I'm ready to cry because I love this phone so much. It has everything I can ever ask for in a phone and today in fell out of my pocket and into an extremely large puddle of water. The phone itself turns on but unfortunately the screen does not. The buttons light up and I can press the location to unlock it and lock it but can't see sheeeeeet. Please, does anyone know what I can do to remedy this situation. Like I said, I'm ready to cry. It was a gift from my brother and now its broken thanks to my clumsyness.

I have it ina bag of rice at the moment, no sim card due to it being a Verizone branded phone. I am so depressed at this. I mean, it's my baby, my lifeline to the outside world and now this happens!V How long do you sggest that I leave it in the bag of rice? I almost want to throw it pretty hard at the wall and hope it works but I doubt that would resolve any problems and cause only more issues but thank you for the advice and lets keep our fingers crossed. You can buy a replacement screen for your Droid x off eBay for like $25 US. You can also get the digitizer to for about the same price. The screen just hooks up through a ribbon cable. Shouldn't.be to hard to replace. And I've sent an old phone through the wash and as long as it dries out completely you should be fine. But the worst thing you coulda done was turn it on while it was still wet. Water+Electronics=dead electronics

Update though :
Thank goodness I have some good friends who was able to deliver a fresh bag of rice to me while I'm at work. I took the battery out, emptied the rice into a ziplock, sealed it airtight and left it on top of the dryer at my job (I work at a day spa). 1 Hour later, put everything back in and I feel like shedding tears because I am so happy! It works. The rice wa able to absorb the moisture and make everything work like nothing happened at all.
So for future reference if anyone ever has an issue, make sure to use rice(fill the bag up), take the battery out, zip lock it, wait a few hours, and profit!

Another update, it doesn't want to turn on now. This is frustrating. Back to the bag of rice and I'm just going to leave it there overnight and see how that goes.

I've never dropped anything on my phone, I do remember dropping a nokia phone in the pool a few years back. The new phones tend to be more sensitive. I dunno, i'd personally try to dry it out, maybe unscrew the back and put it under a fan, or blower of some sorts. Is your phone under warranty? Dunno if accidental stuff is even claimable under warranty.
After waiting a while, plugging it into the charger without the battery, and then putting battery back in, everything is working fine. No more issues Thank you all. The rice absorbed any moisture so it worked very well,
how do we know theres not gonna be another update? But glad it's working for you, that happened to my moms cell (which was also a Motorola) except it was in the toilet. Bag of rice and a heat lamp absorbed all moisture.

I will buy a Tilt from a friend...where the phone fell inside a bucket of water..and now it doesnt work..im thinking of..buying it for 70 bucks..cuz i also have TyTN II...and my LCD Cracked..and im thinking of jus replacing mines withs his LCD since its still is good. I dropped my Wizard in a bucket of water once, it was fully submerged! What I did was took all of the removable parts off (battery cover, battery etc.), slid the screen open and left it close to a radiator for about a week.
Turned it on after a week and it ran fine, the only problem I had was months later the screen occasionally fades away, but from what I understand that is not uncommen on a Wizard and is fixable. So all in all I wouldnt be surprised if you could get it working!

post caught my eye just figure id leave something that i have personally tried (and worked).I have a WING dropped it in the sink fully submerged, thought it was no good either...Took some advice of buying reg grain rice (non cooked of course) and completely burying or covering the entire device in a jug or bowl with the rice...leave for a couple days and the rice obsorbs all the fluid...worked like nothing ever happened...good luck

Only advice I can go with is if it was on when it fell into the water id say no, if it was off when it wen't into the water id still say no, cheers
2 years ago, my Wizard felt in the WC during 3 seconds maybe.
Then, I opened it, and I let it 3 days in rice. It's still running like a charm.
But if your bro's Tilt doesnt work anymore, I don't think his LCD is ok, I think it's the first thing that bricks.
Offer to take it off his hands, but don't pay him unless it works to replace your screen, make sure you agree on this, don't just stiff him.
This is not that complicated of a problem.

rice is a phone saver.
immediately pull the battery, let it sit in a tub of rice for a couple days. put in a new batt or try the old one if its been dried and it should work.

