Hello!
I have had this problem since I bought my TC: Opening the SMS from Today or from the start menu messaging sometimes can take minutes! Is this usual or is it my cruise that's doing this?
sometimes it takes longer to open the SMS window, but i have never experienced it taking up to a minute Oo
If you leave it on tho (not closing it in taskmanager), it will come up instantly the next times you use it. not sure if it uses extra power when it's running in the background tho :/
:/
Yeah that's what I do usually. But sometimes it gets really annoying. Especially the first time you turn the phone on. Is there any work around to this problem?
This is one of the things people should complain about to HTC. Same goes for the dialer.
HTC claims the phone is fully usable without the HW accelerated video drivers. Really? To me looks like a nice toy not ready to hit the market. There are so many problems which are not solved and for which IMHO we will never see a solution. We will get, may be, at some point in time the upgrade to WM6.1: a new set of bugs and problems. Thanks allot HTC!!!
Actually I have msg'd the HTC support twice so far about this with no reply whatsoever! Is it a problem with the video drivers as well? It seems ridiculous and I have been considering returning the phone and getting something more useable.
No workarounds whatsoever?
hi qrasher,
Don't panic. I don't want to say that is a video driver. I just wanted to say that the main complaint about the Polaris is and always was the lack of accelerated video drivers. Peoples seems to forget what a usable device means.
I never was and I guess I'll never be a big fan of Apple, but playing with some of their gadgets (iPod, iPhone) one can recognize a master piece of engineering.
I'm very disappointed by my Polaris and by the reaction of HTC tech support (wrote to them on several occasions and never got an answer).
F
The reason I got a polaris was that the specs and features looked good and HTC had a good reputation. I SMS quite a lot and the fact that the device is non-responsive sometimes is annoying.
One of my friends has got an iPhone and it seems very responsive and well-designed. I just don't understand why a ~400 GBP machine can't deliver *at least* responsiveness. I might just get an iPhone as well, perhaps when the next gen comes out.
If you've got mail attachments, try deleting those. Mine are store on SD in Inbox.something folder.
Nope, no attachments, the problem had always been there. Out of the box. Very unresponsive...
I've read post from people that seem to be very anal about there phones and nit pick at every little thing, I sold my thunderbolt and love this fine piece of technology despite some issues like light leakage. I personally still like the phonea lot. Its not to big and not to small, Nvidia hardware a company that is actually using the dualcore processors in its gaming applications through Tegra Zone. If the G2x is good enough for steve aka cyanogen its great for me. Not having to deal with Sense and HTC is even better, I don't even want to bother with Samsung phones and updates LOL.

The software was rushed out the door, but if you remove My Account and WiFi Calling it stabilizes pretty well. I like mine, my wife likes hers (and she's an iPhone fangirl)
Do agree it was rushed out the door but overall worth it . This is, my first non-htc android phone. Previous ones (g1, mytouch slide, g2(wifes)), all were rooted the first week I had em., well still have them to.

Hell yea, I love this phone... It is the most amazing phone I have ever used... And I have used plenty of android phones... I had HD2 (CM7 Nightly), Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S 4g, HTC shift and now G2X.... Somehow I never liked Atrix, and I do not know why. When I held that phone in my hand I did not feel like I am holding a cutting edge technology in my hand....
As for the G2X, best thing about this phone is, it comes with stock android(close enough)... You are free to do whatever you feel like doing with it. It is going to have amazing dev support, IMO it already has.
I do not have much LCD issues now with my phone luckily. (But that after replacing my phone.) I do not use WIFI at all, coz at my place tmob 4G is faster than my wifi.
I do not have random rebooting issue, one reason for that not happening may be that I let my device reboot after 2-3 days just to get my battery cycle. My GPS works fine. Bluetooth works fine though one time I had issue of my phone forgetting profile for my laptop.
I have laucher pro, go launcher ex, adw launcher installed. I have set them up differently according to the days and time... I keep changing them and still my phone never got hung, never rebooted itself, and never slowed down.... There is enough ram and storage for my use... I have almost 150 apps installed..
I have 8-10 hours of battery life after calibrating it with battery calibrator.. My usage is normal.. I keep background sync on for gmail, facebook, twitter, weather and pulse news. I watch 2-2.5 hours of podcast and youtube.. for 45mins - 1 hour I surf web, xda app and market...
In all I love this phone, it runs very very fast and smooth, and for the first time I am able to use all the apps to their full potential. Like in all the launchers, I can now set any animations I like without worrying about phone freezing or slowing down on me....
I love the phone when it is working right, but the battery use is horrendous. It is worse then my 2.5 year old G1 and it's battery was on it's last leg. I have done the factory reset and it seemed to work for a day and then slowly got worse again since last friday.
I'm using the phone about a 1/3rd of what I would with my g1 (out of fear of draining the battery) and the battery burns through quicker then the old phone. Yesterday I watched a 1 minute you tube video, sent 3 texts, opened a few emails, and played 3 turns on wordfued (total of about 1 minute, 1 move each on 3 games). The rest of the time all I got to do was use to monitor the battery, woo hoo, what fun.
I am also getting lots of reboots now (probably 20 total in a week and a half), and a few freezes. This morning the pinch zoom seems to be out of calibration too.
Tmobile is sending me a new phone and I hope it fixes it. My wife's seems to be working fine.
When it is working probably it is awesome, I'm fairly sure it can move around in google maps quicker than my computer!

