[SOLVED]Skype Mobile > new Skype is out

Hi guys... As you can see in this article:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/25/skype-mobile-for-verizon-on-android-hands-on-with-wifi-off/
Skype has been released... BUT FOR VERIZON CUSTOMERS ONLY!
But don't worry.. there is a way to get it, just download Market Enabler and set a custom value "310012" < for Verizon.
Then you will be able to download Skype Mobile but if you start it you are going to get the message "Sorry Skype couldn't detect your phone number" and will quit...
I'm sure there is a way to bypass this too... the question is how ?

I noticed one thing interesting, on my Droid I have the leaked sbf aka 2.1 build ese53 and it shows up under Market Enabler as "310004" and Skype as well as the various Fios apps are not available to me in the market. Whats funny though is I still have the Verizon tab on my Market and a few Verizon apps are listed such as vcast media manager and vzw tones.
Does anyone have a direct link to the apk for Skype?

I can upload the apk when I'm back at home after few hours.
I wonder from where/which value is Skype trying to get the phone number...

Us 'three' users on 2.1 maybe able to edit the dial out number and be able to have the app working properly. As the 'skype on 3 beta' only works on 1.5 hero roms.

I subbed to this thread because all android users need a decent skype app.

I have Verizon and this app is fail. You would want to use Fring anyways. You cant use the internet or anything using the skype app because it uses voice and you cant use wifi. Use fring and you can use all these things

Hey, I have the XV6900 and 3g (no wifi) with verizon. I should be able to use this no problem right? Fring has been an issue in the past, not installing properly or not functioning at all. Is that the most up to date skype out there for testing? I would like to be able to use it over the 3g as verizon specified.

I have Skype on 3 working fine on my Desire.

Yes it works now as they released an updated version when they started selling the new samsung. If you check the other skype threads you'll see the whole story.
Also my post was before they released 0.10.0.4 so that was the case back then.
But because 'skype on 3' doesn't really work on any other network (apart from verizon's version) i left discussing that further out of this thread.

All Android users have it. It's called Fring.

Fring is working great with Skype, but still - too much overhead. I'd like to get this application working too.

Awesome, thanks! Yeah we caught a bug pretty early on that wasn't intercepting the calls correctly. But that has been fixed and it seems to be working for everyone now

Could you provide more information on this? What did you do exactly to get this error?

I just tried this app and website just to test it. I put my phone on Silent after installing the app and then tried the website with my Google Voice number (I had my 3G on). I saw it on the screen, and I saw it raise the volume, but even though it had turned the volume up, it never rang.
Might have been quirk.
Just now (10 minutes later) I tried it again after putting it back on silent, this time with my real cell number and it worked, although for a moment it appeared that it might do the same thing.
Regardless, all one would have to do is try it a second time if they didn't find it the first time. Thanks for this!

Hmm, strange. Thanks for the trip report! How long did it ring? Did you have good signal at the time? Also would you mind trying it again to your Google voice number?

Didn't work for me using my Google Voice number. Tried it 3 times and the ringer stayed on vibrate. Guess it has to use the actual number to your phone to work.

Can someone tell me how the note operates as a phone? I mean, could I just pop in my SIM (tmobile or ATT) and have it accept data and voice? I guess "normally" I would just buy a data plan and it would only accept data, right?
I know this sounds like a dumb question, I guess I can't see why they would include voice capabilities with this? Who will put this thing up to your ear (I realize there might be some that would use bluetooth etc), but it still seems like this wouldn't replace your phone. I'd bet most people that have this will already have a phone. Why would anyone pay for voice on this as well?
Anyone have some insight on this?

The Note 10.1 seems to have an excellent speaker phone (at least the sound seems to be good) and yes, of course normally you will use a headset with it.

This is my first tablet with 3G so I ate be wrong about this but here it goes. I dint think most other 3G tablets have regular phone features like voice or sms/mms. They are ment to be used with a separate data plan. With the Notes ability to use these features I can just pop in my sim card when I want data and I will still get incoming calls or texts where as a tablet without those features would make me miss them.

I plan on getting the 3G version, and probably go with ATT. However, I have a tmobile phone. I am assuming I'd use my note for data and if I want to make calls, I will have to switch SIM cards to take advantage of the voice features.
It would be nice to know if they could be easily "joined" via bluetooth to an phone (I have an S3) and make phone calls or data that way. Basically, I am trying to figure out the best way to utlilize my voice and data plan when I get this in conjunction with my phone.

