I have just upgraded from an unbranded Desire I used on Voda UK to a Voda UK Sensation and I am very disappointed.
The Sensation has the potential to be a fantastic phone, but for a few really annoying faults.
1) The Phone network reception is terrible. In my house I have a very good 2g Voda reception and quite good 3g reception (One of the reasons I went with Voda years ago) I have NEVER had a problem with any other phone on Voda in my house before until now. The sensation will one minute show 3-4 bars of 2g signal, if I then pick it up and start using it, browsing the web etc, the phone will often go to no service. When I am talking on the phone in my house the person at the other end constantly complains that I am cutting out.
I have read about the alleged “grip of death” problems the sensation has if you hold the phone at the top with the Wi-Fi signal dropping and mine does that as well. I think the GSM/3G aerial is at the bottom of the case which is exactly where most people hold their phone normally and holding it defiantly affects the mobile signal as well as Wi-Fi a LOT more then I have experienced with any other phone to the point of it losing the signal in a strong area.
I am getting a replacement from Voda next week as I am still within the 7 days. I really hope this one is better with regard to GSM/3G signal.
2) I am getting the well documented problem with the Widgets (even the HTC power widget) intermittently getting coloured lines through it. It may be fine for a day then one starts and then they all start ending up in the widgets becoming unread able. To clear the problem you either have to remove the widget and then re place it on the home screen or change the scene and then back again or reboot the phone (rebooting does not always work, seems to be pot luck). I have read that HTC say that this is to do with 3rd party software not being written for QHD resolution!! Well HTC as the Sensation is, as far as I am aware, the first phone to have a QHD screen, how many f**king apps do they think will be written for QHD screens?? This is not the case anyway as sometimes they display fine for a day or so and sometimes their own power widget suffers!! Come on HTC, it is your responsibility to make sure at least 3rd party software written for earlier resolutions display without corruption, I can understand when apps display small and don’t take up the whole screen but this is a BUG.
3) I am also getting another commonly reported problem. Sense almost always reboots after installing/removing/moving an app and sometimes after exiting an app. I have read that people have put this down to the new sense being quite memory hungry and the device can shut Sense down sometimes if memory runs low??? WHAT ??? This version of sense was written by HTC for THIS PHONE!!! How can this phone not have enough RAM memory to deal with it??? I experimented with custom ported versions of this sense on my rooted Desire and sense would very, very rarely reboot, but I accepted those very few occasional sense reboots as they were custom roms with ported software not designed for that phone also modified to use the SD card for internal storage to overcome the Desires lack of internal storage. Again this is a BUG, possibly a memory leak somewhere?
I really do not expect these sort of serious, normal use affecting BUGS on a stock rom from HTC.
I have received the OTA update 1.35.161.2 but note that it isn’t quite the latest version released by HTC but I suppose it’s the Voda version, but this hasnt solved these problems.
I really hope HTC sort the software problems out ASAP, as there really is a lot to like about the Sensation, the screen looks fantastic with text/pictures and videos and the speed of the phone is very impressive and the new sense is very good software if these bugs are sorted.
But if my replacement Sensation has the same signal performance as this one, I am afraid it will be back to the slow, small screened desire for me as at least I can use it properly and generally reliably as a phone!!!!
Rant over!!!
Honestly... I have not had a single problem with my Sensation. If I were you, I would exhange it for a new one. Probably a defective unit. Go to a different store when you exchange it.