every tmobile device that had android i had it. i also had the nexus s since release. i was ready to give up on this device but now since cm7 im liking it even more than i expected. stock isnt always so good....for the nexus it was but stock on the g2x had issues with battery life, signal, reboots etc. this is my 3rd device and i have very minimal bleeding and its great from what i use to have. im just looking forward to more roms preferrably one or two sense ones, and ill be a happy camper.
I am very happy with my G2x. There are some minor issues that I have experienced, but nothing that is going to make me want to get rid of the device. This is my 4th attempt at using an Android Phone. I had the T-Mobile MyTouch 4g when it was first released, but I was not a fan.
Then go forward to when the Samsung Galaxy S 4G was released, I got that phone. I returned it after 14 days, and then went and bought the Nexus S. I loved the Nexus S, but it was not the phone for me and I knew it. I had been waiting for the G2x, and since it was released right before my 30 day window was up, I exchanged my Nexus S for it.
I LOVE IT! It is one of the best phones I have ever used. It might not have the best battery life in the world, but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that the phone itself has a lot of features, and a dual-core processor. I think I will be buying a spare battery, which I do not mind doing as long as the phone works well.
Yes I am happy with this phone. All new phones have bugs. I remember my last phone the Samsung Epic having a cap on the data speed as well as other minor bugs. I have yet to experience a random reboot on this phone.
My phone is:
Rooted
Bloatware removed
ADW Settings used to customize my pages
Juice Defender on Extreme setting
Advance Task Killer used each time before turning off my screen
Switchpro used to put custom widgets on top of my home page.
Wintec 16gb MicroSD class 10
My battery drops 1% in 6 hours from the time I sleep and wake up.
My battery drops about 20-30% in 12 hours of light to moderate use during the day.
I got mine this past Sunday and I love it. No reboots, LCD not a problem. My main issue is that I get zero service (the x) inside my building at work. I would think I would at least get 1 bar since I'm in a "very good" 4G area. When I wake the phone, I have 2 bars, but it goes to zero in about 5 seconds. When I take about 10 steps out of my building, I get 4 bars. I can use wifi-calling while at work, but still haven't decided if I want to keep it. I'm thinking of dealing with it for a month and if necessary, swapping it for the Sensation. But if the reception was better, I would definitely keep it. I much prefer vanilla Android over HTC sense. My wife has no issues whatsoever with hers. Both of ours have a 4/05 date bought at Costco in Overland Park, KS.
I am glad you guys like it, as I am waiting for mine to arrive in these two days.
Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones. I never had a reboot or problems with bleeding. Hardware wise it is perfect for me. Yes, sometimes I get annoyed when I rub my pinky against the usb port, but its all good. Coming from the vibrant I do miss certain features of touchwiz. Especially the smart dialer and contacts app. This stock froyo one is brutal. I feel like i'm ranting now. Well to sum it up, heres what I like and what I don't:
Pros:
1. Cyanogen Support (A nightly already?!)
2. It's only been out for 2 weeks, the xda community is booming
3. Sexy build quality
4. IPS screen...sometimes it feels like an iPhone...is it just me?
5. Speed
6. Vanilla!
7. FFC cough for the girlfriend cough
Cons
1. Screen Accuracy
2. Battery could have been bigger** (maybe a arc reactor would have been nice)
Thats it :O
**Thats what she said.
I loved my phone at first until other issues started to arise... I got it the day before it hit stores... now when unlocking my phone it pauses on a black screen shows me my screen then brings me to the unlock screen... A PAIN and time consuming! My battery is flakey sometimes REALLY good and sometimes sooooooo awful its unthinkable! Today, I called to finally get a replacement... time to unroot and return!
***lmao at that's what she said!***

