Possible to unroot a CM9 ROM to work with Good? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to get Good to work with my phone but the method I used to try an unroot my phone was unsuccessful. I don't mind having it restricted. I need to unroot because Good finds all traces of the rooted files and then flags your account as rooted user, locking you out of the application.

youll have to remove the su and the superuser app. i read in a different forum that it will work to trick Good into working.

rooting!

just installed gingerbread on my htc desire hd. and now my root has gone. i know VISIONary wont work on this yet so is there any other way to gain root access??
Hard to say. Sometimes official updates are designed by the carrier along with the manufacturer to disable any root access. If it was an update that required a wipe first, then definitely root will be lost.
Sometimes it's better to find a ROM that has a great reputation for frequent updates and stick with them, however, if you've lost root thanks to the latest update then you may be waiting a while for someone to figure out how to root this latest update to your phone unless you made sure to get something on there like RA that will let you wipe the phone and restore from a previous nandroid backup.
Gingerbreak...
hey could u please explain to me how u installed the gingerbread on ur htc desire hd...i have an unrooted one so idk if its possible to install the new gingerbread RUU but my downgrading process keeps failing (CID Error). I've got my phone running on 1.84.720.3...if you could please help me I would really appreciate it.
However, I've read around the forum and people are claiming that you can reroot your phone with Gingerbreak. Im not sure exactly how..im really new to this but im sure you can find out how to use gingerbreak by searching for it...

[Q] Samsung Epic 4G Touch Root Problems! Any Help?

As the title says, I have the Samsung Galaxy SII Sprint's variation. I rooted my phone when it was on the version before Gingerbread EL29. I used the SuperOneClick method to root my phone and after doing that, 'Superuser' was installed on my phone. Everything was going fine until I accidentally updated my phone to Gingerbread 2.3.6 EL29 via Sprint's over-the-air update. I know it sounds dumb from me but I really knew that if I updated my phone I could mess up my root privileges, but that pop up update was showing up each 5 minutes, that in one of them I accidentally pressed 'install'. Now I have tried to unroot my phone with SuperOneClick but 'Superuser' is still there and when I access an app that requires root privileges like 'Wireless Tether' it says that my phone is not rooted. I also tried to do a factory reset and root again with 'SuperOneClick' but it freezes up (I guess it's because 'Superuser' is still there?) I was also thinking on installing a rooted rom but I don't know if I can install custom roms (I don't know if I have CWM and if it will mess up because I'm not rooted?..) Right now I just want to get the latest rooted stable release possible.. Sorry for extending myself but I wanted to give all the important details as possible as I am new in handling root phones and also in this forum. I will appreciate any help, thanks!

[Q] Root, Unroot and Good for Enterprise

I have to run Good for Enterprise for work email. My company has a root restriction in place where I can not use Good if my phone is rooted. The app looks for SU and Superuser.apk. On my old phone (LG Revo) I could root, put a custom ROM on, unroot and then use Good with no problems. When I wanted to change the ROM, I would just reroot the custom ROM and do the whole process over. All the rooting and unrooting was through the ADB shell.
Is this possible to do on the SIII? Or does anyone know of a way to hide root from Good?
Thanks for your help.

I've been struggling with the same issue; I was able to use an app called "OTA RootKKeeper" to protect root and make it appear as if my phone was not rooted. In order to make this work I had to uninstall Good, protect the root (unroot) with the app, and the go through the setup process with Good all over again. I was running CM10 jelly bean for a couple of weeks and using GFE without issue.
In interest of full disclosure I recently had to revert back to the stock ROM and this workaround was not successful. So I'm not sure if the app is checking for only for root access or if they now also look for the superuser.apk as you described.

Should help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040163
My company uses Zenprise which is similiar. It checks for root. I am runnong supersu. I just disable supersu within the app, which removes the binary and essentially unroota the phone.
If I need to do anything that requires roos I simply remove zemprise as a device admin and re-enable supersu.
Hasnt failed me yet.

[Q] Generic steps for un-rooting a custom ROM

Can someone shed some light onto what needs to be done to un-root a custom ROM? Basically I have a crappy old phone which I decided to repurpose for working with an MDM solution my company is using(Citrix Worx Home/Zenprise). I can't use the stock ROM because it's Gingerbread which is not supported by the Citrix app, so I had to flash CM9 on the phone.
The problem is that the app checks for root access. I tried using some tools like "Hide my Root" without success. Even if the SU app is removed, the root detection still triggers.
So I am looking for generic steps of what can be done to remove root access from a ROM which came rooted. Doing a search the only posts I find are more relevant to people who want to return to stock ROM and not unroot a custom ROM. Are there other things that need to be modified besides removing the SuperUser apk?
Try this app..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.universal.unroot
Costs a little but hope it's worth for it
Hit thanks rather than typing it

Caught in Root Limbo with HTC One M7

I attempted to root my phone and thought I'd done it properly, but Root Checker app says root is not properly installed. Also the apps that needed root access still don't have it. HOWEVER, my work e-mail app has been revoked because it detected that my phone is rooted.
SO... I decided to give up on the whole rooting process since I need my work e-mail app. So as I understand I need to flash my phone back to original factory settings using the RUU. During that process, it kept getting hung up with a 155 error and wouldn't let me proceed. Yes, I relocked bootloader.
So it seems I'm not completely rooted and not unrooted and can't make any progress. Can anyone please help me in layman's terms? Please understand I'm a novice so please do easy with the acronyms and stuff. Thanks in advance!
