[Q] Which dock revision to buy? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
After looking at all the threads talking about the battery drain issues I am a little confused about what revision has the battery draining issues and the bug which keeps it from charging. I live outside of the united states so I would not like to RMA the docking station because I don't know how much time will it take for Asus to receive and return it.
As far as i know there are currently 4 revisions (B40,B50,B60,and B70)
So, Could you please advise me what revision has solved the battery draining issues and bugs or I should wait some more time before I buy one?
Thank You.

as far as I know it should've been fixed since b60..
Although some users have reported that it still drained their battery.
I've got a B70 and am not experiencing any battery drain.. (only when the tablet's power has been depleted, it will then charge through the dock which is only natural).

Thanks for your reply. anybody else have an opinion about the b60 docking stations?
Thanks.

[Q] How is the TF's Battery replaced?

So far I have not seen a breakdown video for the TF, so my question is do we have to send our unit back to ASUS to get our TF or Dock battery replaced when they wear out? I have not seen any stats on how long the battery is suppose to last under normal use or just raw hours either.
Anyone have some information on the battery life and how to replace it?
It may just mean they expect that by the time the battery wears out we buy another tablet

I hope not, some people use the transformer more often with higher battery intensive applications than others. So the optimal battery life might not last a whole product cycle for everyone.

[Q] B60K(+) Dock series - where did you get it?

I am looking for a B60K or higher series dock, but all the ones in the stores are only B50K.
If you have a DOCK with B60K or higher, where did you get it?
yeah, I too am interested in getting a B60K dock (here in the UK)
If anyone with one, that sees one available or receives one - can confirm the source location in this thread that would be really great..

Battery discharge rate(in idle) is slower than on older ones.
I got mine from Curreys website - they never had any in store but had the bundle online. Its a brilliant product!!!
B&H photo.. (because I waited for a nowinstock.com link that led to a site without tax in CA )
i got mine from amazon
So what now, B50 owners have inferior hardware and are SOL? I still don't get this....
My dock drains because it's charging my tablet. If my tablet is 50%, it shouldn't be too long before my dock is also at 50% and my tablet is at 100%. Then from here, the dock will continue to drain as it charges my tablet. Then as the dock is full depleted, the tablet will also start to deplete.
What's wrong with this?
Also, it should do the same if its in standby and the tablet needs charging. It's the same as if I were to put it on the charger. I honestly don't care how quick it depletes, I'm getting 14+ hours of use with both combined.
Got mine on amazon last week. from amazon, not an amazon merchant.

People are under the placebo effect of the new dock "lasting longer". I agree with everything you said about the dock having to constantly charge the tablet. It makes sense that it drains over 15%/hour when the Transformer is on and over 3%/hour idle. The battery on the dock doesn't last as long as the TF and some energy is lost from the transfer of electricity from dock to TF.

Could be. It is hard to know for sure. Which I why I want to test a B60 dock myself.
With the transformer and dock disconnected, transformer in standby, both batteries will last over a week. I call this long term standby. Discharge with tablet and dock disconnected is maybe 1-2% a day?
I also believe there is a function in the tablet, as well as the dock, to control when charging is stopped. This function is based around the dock's built in magnet and tablet standby switch, which is overridden to charge both devices when power is applied to the port.
I prefer the newer device versions (both tablet and dock) to go into long term standby when tablet closed on dock, exactly like when they are disconnected. If I wanted to charge something I could plug in a charger or open the tablet/dock to indicate I wanted the dock to charge the tablet. But, when closed it is better to extend battery life to maximum.
These are my opinions, and I am trying to learn.
Sent my dock for repairs, hopefully they will send me back a B6 ,instead of B5.
I got my B60K from TigerDirect in North Atlanta (Braselton). I bought my 32 GB TF one week and dock a week later. They have an advertised special on the dock right now for $149.00. They have GTabs, TF's, 7" and 10.1" Galaxy's, Zooms, Acer Iconias and a great selection of accessories for all of them... You can order online but I just walk in as I drive by there every week...
My B50 keyboard drains at around 1.5% an hour in stand-by with WiFi on. So are these B60 docks nuclear powered or something? No... B50 Docks and B60 Docks are probably the same.

lol, yes nuclear powered.
Just watched 3.5 hours worth of 720p videos, my dock drained 47%. Well within it's advertised battery life. Oh, I am running at 1.2ghz as well.
I guess I don't notice these standby issues (or "issues") because if I am going to leave the TF+dock untouhed for an extended amount of time, I turn it off. It only takes 30 secs to boot. Or sometimes I just switch wifi off with a widget I keep on my homescreen.
Seems many here did not understand the problem.
Heavy draining also occurs when the T/dock is shut off - and this is a hell of nonsense.
Draining in standby is much more as anyone would expect knowing how less T. is loosing in standby when not docked.
Problem is NOT the running time when T/Dock is switched on.