So already pushed in the pool with my brand new infuse... Hopefully all of the tricks in the book will work, but any other advice?
I have had luck with pulling all removable pieces and laying it on the dash of my car for a few hours. Keep in mind not to put it in direct sunlight. I used a newspaper to cover it. You just want the heat factor to evaporate any moisture. Hope this helps.

pull battery and if you can dis assemble the phone (it's pretty strait forward, 6 screws then you prey the back off, it's a tight fit but you wont break it)
put parts in a bag of rice.
Right now I've got it in a bag of rice and without the battery/back cover but I left the screws on. I'm gonna leave it there for a day or so and then try tomorrow. I'll just pop the SIM in my iPhone. Wow going back to the 3GS is a super big drag. The screen is horrendous.

yeah vga resolution is pretty bad, plus it is soo small.
the disassembly is really optional, but is preferable if you are comfortable with it.

You get a container filled it with rice and put the Infuse inside like in the middle cover it fully. May sound funny but this thing works. Rice actually suck all the water on any devices. This happen to my iPod twice. I left it inside my pant and wash it in the washing machine, I did this and it fix it twice. No kidding. Live it there for 1day, long wait

The phone is fine now, except it has water trapped inside of both camera lenses. Is there a fix for this?
i would imagine you need to disassemble the phone. im sure the water is under the protective lens and the sensors are fine.
okay, i soaked my phone in isopropyl alcohol, then placed it into damprid (a descant, like rice) for almost 52 hours now, the phone functions properly, my speaker will not work, and there is water between my digitizer and lcd.
I am going to place it back in the descant for now, but ive seen no improvement in the amount of liquid between the digitizer and lcd as of yet so it's doubtful i will.
I would like to take my digitizer off and attempt to remove the excess water. ideas? I do have alot of experience in working on small electronics (i fix computers and small electronics for a living), ie. ipods, other phones. just not the thunderbolt, any ideas suggestions? links to a good tear down procedure?

Word of advice...keep it powered off till the liquid is removed, it may screw your digitizer ribbon up or worse.

I would recomend making sure that you have removed all of the water before putting the battery back in your Thunderbolt. Water conducts electricity and you can fry some of your components.
I would try putting it in the oven for a bit on warm, it might help dry it out.
When my wife washed my flip phone years back, it had water under the screen for a couple of months before it finally all dried out.

This can work but be real careful or you'll melt it. I say warm it up and shut it down and then place it in. It should help remove that trapped water

I think my oven on warm is between 125-150 degrees, cool enough that I can take a plate out without mitts.

If its your job you should know better than to use isopropyl alcohol, it leaves noticeable residue, go get some denatured alcohol and take the thing apart.

That's what I would do. You can buy a new screen for cheap, the digitizer costs a little more but if you don't have insurance (like me) it would not be a bad idea.

Rice. Wife dropped her BB in the pool last year and we where able to save the phone for another month (and get her data off) by placing it in a bag of white rice for a few days. That stuff sucked all the moisture right out of the phone.
We did find random rice pieces for a while falling out of the phone after it started working though! lol
Rice will do the trick.
Hubby left his Droid Eris in his pocket, so when his pants went into the washer, so did the phone, for a full cycle.
When I transferred the clothes into the dryer I hear a suspicious clink clank...
Took the phone apart, stuck it in rice. After a few days I tried powering it up with the original battery and no dice, so I tried a different battery and voila!
There were some water spots under the screen, but they eventually went away and you can't tell anymore what it went through at all.
The original battery actually started to work again as well, just needed a little longer in the rice and hubby has been using it with the phone since then. All this happened in March or April 2010, can't remember exactly.
Our phones are pretty tough little devices. I have been trying to get hubby to upgrade, but he is stubborn and won't part with his phone lol!
If you do get the liquid out of the screen, please repost and let us know how you did it.