Same here..this phone is phenomenal
Ok, thanks for replys, hoping that replacment unit has at least better signal performance.
So you guys dont ever get problems with colour bars running though widgets or sense rebooting? Lots of people have posted about these problems with no answers so far. Do you have many Widgets on your home screen? I have seen a few people who posted that they eventually ended up removing the widgets. I supose if you dont have any/very few widgets the problem will not/may not occur, but for me the widgets are one of the great things about Andriod and Sense and makes them better than an iphone running iOS!
That's a bummer! Just exchange it...I've had no issues with mine!
I have EXACTLY the same software issues with my Sensation on T-Mobile USA. My reception is fine, I haven't had any problems there, but the colored lines on non HTC widgets and sense reloading after installing, uninstalling, moving to SD card or after playing a game/surfing for a long period definitely happens. This is my second replacement and it was better the first few days and now is doing the same thing that was happening before. Some days Sense doesn't reload much, maybe once. Other days, like yesterday, it reloads close to 10 times. I'm hoping HTC fixes it with the update that is supposed to come in August, in the mean time I installed LauncherPro Plus. It isn't having any of the problems the HTC launcher did. I miss the Sense home screen a lot, but not having a few HTC widgets is a small price to pay for the phone working correctly.
ru using Advanced task killer/manager or any other battery saving applications like Dr.battery or any other things like memory boost, ram booster if so please remove it.. even i had the same color bar problem in the widgets i had removed the above applications now its all fine no problem at all...
it might be another problem than just them apps. I've had both of the apps you've mentioned and never once had the application problems that the op mentioned.

