Nope, the only way to lose root is to flash a non-rooted rom. I upgraded to a 32GB card last week and everything is working great.

Just remember if you get a new SD Card then all your CWM backups are stored on the old one unless you transfer them over.

So I get it that the only way to lose Root is to flash a non rooted phone, my question is if I was to replace the SD card but save the gold card, flash a non rooted Rom and want to go back and reroot the phone would all I have to do is reinstall the first gold card and run the root process or do I have to recreate the gold card once again?

Actually, on the Inspire, S-OFF is rather hard to revert. Just flashing a stock ROM or running a stock RUU won't do it. You need to go through most of the rooting steps, then run "gfree -s on", then run the RUU or install stock update.

OK Gene so really the only time I would need a gold card is for S-OFF and or returning to factory stock S-ON correct me if I'm wrong here. I just want to be clear as to pertaining to the security of the Gold Card. and when we would need or not need it. The captivate was so easy to root and or unroot to factory stock, The inspire is a bit different.
Thanks and didn't mean to highjack this thread but I do think these are valid qestions that need good answers.

A gold card has but one purpose: installing an official update on a device that is not the same model as the update was intended, period. For instance, installing the downgrade ROM (which is for DesireHD--model PD9810000) on an Inspire (model PD9812000).
If you're S-OFF, then no such restriction exists so you don't need a gold card to revert. You don't need it to install the official Inspire RUU either since it has the correct model ID.

Sorry guys if this was posted already. I had been searching for a way to unroot totally back to factory and the RUUs were giving me all sorts of errors... 171, 170 etc. So I finally found a way to actually make it work.
** If you are rooted and have the 1.47 update and cannot unroot with the RUU you were in my boat. Here's what I did:
1 - Download the ROOTED 1.32.651.1 from http ://geekfor.me/evo/rom/Supersonic_1.32.651.1_rooted .zip
(Remove the spaces from the url)
2 - Put that zip in the root of your SD card and then boot into recovery and flash it.
3 - Download the official 1.47 RUU and it should work on your device with no problems.
I am sorry if this guide was elsewhere but this is what I came up with on my own and I wanted to share it in case there wasn't a working unroot guide out.

Yes. http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/
the ruu does not restore the PRI to 1.40 if you have the engineering boot.
From what I can tell, there is no way to restore back to 1.40 pri.
Can someone post the stock 1.47.651.1 in a zipped image format for the bootloader??

There are adapters and you can also put the card in another phone.
I will look for the image
Download to root of sd and rename to PC36IMG
http://www.mattwhitlock.com/PC36IMG-1.47.651.1_eng-hboot_RA-1.7.0.1.zip
They do not check for root and to be honest its perfectly LEGAL now to root a phone so no WORRYS leave it as is
thanks again for the really quick response.. I have a mircoUSB adaptor that i use, and my roomate has the same phone as me so i can get my battery charged.
i may just do as you say and go with the sprint stock rooted rom.. kuz this is proving to be more of a hassle than i thought it would be.
thanks

In the MOST EXTREME case but its highly doubtful and has been proven over and over. I for one agree you should unroot it as best you can so it doesnt allow the carrier or htc to figure out the root method etc but if you can't I wouldnt worry one single bit. hmm.. okay.. so that zip file that was there.. i already had, and i already tried flashing that.. and it didnt work last time, nor did it work this time
i have hboot 0.79.000
i have radio 1.39.00.05.31
and i flashed to a rooted 1.32 rom like it said i had to do.
Im using clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.1
When i go to install zip from sd card>choose zip> and select the file attached, it just tries to open it and within a few miliseconds its back to the screen i was just at.
if i were to rename it to PC36IMG.zip and let bootloader load it, it will say 'wrong or no image'
I think im going to give up..
i found this. i will give it a try i suppose:

You arent nand unlocked just bring it back do a full system wipe
It also doesnt hurt to try again make sure that you download a fresh version of the file and wipe the sd card of any other files if possible if at least make sure there arent any other pcimg files there

Forgive my newbie question. Since this is just root.. Do we still have to use the side load wonder machine to get the app on in the first place? Rooting just allows us to do all the good stuff but att restrictions are still in place with out a custom rom?

This is probably a stupid question (but I'm new to rooting and such), but can you still use an sd card for data storage after utilizing it as a gold card?

