Alright, I know this has probably been covered some where, and I know that this is a "world wide site", and I know this is all going to sound stupid given the answer is in my own post, but a question:
I am really liking the look of this phone, and I want to get one (when ever it comes out), but in Australia, our largest HSDPA network is Telstra NextG, which is 850 band. Looking at the specifications for the machine (this site had everything well laid out):

It states the European/Asian version will be HSDPA 900/2100. So I am going to guess that I can not use it on the Next G network with this version of the phone. Correct?
Also, the site states that the Americas (US) version is 850/1900.
So, I assume I have to get a phone from the US to use it on Telstra's Next G. Is this correct, or is there some other quirk that I do not know (like some CDMA difference or something)?

One of our members was nice enough to leak a version of the new AT&T ROM for the upcoming Raphael in the US, and since the hardware is all the same, HOPEFULLY flashing with that ROM will enable the 850mhz HSDPA band you and I both need. I'll be testing this on a Raphael when it releases in Europe, and I'll have a post up very quickly in this section letting people know how it went. If it works, you can buy any version and flash it (only takes 5 mins) for it to work in AUS.
Edit: Don't listen to GSMArena, HTC lists this phone as quad-band although they say it's tri-band.

Yeah, well, I figure if it doesn't work (hoping it doesn't brick it) I'll just resell it for like $25 less and it's not much of a loss for trying.
I don't know much about Australian telephone networks, but I've always wanted to go there and see what it feels like to be upside down all the time.

The Australian networks arent too bad. We have a choice of frequencies here. Telstra have the 850mhz 3G band and Optus and Vodafone are each expanding their exisiting 2100 3G network using 900mhz which will be launched over the next few months. The good thing about Raphael is that it will work on the 2100 and 900 3G bands and given that Telstra's voice and data plans are ridiculous many of those who want to use data on it wont care about the absence of 850...this is good news. However if the device can be flashed to work for everyone...even better.
As for the photo of the Australian networks that was a network similar to what I built in Sydney in the early 80's. A large carrier paid me a small fortune to decommision it as it was making them look bad!!
I'm also in Australia and plan to get this phone from one of the UK stores as I can't wait for 3 odd months for it to be released here. Now I'm sure there might be a few aussies here who have ordered from online stores outside Aus. What I wanna know is if I might have to pay any import duty on my purchase? If I buy from expansys uk, the unit will cost me roughly AU$920, but with bank fees and shipping charges, I would have paid $1010. I know that import duties are applicable if the cost of the unit is $1000. So does this count for me as well?
I just want to avoid paying more that I should.

Thanks all for your input on this. I was pretty sure that the phone would not work on the NExt G nextwork if I bought one (from say an internet dealer in Sydney or Melbourne), but as you can see from my "location", I need Next G. There is not 3G nextwork in the Top End except Telstra Next G (Or at least none that cover all of Darwin and its area adequately. Anyway I don't knock Telstra too much).
Further to that, I work away a lot and once again, Next G is OK (note I only said OK) for outside of major cities, and Telstra GSM is good for most rural townships also.
Anyway, I suppose my upgrade will be to a TyTN II to replace my old phone, at least it has the 850 band that I need for Next G.

The Diamonds were listed as Tri-Band too, but now every Diamond is quad-band since they came out with the newer ROM. Same with the Touch Pro, some ROMs (apparently that nation's) don't support quad-band, but in time (or with a quick reflash) they will.

Thnx finally some clarification...
But still strange that our countries HTC would not enable that bandwith. They state it's a business phone. But business often means travelling arround the globe. Quadband would then be preffered above tri-band....
But black you know for sure the bandwith can be activated by just software? Some people say you need a different antenna. (I'm a noob in that area...).

The GSM antennas are all in every Diamond, the problem is with the UMTS radio. To keep the Diamonds so small, HTC had to remove the American UMTS radio, making it so you can't use a European Diamond to get 3G in the US ever. Likewise, the American Diamond will only have the US bands of 3G (850 and 1900). As for the GSM bands, though, EVERY Diamond has the capability to be quad-band, so you'll at least get EDGE wherever you go. Hope this clears things up.