In opposite to the Tab 10.1 (N/2), the Note 10.1 can be used for making phone calls. Similiar to the Galaxy Tab, this works either handsfree or with the supplied headset.
Of course, you need a sim supporting this. In Germany, most people have a normale sim with voice and data plan, pure data plan sims are in my eyes rare.
So in fact, you just plug in the sim and if it supports voice, you can call voice.

No. A regular data plan from att or tmobile will just give you data. I'm talking about taking my phone's SIM and using that in my tablet. I already pay for data and att doesn't care what device I use it on (As long as it is only on one device at a time). This way when I need mobile data on the Note I can have it without getting another plan, and not miss any calls or texts

You can make and receive calls without any headset or anything. the speaker and mic are sufficient for desktop calls.

I have made calls using only the speakers and built-in mic.

I use Groov Ip Lite to make wifi calls all the time and the speaker and mike work fine.

Hangouts MMS [FIXED-I think]

There was a big hangouts update today (you can get it on androidpolice.com). I just downloaded it and tested it, but didnt have much time to test it. It adds the APN settings in the hangouts settings and i'm pretty sure its working now. If anyone has time to test it out while on wifi, please leave a comment saying what APN you used and if it works or not.

Seems fixed to me too... I am on wifi at work, and mms goes through now with default APN... sorry didn't have more time to test.

Also seems to be fixed for me on default APN. I have many different APN names though, like 20+, some of them are exactly the same.

Sweet! Fixed it for me, sends relatively fast now, rather than 5 minutes or not at all! Back to Hangouts for me!
btw what do ppl here use for SMS backups? I used to use GoBackup but it doesn't work too well on this phone.

Yes, it automatically installed yesterday. A clue to the issue may be that when I tried sending a message of Textra, it said "MMS Denied - MMS subscriber not enabled." I'm on the More Everything Plan with 12 GB of shared data.

i'm pretty sure you need data (not wifi, mobile data) to send MMS. when connected to wifi, i see 4G enable itself then i receive a picture message.

Did you have your data disabled while you were on WiFi? If so, I can imagine that would be why it wouldn't work..?

Yes I did. I turned it on, and the problem still persists. I'm going to consult a Verizon rep and see if I can get it fixed.
EDIT: Apparently my dad had put a bunch of blocks on my phone several years ago, that's why I was having problems. Called the rep and he unblocked everything.

hi, as many of you know, Z3 should support HD voice over 3G call.
but according to Service Menu
Code:
In your device, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

I do not know, but I get HD voice when I call other people who also have a service provider with HD voice! It should be enabled by default...

Yup. Works fine for me. There's a small HD symbol when it's working.

HD Voice works only if both partys of call have "HD Voice" enabled phones and both of them are on "HD Voice" enabled networks.
If one of this is false, it will not work.

Me and caller are on T-Mobile. Caller has a iPhone 5C

For "Full HD Voice" not only phones must support, but cross network compatibility also needs to exist, if calling out of network.
For regular "HD Voice" aka Wideband AMR just both phones need support, correct me if I am wrong.
Currently Full HD from AT&T to Verizon not possible as cross network VoLTE won't be available till next year. I think TMO to AT&T is possible at the moment.
According to Verizon they are working with AT&T for VoLTE intercompatability by the end of next year. Don't know where that leaves TMO though.

Are you on WiFi calling?

I have spoke with my carrier, and they explained me that the symbol has to be linked to the HD Voice in order to show up. Some carriers do not have this system implemented, and the call are in "HD" but there is no indication for it.

I don't believe any devices not sold by T-Mo will be able to use HD voice. The Z2 supported HD voice as well but never showed the indicator either. I have a Moto X 2014 and that also does not work with T-Mo HD voice (as far as I've tested).

It uses HD Voice (AMR-WB), it just may not show it on an icon.
PC Magazine tested an unlocked Nexus 5 on T-Mobile:

On the theory that it may be HD, but it's just missing the icon... is there a way to confirm HD (other than a subjective listen test - I'm horrible at discerning sound)?
Also, one of my biggest complaints is full-duplex. Can anyone comment on whether HD automatically guarantees full-duplex? (I may be misusing the term, but what I mean is the ability to talk and listen simultaneously. A pet peeve is that POTS ca. 1960 allowed this, and technical papers I read about digital cell service - back to TDMA days - say it's implemented; yet my phone calls are plagued by 1-way communication only. I have to stop and wait for the other party to talk our I don't hear them.)