Yes, absolutely.
I read in some gold card guide that while you could do that, it's better if you don't. I don't remember the reasoning though.

I am confused right now, what is the gold card way everyone is talking about? When I rooted my Captivate(my first Android phone). I just used the odin3 one click root. Will this phone have that?
I'm looking to root my inspire for 2 simple reasons. To be able to uninstall the bloatware and have access to the amazon app store. As far as I can tell bubby's 1 click root seems to be the easiest method so far.
I just have a few questions on what to do after or if I'm successful in gaining root.
I'm planning on sticking with the stock rom and not doing anything extra then what bubby's instructions say. (using his rc2)
The gold card....Can I still use it as a SD card in my phone? Do I have to format the card again to restore my backed up files on it or can I just simply add them to the card? Or do I have to get a new SD card?
I've already gotten the OTA update that was released a couple days ago...will the stock rom have HSUPA enabled? Can I still use the OTA update to install updates as they come out or will I have search online for custom updates and install them manually?
Lastly...will I run in to any other problems or glitches? Sound working? Increase/decrease in battery life? Increase/decrease in speed? Baseically will all the apps and functions of my phone still work as well as they did before root?
I feel like I have searched everywhere for answers to these questions but no luck....So any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am new to this too, but I did run across the answer to your SD Card question. Yes, you can use it again as normal without formatting it. At least that is SOME answer to get you started...lol :0)

It should but AT&T's definition of HSUPA varies from device to device and region to region. You may get OTA updates, but keep in mind the update may clear your ability to sideload apps and may clear the root access once applied. So yes it might be better to search for custom updates

In regards to the goldcard...
You may want to consider holding on to it for future possible use (in case you somehow need to root another inspire, you won't have to make another one).
Either buy a 4gb for the goldcard if you want to use the 8gb that came with the phone, or take the opportunity to get a bigger one for daily use in your phone, and use that 8gb for the goldcard.
In regards to OTA updates...
The one on your phone will be lost in the rooting process. After its done, though, you can reflash the same thing back onto your phone... The same Rom is available over in the dev section. Future OTA updates will have to be manually updated by way of this forum. Fear not, they'll be here.
In regards to glitches...
You'll only be left with no sound if you don't finish the process fully. In order to gain root, a temporary downgraded Rom (that has no sound) has to be flashed first. Then, the functioning stock Rom is flashed back on.
People complain they "lost sound after rooting" because they don't follow the process through to completion... Putting a working Rom back on.

I have made myself an expert with this stuff LOL...rooted my HTC last week with the simple one click one.......Number 1 is don't change your ROM at all...at least don't go to CM7....you will have major problems with it...........GPS will not work, trust me.
Also, if you change your radio, your also screwed because your UP and DOWNLOAD will be messed up and your GPS won't work as well...i myself am tyring to find a root solution that won't touch my radio.....only push an exploit that will give me unknown sources to be installed and for WIFI tether...that's it for me.
Now I'm curious.
Now that this is out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Couldn't someone download this and rename it PD98IMG.zip, boot into hboot and bypass the whole OneClick/Hack kit?
Or does that only work after you're rooted?

Your waiting to root so you can try out the phone first is a good idea, however, those things you aren't liking so far are actually improved with many custom roms.

If you just used the RUU, then you should still be S-OFF. Just install a custom recovery then install whatever rooted ROM you want.
How do you have a gold card saved on your CPU? Guess you mean PC. The goldcard is your modified micro sd card. And yes the card can be used again and again.

Hi All,
Lost all data on SD card on ONE-XL from accidental factory reset (wife did it).
Question - I don't want to root the phone (believe JBean 3.14 can't anyway)....all i want is to unlock bootloader and install TWRP so can mount SD as a drive and run PC recovery software.
Is this possible? Or is fact it can't be rooted also going to prevent installation of TWRP also?
Then, what is best method to install TWRP? I've found the Evita all-in-one tool but that mentions running the xfactor exploit which i believe is for root only?
Cheers for the help guys. New to this one the One-XL even though been rooting Desires, DHD's and Sensations for years.

Back them up... I personally think rooting and unlocking is the way to go. Even if you don't want a fancy-smancy custom rom, you could install a near stock JB rom that's super smooth and fast, without any bloat and optimized. Try it and see man, the toolkit makes things very easy for first timers
