier than I ever was with any ROM on the captivate.
2 of my brothers just switched to inspire aswell and love it, captivate was never something that made me like wow i love this phone was just i love android. Now I love the phone like i did my droid x and te stock htc software is kool the way it is. Want root for it but no need to change roms.
I had an opportunity to borrow one from corp store rep.
Unfortunately, I am not impressed with this machine. The screen gets washed out if you watch more than 30 degrees off while G2x doesn't (it gets blue tint though).
The rep told me it gets 24xx on Quadrant, which is about same as my G2x.
Moreover, mine doesn't have much problem, so it may be wise for me to stay with G2x and wait for Samsung Hercules.
The screen size makes me want the sensation. The screen quality keeps me at the g2x

Timely thread for me. I'm returning my 2nd one and was really studying that Sensation a little while ago....."Should I cut my losses and get this"? Looks pretty good, it really does, but I'm staying with the G2X.
Hopefully the third one works without the reboots. But it is so nice I think I'd likely try a fourth. This after much thought.
It definately needs replacing.....hell it disconnected w/ black screen WHILE I was talking to the T mobile rep today LOL and while it did not reboot in the night, it did lose the bookmarks.
But my daughters is still running perfectly. Not one problem.
And man, this phone is just like her. When its good, it's very very good, but when it's bad....

How often are you getting these reboots? I've had a total of 3 G2X's in my household, and none of them suffer from reboots. I had to replace mine today because of USB issues, but other than that the phones have been great.
1st locked up twice and the flashlight went on (?) and I had to pull the battery. Frankly that wasn't enough to return it but two days later was when they mysteriously disappeared fron the shelves and I had an Ick attack. It was on my 14th day and I exchanged it, just in case.
This one as I said elsewhere has been resetting in the night. Every morning I wake up to the phone wanting my sim password. I accidently activated that and like it. But seeing it tells me it has reset, which I would not notice otherwise I don't think. And I have been interupted three or four times on my calls with the phone shutting off. And it reboots randomly and frequently during the day. This is not good.
The first day (friday) it locked up with a very loud buzzing sound, not like the vibration but a loud buzz. This is my main reason for sending it back. I do believe the reboots issues will be fixed with the update.
In retospect I probably should have kept the first one. It was problem free other than the two incidents.
I really don't know which way to go.I'm a die hard invidia fan and the tegra 2 IMO will outperform the Snapdragon anytime but due to all the build issues with the G2X I just don't know where to look.

Big toss up. Screen size is very tempting. I loved HTC built devices and the LG kinda let me down with all its kinks, but the support is nice.
I've got a solid G2X, no freezing, rebooting, and minimal screen bleed (after 1 return). The sensation looks like a great phone to me but the size of the G2X is the biggest I'll ever go. And after 2 HTC phones I'll never go back until they replace that damn speaker phone speaker with something you can actually hear.

In all honesty, that second link was mostly garbage. If you're going to compare 3 devices, at least do it in a common and neutral environment. It seems a bit silly to judge text clarity when you're looking at several different examples on different backgrounds and text effects.
Angle of view is also useless after a certain point. If you're viewing your phone at a 20 degree angle, it might be best to worry about untying yourself and getting away from your kidnappers first.

I just love the feel of HTC phones prefer Sense overall as well... sucks for those with all those issues and still want to keep the G2X I feel bad as I have no issues and am still selling this phone.

Have no issues with my G2X either but I feel the Sensations aluminum body isn't enough of a upgrade over the G2x but I can tell you what is a worthy upgrade. A SGSII variant. It's still the phone to beat and is still called the best Android phone that exists. Engadget even said in the Sensation review that the SGSII was more responsive and had more power. Myriam on Engadget said it wasn't enough to get rid of her SGSII and Sense was holding it down. I think I'll pass since I won't have enough app storage available to even store 2 of my Game Loft games. It's 2011 and HTC is still giving us 1gb of app storsge.

ya I dont want plastic at all... and launcher pro will take care of the sense hogging down if it does slow it down... doubt it will. The Sensations resolution helps with pixels... I've seen a couple captivates, and a vibrants that had weird looks to the text stuff... Sure they are bright and vivid but clarity is awesome...
Besides that Samsung has a well bad rap when it comes to phones, lol... just saying the G2X is awesome but I prefer HTC and Sense.
Let us know how you feel when its not so great in sunlight.

the sensation has most likely been sitting in boxes with those encrypted bootloaders.
and the benchmarks i see do not score 2400 on the sensation.
But it should be a decent phone, also the sensation has the mhl connection not a seperate hdmi and i hear it doesnt come with the cable. and they are hard or imposible to find.
also the mhl standard does allow charging but no hardware out at this time knows that standard so no charging while using hdmi out.
It did take 3 tries but i think i have a good g2x finallly it was dated april 30th for anyone that cares
So i would wait and see whats said once they come out.
Im sure it will be a fine phone but if you are into modding id wait and check out that bootloader first.

