if you want voice dialing buy a different phone - HTC Sensation

if you want to be able to voice dial, do not buy the htc sensation. the voice search doesn't work with bluetooth, and the phone is incapable of voicedialing. if you manage to get the apk for voice dialing installed,it will only force close on the phone; and other people posting in this forum will happily lead you astray and tell you to use expensive third party apps that will not work anyway. vlingo is the most commonly refered app and though it is free,it is not available for the sensation and if you manage to get it by way of work around, then it will actually ''brick'' your phone. this is a good phone, but the only option i have found that actually works is to use my pioneer z130 car stereo, which saves the contacts to the head unit itself and has its own voice dialing that does work. however, this is the only option.as a car stereo business owner and the holder of a masters degree in computer science,i have tried everything to make it work, but this pioneer stereo option was a fluke. so if you want to use bt for voice commands or voice dial period....by a different device, not a sensation.

u mad bro?

I don't use bluetooth but I can voice-dial just fine.
Just because bluetooth may not work with voice search doesn't mean the phone itself is incapable of voice-dialing.

Hold down search button
"Call 123-456-7890"
Works everytime

I'm able to use bluetooth voice dialing.
I'm using a BlueAnt T1 headset and I always voice dial without any problems while driving.

any app you using? Is there a button on your BT? If so, if you press it, will it auto trigger the voice dialer?

you people are either incedible liars or smoking some good stuff

It's not our fault you don't know how to use a phone.

No problems for me either. Works just fine, even when using my BT device.

Mark me as dumb too then, because it won't work for me. I can do anything at all with the google button, from emails to texts, to google searches, maps, etc.
When I do a call command, it searches the web for "call [whoever I said]"
When I hold the call button on my bluetooth headset for 2 seconds, and try to voice dial, it calls but calls no one. no number. gives me to TMO.
I'm not ragging on the phone. It seems it works without bluetooth, but if you have it working with bluetooth, what settings are you using? because the stock android isn't working for me.

Have you considered that it coups be tire phone malfunctioning, your blue tooth malfunctioning or your accent? All things that affect the reliability of vice dialing.

Vlingo works great for me, too. It was one of the first apps I installed on my Sensation and I use it everyday wth no problem and no "bricking". And for your information, no, I am not an incredible liar nor do I smoke.

you are all wonderful liars. i can see this forum is not for honest people. this is a shame. vlingo does not work on the sensation and it will brick a phone. too many of my customers as well as myself have experienced this. and as for the moron who suggested i dont know how to use a phone, bite me. you are not capable of an intelligent thought if albert einstein were pulling your strings himself. you liars are pathetic.if you dont have something constructive to post in reply to my thread stay the [email protected]#$ off of it.especially if you dont know the difference between the truth and an outright lie.

kind of hard to accept that it works for others when the code doesnt exist in the phone and the manufacturer even tells you that the phone doesnt have it. i guess you people got a special shipment the manufacturer dont know about.

Could you provide more information on this? What did you do exactly to get this error?
I just tried this app and website just to test it. I put my phone on Silent after installing the app and then tried the website with my Google Voice number (I had my 3G on). I saw it on the screen, and I saw it raise the volume, but even though it had turned the volume up, it never rang.
Might have been quirk.
Just now (10 minutes later) I tried it again after putting it back on silent, this time with my real cell number and it worked, although for a moment it appeared that it might do the same thing.
Regardless, all one would have to do is try it a second time if they didn't find it the first time. Thanks for this!
Works in Canada too!

Didn't work for me using my Google Voice number. Tried it 3 times and the ringer stayed on vibrate. Guess it has to use the actual number to your phone to work.

