xda 2 in the loo !!!!! help

Hi all, before you say it, I know, should ahve been more carefull.
Ok, I was talking to a friend whilst peeing ( i know them enough )
The xda2 slipped from under my chin into the loo bowl, I've got it drying out gently on a radiator with a towl inbetween so as not to get to hot.
What do you think the chances areof a recovery ??
P.S i've removed the cover and battery to aid the drying out :?

i would just allow it to dry for as long as it takes... do not attempt to power it up before then as you might short something out. you dropped it in pee? ewww!

Thanks and yeah, i'm the one who's gotta live with it ...lol

if you have warranty, bring it back claiming the device smells awfully!!
no kidding: Let it all dry BEFORE you power anything up!
BTW: because the device has a backup-battery the device might allready be harmed.

TThe ting may well work if you give it long enough to dry out; If it is out of warranty you will be better off to dismantle it and dry the pieces out individually, they will dry out quicker that way.
However; was the water the unit got dupped in clean?? (Pee contains uric acid, which is acidic as the name suggests) if not you are advised to gently clean the cct boards before the copper tracks and solder points start to corrode. The best way I have found of doing this is to use a mild soapy water with a very soft toothbrush (use a neutral soap like dove)
Than make sire all the bits are perfectly dry, i would give them a couple of days if it is in kit form. Put it together and cross your fingers.
Note: the very small surface mounted ic's these days have a tiny airgap behind them, this is very very good at holding water in because of it's small size. Try wrapping each individual piece in a tea towel and whirling it round a couple of times to drive out the excess water...

and use some spray that is meant for circuitry boards or electronic equipment in general. That stuff drives the water right out !

my son he's 2 1/2 years old.
was having a bottle of water in his hand and before i could do anything he just emptyed it on the xda

waited for 45 minutes with fingers crossed and guess what it worked after a few attempts of using the power switch.

Well thanks for the hints, tips and stories, my xda is still under warrenty and i have insurance that covers for accidents, so if worst comes to worst i should get a replacement.

I dropped my jabra in the loo that was full (say no more) and had to wash it in clean water - let it dry out and it still works (this was about 8 months ago and it's still going strong)

Pee contains uric acid, which is acidic as the name suggests)

And the moral of the story is drink 20lt of water a day to make your pee less acidic.

OK, I triedputting the battery in this morning after a night drying out, all i get is the blue light ( wireless ) and bothe the phonelights, red and green at the same time, nothing else works, power, soft reset, hard reset, nothing
I have the unit insured for accidental and theft / loss, will Ibe able to go straight to the o2 shop or will i have to go through a third party ???

My Droid X just fell into a puddle of water

I'm ready to cry because I love this phone so much. It has everything I can ever ask for in a phone and today in fell out of my pocket and into an extremely large puddle of water. The phone itself turns on but unfortunately the screen does not. The buttons light up and I can press the location to unlock it and lock it but can't see sheeeeeet. Please, does anyone know what I can do to remedy this situation. Like I said, I'm ready to cry. It was a gift from my brother and now its broken thanks to my clumsyness.

I have it ina bag of rice at the moment, no sim card due to it being a Verizone branded phone. I am so depressed at this. I mean, it's my baby, my lifeline to the outside world and now this happens!V How long do you sggest that I leave it in the bag of rice? I almost want to throw it pretty hard at the wall and hope it works but I doubt that would resolve any problems and cause only more issues but thank you for the advice and lets keep our fingers crossed. I pray to the phone gods that the screen comes back on. <tear> <tear>

You can buy a replacement screen for your Droid x off eBay for like $25 US. You can also get the digitizer to for about the same price. The screen just hooks up through a ribbon cable. Shouldn't.be to hard to replace. And I've sent an old phone through the wash and as long as it dries out completely you should be fine. But the worst thing you coulda done was turn it on while it was still wet. Water+Electronics=dead electronics

Update though :
Thank goodness I have some good friends who was able to deliver a fresh bag of rice to me while I'm at work. I took the battery out, emptied the rice into a ziplock, sealed it airtight and left it on top of the dryer at my job (I work at a day spa). 1 Hour later, put everything back in and I feel like shedding tears because I am so happy! It works. The rice wa able to absorb the moisture and make everything work like nothing happened at all.
So for future reference if anyone ever has an issue, make sure to use rice(fill the bag up), take the battery out, zip lock it, wait a few hours, and profit!

Another update, it doesn't want to turn on now. This is frustrating. Back to the bag of rice and I'm just going to leave it there overnight and see how that goes.

