Does partial root deletes data? - General Questions and Answers

Im thinking on rooting my htc wildfire but i want to back up my app data so here is my question does partial root deletes data? so i can back up with my back up or titanium then do a full root

afaik rooting does not delete any data. you're better off doing a permanent root then backing up your data rather than doing only a temporary root

does afaik works on htc wildfire?
ps. cant seem to find afaik is that an abbreviation?

afaik = as far as i know
and about rooting your phone, heres a guide for your phone (using unrevoked):

[Q] Can anyone be so kindly to help me with my new Nexus S??

wanting to know best way to root and if the superoneclick root that i used on captivates will work with my Nexus S stock gingerbread 2.3.2
Just pick any of the root guide threads in the development section. Essentially they all do the same thing and end up with the same result. The manual (hardest) method takes no longer than 10 minutes even for a beginner.

The last time I noticed someone mention superoneclick around here, they said it didn't work.
Which method you use depends on how long you've had the phone, how much data in applications you have that you don't want to lose (because without root yet, you can't back them up), and whether you want an unlocked bootloader or not.
There's several guides in the development section. The one I posted is abbreviated and relies mostly on the steps from other guides, but it is focused on NOT wiping your phone as the original methods had you do with the fastboot oem unlock command. It doesn't seem to be necessary to do that step.
You can follow just about any of the guides and just skip that oem unlock step if you're worried about not wiping all data (ALL data, including your sdcard pics, music, etc).
Even if you want the bootloader unlocked for some reason, I'd suggest following the non-wipe method to root, then running a backup of your apps' data with Titanium (also copy your sdcard contents to your computer), then you can do the wipe method and restore your backup...now you have a oem unlocked phone and no loss of data.
^^ I agree with the guy above. His thread is easy. First time root and no wipe!
I liked this one the best, includes pictures and all.

[Q] Anyway to use Titanium Backup without root

Hi All
I (stupidly) got overwhelmed the shininess of the new OTA update for my excellent HTC Sensation and went back to S-On to get it. Forgetting that in order to use Titanium Backup (excellent btw) I needed root access to my phone.
Does anyone know a way to restore from titanium without root access?
I freely admit to making a n00b mistake so if it's not possible then it's my own fault.
No, titanium needs root to backup or restore apps.
Now, you can't. If temp-root is available for that update you could just temp-root it to restore your apps, and you wouldn't have to leave the new software.

[Q] Backup apps an keeping data between ROM Flashes

Hi,
Being fairly new to the sensation and with the wide choice of ROMs that have been developed, I am keen to try a few of them out.
However after installing Titanium Backup it says unable to acquire root privileges (this is after flashing ARHD), I was under the impression that ROMs came rooted? This also happened after i had rooted following the guide in the development section. Anyway im back to stock ROM for the moment but i am just wondering how i can back everything up on the stock ROM for when i next decide to flash say InsertCoin or any other ROM?
Thanks
Titanium backup is the way to go. It saves all your data so its like nothing is missing. Try reinstalling it, and make sure you have superuser in your app bin.

Titanium back up keeps your apps and info in the apps... You could also do a Nandroid back up done from the boot menu but i will go back to whatever rom you had at the time of back up and put all the info back where it belongs
Ok thanks, do i need to be rooted or just S-Off to use Titanium Backup? Does it not get removed when you do a super wipe?
Thanks
I thought it was going to be a dumb question if I asked if you had S-off but yes you need S-off cause that I believe is the security to let titanuim back up super user permissions so get the s-off and you should be fine
ok thanks a lot for the help, i shall give it a try!

You can use titanium backup and nandriod to backup your data. You will get updates, but once you updated software from HTC (os) your device will be uprooted and you need to root again .
Post your questions in HTC one X forum to get more response.

I'm trying to recover deleted texts on my HTC and the program I was using said I needed to root the phone but then I hear that will wipe out data making it hard to recover. Help!!! Will that Titanium avoid that? Is it free? This has already cost me almost 200 trying to get messages off phone.

Possible to unroot a CM9 ROM to work with Good?

I'm trying to get Good to work with my phone but the method I used to try an unroot my phone was unsuccessful. I don't mind having it restricted. I need to unroot because Good finds all traces of the rooted files and then flags your account as rooted user, locking you out of the application.
youll have to remove the su and the superuser app. i read in a different forum that it will work to trick Good into working.