[Q] Jawbone Prime & Sensation 4G problems

I had no problem pairing my Jawbone Prime bluetooth headset with my old Nokia 5800. All the functions worked perfectly.
Since I moved to HTC Sensation 4G, I noticed these problems:
1. Every time I disconnect & reconnect the BT, the volume goes to minimum. It doesn't keep the previous volume setting.
2. When I play a music/video, the sound goes through phone speaker right away. I couldn't find the setting to make it goes to my BT instead.
3. The voice dial feature from BT is no longer available. Is it because now they use Google voice search? This is inconvenient because before I can activate voice dial just by holding my Jawbone's volume button. Now I have to get my phone and unlock screen, input security code, press voice search..etc.
Is anyone having similar problems or other problems?
If yes, is there a way to fix these?
Thank you,

I have a Jawbone 2 so it's not quite the same I guess but I'll try to answer some of it...
1) I don't have this problem. keeps my volume setting.
2) same issue. I also have this problem with turn by turn navigation. it goes to my speaker on the phone even though I have the bluetooth setup.
I've read other people with different headsets working fine, though in nav, it cuts off first part of the direction... so I guess it's a blessing in disguise?
anyway, I'm beginning to think it's a Jawbone issue?
3) there is a work around this...
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/HTC-SENSATION-4G/Bluetooh-Voice-Dialing-FIX/m-p/894213#M4273
only thing is you need to find the apk for choice dialer as it's not available for our phone on the market...
kind of a pain but it works.
anyway, hope that helps you out a little.

As the issue no.1, finally I got it fixed by disconnecting the Jawbone (unpair from phone) and pair it back. Apparently that solve the volume issue.
For No.2, I called Jawbone and they don't know what to do either. I'm going to try another BT from Jabra and see if the problem persist. If not that means something is wrong with Jawbone.
Thanks for the info for issue no.3
Yes, it seems I need to find out where that apk for Choice Dialer. It's not in android market yet.

I just checked the specs of the jawbone prime at jawbones website. You need to have A2DP ( Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) feature on your earpiece in order to listen to music/tv/gps navigation (anything other than phone calls), and the prime does not have that feature. If you were getting media through your nokia wiith the prime then consider yourself lucky lol, you shouldn't have been able to. Just make sure your next BT has A2DP and you're all set. They do make apps that will send media through youre BT but the sound quality is pretty poor IMO. Search Bluetooth in the market if you want to try one.

note as phone

Can someone tell me how the note operates as a phone? I mean, could I just pop in my SIM (tmobile or ATT) and have it accept data and voice? I guess "normally" I would just buy a data plan and it would only accept data, right?
I know this sounds like a dumb question, I guess I can't see why they would include voice capabilities with this? Who will put this thing up to your ear (I realize there might be some that would use bluetooth etc), but it still seems like this wouldn't replace your phone. I'd bet most people that have this will already have a phone. Why would anyone pay for voice on this as well?
Anyone have some insight on this?
The Note 10.1 seems to have an excellent speaker phone (at least the sound seems to be good) and yes, of course normally you will use a headset with it.
In this review they actually demonstrate the phone function - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dseMZFyf6go&feature=player_detailpage#t=343s
This is my first tablet with 3G so I ate be wrong about this but here it goes. I dint think most other 3G tablets have regular phone features like voice or sms/mms. They are ment to be used with a separate data plan. With the Notes ability to use these features I can just pop in my sim card when I want data and I will still get incoming calls or texts where as a tablet without those features would make me miss them.
Sent from my Galaxy S3 running DietICS
So, are you saying that if I get a data plan from att or tmobile I should be given a phone number people can call me on?
I plan on getting the 3G version, and probably go with ATT. However, I have a tmobile phone. I am assuming I'd use my note for data and if I want to make calls, I will have to switch SIM cards to take advantage of the voice features.
It would be nice to know if they could be easily "joined" via bluetooth to an phone (I have an S3) and make phone calls or data that way. Basically, I am trying to figure out the best way to utlilize my voice and data plan when I get this in conjunction with my phone.
Thanks for your help.
In opposite to the Tab 10.1 (N/2), the Note 10.1 can be used for making phone calls. Similiar to the Galaxy Tab, this works either handsfree or with the supplied headset.
Of course, you need a sim supporting this. In Germany, most people have a normale sim with voice and data plan, pure data plan sims are in my eyes rare.
So in fact, you just plug in the sim and if it supports voice, you can call voice.