I've never dropped anything on my phone, I do remember dropping a nokia phone in the pool a few years back. The new phones tend to be more sensitive. I dunno, i'd personally try to dry it out, maybe unscrew the back and put it under a fan, or blower of some sorts. Is your phone under warranty? Dunno if accidental stuff is even claimable under warranty.

After waiting a while, plugging it into the charger without the battery, and then putting battery back in, everything is working fine. No more issues Thank you all. The rice absorbed any moisture so it worked very well,

how do we know theres not gonna be another update? But glad it's working for you, that happened to my moms cell (which was also a Motorola) except it was in the toilet. Bag of rice and a heat lamp absorbed all moisture.

It Lost Its Sesitivity... So I Turned It Off.... Tried Turning It On... And Smh.. It Shows "HTC" Then Goes From White To Black...And Has A Big ASS Screen Bleed Now.. Will Warrenty Cover THis?? Or Is Therte Away Around THis..........????

Might need to replace the digitizer. Try finding out if its covered under the warranty. Don't tell them the truth, just tell them that you woke up after leaving it charged and that when you touch the phone it had restarted and that it was hot and that's what happens.

Agreed. Warranties are for product defects....not owner gray matter defects

Could it be he needs to replace the lcd instead of the digitizer? He said the screen was bleeding.

Can't say I disagree with this but I recommend telling the truth... and that truth is:
1. He turned it on.
2. It doesn't work.
3. Warranty replacement please.

Did I Mention I Put The Hair dryer On High?... Ive Just Seen How The Guys At the Mall That Put The Zagg Protectors they Use Hair Dryers And It Works Fine.. But Yea Its Kinda Dim... i Can Barely See, And For Those Who Have Sensation.. (Im Assuming Everyone.)...Theres 2 White Stickers behind The Phone (the Ones That If You Wet It, It Gets Red) Theres One At The Bottom Right Corner.. And I Think While I Was Putting The Screen Protector I Wet It... Cuz Its Red... Do u Think It'll Mess Up the Warrenty?

Seriously, why on EARTH did you put a hair dryer to your phone... No offence, but it's your own fault. This is why it's so hard to get legit replacements and why insurance costs a fortune.
This is why we can't have nice things!

I've changed many screens and digitisers, I'ts common ground to use a hairdryer to heat the screen to warm up the glue before you pull it apart! Honestly you must have been heating it for a good 10-15 minutes man,Next time do it in 1 min spurts.

Getting the stickers wet is very bad, honestly I think that your chances of getting it RMA'd are pretty slim. You can try replacing the screen if you're handy with that kind of stuff but a new lcd won't be cheap.

Yea if u leave the sticker red they wont replace it. And there are ways to change it back to white, I'm not going to tell u how but if u want to know look it up, reason I'm not telling is cuz how do I no u didn't drop it in water. And about the screen y n the hell would u have it on high? U do no that hairdriers get hot right, and heat can F**k things up right. O n next time heat the screen protector up first (and not while on the phone) then apply it to the screen, and rub the air bubbles out.

This video is for anybody doubting the strength of the S4, saying it poorly designed, and doubting all the stress testing Samsung put into the phone before releasing...well behold, a look in the official Samsung Stress Test Labs:

Dang! Nice how you can see when dropped the "plastic" body everyone *****es about flexes to absorb the impact. And those screen break test had my nerves going a bit i was for sure expecting the screen to crack?

Water + electricity = bad
Impurities in water + water evaporating + micro electronics = broken
Really is that simple. Only way to water proof electronics is with conformal coatings then you induce heat issues and increase the size of the boards. There are water proof (well water resistant really) phones but they usually have a cost, spec and/or size tradeoff.
Seeing the video it looks like the phones will 'work' in a sense but obviously that is
1 a lab
2 not showing how long it will work
Usually the water
1 shorts the battery (not what happened there)
2 evaporates and leaves mineral deposits that shorts internal circuits
Obviously sometimes nothing bad happens. Personally I'll not take my chances lol.

I really do think that these phones are stressed tested pretty good, but I also think the makers of that video might have exaggerated just a bit too. I don't think the water test accurately reflects what would happen IRL to your phone an I wouldn't recommend anyone try it

i'm not too sure how they could of exaggerated the test, its pretty straight forward to me, submerge phone in water for 15 seconds, take it out. There are countless videos on youtube showing water drop tests, they all come to the same conclusion, the phone can survive the drop in water, it might just not survive when the water starts to evaporate and leave residues on the circuit board and hardware.if you leave it like that, if you put it in a bag of rice overnight, you have decent chances of rescuing it

video says that the actual quality\torture test may be different in "real" test environment and this is for commercial purpose only. So try not to believe it 100%. I'd still carry my phone like a baby.