Just wondering if anyone had n update as to the effect of the new radio rom in the touch pro. I understand the US issue was different with a release of GSM only touch pros (Booo Hissss) but would realy like to confirm if we are able to reflash to expand on the UMTS frequencies here in Aus making the touch pro UMTS tri or quad band.

I'm wondering if someone has worked out how to get the extra band to work in Australia as well. I am on Next G and my brand new phone simply sucks right now and I'm hoping I don't have to go over to a different carrier when my contract is up. I kinda like Telstra Next G, dare I say it.

As far as I know it works fine with an ATT Fuze with a regular touch pro you'll never get NextG on the 850 band, it's a hardware limitation.

Sorry to differ (and I am an AT&T customer) but according to the GSM World site at http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_us.shtml
T-Mobile operates in the USA on the 1900 band. As the x7510 is a quad band phone I see no reason why it won't work with T-Mobile.
Well if you go to the HTC site, and look at the G1's Specs, it shows a US 3G at 1700/2100, for T-Mobile. So unless they also have 3G band of 1900, the x7510 won't work on T-Mobile US.
Looks like I'll stand corrected. Seems that T-Mobile's 3G is not going to be accessable by the x7510 if HTC's site is correct, although the GSM/GPRS obviously is.
Best action I suggest is talk to T-Mobile and ask them to clarify what frequency their 3G service is on. Alternatively switch to AT&T and the x7510 will be just fine.

I have ATT and have yet to see my X7510 lock on to anything but "H" and "E" while those around me with IPhones lock on to ATT 3G.
Edit: Oops, "H" is a form of 3G or 3.5G according to my reserach.

I believe T-mobile on 1700 (Coz my bro G1 works - with 1700/2100 for 3G while x75xx on 2100), so I only have "E" all the time (I live in CA). Except for streaming video, everything else just work finefine.
If you want 3G, might need to consider ATT at least at this point.
My x7510 Ameo works with T-Mobile US
The 3G works fine with my x7510 Ameo after I called T-Mobile US for all the settings. If you don't get the answer you want from the first T-Mobile tech call back and get another tech until you get all the settings you need.

Please dont lie Tmobile 3g USA is only 1700mhz its all over the web there is no way that you will get US tmobile 3g on anything that doesnt have 1700mhz take a look at wikipedia very clearly listed even there that its 1700/2100 MHz for Tmobile USA.
What would need to be done to have it on tmo. And would hspa+ and all that work?

I actually rooted my Inspire, loaded the Euro DHD ROM and tried it on T-Mobile this morning. It worked, but no 3G, much less 4G.
So what would need to be done to get that type of thing to work fully? Something with the baseband or something right?

just wait a few months, the htc incredible S is supposed to coming to Tmobile and that device has same specs as the inspire except smaller screen and has FFC.

i want the big screen though lol. I have a g2 right now and I'm really just craving one of those huge screens. What about the Desire HD? would that work on TMO? or is there any other options out there?

I don't get it. One of the reason I pick Inspire because it has the same 2G/3G band frequency like the Desire Z (G2). If Desire Z works then why not the Inspire?

The desire z looks like it does not work on t-mobile either. T-mobile needs 1700/2100 for 3g, which are not listed in the specs yet posted.

You will not be able to roam with your T-Mobile 3G device on another carrier's 3G network. T-Mobile devices use the 1700Mhz/2100Mhz frequency band (for 3G) and it is specific to T-Mobile. You can however roam on another carrier's 1900Mhz frequency band using GSM. Likewise, another carrier’s 3G devices will not be able to roam on our 3G network.

yup basically, All you need to do is root the phone using either method. I tried it last night actually with my friends tmo sim. phone worked fine, except only edge service

its something i have thought bout but why would you pay that much for a phone tht will only run on the Edge. Wait for the Pyramid to come out or get a Desire HD from ebay. its just the European version and has the bands ability. or like what has been mentioned before about the HD2 and load it with Android. Thats what Im using which is awesome becasue you can use the HSDPA speeds and 3G speeds and have that huge 4.3 inch display and still have a 1ghz snapdragon processor.. another awesome thing about it is that there is SOOO many roms you can load to customize your phone like if you wanted the basic Sense Rom like the inspire or the Evo there are plenty of roms for it, if yo wanted the MyTouch 4G rom then you can load it, if you wanted a Nexus Rom then you can load it, and its much faster with updates so you can even have Gingerbread already on your phone and they are even already gettting the bugs worked out of having Honeycomb on the good ole HD2. its overall a very under rated phone but thats because it had tons of issues with WinMo 6.5 but with ANdroid loaded on it I havent had problem one with it.. Im sure others have thier opinion but thats mine for it.. hopefully any info helps...

hey guys i realize this is an older post but i rooted and unlocked my htc inspire and put in a Tmobile sim card and calls work fine and text messages too the phone automatically detected apn and everything but i cant get it to connect to the internet what should i do is there a way to set to 2g networks only? is that even required?