I'd owned a few android phones (7) including LG P 990, according to my exp they couldn't beat sensation even it was temp root and stock ROM. But it is really hot (battery)
Related
Hey guys,
I've just receieved my third HTC handset with what I'd consider to be a major issue.
HTC Touch2 in 2009 - would often power off during calls (probably due to WinMo). Hardware buttons quickly became loose after about a month of use, and the backlighting stopped working.
HTC Legend in 2010 - this phone is two months old and the top speaker is so broken I can barely hear somebody on a call. Everything crackles and pops and, according to people on the other end, they can barely hear me either. It's annoying as when I bought it the call quality was great but gradually the speaker got buzzier and buzzier.
HTC 7 Trophy - the most serious of the bunch. Yesterday, whilst web browsing, the phone displayed a still multicoloured screen of static. None of the buttons would work. After taking the battery out and restarting, the static re-appeared. I've managed to power on the phone since - you have to wait an hour with the battery out - but you get the same static lock ups when web browsing or using search after about five minutes. Having had a similar experience on my laptop, it looks to me like a GPU failure.
Am I the only one who has experienced incredibly shoddy hardware quality control from HTC? I'm going to have to replace the HTC Trophy and, at the moment, I'm starting to seriously question going with an HTC. The touch2's button issues were forgiveable because that was relatively cheap, the Legend's speaker was incredibly annoying but the Trophy's GPU failures are completely unforgiveable IMO. They render the phone completely useless.
Am I just unlucky or have others experienced similar concerns?
Cheers
My Hero has been fine, along with my touch... Although that met a washing machine in the end
Finally ~ Someone With A Similar Issue
Finally, someone that doesn't purely worship HTC... Although I haven't experienced issues to the magnitude of your's, I haven't been 100% happy with my phone since the day I bought it. I have a HTC Desire, and I got this phone in confidence after reading many reviews about how good the phone was, these reviews were clearly written from people with 0% experience with the phone.
I will number the issues I have had with the build quality of this phone...
1) The case on the back of the phone, has only ever been took off about 4 times, I have never dropped my phone or anything, however it starting to come off, yes, I can take the back of my phone off, without using the finger slot.
2) The screen is so easy to scratch? It was in a pocket with an Asthma spray, and there was no vigorous shaking of my pocket, yet somehow the screen just completely f****d up man... wow.
3) This is probably the worst issue I have. Every time HTC releases an update for my phone, I run into some sort of issue. I got my phone in May/April 2010 (it's on Orange UK however de-branded and now due to update issues, running a custom ROM) and immidiatley I found that an update had been released. After downloading the update the phone started to install the update, however it restarted and nothing happened. Left it for about an hour, nothing... So yes, I did the worst, took the battery out and messed it up completely. The shop I got it from forced me to send it to HTC, it took them 5 weeks (VERY poor customer service) and when I got it back they had barely fixed it, as when I turned it on, it finished installing the update?
4) I have had some other software issues, such as the system occasionally locking up and having to remove the battery to get anything to work. Occasionally the screen will lock up, like I won't be able to click any icons, however I'll be able to swipe from screen to screen, and it really can be quite annoying. As far as battery goes, it will last me an entire day, but will require a charge at the end of the day.
However, I think me and you are in a minority. I'm 14 years old, and I talked my Dad into buying a HTC Desire HD. He hasn't had a single problem with his, it installs updates perfectly without and issue, and the software performs seaming-less (except for a problem with a process that took up 80.9% of the RAM, fixed by turning the USB Debugging on?) So I believe HTC are good, theres just a few really, really bad apples in there, and unfortunately HTC won't admit this, and don't want to do anything about it... I hope I helped, I'm fairly new on here...
Cheers, Michael.
Well guys, you are a minority indeed. This Tuesday I received my Desire HD,which is my fourth handset from HTC.I have had a Diamond,a Hero,a Desire and now the Desire HD.The only problem I ever had was with my Diamond which, after one year and a half took some water in it without getting exposed to any water, but it was because the climate here is very humid.Other than that I have never had an issue. And I am no fanboy,if I had problems I would change without second thought.
I'll just tell you that a friend of mine punched my Desire HD with his full strength(don't ask why) while it was in my pocket.I thought the phone was done for, scrap, but the phone is like nothing happened. My friend's hand wasn't so lucky however,it still needs ice!
I currently have a Vibrant and I feel like this phone was a total POS until almost 6month later when voodoo lag fix came along and ROMS started to come out that had working GPS, better data, etc etc... If not for the dev community I would have thrown this thing out the window the 2nd time the GPS couldn't find me on google maps...
I love tinkering with a phone, but I also want to start with a phone that doesn't have random reboots, crappy GPS, slow file system lag and all the other crap I had to deal with the Vibrant (and my first android MyTouch 3g)... Althought most issues have been ironed out now, it took almost a year since I first purchased my Vibrant, and I am looking to upgrade either to G2x, Sensation or GSII. Don't want to start a battle which is better, but from what I gathered so far from G2x:
-Screen: hit or miss, some complain about bleed, some say its the best thing ever... seems like the quality control is really a hit or miss with the display
-Data: Won't connect to 4g network, generally seems to be unreliable and signal strength weaker than most phones but has a great GPS
-Battery: Heard there is a battery drain issue, some say its corrected with factory reset?
-Integration: Stock android 2.2? So I am guessing contacts aren't linked together to social network profiles?
-Build Quality: Better than most other phones, rock solid not many complain
-Speed: Looks like its a pretty quick phone for running on an un-optimized OS, will get quicker with updates
Before anyone starts praising and telling me this phones potential and that CM is going to make this awesome, I really don't care... my Vibrant had the potential to not be a total POS either, a year later its somewhat tolerable and right about the time when dual core phones have come out and me starting to look for upgrade. So I guess I just want to know what are some known issues with the phone today that you guys have noticed. I know there is no perfect phone, but I want something that can be tolerable for at least a little while before a custom rom comes out that doesn't breaks more things than it fixes
Me Personnally
I too also came from the vibrants ., and was also fed up with the crappy support from samsung, and that an official cm has still not seen the light of day.
Thats the reason i got the g2x. From what i heard, its completely open. Alot of the top devs for cm have or are getting the phone.
I think the screen bleed is something that everyone is going to have to get used too. I have some bleeds at the corner of my screen too.
Performance wise; without tweaks, just straight out of the box for me, this has destroyed my vibrant with teamweaskys latest rom.
I wont get the sensation because of the locked bootloader, and i am not going to trust or put up with the crap that samsung gave us with the vibrant.
This phone is AWESOME!!!!!!! i am loving it so much.
apart from the screen bleed, all the other issues you see here, are all temporary, i mean real temporary.
Ps
Saw a tweet come in with some peeps already running gingerbread on there gx2
Same Reason why I bought the phoen was because the bootloader is unlocked, but unfortunately this phone has to many other issue's.