No. A regular data plan from att or tmobile will just give you data. I'm talking about taking my phone's SIM and using that in my tablet. I already pay for data and att doesn't care what device I use it on (As long as it is only on one device at a time). This way when I need mobile data on the Note I can have it without getting another plan, and not miss any calls or texts
works awesome as a phone, love it.
Very cool guys. Thanks for your help. Can't wait to get it.

[Q] Call Mom not working N5

Hello guys.
I am running stock 4.4.2 KOT49H
I start google voice search and say
"Call Mum"
It then requests
"Whom do you want to call?"
"Pick contact"
No matter how many times I then choose my mother as the contact to call, it never remembers, and asks me every time.
I have no idea why, anyone?
The same happens when I try "Call Wife" etc...

Are they saved in your contacts under those names? I guess your mum might be but 'wife' ?

set you contact as "mom" or "wife". it wont know who it is unless you you set your contacts as such.
If its asking who to call but not asking who is mom, then its likely the service isn't fully working for you (I have the same issue)

Hi
Thanks for the responses... AFAIK, the new feature that came out today is meant to remember any voice name you use, and you assign it to a contact...
The reason why I use wife is that google NEVER gets my wife's name right when I say it. I could change her name to wife and my mother's to mom, but that defeats the purpose of this new feature, so it should work that when I say call xyz, it asks who I mean, then I choose a contact, and next time I say call xyz it calls that contact.
Isnt that what the new feature does? Y2whisper, I thought it was "switched on" on google's servers, and was not something that would be gradually released, like an update to the software?
Tx
Mark.
Fully get what you mean.
When the feature works, you will say call my wife and you will be asked "who is your wife" you pick a contact and it should save.
When it's not working it will simply say "pick a contact" in other words it has no idea what you said so it's asking you to choose.
I'm not sure how it's being implemented. I think it's US only but there are others claiming they have it working. Even here in Canada.

Hey there,
Yeah, almost... when I say "call mom" it types "call mom" in the search field, so it does know what I said, but still asks me to pick a contact/Whom do you want to call... and does that again and again.
Odd.
Yup that's what it does for me which shows me the feature isn't working.

That's the problem, you pick a contact and try it again and it still asks Who's Mom!
Once you pick a contact it should save that information and then be able to dial it again easily.
Yeah for those that have that problem, I would assume Google has some kinks to work out.

Same here, I have no desire for video chat... Absolutely none what so ever.
My question is; If this does go through and voice data is treated as data, on top of video chat, will data packages be realigned, or will it not be counted against the quota?
Still, it'll be nice to see this technology.
Got my answer:
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/08/26/hd-voice-calls-on-verizon-treated-just-like-traditional-calls
HD Voice Calls will be treated like traditional calls.
I'm excited. I just wonder which devices will be able to use the tech. My account has 2 s4s a note 2 (soon a note 4) and an s5. I'm sure the s5 and note 4 will be able to but the rest I'm not sure.

Sounds good. But it will definitely require a serious OTA because I've heard of nothing being already developed in the S5 for this feature. Expect Verizon to mess with root.

So what's the difference between VoLTE and WiFi calling?

In a nutshell, you'll be able to use Video calling and HD voice over the network without WiFi without any additional charges or hits against your data, provided your contact has a compatible device and the necessary software.
VoLTE is now available. I need to get my phone up to 4.4.4 (NI2) on Developer Edition so I can enable this feature.

The HD phone calls will not go against data, just minutes if you are not on an unlimited talk plan. The HD video calls will go against data.
Good luck getting it to work. If I enable HD Voice on my account, all my incomming calls stop and people get a message that the number has been disconnected or changed. Took 2 hours with Verizon to figure out thats what the issue was,. Once guy removed that feature from my account it started working again.

HAH. I was just coming here to post this. Although I didn't call Verizon, I did notice it only happened after enabling the features online. I can still make calls, receive texts I just can't receive them. Although I am kind of OK with that... LOL.
And to confirm. I just went online and disabled advance calling and now I can get calls again (called myself from work phone). Go figure... rolling out a broken product.

I knew it was the advanced calling feature but I wanted it documented so that maybe they will get it fixed. Well hopefully anyways!