Its definitely B60? If so, then I would like to think if I ordered today, I would get a B60 also? Hard to be sure without chatting to someone who can actually see the product box.

I think it is a smaller group that loves this feature. Because if you keep the tablet docked then there is no difference when your dock charges your tablet, and there is a benefit of prolonging standby. Only if you disconnect your tablet will you need it fully charged.
If Asus wants to support everyone both capabilities should be configurable.

That's fine, I'm just not sure it's possible given the design of the hardware. I honestly have no idea though....
I don't think it's worth the fuss or sending it back in. To each their own. I will continue to use and enjoy my dock.

Just got a B70 dock . What should I check?

just got a B70 dock from amazon. I have a B50 Tablet that seems to be working fine. How can I check to see if my dock is fine and not a problem dock with battery drain, etc? I notice that i can I type faster than the screen can register the words..is this normal?
can someone recommend what to check and how?
Also what is the best way to charge? dock the tablet and charge on the dock or remove tablet and charge both seperately?
as far as the dock goes, I don't think there's really an issue between what model has the battery drain issue as of today. If you're not rooted, and are able to receive the latest firmware update, that is supposed to fix the dock battery drain issue.
and as for charging. I normally charge them both separate when I can, unless of course I'm out and about and it's not possible. While charging the dock with the tablet connected, I find that my charger overheats very easily, and sometime's stops working for a little while.
thank you. how can i read how much power i have on my dock? is there a way to read the power like the tablet.
search for dual battery widget on market
also when you have the tablet docked if you open your notification tray it will say how much battery you have there

Couldn't find replacement battery and back cover

It seem like there is no way to buy a replacement battery for nexus 9 or the back cover. Is there any source for the purchasing?

http://www.etradesupply.com/htc/tablet/htc-google-nexus-9.html

At both sites the replacement battery is out of stock. My battery has started acting very strange (tablet totally turns off around 20%, then when i plug it in battery is 100% dead, needs 15 minutes charging just to start up again).
I did quite a bit of googling but didn't find anything.

I have, it's not the charger. I'd simply like to buy a replacement battery but can't seem to find it for sale anywhere. Does anyone have any idea about where to buy one?
Bumping this thread. My aging Nexus 9 is in need of a new battery, but all the sites posted above show them as out of stock. Has anyone been able to purchase a replacement battery recently?

If anybody is still searching (or has given up already): I just got a new battery from here: http://bigupgadgets.com/battery-35h00218-00m-b0p82100-for-htc-flounder.html. You may find it from other vendors if you search for "35H00218-00M".
The printing on the back looks different from my old battery - looks like this is indeed a new part, rather than a refurbished/replacement HTC battery. It fit perfectly, and charged fine. I just installed it yesterday, so I can't yet say how well it performs long term.

Many thanks! I was able to order a replacement battery and replace mine. After about a week of use, I have not seen any issues. :good: Only complaint I would have is the slow shipping.

So how did it turn out? My Nexus 9 is going to become sort of a lab rat for full-scale linux development on the device so I'm considering replacing the dying battery as well. I could get the aforementioned battery for around 30€. If the battery works without blowing up and is the advertised capacity, that is.

It worked well, fewer slowdowns and crashes. That may be in part also because I fixed the location of the copper plate/heat sink that had been placed under the original battery (leading the heat into the device) to where it was supposed to be. Some problems that may be more related to the chip/RAM/64bit choice persisted (browser is still super slow with just a few tabs open). Not using it much these days except for ebooks, Hoopla, etc. When I don't use it for a while, I turn of the Wifi and the charge holds for many days. Good luck with your Linux endeavors.

Well all the other malfunctions are definitely NOT related to the battery, except if the old one maybe started to lack in persistent current delivery (which would cause the sudden shutoff - my Nextbit Robin had it as well and it would behave as if the battery wasn't designed to power the chipset, crashing at 70% charge). If something in the power delivery goes wonky then maybe that also messed up some memory addresses and CPU calculations.
But enough being a smartass - if the battery does hold up without life-threatening malfunctions then it might be a good option?