I really like the device a great deal. However, I am on my third. Calling issues have plagued my previous two. I think it MAY have been an application, or some incompatibility between something(s) I installed. However, this latest one, with most of the same applications does not exhibit the issue.
It is fast, stable, has stock Android, and none of HTC Sense in the way...however, none of Sense's benefits either.
I have just upgraded from an unbranded Desire I used on Voda UK to a Voda UK Sensation and I am very disappointed.
The Sensation has the potential to be a fantastic phone, but for a few really annoying faults.
1) The Phone network reception is terrible. In my house I have a very good 2g Voda reception and quite good 3g reception (One of the reasons I went with Voda years ago) I have NEVER had a problem with any other phone on Voda in my house before until now. The sensation will one minute show 3-4 bars of 2g signal, if I then pick it up and start using it, browsing the web etc, the phone will often go to no service. When I am talking on the phone in my house the person at the other end constantly complains that I am cutting out.
I have read about the alleged “grip of death” problems the sensation has if you hold the phone at the top with the Wi-Fi signal dropping and mine does that as well. I think the GSM/3G aerial is at the bottom of the case which is exactly where most people hold their phone normally and holding it defiantly affects the mobile signal as well as Wi-Fi a LOT more then I have experienced with any other phone to the point of it losing the signal in a strong area.
I am getting a replacement from Voda next week as I am still within the 7 days. I really hope this one is better with regard to GSM/3G signal.
2) I am getting the well documented problem with the Widgets (even the HTC power widget) intermittently getting coloured lines through it. It may be fine for a day then one starts and then they all start ending up in the widgets becoming unread able. To clear the problem you either have to remove the widget and then re place it on the home screen or change the scene and then back again or reboot the phone (rebooting does not always work, seems to be pot luck). I have read that HTC say that this is to do with 3rd party software not being written for QHD resolution!! Well HTC as the Sensation is, as far as I am aware, the first phone to have a QHD screen, how many f**king apps do they think will be written for QHD screens?? This is not the case anyway as sometimes they display fine for a day or so and sometimes their own power widget suffers!! Come on HTC, it is your responsibility to make sure at least 3rd party software written for earlier resolutions display without corruption, I can understand when apps display small and don’t take up the whole screen but this is a BUG.
3) I am also getting another commonly reported problem. Sense almost always reboots after installing/removing/moving an app and sometimes after exiting an app. I have read that people have put this down to the new sense being quite memory hungry and the device can shut Sense down sometimes if memory runs low??? WHAT ??? This version of sense was written by HTC for THIS PHONE!!! How can this phone not have enough RAM memory to deal with it??? I experimented with custom ported versions of this sense on my rooted Desire and sense would very, very rarely reboot, but I accepted those very few occasional sense reboots as they were custom roms with ported software not designed for that phone also modified to use the SD card for internal storage to overcome the Desires lack of internal storage. Again this is a BUG, possibly a memory leak somewhere?
I really do not expect these sort of serious, normal use affecting BUGS on a stock rom from HTC.
I have received the OTA update 1.35.161.2 but note that it isn’t quite the latest version released by HTC but I suppose it’s the Voda version, but this hasnt solved these problems.
I really hope HTC sort the software problems out ASAP, as there really is a lot to like about the Sensation, the screen looks fantastic with text/pictures and videos and the speed of the phone is very impressive and the new sense is very good software if these bugs are sorted.
But if my replacement Sensation has the same signal performance as this one, I am afraid it will be back to the slow, small screened desire for me as at least I can use it properly and generally reliably as a phone!!!!
Rant over!!!
Honestly... I have not had a single problem with my Sensation. If I were you, I would exhange it for a new one. Probably a defective unit. Go to a different store when you exchange it.

Same here..this phone is phenomenal
Ok, thanks for replys, hoping that replacment unit has at least better signal performance.
So you guys dont ever get problems with colour bars running though widgets or sense rebooting? Lots of people have posted about these problems with no answers so far. Do you have many Widgets on your home screen? I have seen a few people who posted that they eventually ended up removing the widgets. I supose if you dont have any/very few widgets the problem will not/may not occur, but for me the widgets are one of the great things about Andriod and Sense and makes them better than an iphone running iOS!
That's a bummer! Just exchange it...I've had no issues with mine!
I have EXACTLY the same software issues with my Sensation on T-Mobile USA. My reception is fine, I haven't had any problems there, but the colored lines on non HTC widgets and sense reloading after installing, uninstalling, moving to SD card or after playing a game/surfing for a long period definitely happens. This is my second replacement and it was better the first few days and now is doing the same thing that was happening before. Some days Sense doesn't reload much, maybe once. Other days, like yesterday, it reloads close to 10 times. I'm hoping HTC fixes it with the update that is supposed to come in August, in the mean time I installed LauncherPro Plus. It isn't having any of the problems the HTC launcher did. I miss the Sense home screen a lot, but not having a few HTC widgets is a small price to pay for the phone working correctly.
ru using Advanced task killer/manager or any other battery saving applications like Dr.battery or any other things like memory boost, ram booster if so please remove it.. even i had the same color bar problem in the widgets i had removed the above applications now its all fine no problem at all...
it might be another problem than just them apps. I've had both of the apps you've mentioned and never once had the application problems that the op mentioned.