These are my opinions.
-Screen: Yes, some bleed more than others. I think this issue has been blown way out of proportion as it seems the majority of users have to manipulate screen brightness, environment and content displayed on the screen in order to show bleed.
-Data: I only have 2G in my area. When I'm out in 4G areas away from home, I just set the connection to force 4G data and it's smokin' fast, never drops.
-GPS: Most of the time it locks on instantly for me on any Froyo ROM. Sometimes it takes about 60 seconds. If it looks like it's going to take a while, I usually close Maps, open GPS Status & Toolbox to refresh the AGPS data and it'll lock solid again. This should be fixed as soon as Gingerbread drivers are available.
-Battery: Battery is up to par with other Android phones in my opinion. Seems better on any tweaked out Froyo or Gingerbread ROM.
-Integration: I don't use social network/contact integration so I can't even touch on this. Don't know how and not interested. Sorry.
-Build Quality: Good weight, doesn't feel cheap. Generally accepted that it has Gorilla Glass. I have a couple extremely light scratches on my screen, so it's probably a good idea to get a screen protector if you care about such things. I just haven't touched a screen protector I like so I don't use one. I've taken the back off about 15 times and there is now one spot on the phone that if I squeeze, it creaks a little bit. Can't tell with normal use and still feels solid.
-Speed: Stock ROM is a little sluggish but with a couple flashable mods, maybe a kernel, this phone is super fast. I don't even feel the need to overclock. Currently running EaglesBlood Froyo 1.05 with faux's froyo kernel at the time of this writing.
Hope some of this helps you out.
Edit: And with an unlocked bootloader, just flash recovery and start crackflashing away. Love not messing with bootloaders.
Add Randomly REFORMATS to the list. My phone has reformatted itself randomly three times now since i've had it. stock. Once it like forgot it had an OS and just kept looping itself and then installed the OS randomly. Badass phone.

I can atest this also has happened to me. LG has a class action suit against them, you should all file your complaints.
I made a thread about this because it could give insight as to whether there are deeper hardware issues that could lead to some of these software instabilities;
The 3.5 mm audio jack has very audible noise/hiss on it when the amplifier is turned on (up to 1 second after any sound finishes playing, such as after the tone you hear when changing the ringer volume). This should be completely inaudible if the circuit itself is designed properly and everything is shielded where it should be, and if the components related to power supply/filtering are working properly. If someone could test this (takes 5 seconds) with their good and faulty phones, stock or modded, it may demonstrate something.
More: non-reboot bugs. On pressing the power button to unlock the phone today (3 days since factory reset, 1.5 weeks since buying) the unlock slider is missing, except for the white triangle pointing to the right. Sliding it makes it appear and play the animation, and it appears next unlock.
Another random: Holding volume down until it is vibrating non-stop and then powering down the phone causes some apps to show and do random things after the power down animation plays, before the screen suddenly blanks.
I still urge owners of variably configured G2x's to test for the presence of noise as described in my thread- if LG has hardware problems instead of all software, not everything is safe by modding the ROM. Perhaps the noise is shoddy software coding. The DAC and opamps used here would not create that, only the circuit design.

I don't even think I own a pair of headphones anymore... hahaha. I'll try this with a set of powered speakers as soon as my children let me.
Wow I was going to buy G2x. Can anybody answer about 4G data part who use it on regular basis? Is it really not reliable?
I was thinking of upgrading from HD2 to g2x mainly because of 4G and front camera, but if 4G is not properly working on this one, I have to select some different phone then..
After a pleasing start, I'm no longer recommending this phone to friends.
Battery life (due dialer app no doubt ) and tiny memory are ruining the Android experience for me.
I'm going back to my legend if this isn't sorted.
Shame tho
Sent from my HTC ChaCha A810e using Tapatalk
Heh, I feel the exact same way. I love the keyboard, but the phone has far too many problems.
I installed less than 10 apps on internal memory before I ran out of space. Even after installing every app on the SD card, I have less than 20 MB of space left.
The Dialer issue and the fact that my phone loses 40% of battery overnight (even without the Dialer problem) is also extremely worrying.
The phone is otherwise riddled with other small bugs. Universal search doesn't really work properly; I can't search my contacts/messages/any HTC app unless I change "All" to the specific app. The HTC web browser doesn't seem to support bookmarks properly.
This phone would be almost perfect if it worked properly (and didn't have a Facebook button, but that's a minor annoyance only).
I'm going to make a trip to the HTC service center. They told me to do that after I emailed them with my problems. But I doubt these issues are specific to my device only, considering the responses in my other thread.