What I was trying to share is that the new battery (and its proper placement) fixed a couple of things for me that I hadn't expected to be related to the battery. So I got actually way more than just increased battery life. With some non-original batteries (e.g. for cameras) you see that the copies are definitely inferior to the original. This one was as good or better.
Of course that was two years ago - production standards may have changed, or you may get a battery that's been sitting around for the last two years (what would that do to a battery? - I have no idea). Mine's still working well after this time. I would definitely go for it, but I'd try to find a vendor where I can send it back if for some reason it's not working as advertised. I haven't heard of any of these batteries exploding, and really would not worry about it. Hope that helps.

Mediapad x2 freezing when charging and original charger

Hi!
My x2 started to freeze when charging. I started to wonder if it's because of the charger, because I lost the original one and just started to use a samsung charger I had in the drawer. Although I've been using it for a year now..
If someone would be so kind and post a pic or the details of the original charger so I could try if that would remedy the problem.
Thx
My experience is that the original charger is actually not as good as the Samsung charger by any means. The original charger I believe is actually out putting less than in this specification which is 2 amps. The Samsung charger is much better and charges the phone faster. However I have also noticed something really weird in that sometimes after charging the phone overnight my battery is only at around 80% or so and this is random because it only happens sometimes and most times it charges fully. Not sure if anybody else has seen this Behavior
Please use the QUOTE feature when replying to me to get my attention. Thanks!
So the original charger is 5V, 2A? Thanks. I'll try some other charger. It may be busted. Or I have to do a factory reset and see if that fixes the problem

Yes, yesterday my 2 year X2 started to do the same. I was stunned when after short time of charging I realised so phone was freezed and got quite hot on the back. Orange light slowly blinking and after restart it was 80% charged. I suppose it's problem with original charger. I have to look for another one...
//Edit - this is not original charger but Samsung - 5V/2A which till now was working without problems. It's not depends on charger type, occurs even during connecting to USB in PC.
//Edit - if you switch off charger and let it be some time, the phone starts anew. But, what is interesting, newly made TWRP nandroid backup turns out to be delted from SD card.during this 'blackout'..
//Edit - it starts occur not only during charging.. But in such case after self-acting restart phone goes to bootloop so it is needed to restart it manually and then it starts realatively quicker than normal.
Hmm.. could it be the battery dying? I'm using simply international B202 ROM. If changing the charger doesn't help I'll flash the newest ROM in and if even that doesn't fix it I guess I'll change the battery.
Same problem on mine but not when charging. Try my LineageOS 13 ROM, it's faster than EMUI and should make the phone feel faster again. I think Huawei is pulling an Apple and slowing our phones down as the battery dies.
I did a TWRP factory reset and the problem vanished! Hope it won't come back.. I'll try your lineage ajsmsg78 if necessary thx for the tip and all your work!
I have been having very unusual battery issues lately and I do not think it has to do with the charger at all but rather the physical battery itself.
Symptom 1: After charging overnight, by battery is only approx 79% charged
Symptom 2: Battery does MUCH quicker
Symptom 3: When battery gets to approx 20% it does right away giving the popup message that the battery is dead and the phone will turn off in 30 seconds - sounds like defective cell
Symptom 4: Putting the phone on charger when battery is critically low (10%) for 3 minutes, the battery level jumps to 90%
Does anyone know where we can buy a GOOD QUALITY battery to replace for the X2? I know there are some links on AliExpress but I do not know if I can trust those aftermarket batteries in terms of quality and life and reliability.
Also does anyone know how easy it is to replace? I have good soldering skills but don't know if here is more involved than that.
Edit: In the unlikely event that this is a software issue, I might try to clear my "batterystats.bin" file.
Please use the QUOTE feature when replying to me to get my attention. Thanks!
Unfortunately all those symptoms talk about battery dying state...

I took apart a Mate 9 and replaced some insides and it was really easy. The X2 shouldn't be any different. You don't have to solder anything, just pull up the flex cable connecting the battery to the motherboard and then pull on the tab on the bottom of the battery to remove the sticky tape underneath it then use some force to pull it up. I only see aftermarket batteries for the X2 so you may not have any other choice but to buy one of those. Your battery is definitely dying though.