I'd owned a few android phones (7) including LG P 990, according to my exp they couldn't beat sensation even it was temp root and stock ROM. But it is really hot (battery)
Hey guys. I'm a new T-Mobile customer with an HTC MyTouch4G Slide (or the Doubleshot if you prefer). I came from Sprint with a Samsung Epic 4G.
For the most part, I love my doubleshot (even if I miss the screen size of the Epic), but I've been experiencing something weird. Every couple of days my phone will just randomly reset of its own accord.
I exchange the phone after the first few times this happened, and the second few. This is my third straight Doubleshot now, and I thought I was in the clear until it hard reset last night without me asking it to.
Relevant info: this has occurred with phones that were both S-ON and S-OFF, rooted and unrooted, stock ROM and with ROMs made by both CK23 and Undead.
Is anyone else experiencing this with their Doubleshot, and do you have any suggestions on fixing it? It's not a major dilemma, more of an annoyance, but I figure it's a $600 phone - it shouldn't do crap like that.
Never had or even heard of anyone else with this issue. How do you carry your phone, in your pocket with other kinds of electrical devices?
Just throwing random stuff out there because I've never head of this (not saying it cant happen)
If I'm out and about it's in my pocket with absolutely nothing else. No keys, no coins, no other gadgets. I'm a bit paranoid about keeping my screen as scratch free as possible (yes, I have a screen protector).
If I'm not out, it sits on my desk near a couple of Acer monitors and two small Sony satellite speakers for my computer.
Do you think the magnets on those speakers could be affecting your phone? I remember on older TVs if you kept speakers next to it, it would distort colors and picture
Not likely. The magnetic drivers in these satellites are tiny to begin with. My phone isn't that close to them, and there are few, if any, parts inside a phone like this which are susceptible to weak magnetic interference.
Seeing as how this hasn't really happened to any others, here's some ideas:
Are you running modaco recovery 4.0.0.9?
Since it has happened to you on several phones, do you think it could be software related? Maybe there's something which is running process(es) in the background which are causing your phone to freeze up and become unresponsive at which point it simply resets itself.
Yes, as to MoDaCo Recovery 4.0.0.9. It's entirely possible the problem could be software related, but I can't think of anything that would be consistently running on my phone to cause the problem.
I have a rather strong addiction to the built in task killer and tend to open it and run a "kill all" any time I'm done using my phone to ensure memory is already free for whatever game/ap I intend to run when I start up again.

That might be the problem right there. Try not doing that.
Task killers are a no go.

That doesn't make a lot of sense though. One, this is the one built into Android, so I can't imagine it hurts anything. Two, why are the resets seemingly random? This particular phone has only done it once, that I've noticed. The previous phones did it damn near every hour in some instances, a few times a day in others.
They don't appear to have any correlation to task killing.
OP, maybe you're really pressing the phone's limits with intensive use. Have you noticed that the phone and battery becoming hot after even 10 min or so of gaming/surfing/texting,etc? Perhaps the battery is overheating, which causes these random reboots. It's only a guess though...
Oh and I hate how the battery gets so hot. Anyone else experiencing this dilemma? My previous Android phone's battery didn't become nearly as hot as the MT4GS's.
No the task killer is only to kill sense items and basic apps. HTC added it not Google.
Sent from my MyTouch 4G Slide using xda premium
I am having the hot battery issue too. Even with the Anker 19 mah battery... I swear it actually could cook something. My boyfriend has the same phone, and it doesn't happen to his.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA App
Anthonayy, nope. Not really. I can go more than a day without needing to recharge with my usage pattern. I am not a heavy user.
Undeadk9, even if the task killer is only to kill sense items and basic apps, I'm not using it to kill anything besides that. Also, my use of the task killer has shown no apparent correlation to the rebooting. The reboots are seemingly random. Typically they occur when I am *not* using the phone. I'll look over and all of a sudden, boop! My phone is resetting itself. It might happen far more often than I think, but I've only witnessed it one time with the current phone.
I may have over-exagerated my use of it before. I typically just use the task killer before I open a memory intensive game (like Asphalt) because the games tend not to run right if I try to open them without enough available RAM (big shock).
Seconded.
I have not rooted and run a stock mt4gs and have had this happen once every 3-7 days. Again sometimes I am using it and sometimes not. No apparent cause.
I did just chalk it up to a bad out of memory error, and the device just resets as a failsafe.
In re: to hot batteries the Anker has been a big win in that area. It will heat up once in a while but not nearly as much. I have had the reset occur with both batteries (OEM and Anker). Also the reset is not a problem just a minor annoyance.
I haven't ever experienced a hot battery. On my G2 and wifes Glacier both got hot batteries big time.