No way would I touch a sensation after I researched it for my buyers remorse period when I bought the G2x. Glad I made the right choice in choosing a phone. I never had a problem with any of my G2x phones. I traded the first one because of the backlight but never had any reboots or issues. The second one is near flawless.
The Sensation looks like a sweet phone and all but it is just to much of a step back in too many departments coming from the G2x.

Sure you can opt to run Launcher Pro and not use Sense... but that doesn't mean that Sense just vanishes. All those graphic files have to be stored somewhere. I cooked many Sense roms to know the difference in weight between a Sense and Non-Sense rom.

Engadget just did a great piece on whether dual core is needed for a particular user. If you're a casual user (music browser phone text pics) then a single core phone is fine. Considering the infuse has the same shooter as the s2 and a bigger screen and gb soon, I think it's a better value but depending on the s2 pricing when it's stateside.

The Infuse isn't in the same galaxy as the SGS II.
No matter how you slice it.
I had a dual core phone and I don't see a need for it until ice cream. I'm not a gamer I use my phone for web, email, text, music and Netflix. All of which run flawlessly on my Infuse. I can't see myself going smaller than a 4.5" screen again. The only thing I miss from my G2x is the HDMI mirroring. Granted the development base for the S2 is mind boggling, its not enough to persuade me to switch.

It's an OC Captivate with a bigger screen, slightly better camera/ffc, more RAM and slightly better battery life. Can't forget pretend-4G either.
If Captivate is 1/10, and SGS II is 10/10, then Infuse is at best a 4/10.

which really means what if they are both running googles laggy buggy fractured os and samsungs bad drivers?
yes the gs2 is a remarkable piece of hardware but im not super thrilled about anything right now. maybe i'll get a nexus or an hd2 and put meego on it. forget new hardware and gaming/hd playback. there was nothing wrong with the old hardware, the problems are in the software.

iOS 5 makes it hard to hate on the iPhone anymore.
If Apple would open up just a little, tiny, bit... add Flash, and some other minor things, they could wipe out Android.
One thing is certain, the Nexus Prime better be a home run, or Android/Google is in trouble.
From my experience so far (I have both currently) I really enjoy both phones, but they are completely different. The 4.27 seems like a mile when the 4.5 Infuse is held next to it and since I do photography it's hard for me to put the Infuse down. I get MUCH better service in my area (middle of nowhere) drop fewer calls, people hear me better and I hear them better than the SGSII. I need to really push that because its important to me my Infuse doesn't just get slightly better service I can't convey enough how much better it is. In an area that At&t people do not have service (my captivate had none, my sgsII has none, other phones have none) the Infuse has 1 maybe even 2 bars it may not be 3G but enough to make a pleasantly clear call.
The SGSII is fast when I open up 5 or 6 tabs on dolphin browser with flash involved, switch over to Youtube and watch a video, pull my email and check one or two, shoot someone a text then switch back over to the browser.....but I get this busy on my phone maybe once a month. I then quickly realize what I'm doing is about to require a computer OR that a computer would just make things easier any way at that point.

Infuse has no issues that stand out to me, camera, speed (faster than my modded captivate when I ran Infused 2.0) screen quality colors a little washed I think because of resolution of a larger screen but difference was really negligible, microphone quality, speaker quality (phone and external) very smooth, Touchwiz 3 is boring: Touchwiz 4 would be amazing on a larger screen like the Infuse.
SGSII - Screen at 4.27 seems a mile away from 4.5 - Through daily regular "normal" use I notice NO difference between a dual core and a bump in RAM. Simple use of browser, email, phone, text etc. I see no speed advantage. I do not feel the OS or apps have been fully optimized to take full advantage of both cores. An extra 512mb and you may notice a difference in daily use but otherwise the rest would again be negligible. My microphone suffers from the clarity issue as others, NOT one single person understands a word out of my mouth on the S2 and I have tried every single fix. Because of this I have almost thrown this phone just like my captivate I stop only because I have much more invested and I intend to get my money back. I am quite frankly upset with the overall product. Part of my reason for picking it up was the development and how much it has already got designed for it, but when I have done everything possible to fix it with no luck its a hardware issue and I am not the only one that has suffered this. I do have a pink spot on the camera, this can only be seen on a white wall in the correct light, since I don't photograph white walls in medium light....this doesn't concern me. For the slightly yellow left side of the screen...I have that to - I never noticed it until I read about it. The microphone kills me and highly annoys anyone else on the phone. The screen size & quality of infuse is killer.
Really Kudos to Gtg that he has given Gingerbread to us.