Rant over!!!

factory reset will fix the green lines problem. I've never had it.
The cell signal strength issue is a big issue for me as well (and many others.)
Are you using a cheap TPU case? stop. it has caused problems for me and others.
I don't understand... What did you develop?
You suck as much as your phone.

Very, Very, sorry, posted on wrong forum, had too many browser sessions open.
PLEASE DELETE and I will post it in the correct forum.
I take it that everybody who felt the immediate need to post just to point out that I posted in the wrong forum are lucky enough to be S-OFF and running custom ROMS/Lastest Radio versions that solve these problems)
I just love how many of these “helpful” people there are that scour this forum and feel the need to immediately jump on and INSULT people who have obviously just made a mistake. Leave it to the mods who are there to just delete such mistakes as I have made.
Thanks chisleu for a constructive answer, no I am not using any case, I fear that unfortunalty I am not going to get an improvement with the replacement, oh well.

No need, the mods moved it, they should probably put it back so you can develop thicker skin and less butthurt.
Havent been facing any big problem for me.
I've had an iPhone for the past 5 years.
I decided to take the plunge & buy an android yesterday.
I purchased the AT&T HTC One XL.
This is my experience so far:
1) Audio -- while listening to music, opening another app sometimes either crashes the player or momentarily fragments the sound.
2) Connectivity (in NYC using the 4G LTE network) -- very patchy. Seems to go in and out, even though I've never had these issues in the same area on the 3G network. Don't know if this is a network issue, or just a phone connectivity issue overall. Pandora constantly goes 'in and out'.
3) Seems like there is no caching (anywhere):
a) Opening a web site, briefly checking my mail, and then switching back to the website, makes the website reload.
b) Conversely, opening, e..g, my mail, going to the web browser, and then going back to my mail, makes my mail reload.
For a phone with 1GB of RAM, I don't anticipate this issue -- my iPhone 4 with half the ram was able to keep many more apps and browser tabs in memory for extended periods of time.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues?
Do I have a faulty phone?
Are any of these 'issues' just the way the android OS works? (like said, i've never used android before, so i have no clue.!)
Will a future software update fix them?
I'm very much contemplating returning this device and reviving my iphone 4;
but I don't want to if i don't have to -- android allows everyone I wish the iphone would.
Thanks you.
I haven't had any of the issues you are mentioning. I used my music player for an hour while mowing the grass tonight. As far as the 4G LTE goes, I can't comment on that since I don't have it where I live.
When your music was messing up, where you using the music app or google music player? I would try the other just to see if that issue is with both.
Other than that, I would swap the phone out as you may have just got a bad one.
I take it you have the ATT ONe X?
I just got my ATT One X today, so I haven't fully put it through the tests, but I did have an Unlocked Euro One X about a month ago that had quite a few bugs. One was the sound issue you mentioned. When I played music thru any music player the sound broke up when you hit a hardwear button or sometimes just on its own.

She give you an ETA by any chance?
#2 pisses me off the most. No one else has this issue?

Got mine yesterday and having only the issue with wifi signal and 4g signal showing. Lte is lightning fast where I am. I've been able to listen to music through my car speakers, take phone calls and text at the same time.
No eta and she shuddered a lot like she wanted to say an eta but the manager that was also talking stopped her I think lol. And it does work fine in the car it's when your using the built in speaker and doing other stuff . It's an intermittent issue
I am having issue number 3. My original iphone multitasked better than my one x is right now. Web pages always reload when I go back to them no matter the browser. Heck almost every app reloads.
Here's the number I called fyi
8664498358
For your nyc issue. You wouldn't happen to me walking would you? It might be connecting to Starbucks WiFi which can't be disable if WiFi is on. This was happening to me