I was at work playing a mkv file in my car then I cool myself off by dripping water on me and I accidentally drip a little bit on the screen I suddenly notice my screen lowering the volume by itself and I quickly dried it off. Afterwards, I notice the screen brightest on the left side (facing up) started flickering I immediately knew there was going to be serious issues. I turned off the phone, checked the casing for any drippings and found no water drips inside the casing. I turned on the phone to find a quick pixelated screen for a quick season then booted to the HTC theme..
The phone booted to the home screen that's when the screen started to flicker similar to a computer's VGA, DVI or HDMI cable is loose in the back every pixel color on the screen starts flashing in colors. The screen turned pink then stopped working..
Here's the good news: I'm covered with tmobiles premium insurance and HTC's insurance...
Here's the bad news: I s-off, rooted and flashed a rom 12hrs ago..
Technically speaking, I'm screwed because I can't get the screen to function to revert back the changes and Idk what to do.. If you've any thoughts or ideas to help me fix this issue please I'll gladly appreciate.
There is 2 real options.
One is repair the screen all though somehow I don't think the water has caused the problem, modern mobile devices can usually withstand a small amount of water including light rain and maybe a light splash of liquid. They are all tested for this kind of thing. It sounds like something physical as I'm fairly sure it wont be the ROM to blame, so by this you should be able to claim on the insurance as its a physical defect and would of happened regardless of flashing etc. I can't be sure how successful you'll be with this though, its probably best to go to the HTC insurance for this as tmobile with blow it off as quick as possible.
The other option is not advised and is classed as insurance fraud which is highly illegal there for won't be putting it down in writing due to not wanting to upset the admins, mods and rules of the forum. But I'm sure you all know what the procedure is.

After fully inspecting the case and the phone itself.. I just realized the little drip of water could've made its way inside the phone small gap after noticing something white stuck in there..
I gotta have the idea that if the screen doesn't work then they can't see what's inside it right? lol.. I'm going to discharge the phone and let it dry then pray it works so I can revert the changes then make a claim.

Check your insurance policy, accidental damage might be covered. Surely they can't make all claims void if the device software has been modified. In my eyes HTC actively encourages it.

HTC won't blow me off despite it being rooted and having a different rom? I know tmobile would blow me off if they found out I rooted the damn thing.. Maybe idk honestly.. I could smash it to pieces and say I dropped in a 3 story building still be covered (I asked this question before purchasing the insurance haha)..

The best option is probably let the device dry off. Reboot it in a few hours, assess the damage if any, if its fixable or fine go for that, if its beyond fixing then take it as far as you see fit mate
Try drying your phone out on a windowsill or somewhere else warm, with the back case off and the battery out for a few hours, then give the phone a try again.
If that doesnt work then I suggest following RoganTheTwat's advice! You should be ok with the root situation...

If nothing helps,DO NOT drive over it, and DO NOT claim accidental damage. If you do, you would commit fraud and would take minuscule amount of money from their HUGE profits, which they get by ripping off customers. So DO NOT do anything like that mate.

or "Carefully with this one" wrap it up with cotton cloth and apply Warm air by a hair dryer( Do NOT set it on HOT ) apply it randomly don't constraint on one area and make sure you keep distant.

get a bowl of uncooked rice, put the phone inside the bowl and make sure you cover it so that air won't be able to get in. leave it for a day.. also make sure that the phone is off.. you can take the battery out to be safe.. always works.. saved a lot of my friends phone, including one who dropped her cp on a toilet bowl.

This was accidental damage I didn't purposely pour drips of water onto my phone because I wanted to know what will happen. There's no fraud under tmobile's policy if I claim it to be accidental or anything else.. I'm paying $7mo for premium insurance.