I'm currently in the USA for an internship and I'm tempted to buy an Inspire since it's so much cheaper than what it would cost back in the Netherlands. However I've searched a lot now and I can't figure this out.
Will the Inspire work on my network back in the Netherlands? I'm on T-mobile. I'm sure GSM will work and so on, but I would really like to know if 3G and even 4G will work back at home?
So, bottomline, buy or don't buy ?

Yes it will work but, if you want to use it on another gsm network in the Netherlands you will need to unlock it. I suggest you root it using the ace hack kit. I tested this method and I can say my phone is unlocked.
4G on the Inspire is HSDPA+ its just a upgraded 3g network. If your network in the Netherlands supports this you will have the same speeds or faster. Just check the freq for you home network with the inspire tech spec. I suspect it will work since its the same phone as the Desire HD sold in Europe.

Not if T-Mobile is your provider, T-Mobiles 3G/HSPA+ network uses different frequencies than the Inspire operates on. T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 for their 3G/HSPA+. ATT and the Inspire use 850/1900 (which T-Mobile uses for Edge). So with T-Mobile you'll get voice and Edge data, but no 3G/4G

T-Mobile in Europe uses different frequencies than T-Mobile in the US (probably 900MHz or 2100MHz), but regardless, the Inspire won't support them.

Good point. Looks like T-Mobile in the netherlands uses GSM1800 and WCDMA2100 - which won't give you high speed data on the Inspire
The Inspire does not suppprt 3g bands that are commonly used outside of north america, so while the phone will generally work, you can only get 2g (edge) data in Europe/Asia/etc..

I am currently in Japan with my htc inspire and I am not getting any signal at all. I tried resetting and going into the settings menu to change the "network operator" but its greyed out.
does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I desperately need it to work here and I have the international plan activated on my account.

Well in Japan you wont get 3g due to Japan using 2100mhz and The Inspire does not have that freq built in. You should get a call signal. Make sure you enable international roaming on your account. Or if your phone is unlocked buy a local sim card and pop it in.
I enabled international roaming on my account and have the $6 plan added for cheaper international roaming service.
I don't need 3g, just a phone signal to make calls and receive texts. but all I get is a "x |on top.
I have travelled to countless countries with my other unlocked phones and have never had a problem with my phone not picking up a signal.
is it possible that because I changed to a 3g sim card, it doesn't work abroad?
japan does not have gsm EDGE coverage i dont believe. they do have 3G HSDPA, but on 2100mHz, which the inspire does not have. so you are kinda out of luck i'm afraid.

Had the same problem in Korea last week - sucked big time. How can they call it a world phone and leave out 2100!!!!
That is absolutely terrible and false advertising since Japan and Korea re left out which are huge territories. I also have an unlocked samsung vibrant that I need to charge to see if it works.
Does anyone know if the vibrant has the right frequencies for Japan?

According to the same tool I previously posted, the Captivate will work in Japan and South Korea

Don't know about the Vibrant, does it have the 2100 frequency? If so, then probably yes
Yeah I still can't believe this phone left out the 2100 frequency. I posted about this a few weeks ago and still can't believe I didn't notice that it didn't have the 2100 when I bought it, as I travel to Japan quite often.
I don't like the Atrix and the Infuse 4G isn't out yet so I'm just waiting it out until some better phones come out and will just use a older phone in the interim. Those both support 2100 apparently. Kind of ridiculous that HTC left it out of this phone.
Just did a quick search and it looks like the Vibrant does have 2100 UMTS support.
Sprint CDMA works in Tokyo (and possibly Verizon). Not sure what carrier it uses but it does work for voice only. Probably not much help though.