SGSII - Screen at 4.27 seems a mile away from 4.5 - Through daily regular "normal" use I notice NO difference between a dual core and a bump in RAM. Simple use of browser, email, phone, text etc. I see no speed advantage. I do not feel the OS or apps have been fully optimized to take full advantage of both cores. An extra 512mb and you may notice a difference in daily use but otherwise the rest would again be negligible. My microphone suffers from the clarity issue as others, NOT one single person understands a word out of my mouth on the S2 and I have tried every single fix. Because of this I have almost thrown this phone just like my captivate I stop only because I have much more invested and I intend to get my money back. I am quite frankly upset with the overall product. Part of my reason for picking it up was the development and how much it has already got designed for it, but when I have done everything possible to fix it with no luck its a hardware issue and I am not the only one that has suffered this. I do have a pink spot on the camera, this can only be seen on a white wall in the correct light, since I don't photograph white walls in medium light....this doesn't concern me. For the slightly yellow left side of the screen...I have that to - I never noticed it until I read about it. The microphone kills me and highly annoys anyone else on the phone. Search for the other posts on this if you want, but I assure you I will never spend almost $700 on another Samsung phone again that's for certain. I will be keeping my Infuse and enjoying its massive screen with great call quality and reception. Slower or not it's basic phone functionality is still intact for a price that is less than half as much as the SGSII.

After my few hours with Both the US SGS2 and the infuse side by side I can't disagree more...and that is saying much. Previously I honestly thought the differences would be minimal
web Pages and apps just simply load faster, the screen definitely looks better, more vivid and less "breakage" (i guess response is the work I am looking for there)
It seemed much more capable of multitasking in comparison to the infuse. It didn't bog down and lag like my infuse does.
Gps locked immediately..battery life was unchanged during my testing (however this could be misleading..I noticed the stock rom on the infuse drops in 15% increments)
I almost say, yeah, I will be picking one up and rotating our phones down to the kids...but I want to know more about what HTC has planned for release in the coming months...and am curious to know more about the prime that we keep hearing about....though from everything I have been told...Verizon will be getting that one first.
Keep in mind that I will never...and I mean NEVER pay more than $200 for a phone haha.. I purchase every phone we buy on contract for the contract price. So I could definitely say that I would never pay $700 for a phone.
I used my upgrade almost a month ago (coming from an infuse 4g) and initally i was wondering if i did the right thing. The SR is faster, has LTE (i dont live in an LTE area) however adding on another 2 years to my contract seemed questionable for such a small upgrade (at least from the Infuse). Ive been here for 3 weeks now and was thinking (just like some of you are) of switching to the SGS II simply because of the lack of dev support the SR seemes to have. Well 3 days ago i got an SGS II. I used it for about a day,did some tests, and i can now say with confidence that compared the the Skyrocket the SGS II doesnt even feel like it should be a part of the Galaxy family. The problems i had with it.
1. Build quality - The build quality was terrible! the back cover felt like a thin piece of cardboard, the speaker was horrible and it had that same ugly bump at the bottom of the phone my infuse and most other samsung phones have. It felt like if i dropped it that would be it. Not to mention the terrible backlighting of the capcative buttons on the front. The Skyrocket has the LED backlit... SGS II looks yellowish and just plain ugly
2. Network speed - I live in a crappy area. An hour north of fresno CA. With the Skyrocket i get about 3-7MBPS on "4g non LTE". With the SGS II in the same area same bars same everything i only could pull at the most 1-2.5mbps... Terrible!
3. Last years technology! - I purchased my Infuse 4g on launch day. I can honestaly say without a shadow of a doubt the SGS II feels and looks JUST LIKE the Infuse 4g. The only real difference is the Infuse 4g has a single core processor and a slightly larger screen. If im going to be under contract for another two years why would i want the same technology i could have gotten almost a year ago?
All in all NOW i can say im happy with my SR. It may not be a huge upgrade but its a hell of a lot better than the Infuse 4g/SGS II. The SGS II feels like something is missing, as if it were rushed to the market and compared to the Skyrocket is just feels plain slow in every aspect (browsing, gaming, daily tasks,) It felt just like the Infuse 4g!!! I dont look at it as the Galaxy S II. I look at it as a smaller Infuse 4g or a slightly upgraded Infuse. Please if your considering jumping ship make sure your thuroughly spend your time with that phone first. Glad I did.
I beg to differ. There are a few things i dislike about the skyrocket, but they are not enough to send me back the SGS2.
1. The screen is crap. The extra .2" is nice, but the color calibration and the line/blob issue makes everything look terrible. Compare the skyrocket to an SGS2 or an Infuse and you will see exactly what i'm talking about.
2. I'm not a big fan of the rounded corners on the Skyrocket. I wish samsung would had made the phone similar to the infuse with different internals. Also, I wish the battery cover was a textured finish. The smooth finish IMHO feels cheap.
3. Developer support. The sgs2 is virtually the same exact phone as the european version and that means it gets the latest roms quicker. It is something i definitely miss after moving to the skyrocket.
The reason I won't go back to the SGS2 is I want LTE. But I do agree on the buttons on the SGS2. They are yellow and ugly.
Hopefully samsung will fix the skyrocket's screen defects and then I have no reservations in keeping it.
The lines/ blob are only visible on low brightness and on dark grey background. Manually set the brightness and you'll forget is there. There's nothing wrong with the screen is beautiful.