Yes #2 is a HUGE issue for me. To the point (as expressed in another thread) that I'm ready to return it altogether and just keep my Sprint contract alive afterall for their EVO 4G LTE...Despite the fact I won't have 4G, at least I know their network is up consistently and is reliable!
I talked to a nice lady on the phone just now and she said this was the first time she had a call from a subscriber with a One X...So she hasn't heard anything. Just not enough data and time. She looked at some notes and AT&T does have the WiFi issue flagged in their system. I told her yes I was experiencing that one too. It's an issue when coming out of WiFi your data doesn't connect.
She had me turn off my phone, she disconnected me from their network and then I came back on it. After I explained to her with the WiFi issue, I worked around it by turning all off and then airplane mode, she said, yes airplane mode does the same thing and will essentially reset your connection to their network. You may be assigned a different tower, IP, etc.
So you can try that. Turn everything all off. Then turn airplane mode on. Then off and then the mobile network back on. You'll see a notice saying "preparing SIM card" ...
However, despite all that. I still have constant connectivity issues. The phone will not stay connected for long periods of time. It is always bouncing between LTE, HSPA+ and simply not connected at all. There's a few apps that I go to update in the store and all their downloads fail because the phone will not stay connected long enough to download them.
WHEN the phone is connected, for those brief periods of time, the speeds are good. I've seen nearly 30Mbps download on LTE to a close test server and 5, 10, 23, etc. on test servers farther away. It's extremely fast. Unfortunately, the phone simply won't stay connected to their network rendering it just about useless for anything other than getting some e-mail messages as they are able to trickle in.
thanks
The connectivity issue is horrible on my phone. I don't even have any clue that it's gone bad until I try to send a text or make a call that refuses to go through. A reset used to fix my problem, but recently it became very very stubborn (many resets... thought I tried everything and was preparing to drive to the store) and then I tried the all radios off, airplane on, airplane off, mobile on and it finally fixed itself. very frustrating, but thanks for the tip. Not sure I'll be keeping this phone. My iPhone 3gs was overall far more reliable.

That's explains why you didn't experience the #1 issue, it's only when music player is on background you start/switch to another app.
I'm experiencing all the above, but after LG Nitro HD I'll take these issues ten fold without complains. This phone is awesome even these issues.
the caching one sucks!

I have #2 and #3.
I was going to give HTC till day 29 prior to returning it,, however, ive changed my mind. Taking back tomorrow morning. It frustrates me to no end for the following reasons in order of importance.
1. Battery Life- only 6-8 hours with maybe 1.5 hours screen time. Thought maybe I received a dud based upon the reports of others but,,,,
2. Multitasking- there is none. 3/4 of the memory is ate up with crap running which probably accounts for the lack of caching. Due to there being no multitasking, my old iphone, iphone 4s and lumia 900 wipe the floor with this unit. It actually reminds me of the old galaxy S in terms of performance.
3. messaging- no notification
4. email-Can only send one attachment at a time.
5. email, cant click links, must copy
6. email- when you move an email to a folder, you must do additional steps to get back to inbox
7. System- pretty much everything requires so many additional taps, it is counter intuitive
8. camera- not on par with iphone 4s or galaxy s2, however software is better. I really wonder if the compression settings are what is destroying the photos.
9. No Visual Voicemail- without downloading more crappy bloatware from ATT
I do love the screen, the Quadrant scores are outstanding but not indicative of the phones actual performance and usability. I was excited, now not so much at all. There are so many other things to list but numbers 1,2,3 pretty much negate the use of this phone. I also have the Lumia 900 and iphone 4S. And so far I am most impressed by the Lumia900. However, it's camera, well, stinks.
You're crazy bro. I just scanned 6 pages wirelessly from my WorkForce 545 with my HTC One and emailed them out directly...that was 6 attached files...
Battery is awesome, but you could drain it in a few hours depending on what you do...but the same goes for every other phone.
I mean, I'd seriously give the thing a factory reset and a good charge. Play with it some more... He'll, root it and use titanium backup to remove bloatware...
But eh up to you