I put it in a rice zip-lock bag next to my computer then I'll wrap it with cotton cloth and apply warm air. I'll post results in about 7hrs.

to OP. i dropped my HD2 into the bowl while it was flushing for a good 3 seconds. Didn't work for 5 days. But its still working till now (for more than a year.) i just opened up all the casings and let it dry

Finally, someone with some sense...Moisture will get into that thing like its no ones business if you let it.
If the rice doesnt work, try something stronger. You can get stuff at the grocery store that is meant for drying out moist rooms. I use it to keep the bathroom dry.

Yep. My daughter was in a rush to get into the pool and old dad forgot to take phone out of my pocket.
This happened a few weeks ago. I kept it in a bag of rice for 3 days and no luck.
I've since got another new S6 but was wondering if there's anything I can do in hopes of reviving it.

The rice trick is a lie, its just as stupid to me as when batteries are dead to put them in your armpit to "recharge them" for that last little bit of juice.
The truth is, if you have a removable battery, the first thing you do is PULL that battery and LEAVE it out, which you and I dont. But when theres juice flowimg to the board when water hits it, it super cools very hot and tiny solder points on a board which causes fractures and most of the time complete breaks. Some people get lucky and only suffer from fractured joints from being able to pull the battery out and allowing joints to cool quickly. But with a sealed battery you are basically doomed from the time it hits the water OR if your lucky enough and it just got splashed or dunked for a second it didnt allow enough time to pull in water and your usually safe.
To those people who couldnt fire up their phone it is because water was shorting their phone, and once the water was evaporated if the joints didnt get damaged the phome fores up again. They say its the rice, I say its physics.
The roce thing is a joke, and it "only works" cause YOU the individual who thought the phone was thirsty didnt get it wet enough

I have PROOF of this theory if you thing im lying. Grab and old DESKTOP with an easily removable motherboard and remove it. I HAD ONE FROM 1998 THAT HAD WINDOWS 2000 ON IT. Again make sure its NOT been on, preferable one that has sat in your closet for years. Pull the motherboard and ram and cpu, places where water can get lodged, and soak the motherboard for 10 minutes. Dry it off as much as you can and bake it in the sun for a day, two just to be safe.. That night plug everything back in and it will fire up. It more than likely will run just fine, unless you didnt let it get hot enough to evaporate the water while in the sun. In the same test let the computer run for about 20 minutes, enough time to get everything nice and warm.
Then quickly turn the pc ocr and UNPLUG it and LIGHTLY with a cup of cool water slowly drizzle it on the motherboard and you should start to hear cracking noises. Again the next dry pull it out and you will notice cracks in solder joints. And youll nitce that it never works again.
Maybe ill make a youtube video as I have another old pc.
The point it hot joints dont like cold water. So its all up to how fast water got in if any, most of the time if your phone is sealed properly its just outside on the screen and casing.
Even if it did revive, it's days would be numbered anyway. You could eBay it for water damage/parts only and probably recoup a couple hundred bucks.
Edit: My opinion on the rice is that it only helps dry out the phone slightly faster if left completely sealed airtight and buried for like a week. If there's going to be damage, it has already been done as was stated above.
See...rice works great with humidity or direct contact with water, my problem with rice on a phone is it is not in direct contact with water. NOW if you said you coverd the phone in rice in a SEALED container and threw that out in the sun? Yes I could understand the rice absorbing water faster

I dropped mine in the sink under running water and it shorted out. Put it in rice for 5 days and it started working eventually. Still working flawless to this day. So rice is not totally a lie unless that was just a coincidence. All I know is that my phone is still working after water ****ed it up

Edit: My opinion on the rice is that it only helps dry out the phone slightly faster if left completely sealed airtight and buried for like a week. If there's going to be damage, it has already been done as was stated above.

Is there any way they could pull any of my info off there of I sold it on ebay?

I'm glad you clarified your earlier post. In certain cases, the rice trick does work. It does absorb humidity and draw wetness to itself. However, like you stated, it usually cannot magically pull moisture out of trapped jointed components.

I'm sure if they really wanted to, they could. I doubt anyone would go through trouble. Have you tried hooking it to a computer lately and see if there's a response?