@ first I thought it was a rom problem, then I remembered it happened once with stock.
To anyone having reset issues. You need to do a warranty exchange. That is not a known issue with this device. Rooted or not.

"Sense" as in HTC Sense or the actual phone?
We're talking about the phone resetting, if the Sense interface is rebooting, we got another issue. lol
Since my Desire Z I have really had great respect for almost every Google App.
Slowly since then Google has been messing up every app they have, requiring me to mess around and waste my time every single week it seems.
Then Google decided to abandon microSD and dragged HTC along with them.
The first victim was Google maps. I loved Google Maps 6. At first it worked great and did everything I asked of it. Slowly over time even Maps 6 started to suffer. Upgrading my HTC One S to Android 4.1.1 resulted in a Google Maps that never worked properly again unless an old version was side loaded.
I got a Samsung S3 and Maps 6 worked well for me. Then came 7 and what a mess it was. After months it finally is usable on my S3, but Maps 7 consumes so much power that my car charger can't keep up and on long trips my battery will deplete even when plugged in. And my phone gets very hot to the touch, very hot. Entering destinations by voice worked in 6, rarely works in 7. The traffic overlay has become inaccurate where it used to be almost accurate enough to drive with your eyes closed WRT speed.
The came battery problems associated with the play store and Google apps. Eventually I got so tired of it I just restricted background data on Play and as many Google apps as feasible. Battery life went from 6 hours to 23 hours. Unfortunately this seemed to eventually cause issues with sync and Gmail required hours and much frustration to fix. After that things seemed to work even without background data disabled.
Then came Chrome which I used and was extremely satisfied with until the end of 2013. Then the back screening started where loading bookmark page caused the Chrome Screen to go black and unresponsive. I put up with that for months and now it is worse with screen freezing with the bookmark icons visible instead of a black screen. Reinstalling may fix this but I am tired of this and simply switched to Firefox. Firefox was also much faster and had no issues so far .... ironic, Firefox makes a better browser than Google despite that they manage Android.
Every problem I have had has been fixable with some pain and suffering on my part so it isn't my hardware .... but I am tired of the pain and suffering. I have an S3 which might just be the most common phone on the planet so there is really no excuse for all these issues.
So whats left ...... Gmail and Android itself. They are next on the block .... Google is already slipping ads into my mailbox but that isn't enough yet.
I also notice that Google has made it quite impossible to see negative reviews of software on the play store. Most were "This software sucks" or something UN-useful like that but mixed in were very useful reviews of the apps. Gone now because you just cant search them. I also notice that many of the forums to talk and complain about Android are gone form Google Forums.
All of this points to a company in serious decline or a company at war with Samsung, with issues being unaddressed or created for this phone to force upgrades and whatever.
Are Nexus phones ant better? I would consider buying one if they had microSD but they never will as that conflicts with Google's core business of information.
A year ago if when asked what my next phone would be I would have said and Android device, by HTC or Google if they supported microSD again, or Samsung most likely. Now I simply don't know. I am tempted to try Windows Mobile because despite what people say about M$, my homebuilt PC has been a rock with Windows 7 and there has always been a way to get it to do just what I want, and then I can forget about it and just use it. Windows 8 is a abomination without a touchscreen.
That is the problem with Android. I can't just forget about it and just use it ...... something is always messing up almost weekly. I have already stopped installing new apps a while ago because every new app was just too much of a risk for causing battery drain issues.
Seems like you need to install Greenify and hibernate any app that is keeping your device awake and using too much data.
I personally think that Google has not only created a great, stable OS in terms of battery life and performance...
But there is more greatness to come with what they offer and what the future holds.
The loss of the MicroSD card expansion was a hit, but you learn to manage and adapt.
Online cloud services are your best friend, that or learn how to manage what you put on your device.
In 9/10 situations, you really do not need to have your entire life on your phone... But that's just me.
But do check out Greenify and make a wakelock monitor app off of Google Play.
See whats doing the damage, and shut it down.
That or check out CM/AOKP/PA.
Great roms with excellent performance and battery life.