Nice comments... I was wondering if there was support and development of rom, manly to ICS dev to this sgs II lte, because I have the sgs I9000 and there is a lot of support, for example, I am running ICS already.
In resume, SGS II LTE there's a great hardware but poor support, am I correct?
How are your thoughts right now?

This is far from the truth. I was using the same wallpaper on the gs2 as I was on the skyrocket, the chroma ICS wallpaper, and the first thing I noticed when I booted up the skyrocket is how horrible the wallpaper looked. Colors were not blended well and the black parts looked blotchy.
And who wants to keep their brightness up all the time. I like having a battery that lasts all day and to do that I need to keep the brightness down. Regardless the screen quality on the skyrocket is not even close to the skyrocket.
Glad to see I'm not the only one having trouble deciding between these phones. I actually have both, and find myself swapping between the two.
1. I think the GSII is probably the best feeling phone in my hand. love the textured back, perfectly thin. I agree that the rounded corners on the SR piss me off. I've dropped this phone 3 times because it slid out of my carpenter pocket. I have never dropped the GSII in this manner and I attribute it to this design. I also prefer the power button on the GSII (location, click-feel). Petty, I know, but when you can hold and play with both for weeks at a time, you notice these things.
2. Apps. I'm actually liking the stock feel (for now) and noticed that the GSII has better apps. I get a kick out of the Voice Command/Talk App on the GSII (I want to port it over), the movie edit app, little things, ya know?
3. I do love the screen, the extra .2" makes a difference. Colors seems a bit on the washy side, but side to side I believe it is because the SR tends to be brighter than the SGII. i'm sure I could manually adjust it, but then I lose the AutoBrightness, but it still looks gorgeous. I'd give the SGII a 10, and the SR a 9.5, very negligible.
4. LTE, that's it. This is probably the only reason I bought the SR. It was faster, cheaper, and LTE is so close to my market I can smell it.
I don't think I'll ever settle until either LTE is in my market, or the wife steals the GSII from me.

Screen/color calibration has been beaten to death, give it a rest. If you got blobs, take it back and get it replaced. My SGSII had the lines issue, but AT&T was totally understanding when I was able to reproduce the problem. Then I took the leap because most of North Texas AT&T is LTE and went for the Skyrocket. I will NOT go back. The potential of a blisteringly fast phone is much more realistic with this phone, and I can wait for CM9 or MIUI or one of the others to show up to play with. And face it, that is what we are talking about.. PLAYING with the phone.This is my daily phone and I travel all over a four county region repairing computer hardware, and, the GPS in this under 2.3.6 syncs sooo much quicker than any other phones I have used. It just is not a contest PERIOD.
Give the devs a chance, be very nice if you even mention download location and alpha in the same sentence, and, be very grateful when they roll one out. If I had the time, I would love to try my hand at it, but, I really need to get up to speed on the basics first..
Or, if you are still in AT&T buyer's remorse program, you can always swap it for the 4s and a pink rhinestone incrusted case...
BTW: Does anyone really plan to use the phone without some sort of case protection? I just ordered the Otterbox and was told give them about another week and it will be out the door. The iMoshi washable screen protector is great, but, it is not exactly correct, and iMoshi is replacing it for free as soon as the next shipment with correct specs hits.

What is wrong with your Moshi screen protector, do you mean the circles not lining up? How are you getting Moshi to replace it? Did you buy it from their website or the att store? I have heard nothing about this.. lol
I had the Infuse and it frustrated the hell out of me. It seemed like it wanted to be a fast and functional phone, but it faceplanted daily. I moved to the HTC Vivid and I am not at all a Sense friend. It's a fast hone and has great features, but that seems like everything it can offer. I miss the screen on the Samsung phones already. What I really want to know is how well does the SR stand up to everyday use? I use Touchdown all day for work email, text a ton and use GPS daily as well. My kids watch movies on the phone when we travel and love to play games (shoot the apple is the latest.. try it!).
I don't care about a smooth back, it's getting cased. Is the camera as good as ppl say? How about the video? I've seen it skip and look choppy in some reviews when panning as cars drive by. Is it worth the 2yr extension? I've got 21 days left out of my 30 day return policy.
ROM wise, we wil get them, I've learned patience since I had my old Magic