Lol, hence me offering a dollar. I would love to have a "waterproof" phone, but in reality I'm not dealing with freshwater so it would have to hold up to salt. Which is disappointung that nobody has come out with a decent waterproof case for our phones. Instead concentrating on apple. Sigh....

Rescuing a phone or bringing it back to life after it drops into water if proper care is taken is one thing. The phone actually continuing to work while water is in contact with the battery and circuits is something different. Electronics (unless treated with sealant) simply do not work that way.

Please, you,re telling this to a guy that studied electrical engineering for 2 semesters in college. This has nothing to do with shorting out the battery, or components, this has to do with the phone being sealed in a proper way so this DOESN'T happen. Thats the point of the test. Plus, water is a TERRIBLE conductor of electricity, only the minerals in water make it conductive. This test was probably done in distilled water which has ZERO conductivity, so it could pretty much stay in water for minutes without shorting out the phone. Somebody in detroit, and somebody in California would not have the same chances of saving their phone if dropped, one has fresh water and the other salt water, and salt water is a good conductor

I'm not sure if you are just trying to argue for the sake of arguing but I clearly said I think the test might have been exaggerated. Your response was that you didn't think it was (your first bolded quote) and then you turn around and say it might have been (your second bolded quote where you said it might have been distilled water instead of regular water)? Using a non-common type of water sure looks like they might be exaggerating real life outcomes to me (as I said in my first bolded quote).

My buddy drop tested my phone at the bar the other night. 5 drops at about 4 feet high face down. Not a scratch or crack on the screen. Only thing was the bezel on the corner is a little bent when it didn't fall flat on its face one drop. No case or screen protector. This thing is a tank

Haha I work for best buy so I have our geek squad protection. Being that the phone is so new I wouldn't get a refurb if it broke. I won't have the phone long enough to care about having a refurb if that happens anyway haha

i'm pretty sure this video was done weeks if not months before the s4 came out. Thats the whole point of stress testing.

Do you get it yet? They are eliminating variables like conductivity to see how well the phone hold up against infiltration. If the phone holds up well against that, it doesn't matter if its dropped in a base solution or in acid.

I don't know about you guys, but all my toilets are filled strictly with distilled water.
Samsung has more money invested in phone dropping contraptions than every house on my block is worth.

It says nothing about using any kind of special water for that test. And I am still calling Bul***t! How about filming yourself dunking your phone into regular tap water for the exact amount of time that was done in that video and let's see the results? There is a thread about a guy that dropped his in water for a moment and he had to dry it out in rice for over 48+ hours before it worked properly again...

That is a real world result! And he was lucky it came back to life AFTER drying it out.

S7 The back glass is poorly adhered and is lifting on one side. Do i have a fix?

I purchased my phone through duty free, unlocked so after checking with local Samsung repair center they told me my warranty is not applicable in the country i live in, because i purchased the phone in duty free. This is not an official Samsung repair center, just a random one authorized by Samsung btw.
Either way, the issue is that the back glass is slightly lifting on one side/ corner. The top right corner (Next to the heart rate sensor) is slightly unstuck from the body, and it creates a tiny little gap, which ends up running down the side of the phone a little.
I have tried finding a solution and no luck. What i want to know is, if i take a heat gun, and give the back glass a blast under the heat gun in order to warm up the glue, and then apply some pressure evenly across the back glass, will that do the trick? Is it even safe to do so ?

It should be safe to do as long as you don't heat it up too much as to cause the internals of the phone to get over-stressed. I would power down your phone and make sure it is cooled before starting the process. You don't want it turned on and then your phone decide that it wants to update 20 apps and cause it to heat up any more than it already is.
Also, be gentle with applying pressure to the glass, if you happened to have dropped it and warped the frame that would explain why the glass is lifting up, and if you press too hard it may break it. Just be careful and you should be fine. It's not a guaranteed fix but it's a safe method to try out.
If you need help on using the heat gun just look online for videos of repairing phone screens, plenty of them use heat guns to get the adhesive loosened up and almost always state what temperature to set it to. I feel like it was around 700°F (370°C) last I looked, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I will try give it a shot over the weekend. The phone is in perfect conditions and has never been dropped. In fact when i press down on the glass, it kinda slots back into place, but then sticks back out, so i'm assuming its un-even adhesive or whatever the case is with it. In reality its such an un-noticeable issue, but you know how it is... once you know its there, that's the only thing you notice
I wonder if anyone else had this issue because i found a YouTuber who actually also had his back glass un-stick from the body

Sorry to hear about your luck. I would think it goes without saying, but it will probably no longer be waterproof.

From my experience doing so does not work. You need to replace the adhesive which is easy to do, what is more difficult is sourcing an OEM one
